Sour cream and onion kale chips

Hi 😀 How are ya doing? Hope you’re having a fantastic night <3

We just got back from a little walk with Bell

photo (42)

[First we were at the dog park, but there were 2 big dogs on the little dog side and one aggressive one that kept trying to fight with the other dogs, so we peaced out]

and came home to a broken dehydrator.

chips

You see, I fill it up with tasty treats to dehydrate but by the next day, it’s half-empty.

I think it’s eating what I put in there.

Yes, that must be it 😉

In all seriousness though, cheezy kale chips have a serious rival: the sour cream and onion kale chip.

chip

When Angela posted these last week, I knew I had to try them since I luuuuurve my kale chips 🙂 The recipe is my friend Doug’s, and it’s amazing- seriously tastes like the real thing, but better.

Cashews as the base:

cashews

and I used my slicing skillz since the mandolin is in the POD 🙂

coating

The only changes I made to the original recipe:

-added garlic powder

-extra sea salt + more on top before dehydrating

-next time, I would use less cashews (1 C) or 2 bunches of kale- it was a lot of coating!

The house smells AWESOME (very oniony haha). The Pilot said it smells “pretty fierce” but I think he means delicious [he’s been snacking on them out of the dehydrator, too]

After brunch this morning, we ran some errands, I took a nap and woke up to a salad beast 😀

beast

The Pilot knew I would be hungry when I woke up, so he made my favorite salad to be waiting for me in the fridge. What a guy <3

Snack later this evening:

cereal (2)

Brown rice cereal with almond milk, organic raspberries and cinnamon

We’re going to watch a movie and chillax, so I’ll see ya in the morning!

xoxo

Gina

I saw those Kale chips! They look yummy! I just got dehydrator because you always make such delicious goodness in it 🙂 Can’t wait to try things!!

Ha Ha, I was told to dehydrate onions OUTSIDE. I really should try making some kale chips. It seems this is a major problem with dehydrators. (disappearing)

i’ve been brainstorming new kale chip flavours, and this is definitely on the list!
i think my dehydrator eats some of my goodies too LOL

The chips look amazing. I’m a huge onion fan, so these would be right up my alley 🙂

I can’t get over how freakin sweet and thoughtful your Pilot is! You’re a lucky girl 🙂

I saw Angela make those kale chips last week. It’s a good thing that I am not a huge onion lover b/c even I am going ga-ga for those…and if I was really “into” onions, well, i’d be drooling all over my keyboard 🙂

And nothing worse than dogs outta control at the dog park. Usually the owners say something like, “oh but he’s so friendly”….as they are about to eat the smaller dogs as a snack. I used to have small dogs and that was a classic occurrence.

Hope you guys have a Happy Memorial Day…and thanks to the Pilot for his service!

i hate it when there are aggressive dogs at the dog park…especially when the owners don’t do anything to really stop it! at least it’s fun to walk elsewhere 🙂 and at least you had delicious kale chips in your broken dehydrator 😉

I don’t have a dehydrator so I just make my kale chips in the oven, and I really wish I’d purchased some kale this weekend because I’m craving some now! Hope you and the Pilot have a lovely Memorial Day!

I need to figure out a way to make a nut-free version of these because they look fantastic! 😀

haha – you’re right, the dehydrator MUST be broken. Too funny!

When I first saw the picture of the dehydrator pans, I thought “yeesh I hope those aren’t macaroons gone horribly wrong” — since I actually thought it was broken!

  18. Lisa on May 30, 2011 at 9:19 am

I need to find raw cashews; all I see around here are roasted. I finally caved and bought a dehydrator.

  19. Michelle C on May 30, 2011 at 9:33 am

Isn’t the dog park hard to navigate sometimes? I hate when other people don’t control their aggressive dogs! Or they try to say “oh, she’s just playing!”

  20. MMiller on May 30, 2011 at 12:47 pm

Do you have any instructions on how to do the kale chips without a dehydrator? I have tasted them and really liked them, but don’t have a dehydrator!

    • Fitnessista on May 30, 2011 at 11:57 pm

you can do them on the oven’s lowest setting on a cookie sheet, with the door slightly ajar

  21. Krystina (Organically Me) on May 30, 2011 at 8:45 pm

You have the most gorg hair ever.

      aww thank you!

  22. britt on May 30, 2011 at 9:09 pm

  23. Mac on May 30, 2011 at 10:11 pm

I think a broken hydrator is even worse than not having one at all like me! It definitely going on my wedding registry list when that day comes around!

  24. Lacy on May 31, 2011 at 12:00 am

Mmmm! What kind of dressing is on that salad, Gina? 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 31, 2011 at 12:15 am

      TJs italian with balsamic
