Nature’s candy

Such a glorious fall day <3

The weather for the farmer’s market was perfection

market

so the Pilot, Bell and I walked around to check out all of the goods- it’s been a while since we hit up our favorite Sunday farmer’s market.

market (2)

They had the usual fare: salsas, preserves, tea, ethnic foods, local honey, organic eggs and meat, produce galore

and baked goodies:

Here’s what we ended up with:

goodies

Beautiful Swiss chard, corn (for grilling!), jalapeno marinade, local apple cider (for tonight’s pumpkin carving party)

grape tomatoes, which taste like candy, + one ruffle heirloom tomato that the nice tomato man added to the bag for me

The softest, sweetest dates….

dates

[way better than Halloween candy, in my opinion. Then again, I’ve have a few mini Almond Joys today]

I can’t wait to stuff them with goat cheese or almond butter, but they’re also incredible plain.

Sorry Bell, you’re too young to date

and I don’t think they’re good for dogs, anyway.

Pre-errand snack was the classic apple, almond butter + cinnamon combo

apple

and I went to grab a few things at Target and Trader Joe’s. Not only were those two places MADHOUSES –I live for shopping frenzies- but it was really cool to see so many people dressed up in costume on the way to the night’s festivities. The best of the evening were a Grecian goddess and one of the Pan Am flight attendants.

The pumpkin selection at Trader Joe’s was a little iffy, which is what I get for waiting until the last possible minute, but I was able to find two fairly round ones, and one with a nice long stem <—my only requirement for a pumpkin

For now it’s time to curl up with some pumpkin seeds, watch a little bit of this:

I took a lot of fun pictures tonight -  they’ll be up in the morning’s Halloween post, along with Bella in her full costume 😉

See ya in the morning!

xoxo

You look so adorable! And those dates look delicious, I’ve been craving them a lot recently. And those baked goods, even the brioche haha. Yum! Also, I plan to watch Nightmare before Christmas for halloween too! For some reason I’m too scared to watch Hocus Pocus because it scared me when I was younger, haha.

Can’t wait to see Bella all decked out. And yes, dates when they are fresh and soft are heaven in wrinkly form 🙂

    Have a great night, Gina!

I just got some really soft and sweet Medjools at a market this week; they totally are better than candy!

I’m in the same boat — I couldn’t find a pumpkin anywhere last night. I even have a burning skull stencil that I was pretty amped to use. Sigh.

Pan Am flight attendants are such a great idea! Bella will look adorable in her costume 🙂 You got some great stuff at the farmers market!

You’re so luck that you have farmer’s markets still up and running! It’s so chilly here, back in Massachusetts…they’re mostly gone. You swiss chard is gorgeous indeed!

Mmm dates are like candy to me too. Especially in the form of date balls made with almond butter, oats and coconut!

Hope you had a fun pumpkin carving party! 🙂

That tomato looks perfect! I’m so sad tomato season is over in MA. 🙁

I love apple cider! When I was little we used to live in the country and had several large apple trees. One year we picked the trees bare (which required lots of branch-shaking and shenanigans) and took the apples over to a neighbors to grind into cider. Best tasting cider I’ve ever had and a super fun experience. Love Fall <3

Hi Gina! I love your blog! I have a question – I am a server at a busy NYC restaurant. I work 40 hour + weeks on my feet. (I work 5 days a week and have two days off) I have difficulty getting myself to go to the gym when I am exhausted and my feet hurt so badly. I know that once I get in better shape I will have more energy and my shifts won’t seem so hard, but right now I don’t really know how to start getting in that kind of shape when I’m so tired all the time. Is there anything you can suggest for getting started? Thanks!
