O Rosemary Tree

Morning friends!

tree

The rosemary tree!

Best Christmas tree everrrrrr Winking smile It may be bald before this weekend, though.

What are you up to this week?? Are you traveling, or staying local?

We’re going to chill here in T-town. I’m really looking forward to holiday movies and vegan cinnamon rolls Smile

For dinner last night, we had some homemade black bean burgers:

burgers

I based them off Emily’s recipe and used carrot, onion, 2 cans of black beans (one blended, one whole), cinnamon, cumin, sea salt, pepper, garlic and Bob’s Red Mill oats

With b-nut squash fries, salad and avocado:

burger

Amazing.

After dinner, I came back to the casa, crashed out and was SO STOKED to make some pre-workout snack in the new kitch.

bfast

The little things in life, eh?

A juice with a head/stalk/whatever of romaine, a tiny apple and some carrots

juice

+ brown rice toast and almond butter

toast

After I gym it up, I’ll make the rest of b-fast… it will definitely be including this:

cheese

Open-mouthed smile

I’m off to get my schweat on and get started on the day’s to-dos, but I’ll see ya later today!

xoxo,

G

Something to talk about: What’s your winter workout strategy? Do you work out more indoors or take it outside and brave the cold? What’s your winter workout schedule like?

LOVE the rosemary tree! we have some friends with one and it smells RIDICULOUSLY good! as for working out, i’m really OK with indoor and outdoor…as long as it’s not dark out it’s for me!

  2. brittney on December 20, 2010 at 10:38 am

You are gonna LOVE that brie. Try it with jam. YUM.

  3. Heather (Perspective Is Everything) on December 20, 2010 at 10:38 am

those black bean burgers look great!
i’m completely about the indoor workouts….even though it doesn’t get uber cold here.
love to do circuits with a weighted exercise belt….jumping jacks, mt.climbers, burpees, running the stairs, etc.

  4. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on December 20, 2010 at 10:39 am

I want one of those rosemary trees! My winter workouts are mostly outdoors, if it is 30 or above I’ll go for a short run occasionally outside.

  5. Jess on December 20, 2010 at 10:40 am

My grandma got me a rosemary tree a few weeks ago! Unfortunately it’s not looking to happy right about now..we did get a couple uses out of it though! It smelled sooooo good once we first got it.

As for winter workouts, I mainly stick to the treadmill, elliptical and classes at my gym. I live in Western NY so running outside is suuuper hard with all the snow and ice-not to mention freezing cold windchills!

  6. allison @ livingoneday on December 20, 2010 at 10:42 am

i love black bean burgers but i havent made them since the summer! need to get back on that. we’re spending christmas eve with the extended fam, and christmas day at home <3

  7. Katie on December 20, 2010 at 10:44 am

My family and I are actually going to Scottsdale, Arizona this year for Christmas! We’re staying at a resort and doing a lot of hiking, shopping, eating, and the boys will golf and the girls will go to the spa. No gifts this year, just the memories of the trip! 🙂

My winter workout schedule varies depending on the weather. If it’s a sunny winter day, I love going for a long walk outside all bundled up. I definitely hit up Bikram yoga more as the hot room feels amazing! I also put a heater on at home and do Ashtanga yoga in the mornings. Yoga in the winter feels amazing!

  8. Kristen @ That Hoosier Girl on December 20, 2010 at 10:44 am

I LOVE that rosemary tree! I want one!

My winter workout’s are definitely indoors! I’m so clumsy, it’s all I can do to stay up on my two feet without wiping out on the ice while walking the puppers.

  9. Jackie @ Baking Charms on December 20, 2010 at 10:47 am

winter workouts = hot yoga! gots to keep warm 🙂

    • BIOCHEMISTA on December 20, 2010 at 10:53 am

I agree! Below zero weather + Bikram = Cold isn’t so bad 😉

  10. BIOCHEMISTA on December 20, 2010 at 10:52 am

I take more cardio classes at my gym when I can’t run outside (I haaaaate machines). Lately I’ve been a baby in the winter but in college (when I lived in Boston) I ran all winter outside as long as it wasn’t icy and >32F.

  11. Felicia (A taste of Health with Balance) on December 20, 2010 at 11:01 am

i’ll say it again : best.bre.ever. hehe hope you enjoy 🙂 ive been working out inside, in my basement.. so convenient, especially when the temperature outside says 5 degrees !

