My Friday

[One of the hardest parts about blogging is coming up with titles, for sure]

Hey hey 😀 Happy Saturday! Hope you’re having a lovely morning <3

Saturday is actually my Friday since I have to work today—it’s always a little rough to leave the Pilot and Bella snoozing while I’m off to do the work thang. Saturday is my toughest day –I teach 3 classes, including Zuuuuuuuuumba- but my favorite 🙂

Before I packed my lunch up, I made a breakfast smoothie in the Pilot’s mug:

smoothie

-1 banana

-1.5 C almond milk

-handful of spinach

-1/2 pack of Vega Smoothie Infusion

-1 T cacao powder

-1/2 t raw honey

-1 T peanut butter

I always want COLD things in the summer, especially since it’s so crazy hot in AZ. Smoothies, fresh juices, breakfast cookies and chia pudding are summer breakfast staples over here 🙂

Lunch is packed up and ready to go:

lunch

-organic fruit bowl (apricots, raspberries and blueberries)

-Brad’s kale chips (nasty hot flavor!! Mmmm)

-egg-wich on a gluten-free Udi’s bagel

bagel

I’m off to seize the day and all that jazz 😉

Enjoy your afternoon and I’ll see ya laterrrrrr <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to talk about: What are your summer breakfast staples? What do you look forward to the most at the end of the long day? Today, I can’t wait to get home, blast some Gipsy Kings and clean the casa 😉

My summer breakfast staples are a lot like yours. Smoothies, fresh fruit (especially berries), and iced coffee. Yum!
    Have a great day! 😀

  2. Katherina @ Zephyr Runs on June 18, 2011 at 10:55 am

Definitely lots of smoothies for me in the summer! I just made the most epic sweet potato pie smoothie that will probably happen once every couple weeks as a treat to myself. Berries and salads galore, too. Salads just scream summer to me!

  3. Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn on June 18, 2011 at 10:56 am

My breakfast staple — green juice and cookie dough bowls!! Lahhhhve. I am muy curious about these Udi’s bagels. They look so goooddd

Happy Saturday! I hope your work day goes good!!

Just curious – obviously you are still working out while preggo – because we are starting to think about babies – I’m really curious about your opinion on working out while pregnant – especially zumba and higher intensity things like this! Thanks

    • Fitnessista on June 18, 2011 at 10:58 am

i’m not doing any high intensity interval training (it’s too intense right now), but all of my other workouts i’m still doing: zumba, yoga, weight training, cardio, etc. my doc and midwifre gave me the ok to keep doing what i was doing before i was pregnant, so if it feels good, i do it. my body tells me when it’s too much.
for example, today i teach an advanced cardio strength class, and i can’t do all of it with the class or i’d be DONE before zumba. i show them a few and they watch and yell as they do the rest 😉

My summer breakfasts are a lot like yours, although we have soaked oats a lot. I whip up a huge batch at night and it is ready in the morning. This morning was oats + almond milk, maple syrup, peaches, blueberries and raspberries. My kids die for this and it’s so easy!

  6. Gina @ Running to the kitchen on June 18, 2011 at 11:24 am

Your packed fruit made me realize I haven’t had an apricot in non-dried form in FOREVER! Now it sounds really good!
    Have a great day!

  7. Alex on June 18, 2011 at 11:29 am

In the summer I drink a lot of smoothies for breakfast. I’m a seasonal iced coffee drinker (as soon as it gets about 65 here in the mornings in Tucson, I switch to the iced, as I can’t stand the thought of hot). Lately though, I’ve been cooking two or three eggs (depending on my workout) with a little bit of real butter and that has been hitting the spot p e r f e c t l y. Sometimes I throw in a little salad, too. I’m big on savory breakfasts and don’t enjoy the sweet ones all that much.

After a long day all I want to do is snuggle my man.

  8. Monika on June 18, 2011 at 11:35 am

I’m still an oatmeal girl in the summer, but my topping usually change from “heartier, heavier ones” to “lighter, more refreshing ones”-

always with a side of fruit, though!

  9. Gretchen on June 18, 2011 at 11:37 am

I love all types of berries w/ my breakfast in the summer! They’re fresh and give my oatmeal the sweetness I crave! I noticed that you packed an egg sandwich to take with you. I’m assuming it holds up for a few hours? I’ve wanted to try this for an easy lunch, I just wasn’t sure if it would taste as good refrigerated? Do you warm it up, or just eat it cold?

    • Fitnessista on June 19, 2011 at 1:32 am

i put it in the fridge at work and heat it up on my break 🙂

      • gretchen on June 19, 2011 at 9:09 am

Thank you! I think I will be giving that a try soon!

I definetly need my yogurt 🙂 I love when the local apricots and berries are in season too!! Gypsy Kings??- Amazing 🙂 I love coming home to hot tea ( or iced in the summa), or homemade goodies!!

