Not from the blue box

Heyyyy 😀 Hope your night is going well!

Mine has been a little more chill than originally intended. My glasses have given me the worst headache –I’m just not used to them at all- and I ended up skipping Pilates and canceling Zumba. I feel badly for canceling my class but there was no way I could teach tonight :/ I’m tempting to call it quits on this glasses thing and put my contacts in tomorrow….

Anywho, lunch was legendary.

lunch

Raw mac and cheese (way better than anything out of a blue box)

rawmacandcheese

Cheezy pate watered down with some lemon juice and tossed with spiralized squash

and a simple salad

I met Jeni for legs at the gym, and had the recovery snack of a cookie.

cookie

Vegan, gluten-free, pure foodgasms.

Not the best choice of protein/carbs/fat for after a workout, but I loved every glorious bite 😀

I took a nap and tried to sleep the headache off, canceled my classes, then went to train funny quotes lady. I can always count on her (or any of my awesome clients) to put a smile on my face 😉

Dinner was a handful of Mary’s Crack, with the chili that Tinkerbell brought me on Monday.

chili

Sooooo good. Nice and SPICY too- I lurve 😀

I’m off to put jammies on and pray to the running and yoga gods that I can wear my contacts tomorrow and resume my life 😀 We shall see….

Have a wonderful night <3

xoxo,

G$

Today’s tip: Do what you feel, always. If you feel like taking a day off, really want a cookie, need to stop and take some time for yourself, want an enormous serving of veggies, DO IT. Listening to your body is so important and will help to keep you on the healthy path in the long run. Not taking days off could lead to injury and more days off later on, a forbidden cookie could lead to an empty bag of cookies, a frantic and stressed mind could set one up for a host of health problems, and you know how I feel about veggies- I can’t get enough! ;)  Listen to yourself and roll how you wanna roll 🙂

I completely agree with you, listen to your body. If you deprive yourself you’re not going to be very happy. Just make sure to listen to your body when it wants nutrition too, haha. That’s sometimes the hard part.

The chili just inspired me to make stew tomorrow. Or chili. I better get those beans soaking, I never remember to do that!

I hate getting eye headaches. 🙁 My eyes are so sensitive so I tend to get them alot with my glasses. Just think – you’re almost glasses-free!!!

  3. Hannah on December 16, 2009 at 9:47 pm

I hope you are feeling better! I’d wait though another day-what if you put the contacts in too early and your eyes hadn’t healed fully? Not like that would definitely happen though, but just in case.

    That cookie looks frigging amazing!!

Speaking of spiralized squash-what kind of spiralizer do you have? I just ordered the Paderno/World Cuisine one on amazon and I’m hoping that it can spiral stuff like squash and other root veggies….I’m dying to use it!

Hey Gina, I love hearing how excited you are to train your clients. I have a question for you about being a trainer around the holidays: I have an amazing PT and I want to get him a gift for Christmas. I was thinking a Visa giftcard… I figured I shouldn’t give him cookies. 😛
As a trainer, would you be cool with that sort of gift? Or have you ever received anything really cool from a client? Thanks!

      hey pam,
i think thats a great idea! i recently got that yoga dvd and a gift card to bizzle (starbucks) from one of my clients- it was a great gift. you also can never go wrong with itunes gift cards 😀

ah i can relate all too well with the eye headaches thing! I got some defective contacts and had headaches from them until i figured out what the heck was going on! luckily the company sent me replacements asap.

sorry you had to deal with that 🙁 no fun.

Aw, sorry the gafas are giving you a headache! I hope your eyes feel better in the morning.
That mac and cheese sounds good! I would have never even began to think of that creation.

    Hi Gina,

Is there a recipe for raw mac and cheese? that looks delicious but I couldn’t find it!

    Thanks,

    Lisa

Raw mac and cheese… hmm. I’m tempted to try. I do love the cooked version 🙂

Hope your eyes feel better soon!

Hey hey, I LOVE your blog, I read it all the time. It has helped me in so many ways! Thanks a million times over.
I was wondering if you have to be certified to instruct fitness classes, such as Step Classes, Pilates, Yoga, or any Aerobics class. How does one go about getting into teaching one? You have inspired me to go out and become a certified personal trainer 🙂

    • Fitnessista on December 16, 2009 at 10:54 pm

      hey kristine,
yes you have to be certified to teach aerobics- i have AFAA group fitness certification, which gives me the ability to teach any classes i would like and is widely accepted. check out their website for a certification workshop in your area: http://www.afaa.com
please let me know if you need any help!

I hope your eyes feel better! Just a little sorta-medical advice! I was an optician for about 5 years and worked with optometrists and ophthalmologists. Unfortunately, most of the time, those 5 days are pretty necessary without contacts for safety reasons. If they still hurt, then leave them out just to be sure it’s all gone!

    Have a great night!

  13. Kristine on December 17, 2009 at 4:19 am

Thanks so much, I checked out the website 🙂
You don’t HAVE to go to college to be a personal trainer, or group fitness instructor right? It’s not an absolute must is it? Were there any informational books you read that helped you out? Sorry for so many questions, hope all is well!
    Take care.