  12. Christin@purplebirdblog on December 20, 2010 at 11:22 am

I looooove the rosemary tree complete with little cardinal!! Too cute! 🙂 I am definitely not brave enough to work out in the cold, but it will be 74 degrees here today so I’m not too worried!

  13. grocery goddess jen on December 20, 2010 at 11:24 am

Ooh, goat milk brie, that looks delish!

My workout strategy this winter is I’m doing strength training three days a week and one or two days a week of HIIT, all indoors! Normally I join the gym in the winter, but am changing it up this year. I HATE the cold and do not want to go outside until April 🙂

  14. Katie on December 20, 2010 at 11:44 am

    Awwwwwww Love the rosemary tree!!

Vegan cinnamon rolls sound amazing! Yum! I am excited for the holidays! We are staying put here, just me, my fiance, and son! We will be having fun playing games, watching xmas movies, plaaying rockband on Wii ( ummm yeah we have had it for over a year and never opened it! ) and going to the movies on Christmas Day to see Gullivers Travels starring Jack Black! Happy Holidays to you and your family! So glad you are with them for the holidays!

  15. Mimi on December 20, 2010 at 11:53 am

Goat milk brie? SWOON! That sounds ah-mah-zing.

  16. Shanna, like Banana on December 20, 2010 at 12:18 pm

I would totally work out in the cold..in fact I’d relish it. BUT in the winter in Cali, we don’t get cold, we get wet and working out in the rain is not much fun IMO.

  17. Allison @ PickEatingRD on December 20, 2010 at 12:18 pm

I refuse to brave the cold. Chicago gets freeezzzzinggg and I am not a fan! My long runs get a little shorter in the winter because I get bored of the treadmil so quickly.

  18. Katherine: Unemployed on December 20, 2010 at 12:18 pm

That tree is so great! I love the smell of rosemary!

  19. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on December 20, 2010 at 12:22 pm

Now that I’m down in AZ im loving running outside. But back in Oregon I’ve kept myself in the gym. It’s a shame because I get so much of a better work out outside. I may just get some good outdoor running gear (aka a headband to cover my ears and gloves) so I can run outside.

  20. mi-an dela cruz on December 20, 2010 at 12:31 pm

winter work outs include lots of power and hot yogas!! + indoor bike.
it’s been rainy here in cali so not fun to run outside!
staying here in cali for the holidays too…soo excited!!! can’t wait for my 3 yo niece to sing xmas songs for us! 🙂

  21. Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) on December 20, 2010 at 12:35 pm

Love the rosemary tree! That’s the exact thing I was thinking of from TJs based on the comment i left you last nite…love those lil trees! If you like basil, my Tj’s basil tree is a little lifesaver, too 🙂

The burgers, have seen those on Emily’s blog. And the way you cut your squash fries makes me want to get busy sawing open a few butternut squash. I always worry I am going to take off my fingers when I hack into those…haha!

Winter workouts…just doing anything is good enough. It’s cold, it’s the holidays, gym, yoga, light cardio, cleaning the house as my workout, it all works 🙂

  22. nicole on December 20, 2010 at 12:41 pm

Those black bean burgers look pretty good, I’m definitely going to check out the recipe. As for traveling plans, I’m headed a bit south to Palm Springs tomorrow. I usually don’t mind working out outside (running), but it’s been raining for the last week now. I might actually brave the rain today, but it’s a tough call because the streets are flooded.

  23. Krystina (Basil & Wine) on December 20, 2010 at 12:43 pm

My workouts have changed A LOT. All I basically have been doing is yoga every day.

  24. Namaste Gurl on December 20, 2010 at 1:03 pm

You totally reminded me I need to make me some black bean burgers and fries– sweet potato ones 🙂 I’ve got TONS of sweet potatoes, black beans and avocado on hand!

    Enjoy your day, sweet girl!

  25. Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun on December 20, 2010 at 1:12 pm

We got a rosemary tree last year and it was such a fabulous little gift.

  26. Allison @ Food For Healing on December 20, 2010 at 1:18 pm

Ooo Christmas, i’m getting excited! just gotta get through this week of work! We’re not travelling far, the furthest is only about a 2 hour drive so thats not bad.
I dont have winter workouts haha. I’m going to try get my butt in gear with dvd workouts (30DS, NMTZ, and zumba) I can’t go outside to workout, the -25C/-5F temps don’t help with that, i can’t brave it!

