“O” my goodness

Hi friends 😀 How are you? Thank you SO much for the wonderful feedback on the first week of Summer Shape Up 2011! I had a blasty putting it together and hope you enjoy the workouts and the results as much as I enjoyed creating it 🙂

Last night, we got ready to eat at our favorite Vegas spot.

We dined at Mesa Grill, and it was just as incredible as last time <3

mesa

Mesa Grill is the brainchild of my celebrity cheffer crush, Bobby Flay (also referred to as B. Flizzle) and serves Bobby Flay-ish food: Southwestern with a New York spin. The interior of the restaurant is what I’d like to call cowboy chic and is located in Caesar’s Palace 🙂

Drinks for two:

and a lovely basket of bread.

(We shared the blue corn muffin)

To start, we ordered the Goat Cheese Queso Fundido. I dream about this queso, and have also made it at home. Creamy goat cheese, chilies, olive oil and blue corn chips.

cheese

For my entree, I chose the Sophie’s Chopped Salad (romaine, kidney beans, chickpeas, tomatoes, tortilla chips)

salad

+ a side of roasted carrots and butternut squash. They were cooked with spinach and shallots, so the flavor was outta control.

The Pilot ordered the lamb, which was seasoned with orange zest and came with the most savory tamale I’ve ever tasted.

He also ordered a glass of bourbon that’s been around longer than he has 😉

Dessert was banana cream pie, with hazelnut brittle, Frangelico-infused whipped cream and a hazelnut wafer on top.

dessert

As much as I wanted to love it, it wasn’t mind-blowing. I’m just a chocolate girl, that’s all 😉 The rest of the meal more than made up for it, though.

After some shenanigans

pathetic attempts at gambling (I lost $10 on slot machines and called it good.. I like to have things to show for it if I’m going to waste dollars)

we went to see “O”.

o

“O” is a Cirque Du Soliel show and the stage turns into a lake, so much of it is water-based, with acrobatics, synchronized swimmers and a trippy story line that I’ll never understand, per CDS standards 🙂

The verdict: incredible. Thank you so much to those of you who recommended it- we LOVED it!

Here’s a video of the intro I found on YouTube:

So crazy.

We’re off to enjoy our last night here, but I’ll see ya in the morning!

xoxo

Something to talk about: What’s the best live show you’ve ever seen? I’ve been obsessed with shows since I was little, but with everything I’ve seen, Wicked is still #1 🙂

  2. Allison on June 7, 2011 at 5:52 am

I have always wanted to see a Cirque de Soleil show!! They look pretty incredible!

I love Broadway and i was raised on Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals:) I loved Wicked but i know that if i ever got to see Les Miserables i would love that more!! My sister was a theater major in college and now works at a theater so we always always talk about shows and she will send me soundtracks to new musicals:)

Only live show I saw was Cats on Broadway. My parents live outside of Vegas, so I to see a show there sometime

Phantom of the Opera, hands down! I’ve been obsessed with Phantom since I was a little kid (it helped that the main character had my name lol) and I’ve seen it live three times. Love it!! 🙂

That looks like such a fun night!! I saw Cirque du Soleil Allegria when I was maybe 6 or 7? And I was OBSESSED with it! Really neat shows. I think Wicked might be my all time fave too though!

I would love to eat my way through Vegas – this place looks amazing! My favorite live show was definitely Les Miserables.

  7. Amy on June 7, 2011 at 8:55 am

Rent is hands down my absolute favorite. I’ve seen it 5 times.

    Wicked is #2 though! 🙂

YUM. I ate at Mesa Grill here in NYC for restaurant week and LOVED it, but need to go back to get that goat cheese dip off the regular menu!!! That dessert would be my dream, I love all things banana and hazelnut. You inspired me to get back there!

