Not a drag at all

Hiiii 😀 What’s crack-a-lackin? Hope your Saturday is treating you well <3

Quite a bit has gone down in the last 24 hours…

tempest

More on that in a sec 😉

My mom and I went to Colors last night for a Guys and Dolls show. My good friend Cameron was doing the Michael Jackson thang and my mom hasn’t experienced it yet, so I was excited to bring her with me 🙂

mom

He performed with his backup dancers, and they were AMAZING as usual. I’ve written about it before, but he doesn’t pretend to be Michael Jackson, he IS Michael Jackson. It’s creepy, really.

cameron

guys

He’s so talented and Tucson is way too small for him. Any Vegas event bookers out there? I’m just sayin’ 😉

We ordered some food- salmon with veggies for me and quesadilla for the madre

and enjoyed the show, which included some very unique and fun performances.

It’s always motivating to see men who pay way more attention to their hair and makeup than I do. They were beautiful, for real.

This morning, I packed up some food and got ready for my first day of teaching at the resort.

(protein muffin and ballz)

The verdict?

It went well!!! My beginning cardio/strength class ended up being a blasty –I was dreading that one because I wasn’t sure what to do with my combo, but I winged it, and it worked- and Zumba felt so.freaking.good. I really missed teaching! The class was PACKED and only one guest left. I was really happy about it 🙂

Lunch was courtesy of Eclectic Cafe:

I wasn’t really in the mood for anything in particular, but when I called I asked the server what she suggested, she mentioned this warm chicken salad which sounded ok –bell peppers sounded way off today so I asked for none of those- but as soon as she said creamy dill dressing, I was sold. It was perfect.

I’m back at the casa, exhausted, and am going to rest for a while before meeting with friends tonight 🙂 Has anyone seen Something Borrowed yet?!

Enjoy your night! <3

xoxo

Gina

Something to think:

People often say that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder,’ and I say that the most liberating thing about beauty is realizing that you are the beholder. This empowers us to find beauty in places where others have not dared to look, including inside ourselves.

Congrats on your first day of teaching Gina! I love how much energy you can get off of a packed class and I’m sure they all loved you! I haven’t seen Something Borrowed yet but I really want to. My roommate is reading the book (the movie is based on the book, right?) and so far she says she can’t put it down! Have a lovely night!

I’ve never gone to a show like that – looks like a lot of fun!

  5. caryn on May 7, 2011 at 8:26 pm

congrats on your fun classes! beautiful picture of you and your mom too!
i don’t know if this is too narrow of a topic for your readers, but an idea for a reader’s request post could be something about how to be a great instructor. i teach classes at my university, and i’m always looking for tips on how to keep things exciting, how to improve or enhance my teaching personality/style, how to be encouraging (without repeating myself too much! lol), etc. just a thought! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 7, 2011 at 8:29 pm

that’s a great idea for a post! i know quite a few readers are fellow instructors, so it might be a good plan- thank you 🙂

      • caryn on May 7, 2011 at 9:33 pm

        neato! thank YOU!

      • Danielle on May 7, 2011 at 10:42 pm

If you feel that might be too narrow, you could do 1/2 the post for “how to be a good instructor” and 1/2 for “how to be a good participant”. I have been taking classes since high school, but I know that I still feel nervous when it’s a new style I haven’t taken, and I know that a lot of people are nervous about group classes. Stuff like, is it okay to leave during the stretches, or do instructors hate that? Should you go up front if you don’t know the moves? Chatting w/ friends during class, setting up equipment, etc. Just general “class etiquette” would be a fun read!

Good Idea! I always feel supah awkward at first in classes.

Creamy Dill Dressing….I made a homemade version of it about 2 mos ago and it’s become a staple for me. Vegenaise as the base and then went from there.

Congrats on your 1st day! WOW! A packed class…that’s so awesome!

Love drag shows! I live in the heart of San Diego’s gay community. So many great drag shows in my area. And my neighbors are some of the starring performers. Walking down the block any day of the week I don’t know who is a man and who is a woman. Beauty is beauty.

Happy you and your mom had a blast!

1 person leaving is not bad at ALL! Congrats 🙂 I had a horrible zumba instructor 2 weeks ago and I think like 7 of us left before the class was over. Felt kind of bad…but it was pretty awful.
Also I love your ruffley top so if you want to tell me where it’s from that would be fab. Kthanxbye xo

I can’t wait to get back to my house to enjoy some protein muffins. I tried my first one last week & they are definitely what foodgasmic dreams are made of. 😀

Glad you had a great first day of teaching!

Good luck with the new gig!

  17. Sarah @TheExpatBride on May 7, 2011 at 10:31 pm

Looks like so much fun! Contests on the successful classes, nothing like a good zumba! I’m always impressed that teachers can speak so well when moving so much.

  18. jen on May 7, 2011 at 10:33 pm

I saw it! The movie theater at cortaro has $6 movies on thursdays and $5 movies before 12, so i went and saw it at 11 am. I could definitely relate (hadn’t read the book though), so the movie really touched me. 🙂

Hi there! I love your blog & your recipes look amazing, however I’ve never used a protein powder in anything and have heard from a few people that you need to be careful with that bc it could cause you to bulk up. I just had a baby 9 months ago & am reall happy with getting my shape back however I do not want to get any bigger. I wasn’t sure if there was any truth to that or if I shouldn’t believe the hype. Would love for you to ‘whey’ ( pardon the pun) in on this subject or point me in the direction where I can find some info onthis. Thanks so much!

    • Fitnessista on May 8, 2011 at 12:47 am

that is a total myth- too much of any type of calories (fat, protein and carbs) will cause you to gain weight and “bulk” up. if you have a balance of the 3, you’re fine! congrats on your baby 🙂

  23. Sarah on May 8, 2011 at 12:08 am

Hello Gina! I just found your blog today when I googled “protein pancakes!” Sometimes I find myself in a little bit of a rut when it comes to fitness and eating healthy and your site was just what I needed to pull myself out of the funk! Your enthusiasm is catching. and I’m excited to check back! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 8, 2011 at 12:46 am

that’s fabulous- nice to *meet* you! 🙂

  24. Char on May 8, 2011 at 12:43 am

Movie looks good! I hope it’s not just the best parts of the movie put into the previews…I always hate when they do that! I saw Arthur the other day and I really enjoyed it. It was quite funny!

That Salma Hayek quote is fantastic. I love drag shows. And drag queens. And the fact that you took your mom. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 8, 2011 at 10:47 am

it was random and amazeballs at the same time

  29. Cameo Morningstar on May 8, 2011 at 8:58 am

Super FUN! I love that you and your mom hit up a drag show – what fun! I used to go all the time when I lived in Portland, Or, but since moving to the Big City, I don’t get out much…haha, ironic.

  30. Raya on May 8, 2011 at 8:12 pm

I saw Something Borrowed last night!!! It was totally cute-everything I expected. And several parts of it had me seriously cracking up.

  31. Tempest DuJour on June 11, 2011 at 7:35 pm

So happy you enjoyed our show! As host (I’m the big queen in leopard print…), I am proud that so many people from so many backgrounds are able to come and spend a couple of hours having fun on a Friday night! Hope to see you again!
