Not a bad view

I’ve been on a protein pancake kick lately.

Protein pancakes

I realized they’re just as quick and easy to make as my beloved egg burrito, and keep me satisfied for a long time. This morning’s batch accidentally had about a tablespoon of baking powder, since I kind of stopped measuring things. I tapped the can a little too fiercely and my pancakes ended up tasting like baking powder, and since there was no time to make another batch, I covered them with almond butter, maple syrup and then jelly. It worked.

This morning we had to take Liv to the ped’s to get her 6 month shots.

Ped

(The best pic we could get- she was dominating that ball table thingy)

The Pilot brought me an eegee so I’d feel better. As calm and relaxed as I try to be for her sake, in the end, I’m always holding her as she cries afterwards with tears streaming down my face. She’s laying on the table so happily, cooing at everyone and then as soon as the shot goes in (the nurse is ninja quick), the big frowny face and alligator tears come out. Breaks. My. Heart.

Eegee

We wait ALL YEAR for July to be here. Watermelon > all other eegee flavors.

Dinner tonight was kind of a fun little surprise:

Mexi feast 2

While I was putting Liv to sleep, the Pilot set out our new balcony chairs and cushions (World Market is having an awesome sale), so we could dine on the balcony.

Chicken tacos for him:

Tacos 2

(I cooked the chicken with onions so they caramelized, and seasoned with cumin, paprika, seat salt, pepper and chipotle Cholula)

and taco salad for me:

Salad 9

With guac, potatoes, zucchini, chicken onion mixture, greens, covered in salsa

I would have had mine taco-style, too, but had brown rice cereal as an appetizer while I was cooking:

Cereal 3

An amazing little feast:

Mexi feast

With Bella and her crazy chicken eyes, praying some food would fall:

Bell 2

and a verrrrry nice view. The sunset wasn’t too bad, either 😉

Sunset 4

I’m off to film this week’s Tabata Thursday video. Who did the Schweaty July Workout today??

Have a great night and I’ll see ya in the morning!

xoxo

New Family post! Liv is 6 months old <3

Head’s up: Tarte (one of my favorite makeup lines- they make the eyeliner and eye shadow palette I’m obsessed with) is having a new set available this Friday only at QVC.

Tarte 2

It’s valued at $160 and is under $50 for the 6 items, including:

-lip shine (in a perfect shade of pink- it looks more like a tint and goes on smoothly)

-foundation (which I usually skip and use tinted moisturizer instead. Since my current moisturizer isn’t tinted, I gave the foundation a try and it was very nice to have my skin all be almost the same color. It was like, not cake-y, and word to the wise: it runs a little dark. I got the light shade and it’s perfect, when I’d usually use medium)

-maracuja oil rollerball, which contains Vitamin C and essential fatty acids to smooth, brighten and firm skin. I used it before bed the other night and loved how soft it made my skin feel.

-creaseless shadow/liner combo- new fave, 100%. It was a fun switch-up and the eyeshadow lasts all day and is a lovely light, shimmery pinkish plum color.

-foundation brush- excellent quality and I used it to make sure I didn’t get that funny foundation chin line

-mascara- this is the only thing from the set I have yet to try. I save mascara for “special occasions” (like date night or a party) because I think that everyday use actually makes your lashes look shorter. I’m weird, but whenever I actually do use mascara, I feel like it works better because it’s not something I usually use? Anyway, I’m excited to try it out.

Tarte 3

Tarte creates products with incredible quality, as they last a long time, have staying power and gorgeous colors. Bonus: they’re also natural and cruelty-free (never tested on animals). A percentage of proceeds from the sale of this kit will go to SAP (Sustainable Amazon Partnership) which helps promote lasting sustainable management of the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest. Definitely worth checking out! (Don’t forget, it’s this Friday only at QVC.com)

Thank you to Tarte for sending me the set to try out! It was a freebie, but as always, all opinions are my own <3

That taco salad looks SO good! I have been on quite the zucchini kick lately! Not that I mind. Happy 1/2 year to Liv, she is growing up so quickly!! And I think I need that makeup quit in my life, I love tarte makeup, especially their eyeshadow primer! That’s a great price for all of that stuff.

That taco salad does look really good!

I like the idea of modifying food for hubby and wife. My husband needs a lot more calories than I do, so we modify a lot in my house, too.

I’m the same way with vaccines they always end with me crying more than the baby haha

I can imagine taking a little one to the doctor knowing their fate will be sad faces in tears from shots is no easy task. A fun drink definitely sounds like it’s deserved!

  4. Quinn on July 10, 2012 at 12:50 am

Poor Liv 🙁 Sooo…What exactly is an eggee?? I’ve heard SO much and I think it’s sort of snow cone-ish, but I might be totally wrong!

    • Fitnessista on July 10, 2012 at 1:27 am

an eegee is like a slushy, but the ice is a very fine texture, so it’s not grainy at all. it’s hard to explain, but it’s the perfect summer drink

  5. Kelly @ My Love Affair with Running on July 10, 2012 at 12:52 am

I am totally with you on watermelon being the best flavour! Always so refreshing 😉

  6. Averie @ Averie Cooks on July 10, 2012 at 1:35 am

The taco salads look delish and sounds like Livi did good (despite mama being a little anxious — totally normal!) but glad you are all doing well 🙂

There are a lot of blogs I’ve stopped reading because the writers pimp out products that companies have sent them. I never feel like you are unauthentic and for that I am SO grateful. I would say keep being that way, but I believe it’s just who you are! 🙂 That being said, I LOVE Tarte products! I can’t believe QVC is having such a sale… AND the day after my payday as well. It’s fate!!!!!

