No AB, I cry

There’s a serious almond butter drought in our house.

breakfast and lara

Hemp seeds filled the void for today, but thank goodness the Pilot is making a grocery run for some necessities while I’m back at work. When you go through at least a jar a week, it’s smart to have backup. I made a rookie mistake at TJs last week 😉

Last night, we stayed up, drank hot cocoa and watched Taken. We’ve seen it before, but a couple of things in the movie always seem to stick with me for a couple of days:

1) Liam Neeson is a badass.

2) I end up disturbed that stuff like that actually happens.

This morning, I taught a couple of classes  –beginning aerobics, weights/cardio- monitored the weight room, and just came home to grab a quick lunch and my Zumba stuff.

Zumba is going to be crazy today –I can’t wait-

zumba clothes

and after class, I get to don my Baywatch costume and assist the pool workout. I might have to jump in and doggy paddle around.

Hope you’re having a very happy Saturday!

Something to do:

Try your next set of get ups on a Bosu balance trainer:

It’s a great way to add a little extra zing to traditional get ups 🙂

Something to talk about: What are 5 things you always have to have on hand? If we have almond butter, almond milk, oats, salad stuff and eggs, I’m a happy kid.

I love Taken, and Liam 🙂 My five things: peanut flour, honey, almond milk, eggs, cheese (of any kind).

  2. Brittany on April 21, 2012 at 4:29 pm

Taken is awesome. I’m Albanian and She was taken by the Albanian Mafia. When they were speaking Albanian, you have no idea how many times they swore!! So funny!

  3. April on April 21, 2012 at 4:31 pm

I love the Zumba outfits–makes me want to take a class soon!

5 things I always have on hand: chocolate coconut milk, skippy superchunk reduced fat peanut butter, bananas, Gardenburgers, and lightly salted rice cakes. I think that adequately covers my cravings on any given day!

  4. Hillary on April 21, 2012 at 4:37 pm

I’m like that with peanut butter! I always have two jars in the house. I also need eggs, milk, bananas, COFFEE, and veggies (fresh or frozen). Those staples can keep me covered for a while!

  5. Barb on April 21, 2012 at 4:41 pm

Taken scared the bajesus outta me. I reallllly didn’t like it but couldn’t stop watching. It kills me that things like that actually happen…

  6. Laura @ She Eats Well on April 21, 2012 at 4:45 pm

I’m out of AB too. Boo! And so was the grocery store (WTF). I’m going to make my own batch of maple almond butter right now. Five things I always have on hand: eggs, spinach, almond milk, flax seed, coconut oil!

  7. Averie @ Averie Cooks on April 21, 2012 at 4:55 pm

    Cute pants!

And I always have backups of condiments…never know when I’m going to need extra cookie butter, PB, mango chutney, etc…what can I say, I love dips & spreads. Hope you get your AB soon 🙂

  8. Mandy M on April 21, 2012 at 5:24 pm

Wish I could doggy paddle in a pool today!
2 most essentials are coffee and soymilk. Can’t start the day without them.
I also get a little panicky if we are out of eggs, fruit, and yoghurt.

I think since I’ve become a mother I have such a LOW tolerance for any kind of movie that shows a child being snatched, taken, mistreated, etc. I can’t even watch my favorite show (Criminal Minds) if it has a kidnapping at the plot, it literally makes me sick to my stomach. While catching up on the DVR this week, I watched Private Practice…not only was it about a mother who suffered from Post Partum and murdered her children, then delivered another one, it was about a young mother passing away from cancer while her 10 year old son was there…I SOBBED like a baby through out the whole thing…now keep in mind I’m 33 weeks pregnant with my third, so the hormones are raging, but still…it’s all heartwrenching. I cannot handle any kind of crime or show when it has to do with children…as much as I may like the actual show….

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2012 at 10:43 pm

ever since i got pregnant, my attitude towards a lot of things like that changed. they went from really bothering me, to really, deeply disturbing me.

  10. AshleyC on April 21, 2012 at 5:29 pm

Oh, and to answer the actual question…I MUST have Shredded Wheat on hand, milk, popcorn, bananas, and right now, Oreos…haha, that’s the craving for the moment!

  11. Melissa (Better Fit) on April 21, 2012 at 5:49 pm

Haha- oh no! No almond butter! Actually, that is one of my 5, so: almond butter :), coffee, oats, flax seed, bananas. It’s tough to choose just 5!

  12. Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries on April 21, 2012 at 6:43 pm

the way you feel about your almond butter is how i feel about my peanut butter. it’s tragic if there’s not pb in the house. 🙂 along with pb, i also need to have eggs, oats, milk, and spinach.

  13. Courtney on April 21, 2012 at 6:45 pm

I loved Taken. I think he killed about 50 people in that movie trying to get to his daughter! And yes, it’s very heartbreaking that it really happens.

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2012 at 10:43 pm

we were talking about that- wondering what the consequences would be when he came home

      • Julie on April 24, 2012 at 12:39 pm

Super-late response, but Taken 2 is either being filmed now or is finished filming and will be out in the next 6 months, maybe they will address that. We also wondered what would happen or if because he was a CIA former agent, if they get a secret license to “open a can” if the circumstances warrant it.

