My miso paste-eating friend

Hey everyone! Hope you’re all having a wonderful Friday so far 😀

I started mine with an avocolada sludge:

012

1/2 avocado, 1 banana, 1/2 cup fresh chopped pineapple, 3/4 container of coconut water, smoothie infusion, sea salt, Stevia, vanilla and a little cinnamon.

It was scrumptious—so creamy and thick, that I had to eat it with a spoon 😀 I like feeling like I’m having a milkshake for bfast 😉

I spent a good part of the morning cleaning the upstairs and our casa is now spotless, and then made some lonchi.

Raw Party Wraps

015

Looks like a party on a plate, ehh?

I took romaine leaves and spread chickpea miso on there and topped each leaf with cucumber, bell pepper, carrot, and a drizzle of almond butter.

I love the miso/almond butter combo:

016

Nutty + salty = lip smackin’ good

When I got into work, the other trainer (who is Novice Mr. Georgia—pretty darn impressive) decided to ask me what I had for lunch…. I was like “Are you sure you want to know??”

So I got to explain miso paste to him and my romaine wraps while he devoured a plate of Southern BBQ 😉 He was like “that’s cool Gina Pina, my miso paste-eating friend”

Are there any *weird* foods you’re loving right now??

When I got home from training appt #1 (I took her some Super Charge Me cookies) and 35 minutes ellipticizing and back and biceps with Jeni, I grabbed a snack and took the puppies out.

Mango and kiwi:

017

I want summer fruit ALL year!!!!!

Well I’m going back to work and will probably go to the movies with some friends when I get out.

Have a great night!

xoxo,

G

*I asked Jeni for the cheesecake recipe and she said she would email it to me.. and that I could share it with you guys 😀 So expect a delicious recipe soon!

Today’s tip: Make sure you’re alternating high and low intensities for your cardio workouts. There’s no point in going balls to the wall everyday, which is a major reason why I take it pretty easy when I’m not teaching. Remember *change creates change* (my motto) and doing the same thing (in this case, intensity) every day is not going to shock your muscles into seeing the results you’re looking for. That’s why it’s a smart move to alternate sprints with steady state, hills and flats, etc. etc. blah blah. 😀 Shake things up a little!

    Weird foods ……

Well I am in a chia seed phase at the moment and am trying to incorporate them everywhere. I have been surprised at how versatile they are.

I have also been cooking with green tea lately. Although I am not certain that is really so much a weird food as it is an unsual use for a common food.

  5. dirtyduck on July 31, 2009 at 5:15 pm

any weird foods right now,,,, i feel like i live in a constant state of "is anyone going to see me put this into my mouth" i had a love affair with nutritional yeast for awhile, it was reaeelly good to use for vegan "baked manicotti" (sp?), like seriously good. but right now i throw-down with my sea salt and strange grains that i got in the bulk food section. taking a white powder from a paper bag HAS gotten me a few looks. Also the grains that i have been loving like quinoa (i know there is a u on there right?)well i cant blame the "doodes" that i live with for the dubious looks sent my way…the stuff grows a tail when cooked.

Haha, that's funny about the "miso friend". I marinated fish in miso paste and mirin last night and turned out so delicious! Thanks for provoking me to use miso!!

Hii Gina! I am going to Orlando on Saturday to do some shopping and I think I am going to eat at Seasons 52! I know you eat there a lot. Anything I absolutely have to get?? ( I eat everything 🙂

I love working out differently everyday! My workouts are never boring!

    mmm Mango and kiwi!!

Great tip. Change equals change! That can be applied to so many things. I'm gonna have to remember that one..

  11. Ashley on July 31, 2009 at 6:39 pm

I'm obsessed with Kombucha, an obsession that completely grosses out my family and friends, lol

  12. shelby on July 31, 2009 at 6:45 pm

Fabulous smoothie! I love the addition of avocado, it makes it super creamy!

Oh my gosh and those wraps! Delish!

I may have had 2 more macaroons today…they are going to be gone too soon! haha

  13. Julia on July 31, 2009 at 7:05 pm

Miso isn't weird…!!! but maybe that's just because I am Japanese, and no Japanese family can go more than two days without using miso! haha

  14. Jen Papaya on July 31, 2009 at 8:21 pm

wierd foods? I love making spinach oats…it's basically just slow-cook Irish oats cooked on the stove with a ton of fresh (or frozen!) spinach thrown in as soon as it comes to a boil. If you food-process the spinach first it works even better. Then just prepare the oatmeal however you normally would.

I usually throw in some cottage cheese, a spoonfull of nut butter and some fruit. I don't actually think it's all that wierd, but when I eat it at my desk at work I certainly get a lot of funny looks from my coworkers 🙂

  15. AzLinda on July 31, 2009 at 8:33 pm

Aww, "little miso-eating friend" how adorable 😉

I don't think I have any weird food cravings right now…well, I eat hard boiled pickled egg whites…I guess a lot of people thinks that's strange and gross…haha

Hey, I like someone's idea of the green's in oats…sounds like that would be really good!