I have eaten at Mesa grill in NYC. It is so yummy!!! So glad you guys are enjoying your trip! I am living vicariously through you as I sit at my desk at work. 😉

Wicked is pretty much top of my list but I’ll never forget Starlight Express from when i was little. Oh and Phantom of the Opera 🙂

  11. Hannah on June 7, 2011 at 9:53 am

I love Cirque Du Soliel! I would have to say that In the the Heights is my favorite broadway show I’ve seen live. If you’re ever in NYC, you should definitely see it!

Question regarding the Summer Shape Up… you mention doing yoga once a week, but would it be ok to sub that for pilates? Or do you think sticking with Yoga is better? I can only make the pilates class my gym offers…

PS: Made your beet & bean burgers this past weekend and they’re awesome!

    • Fitnessista on June 7, 2011 at 11:15 am

      totally fine!
glad you liked the burgers 🙂

The manfriend took me to see a Cirque show a couple of years ago and I LOVED it! Other than that, I’d say my favorite show was maybe Les Mis on Broadway.

Have fun on your last day in Vegas!

  13. Katie B. on June 7, 2011 at 10:01 am

    that dinner looks epic 🙂
I haven’t seen a whole lot live, but blue man group is my fav 🙂

  14. Marissa on June 7, 2011 at 10:15 am

Mmm, that bread looks delicious… I’ve always wanted to see Cirque de Soleil! A water-based show would be awesome to see. Can I count the Dixie Stampede as my favorite show? We used to go there whenever we went to Myrtle Beach or Orlando–I’m so sad they changed it!

  15. Natasha on June 7, 2011 at 10:21 am

Yay! I’m happy you decided to experience O!!

  16. RhodeyGirl on June 7, 2011 at 10:35 am

Is it weird and stalkerish that as soon as you mentioned your favorite Vegas spot I knew you were going to say Mesa Grill?

    HA!

    • Fitnessista on June 7, 2011 at 11:12 am

haha not stalkerish at all! just that you know me 🙂

  17. Amanda (Eating Up) on June 7, 2011 at 10:42 am

That’s a hard one! Probably my first Broadway show when I was 10. It was Footloose (which is nothing but fun), but I was so impressed by the performances!

  18. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on June 7, 2011 at 10:53 am

Hmm, Scoop NYC, Mesa Grill, Cirque du Soleil…it would seem that your favorite things about Vegas are in fact New York transplants! Ok, maybe not CDS exactly, but we do have Zarkana. I’m just sayin’, though! Surely it’s about time the Pilot enjoyed another NYC trip. <– requisite pestering from NYC resident 😉

    • Fitnessista on June 7, 2011 at 11:11 am

      i couldn’t agree more 🙂

  19. skinnyrunner on June 7, 2011 at 10:57 am

ive been to mesa grill too and that queso is soooo good!

  20. Carrie on June 7, 2011 at 11:26 am

I loved O too, but where I was sitting, they kept blasting the air conditioning to combat the heat coming off the pool so I was freezing!

  21. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on June 7, 2011 at 12:22 pm

Mesa looks amazing! Bobby Flay is my Food Network crush too. 😉

  22. Gina (Yogattude) on June 7, 2011 at 12:50 pm

I saw Wicked twice and it is also my favorite show…I could see it over and over!

  23. Julie S. on June 7, 2011 at 3:42 pm

I saw “O” when I was in Vegas & loved it, too. I think “Hairspray” was my fave live show, but there are so many that were a close 2nd – “Mamma Mia”, “Annie”, “Wicked”, “Jersey Boys”, “Rock of Ages”…

  24. Emily on June 8, 2011 at 12:38 am

WICKED on Broadway!!! AHHHH so good!!! And Cirque du Soleil “Love”

  25. Krista on June 10, 2011 at 11:56 am

Your fashion post about your shoes directed me back here and reminded me — the first time I read this post I stared at that first pic of you forever thinking… uhhhh, Is it the dress? is it the belt placement? or was this pic taken with a post Mesa Grill food baby? Now I know I was half right. It is a baby!
You certainly don’t look pregnant at all and of course, you still look fantastic, but your waist line/stomach immediately caught my eye because something didn’t look like you normally do in pics!