  11. ellalinea on June 18, 2011 at 11:56 am

My breakfast staples are similar to yours 🙂 Smoothies, cereal with ice cold soy milk, wholewheat bread with fresh fruit, soy yoghurt and granola..

Hmm now I crave breakfast.. :p

  12. Kelly @ Laughter, Strength, and Food on June 18, 2011 at 12:00 pm

My summer staples for breakfast are iced coffee and any type of bread…bagels, English muffins, waffles, etc. I still eat oats, but sometimes they feel too ‘wintery’. 😀

  13. kaila @ healthy helper! on June 18, 2011 at 12:07 pm

I really want an egg wich now!

  14. Brindi on June 18, 2011 at 12:07 pm

I really enjoy a nice cold smoothie/protein shake during summer mornings. At night, I look forward to coming home and relaxing with iced coffee and a good book.

  15. kate on June 18, 2011 at 12:10 pm

I crave cold fruit like crazy in the summer too!!!

I think any type of fruit will be my staple all summer, i love fruit so much.
I got up earlier than my bf this morning, to do Day 3 of Insanity. now its time to get him up! lol

  17. Hannah on June 18, 2011 at 12:46 pm

happy saturday/friday! my boyfriend kind of has the same thing- he has off thurs & fri, but works saturday and sunday!.. its not fun for the one left behind! or when I have to work the days he doesn’t!
Smoothies have been a constant in my mornings, also pineapple, watermelon, fresh fruit, salads, iced tea and iced coffee, fruit infused waters, lemonade, and ICE Cream!! 🙂

  18. Abby on June 18, 2011 at 1:26 pm

I love making overnight oats, smoothies, and yogurt bowls in the summer! Nothing is more refereshing than a cold breakfast! 🙂 Iced coffee have to be involved somewhere in there too!

  19. lisa on June 18, 2011 at 1:27 pm

I love the Gypsy Kings!! I like green juices and smoothies in summertime. My favorite summer treats are bing cherries and watermelon- yum.
Off to get a haircut, and I think I’ll blast a little GK when I get home and clean my casa.

  20. Natalya @ It'sNotNotRocketScience on June 18, 2011 at 1:52 pm

My staples have been overnight oats and sweet potato smoothies! And anything else cold… The temperature hasn’t been going below 80 degrees, even at night, over here! It’s pretty gross

  21. Chelsa on June 18, 2011 at 2:18 pm

That bagel you have been eating looks incredible. When I was younger I loved berry cream cheese on bagels. I bet if you mixed goat cheese with strawberry jam it would be delicious.

My summer breakfast staple is cold oats with Greek yogurt, cinnamon and stevia. I can’t seem to get off of this combo lately.

Have a good day at work 🙂

  22. Moni'sMeals on June 18, 2011 at 2:35 pm

    Hey!

I work like crazy on Saturdays too. 🙂

You sure make those bagels look good!

My staples are fruit, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, and shakes. 🙂

  23. suzi on June 18, 2011 at 2:52 pm

I’m a big yogurt and berries girl in the summer. I don’t think anything says summer like fresh fruit!

  24. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on June 18, 2011 at 4:16 pm

What do you look forward to the most at the end of the long day? = popcorn with coconut oil, nooch, and chocolate chips in bed with my DVR remote in my hand watching the Real Houswives, the Kardashians, or similar really intellectually-stimulating tv shows 🙂

And stay cool in that AZ heat, mama 🙂

  25. @ThisLittleLamb on June 18, 2011 at 4:22 pm

I am obsessed with Greek yogurt mixed with raw oatmeal, sunflower seeds, wheat germ, and blueberries. I eat it every day and never get sick of it. I’m boring!

I look forward to snuggling in bed with my love at the end of every day. No better feeling.

As for the AZ heat, I have to ask you to be GRATEFUL that you don’t have to deal with the HUMIDITY that we have here in Toronto. Boooooooooo so sticky!

Hope you’re having an awesome weekend mommy to be!

    • Fitnessista on June 19, 2011 at 1:30 am

we were in georgia last summer and i don’t miss the humidity AT ALL 🙂

  26. Anna on June 18, 2011 at 4:40 pm

Brad’s! I worked for them up until very recently, doing in-store demos at Whole Foods and such. Nasty hot is my fave- it really clears out the pores. hah.

  27. Stephanie on June 18, 2011 at 4:46 pm

I’m cleaning the house today. Unlike you, this is something that I CAN wait to do. And I usually wait a bit too long. Ha!

  28. Namaste Gurl on June 18, 2011 at 5:07 pm

Mmmm, I love that smoothie combo- especially adding avocado to it. Weird, I know. Somehow the berries, cocoa and avocado go SO well together 🙂
    Have a wonderful day!