I've been dong three cardio sessions each week. One being high intensity interval cardio for about 30 minutes, one high intensity cardio, and one high intensity intervaled with light weights high reps for building stamina. Then I do 3 days of heavy weight lifting with no cardio. I'm trying to really mix it up…glad you think that is that this is the best way to do it 😀

  16. HangryPants on July 31, 2009 at 9:49 pm

Gina Pina – that's awesome! I think it's cool that you are spreading the weird food love! 😀

  17. Cait (Cait's Plate) on July 31, 2009 at 10:43 pm

Oh my gosh that avocolada sludge looks AMAZING!!!

I don't think there's any weird foods I'm currently loving right now…I'm so boring! 😉

  18. Amanda (Panda) on July 31, 2009 at 10:45 pm

Yay!! Can't wait for the cheesecake recipe! Also, great tip about switching up the intensity of cardio, etc., sometimes it's easy to get caught up into pushing yourself super hard every time, so it's good to know that taking it easy sometimes is okay!

  19. heyitstay on July 31, 2009 at 11:45 pm

Yay I'm stoked for that recipe!! I looked so light and fluffy, just how you described it. Can't wait!

weird food- used to mix peanut butter and egg whites every day haha. happy weekend! so glad your nightmares didn't come. i really think being awake for a bit after drinking some vino works for me 🙂

  21. wholebodylove on August 1, 2009 at 1:02 am

Hmm…I like to make burritos with ezekiel tortillas, organic pinto beans, tofutti "sour cream", and spinach with salsa and enchilada sauce for dipping. I also put nutritional yeast and Amy's BBQ on my Hugh Jass Salads. I also love the Cascadian Farms Cinnamon Crunch cereal with chocolate almond, coconut or soy milk and banana …delicious!

  22. Emily Eats on August 1, 2009 at 2:13 am

Yum yum yum yum yum to your avocolada sludge!
& I second your wanting summer fruit all year long. I am currently hopelessly addicted to mangoes. I am trying to fit them into every meal (in this case, I also overlook food combining!).
Have a great day 🙂 emily.

  23. Meredith (Pursuing Balance) on August 1, 2009 at 8:07 am

    Your breakfast looks delish!

  24. Anna on August 1, 2009 at 8:51 am

Aw his response is so cute! He sounds like a nice guy.

In my experience, nothing freaks people out like nutritional yeast. Nothing. The combination of the color, the dirty socks scent, and the fact that the name contains the words "nutritional" and "yeast." Hah.

  25. CaSaundraLeigh on August 1, 2009 at 9:51 am

Looking forward to the cheesecake recipe–thanks!! 🙂

  26. fittingbackin on August 1, 2009 at 9:58 am

Thanks for the tip – I need to put that on a post-it EVERYWHERE – i'm bad about getting into a comfortable routine and doing it over and over and over… THanks!! Happy Weekend!

  27. Carolyn on August 1, 2009 at 11:13 am

Where do you get your chickpea miso? I have access to WFd's and TJ's…Haven't come across it yet…

    Thanks so much!

  28. Angharad on August 1, 2009 at 1:10 pm

I love your tip of the day – very important to remember! It's so easy to get stuck in a workout schedule that quickly becomes a workout rut.

Your lunch looks unbelievably yum! I am so sad for summer fruits being over soon – I literally seem to incorporate blueberries into every meal at the mo!

  29. Fitnessista on August 1, 2009 at 1:20 pm

carolyn- i got it at the cute little health food store here but had never seen it before. the brand is miso master and it's delicious! i hope you can find some!

  30. Carrie on August 1, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Looking forward to the cheesecake recipe!

I have a smoothie almost everyday, but I eat it out of a bowl. It seems to be more filling than out of a glass that way. Mind tricks. 😉

  31. ttfn300 on August 1, 2009 at 6:22 pm

i'll take that mango and kiwi bowl, please 🙂

  32. Averie on August 1, 2009 at 8:31 pm

Hi Gina, weird foods, hmmm…well, you made me blog about it! I just posted that fermented watermelon rind pickles have been hitting the spot on top my Hugh Jasses lately. Other than that, nothing "too weird"…but I mean, I use xanthum gum on a near daily basis as a thickener. People are usually like, huh? when I tell them LOL

  33. Diana on August 1, 2009 at 9:17 pm

I've been eating a lot of chia seeds lately and I'm pretty sure most of my friends, family, and co-workers don't really know what they are. I told one co-worker and she started singing the "Ch-ch-ch-chia" theme song from the infomercial…niiice. lol 🙂