  14. Ana on April 21, 2012 at 6:59 pm

Wow! You just mentioned my 5 favorite foods/staples!!!! If I have those I am the happiest too!! fruits and protein for smoothies are also things I love 🙂

  15. Kelly on April 21, 2012 at 7:00 pm

I loved this post and the BOSU exercise looks awesome, thank you for sharing!
    My top 5 are:
    kabocha squash
    cabbage
whole wheat tortillas (tj’s low carb)
    bananas
    and like you: almond butter!

  16. Kaila @healthyhelperblog! on April 21, 2012 at 7:10 pm

BIG Liam Neeson fan right here! Schindlers List is one of my favorite movies of all time!!

Hmm lets see 5 things? Thats tough! I would say apples, carrots, plain yogurt, eggs, and broccoli!

  17. Ramani on April 21, 2012 at 7:17 pm

Gina, question about your teaching. I have always wondered whether you work out on the days you teach? Or do you move so much when you are teaching that you don’t need to? No wonder you are in such great shape, you teach a lot!! 🙂 So jelly.

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2012 at 7:37 pm

No way- I’m dead by the end of the day. Even on my easy teaching days, I don’t work out on top of that
I’m lucky to have jobs that I enjoy so much

  18. Allison on April 21, 2012 at 7:40 pm

i love zumba wear just because of all the awesome colours!!
And also, love almond butter, i bought some a week or two ago now, since you rave about it so often, (the paleo diet has almonds and no peanuts or peanut butter), so i figured why not give it a try. and i fell in love! i like it more than peanut butter!!

  19. Smylee on April 21, 2012 at 7:58 pm

    Lurve the pants! 😉

  20. Negar M on April 21, 2012 at 8:20 pm

Zumba outfits are special. So very special 😉 I am 99% sure you have a good sense of humor about them, and if I had an instructor that didn’t wear all the embellishments…I’d feel pretty meh about the class.

I love Liam, but that movie ruined my life! My father (who speaks almost no English) watched that movie and now thinks things like that happen ALL THE TIME. Every time I get on a plane to leave the country, the man flips out.

    • Fitnessista on April 21, 2012 at 10:32 pm

i can’t blame him! ish was scary
haha and yes i definitely have a sense of humor about the clown outfits 🙂 they make it more fun, though

  21. Danica @ It's Progression on April 21, 2012 at 8:23 pm

I always have peanut butter, bananas, oatmeal, apples, and baby carrots (plus many other things : )

  22. Lisa on April 21, 2012 at 8:40 pm

Taken freaked me out too! I always get scared of movies like that, yet I keep watching them. I love almond butter, I realized this week I prefer the roasted compared to raw

  23. Brittany (Eating Bird Food) on April 21, 2012 at 9:24 pm

The five things I always have on hand are identical to yours. I also try to have raw nuts, frozen berries, edamame and frozen shrimp.

Hope you’re having a great weekend.

  24. Kayla on April 21, 2012 at 9:58 pm

    must haves in my apartment:
    -peanut butter
    – whole wheat bread
    – white chocolate macadamia luna bars
    – whole wheat pasta
    – pasta sauce

  25. kari on April 21, 2012 at 10:19 pm

Hi Gina, those items are also in my house at all times. Cute zumba outfit. have a good night..

  26. Kristen on April 21, 2012 at 10:41 pm

I would say my top 5 are: peanut butter, cheese, deli sliced turkey, almond milk, and oats. Bonus: some kind of salad greens
I would say chocolate but I had to cut it out for a little while. I was getting way overzealose with my chocolate consumption. I’ll bring it back eventually. 🙂

  27. amanda on April 21, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Oh gosh, your zumba duds are awesome. One day I’ll take a zumba class 🙂
I always (always always) need on hand: breakfast stuff! (almond butter, coconut milk creamer, coffee, fresh fruit and some sort of oats/oat bran/quinoa flakes/groats/whatevs)

  28. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on April 22, 2012 at 7:55 am

I haven’t seen Taken… but I love Liam Neeson in Love Actually haha. 😛

5 things I always have to have on hand are: bananas, soy nut butter, Greek yogurt, oats and bread!

  29. Lauren on April 22, 2012 at 3:22 pm

Omg, I just moved back home from uni and we’re almost out of almond butter here. I made my Mom go out and get some immediately. I will die without it. Seriously.

  30. Alexandria on April 23, 2012 at 9:23 am

My husband watchs Taken every, single.time it’s on TV. When it first came out on HBO I think we watched it once or twice a week. For some reason badass movies never get boring. 😉

  31. carmen on April 23, 2012 at 11:06 am

Taken is definately disturbing! Scary that I’ve heard of similar things happening in this country. Almond butter is a must. I picked some up at the store yesterday, got home and realized I am almost out of oats! My top five are: almond butter, oats, coconut oil, almond or coconut milk and eggs.

  32. Melissa on April 23, 2012 at 1:05 pm

    Love the Zumba wear!

And even though the Pens lost yesterday, glad to your bro representing for the Penguins! 🙂

  33. pluvk on April 28, 2012 at 2:47 am

I still have to try Zumba! One day… hopefully soon. 🙂
My five would have to be: lettuce, frozen veggies, apples, oatmeal, and eggs (and grapes, spinach, mushrooms, somen noodles, and crab!!)