  29. Tessa @ Amazing Asset on June 18, 2011 at 5:09 pm

Coming up with titles is so hard sometimes! I don’t want to make it too boring, but trying to make it fun and catchy constantly is tricky too 🙂
Any fresh, in-season fruit is my summer food staple!

  30. Lindsey on June 18, 2011 at 5:25 pm

Smoothies (cup and bowl form) for sure, followed by your cookie dough breakfast cereal.

I look most forward to cuddling up with my hubby on the couch or having a bubblebath and reading a book 🙂

  31. Pure2raw twins on June 18, 2011 at 5:27 pm

We are so bad with titles, haha…you always have great ones

and guess what ,we might try a zumba class this week…so scared

  32. Amber @ Stop and Smell the Wildflowers on June 18, 2011 at 5:45 pm

The past five summers I have been working at summer camps/dude ranches so my meals were always pretty much decided for me. So I have no idea what I usually eat during the summer- I’m gradually figuring it out. 🙂

  33. Clare @ Fitting It All In on June 18, 2011 at 5:52 pm

I always want either cold overnight oats or a smoothie in the summer. I often have the oats for breakfast and the smoothie for dinner!

  34. Samantha on June 18, 2011 at 6:36 pm

Love the quote you posted today! We’re preparing for PCS and since it’s OCONUS again, we have to pack out several weeks in advance. So every single morning for the past few weeks and the next several I’ve have greek yogurt with blueberries and a bit of granola. And coffee , lots of coffee.

  35. Andrea @ Onion in My Hair on June 18, 2011 at 6:43 pm

I have got to buy those bagels! BTW, I am doing your HIIT workout tomorrow morning that you posted earlier this week!

  36. Shelley on June 18, 2011 at 7:37 pm

MMM that looks like a yummy!. My go to breakfast in the summer would have to be a green smoothie and cookie dough cereal – obviously :). Have a great day at work!

Yogurt messes and overnight oats are my favourite summer breakfasts. Especially topped with lots of fresh, local berries!

  38. cathy on June 18, 2011 at 8:23 pm

saturday is my wednesday because i work retail, so i hear you on having “mixed up” weeks/weekends! but one of my fave days because it’s busy and social.
i find titles jump into my mind…it’s the photo part of blogging that tends to bog me down!
hope you had a great day of classes, gina!

  39. Ali on June 18, 2011 at 10:10 pm

Hey lady! I know how you feel, I work on Saturdays too, while my lovely love gets to stay home all snuggly in bed. Alas, a girl’s gotta do what a girls gotta do, right? I love fruit in the summer. So fresh and refreshing. Although I am sure it is no where near as warm where I am as it is where you are! I also love banana ice cream, all summer long. Have you ever tried adding frozen mango or frozen berries to your banana ice cream? It is crazy good!

  40. kari on June 18, 2011 at 10:20 pm

hey gina, hope your day was great. i look forward to my five egg whites and oatmeal afterwards. lately i have been adding a tablespoon of cocoa and maca powder. i usually add in cinnamon, peanut butter, ginger powder, protein powder and a dollop of Fage greek yogurt on top. its so good… well, have a restful sunday to you both!

  41. Heather on June 18, 2011 at 10:41 pm

I am wanting cold foods too, especially living in NYC without ac in my apartment during the summertime. My favorite right now is plain greek yogurt with some honey, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries, with a little granola sprinkled on top. I could eat that for every meal! 🙂

  42. Liv on June 19, 2011 at 12:41 am

Love your tips! Such great fruits in season during the summer…so definitely smoothies, low-fat granola with fruit, fruit salads, etc. during the summer for breakfast. whats up with gluten free items haaving tons of fat? well that’s an exaggeration – but I checked out those bagels and some waffles and it seems more than most bread items. I think I should just make rice or something for carbs== it’s less expensive too

  46. Ash on June 19, 2011 at 10:05 am

So I tried searching your blog for the answer, but I couldn’t find what I was looking for. I’m pretty sure you must have answered this question before, but where is that smoothie glass that you always use from?

    Thanks!

(Also, is there an email notification option for whenever you reply to our comments?)

  47. Lisa on June 19, 2011 at 10:13 am

Tell Tom Happy Fathers Day!! In my perfect world I would drink a green smoothie but I usually grab a Kind or Larabar at work. And I must have coffee.

  48. Marissa on June 19, 2011 at 12:36 pm

I agree, coming up with titles is the hardest part about blogging! I actually don’t drink smoothies… they always get gaggy towards the end with me (but I do love plain protein shakes–weird!) My summer breakfast staple this year is definately chocolate cottage cheese: 24 oz tub of cottage cheese (love me some dairy!) + 6 tbsp cocoa powder + sweetener! Yumyumyum. I’ve had this at least 4 times a week since mid-March!

  49. April@motorcity running girl on June 19, 2011 at 6:01 pm