  27. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on December 20, 2010 at 1:22 pm

My winter workout strategy is alllll indoors. I’m a fair-weather workout sort of girl and it is far too cold here to be outside! Your rosemary tree is so cute 🙂

  28. Ann @ Day By Day on December 20, 2010 at 1:28 pm

We just got a rosemary tree at Whole Foods last week! My Mom just likes how it looks, but I’ve actually been using the rosemary, so she always tells me to pluck it evenly haha. And your black bean burgers and squash look delicious. I love how the squash is cut! I was at Trader Joe’s this weekend and am kicking myself for missing that goat milk brie. Sounds to die for!

  29. Kim on December 20, 2010 at 1:33 pm

lol, your rosemary tree is too cute! And it puts mine to shame, all I have to decorate it is a red bow!

  30. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on December 20, 2010 at 1:39 pm

I bet that rosemary tree smells amazing. It’s super cute, too!

  31. Dee on December 20, 2010 at 1:40 pm

Cute tree! Have fun getting your sweat on! 🙂

  32. Clare @ Fitting It All In on December 20, 2010 at 1:49 pm

Staying home in STL for Christmas! In the winter I move my runs inside — more because of icy sidewalks than cold weather! Oh and because I don’t like running in the dark.

  33. Kim @ girlevolving on December 20, 2010 at 2:04 pm

I go indoors in the winter – it’s too icy and snowy and bitter cold/windy here (northern Indiana)… and maybe I’m a baby. But December through Feb or March I’m on the treadmill or doing spin classes. I still run about the same mileage, but I do way more interval workouts on the treadmill to stay entertained.

  34. Katie~RunfortheBikini on December 20, 2010 at 2:09 pm

I love black bean burgers, but I never make them myself. I have to try this recipe! And need to make b-nut squash fries, I’ve only made sweet potato ones. 2011 is going to be the year of me learning how to cook, and healthy at that 😀

  35. Jess@atasteofconfidence on December 20, 2010 at 2:31 pm

I definitely work out more at home- or else I won’t work out at all:) haha

  36. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on December 20, 2010 at 2:40 pm

    I love the rosemary tree!!

  37. Sana on December 20, 2010 at 3:20 pm

Yeah that tree is not going to last! I hope you enjoy this holiday season with all your loved ones!

  38. Caree @ Fit-Mama! on December 20, 2010 at 3:26 pm

those black bean burgers and b-nut fries look amazing!!!

  39. Kristina on December 20, 2010 at 3:28 pm

Mmm…black bean burger-I really need to start making veggie burgers again:)
I’d have to say living in Buffalo I will not be braving the outdoor activites-i’m a gym rat allllll winter long;)

  40. Amanda on December 20, 2010 at 3:37 pm

The rosemary tree is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! I bet it smells great too : )

I am definitely a gym rat in the winter, Buffalo is pretty cold and this year we started winter off with a real bang! Usually it doesn’t get this cold until January/February! Brrrrr!

  41. Dynamics on December 20, 2010 at 3:56 pm

Our local Mall has a walking program. You see mainly old people and people using walkers. When it rains that is where I go if I need to get out and walk. They also have two staircases. If you do not get sidetracked from window shopping you can get in about 2-4 miles.

  42. The Pilot on December 20, 2010 at 6:46 pm

Hey, I like your Rosemary Tree, babe. The little cardinal in there reminds me of Ruby 🙂

    • Fitnessista on December 20, 2010 at 10:04 pm

ruby! i miss her. she probably misses us feeding her, too 🙂
      oh, and i miss YOU

  43. Dee on December 20, 2010 at 6:56 pm

I love cold weather workouts. My internal cooling system must be broken, because I get so uncomfortably hot when I run. The winter is awesome because it’s the only time of year I don’t overheat!

  44. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on December 20, 2010 at 7:00 pm

My winter workouts definitely take place indoors 99% of the time. I hate the cold. 😛 Although I did try running out in the snow a few weeks ago and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be!

  45. Nicci (NiftyEats) on December 20, 2010 at 10:08 pm

Your tiny rosemary tree is too cute.