    Hi Gina,

I already tweeted you this (and I’m also the kiwi pest that emailed you about Tapioca Starch) but now I just have to make my very first comment on your blog.

Get Lasik. I struggled with contacts for years and years, avoiding Lasik because I was too scared. Then 18 months ago, I just got brave and did it. My eyes were very bad, therefore I actually had to have Lasik twice – I still had a little bit of astigmatism after the first time. Honestly it’s no big deal, they even give you a little pill to make it all seem like a party. Of course, my eye nurse, Ernest, was also ridiculously good looking (or, maybe that was the valium googles + natural blur?). Do it hon, you won’t regret it. NASA use it for their astronauts, that’s got to count for something.

Gina, thanks so much for your note: it was exactly what I needed to hear right now as I drink my coffee and debate whether to go to work or not. I can tell I’m getting sick and this made me feel so much less guilty about embracing my instinct to find a way to work from home today. It’s such simple advice but so many of us get pressured into ignoring what our bodies are trying to tell us….Learning to listen to those internal signals is such a joyful and life-affirming — not to mention healthy — process and you encapsulate that perfectly. So thanks again 🙂

i love your tip of the day. Sometimes we all have those days we need a cookie or a day to just lay on the coach and watch tv. Hope your eyes feel better!

  17. Lily @ Lily's Health Pad on December 17, 2009 at 7:19 am

I get headache if I waer my glasses too much too. I guess it’s the weight on your face that you aren’t used to? It’s a bummer.

  18. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on December 17, 2009 at 7:39 am

Hope you feel better, it took me a while to get used to wearing my glasses ALL the time. I feel your pain!

haha the link to the cheezy pate is from my birthday wooo hoo. anyways thats insignificant to anything 🙂

i had a thing with my eyes one time where i couldn’t wear my contacts for 2 weeks. it was the WORST two weeks of my life. i would wear my glasses to the gym and they would fall off my face while i was doing cardio and then when i took them off i couldn’t read the magazine or see the tv or anything. at 7 days i cheated and put them back in haha.

  20. CaSaundra on December 17, 2009 at 9:09 am

My glasses always give me a major headache too–maybe because I don’t wear them NEARLY as much as I should :o)

  21. Caroline on December 17, 2009 at 10:01 am

Oh bless you, I just read yesterday’s tip and it’s just the reminder I need that honoring my body is much better than pushing it too far. Training for a half marathon but brand new puppy has been keeping me up at night, I think that tempo run is definitely being skipped in favor of a nap! I can’t seem to just give myself permission to take skip a planned run, I always worry that its just laziness.

  22. Brigid on December 17, 2009 at 10:48 am

My glasses tend to give me a headache, too. I’m a migraine sufferer, so I can’t wear them too many days in a row without suffering. Plus, I just see better with my contacts. I hope your eyes heal soon!

  23. Kristin on December 17, 2009 at 11:26 am

Thanks for your tips on doing what you feel. This morning I woke up at 4am because I kept dreaming that I had to get up at 5:30am to hit a group strength class and I just didn’t want to! I was so tired and my back has been hurting. So I reset the alarm and slept all the way until 6:30. It felt good! And I don’t feel guilty, in the past I would have.

    Thanks!

p.s. I had to wear glasses to teach spinning for awhile and it drove me nuts! I had to switch to hard contacts which was kind of a pain but definitely makes working out easier!

  24. Amanda on December 17, 2009 at 11:39 am

Thanks SO much for this tip today – I called yesterday a rest day as my boyfriend has off from work Wednesdays (usually works til about 9pm). We went out to dinner – and maybe overdid it a little – and then crashed and watched a movie. It was seriously one of the best nights I’ve had in a while, but woke up with a little bit of guilt regarding lack of exercise and excess of food … but not worth it, it was a great night!!!

  25. Lacy on December 17, 2009 at 12:03 pm

Hey Gena!! Can you please post the recipe for your raw mac & cheese? I have been craving something like this!!

    Thank you 🙂

    • Fitnessista on December 17, 2009 at 12:26 pm

hey lacy, just click on the link under the picture 😀 let me know what you think!

  26. Margaret on December 17, 2009 at 1:59 pm

Oh how i hate glasses headaches, i get them whenever i put away glasses for too long and just rely on contacts. Last time it took me a week to get used to wearing glasses without headache and this awful “i think i need to puke” feeling. Stay strong girl! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on December 17, 2009 at 2:01 pm

thank you, good to know i’m not the only one who goes crazy w them!

  27. Kelly B. on December 17, 2009 at 2:36 pm

I loved your tip of the day! SO true!! Listening to one’s body is probably the hardest thing for people to do! The funny thing is that our bodies “talk” to us all day long and we have gotten so used to ignoring it that when we really stop and listen…whoa…it can be pretty cool!

    • Fitnessista on December 17, 2009 at 2:52 pm

      totally agree 😀

  28. Heather @ The Joyful Kitchen on December 17, 2009 at 6:51 pm

My glasses always give me a headache too. I think it’s just that they sit right behind my ears, and the slightest pressure there makes my head hurt. Glad you were able to listen to your body though!

  29. Jenna on December 19, 2009 at 10:04 am

    mac and cheese looks delish!