    • Fitnessista on July 10, 2012 at 12:36 pm

thank you, tara! it makes me happy when readers notice that because it’s something that’s really important to me. i never accept products from companies that i don’t already know and love, and decline trips from companies i don’t support.
if you try the set, i hope you love it!
thank you for reading and for such a sweet comment <3

Qvc has a LOT of awesome beauty products from many premier brands and many times the kits are exclusive to them and much cheaper than if you bought all the products at the stores. I’ve been waiting for Friday to get here so I can order that kit. Tarte mascaras are awesome and that particular one is nice too. Now I really can’t wait to get it 🙂

  9. Melissa (Better Fit) on July 10, 2012 at 7:20 am

Looks like a lovely dinnertime treat!

I’m hopelessly bad at applying eye liner. I always end up with a big black smudge around my eyes! Yours always looks great- have you done a how-to post on this that I’ve missed?

  10. Amanda on July 10, 2012 at 7:28 am

I just can’t find an eyeliner/mascara combo that doesn’t smudge eventually and leave those little marks on the sides under your eyes by the end of the day. It makes me sad. I’ve tried everything, even waterproof (which does last a little longer) but no luck. That being said, I’ve never heard of this brand so I may have to check it out.

  11. Danielle@cleanfoodcreativefitness on July 10, 2012 at 7:46 am

That salad looks so great! I’m going to have to try that out! I was on a protein pancake kick for a while and kind of got off of it but it might be time to bring them back! I love them and they keep me full forever! Poor you and Livi at the Doc. I’m not quite sure how I’m going to handle that when I have kids but I can only imagine how difficult it must be!

  12. Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed on July 10, 2012 at 8:11 am

And now I want a taco salad, yum! That pic of the sunset is beautiful 😀

  13. Purely Twins on July 10, 2012 at 8:50 am

your taco salad looked amazing!! great view indeed 🙂

we want to try tarte makeup, and think you just have convinced us to go get some.

  14. Lauren on July 10, 2012 at 8:55 am

I know exactly what you mean about the mascara- like if eyelashes are always long and black, then when you do go out for a special occasion, you won’t look any different than you do everyday. And wearing false lashes is not an option because they freak me out.

  15. Tiffany on July 10, 2012 at 9:15 am

I think we have almost the exact same table that we bought 2 years ago from World Market. The 6 month shots are the worst. We had to go to a new ped because we PCSed and they had a different combo of shots than the last ped and Sydney had to get an extra shot. She even spiked a fever that night for the first time, poor baby. So, I definitely know how you feel. Take care though, the 9 month appt. doesn’t involve any shots, whew.

  16. Erin @ The Grass Skirt on July 10, 2012 at 10:08 am

I’ve been on a protein pancake kick too. I swear that I could eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

  17. Marie on July 10, 2012 at 10:36 am

Man, can I come over for dinner some time; your meals always look so tasty! I recently got the tarte eyeliner after you posted about it. I used a MAC pencil before so it’s harder using this since it seems like a liquid liner but it’s really nice that it’s waterproof with all this humidity we experience in TX. It was my first time at Sephora ever and I really liked it; they are so much more helpful than the department stores!

    • Fitnessista on July 10, 2012 at 12:34 pm

      haha of course!
LOVE sephora, too- the employees are amazing

  18. Menden @ My Goal Called Life on July 10, 2012 at 10:43 am

The tacos and taco salad look so good!

I’ve been wanting to try more Tarte products (I love their eye shadows!), but I definitely don’t need to feed my cosmetics addiction right now. Seriously, I’m a hoarder, and I need to be stopped 😉

  19. Lola on July 10, 2012 at 11:04 am

When I was very young my mom told me to never wear mascara for it would make my eyelashes fall out. She said hers were very long until she started using it. I am not sure if it is true but to this day I still don’t use mascara.

    • Fitnessista on July 10, 2012 at 12:34 pm

i believe it, because every time i’ve used mascara, when i take it off, eyelashes come with it. i stopped using it and my eyelashes look so much better

  20. mary on July 10, 2012 at 11:29 am

I don’t wear mascara except for special occasions, either. I hate how it feels and I hate removing it. And I don’t think it adds much to my appearance.

I’m a sucker for Tarte boxes and for deals. Thanks for the heads up, Tarte! Is that an eyeliner pencil in there? I can’t tell. I could use one.

It’s so hard watching the shots. I still recall that day when the doctor said, “She’s done with shots til age 12!” WOOHOO!

    • Fitnessista on July 10, 2012 at 12:33 pm

omg, i’m so excited for that day (even though it’s a long time from now!)
and yes, the shadow is an eyeliner duo. it’s amazing
      xoxo

Amazing taco salad! I keep hearing that pediatric appointments are super traumatizing for the parents more than the kids and I can believe it! You can’t explain to them what’s going on so it’s heartbreaking to watch them go through pain. 🙁

  22. Amy on July 10, 2012 at 12:53 pm

I modify for my hubs, too, and even share my meal with my son because I have (finally) have a decreased appetite after pregnancy and nursing. I did the SSU workout 1 yesterday and my steady state cardio today. Thank God for magazines (me) and Sesame Street (my toddler)- we were both distracted and entertained!

  23. Cara on July 13, 2012 at 9:29 am

Thanks for the tip on the foundation running a little dark! I would never usually go with the lightest shade, but I did in this case. Keeping my fingers crossed that it is a good fit. I <3 Tarte and have been anxiously awaiting the launch of this kit. Thanks again for your always honest opinions.
