Okie, I heart Thee

Hi guys! HAPPY SUNDAY! Hope you’re all having an amazing day 😀 I love it here.

We drove and drove and drove….

002

And then I was blessed with a beautiful gift.

It’s called “civilization”

003

At first I was a little apprehensive because the city looks very industrial as you drive into it. Before I knew it, I was seeing all of my favorite restaurants and shops (that we don’t have in Valdizzy) and I was beyond stoked.

We checked into the hotel –I’m switching rooms in a couple of minutes because mine is stinky, haha- and then decided to check out the town.

We were to Bricktown, which I guess is one of the good places to go out in Okie. There are horse-drawn carriages, canal boat tours, local restaurants, and a host of bars and clubs.

It looks mellow on the outside….

004

But it’s wild on the inside:

007

We were to a bar called American Pub and it was a serious blasty. They had giant flat screens displaying messages that you could text (like “JJ, the cougar is to your left”) and two dancing DJs on the stage that wore crazy wigs and kept everyone riled up. So. Much. Fun.

I had the standard bar drink: Bloody Mary

005

And got a little crunk on the dance floor with the pilot 😀 Since I didn’t hit the gym yesterday, I think it was an excellent cardio replacement 😉

We chilled and danced until about 2am, and decided we were snacky.

Frijoles of shame

008

I haven’t had Taco Bell in maybe 5 or 6 years and broke the dry spell last night. Google kindly informed me that the refried beans were vegan, so I ordered a side with no cheese and topped it with 3 packs of fire sauce. If that’s not a classy snack, I don’t know what is.  Haha

The pilot and I are having a pretty relaxing day –it’s our last day together for a MONTH!- and we’re about to switch hotel rooms and then head up to see the 105degrees goodness 😀

Expect lots of awesome pics next time I see you, and tomorrow: an exciting bit of news about something else I’ll be doing while here in Okie

Have a great day <3

Much love,

G

21 and older bloggies: What’s your bar drink of choice? If I can’t have vino, I always opt for the bloody mary –so savory and you get a serving of veggies 😉

For bloggies under 21: What’s your favorite virgin drink?? I used to loooove getting alcohol-free Pina Coladas

You should try “Drinkz” bar in Bricktown. Went there for my bachlorette party – it’s owned by the owners of JJ Bridal (which is the premier OKC bridal shop).

If I’m at a loud un-klassy bar, I’ll usually take it back to my college roots and order Miller Lite or Blue Moon. I also love strong margaritas on the rocks. But, you know wine is my love!

Can’t wait to see your exciting news! Have fun! 😀

  3. Spotty Prep on September 6, 2009 at 4:08 pm

A gin and tonic for me, please! When I was little I used to love getting Shirley Temples 🙂 Glad you’re liking your new city!

  4. Marina on September 6, 2009 at 4:09 pm

I’m under 21, but I’m allowed to drink in my country 🙂 I love daiquiri! My boyfriend makes the perfect daiquiri, so when I’m craving one, I get it soon 🙂

  5. Shari B. on September 6, 2009 at 4:13 pm

So happy to see that you and the pilot are having a good time before your month apart. I feel for ya! I know you two have experienced time apart before with his deployments, but still it must be rough! I leave soon for a 12 day trip and I’ve never been apart from my hubster that long. I’m already a little sad!

I have two fave bar drinks (depending on the type of bar!) First choice is a pineapple mojito! mmmm sugar cane….! Second choice is Malibu Rum w/ diet coke.

Oh the suspense…! Can’t wait to hear the news!

  6. Danielle on September 6, 2009 at 4:17 pm

I love beer. The darker and richer, the better. I also can’t wait for Sam Adam’s Oktoberfest to come out this fall!

  7. Jenny on September 6, 2009 at 4:20 pm

eyyy I feel ya on the TB lovin.. the cinnamon twists? j’adore.

glad you and the pilot had a fun night out gettin yo’ groove thaaang on 🙂

  8. Patricia on September 6, 2009 at 4:40 pm

MOJITOS!! I usually have mine made with splenda ( which I’m trying to give up). I think this is the first comment I’ve left you, but I’ve been reading for a while. Good luck with your adventure!

  9. Rachel on September 6, 2009 at 4:41 pm

Henrick’s gin & tonic with cucumber instead of the lime! A MUST try for any gin & tonic drinker out there. An oh-so-refreshing summertime drink especially. Hope you and the pilot have a great day together!!

  10. Kathleen on September 6, 2009 at 4:42 pm

Lol…I love Manhattans or a personal favorite that I don’t do often (because the next day isn’t too pretty) called a Purple Rain. It has 1.5oz vodka, 1.5oz white rum, 1.5oz white tequila, 1.5oz gin, 1.5 oz Cointreau, 1.5oz sweet and sour mix all mixed together and 1.5oz Chambord floating on top….soooo good, and lethal!

  11. Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) on September 6, 2009 at 4:44 pm

I’m not 21 so when I’m home, I love Shirley Temples or Virgin Pina Coladas!
But when I’m in Canada visiting my bf, my fave drink is Amaretto Sours… but I LOVE a good dark beer too =)

  12. Jennie {in Wonderland} on September 6, 2009 at 4:44 pm

Gin & diet tonic with lots of lime… sooo delicious and refreshing.

When I was 19? Probably rum and coke. Yuck!!

  13. Nicci@NiftyEats on September 6, 2009 at 4:46 pm

I like to have gin and diet cranberry juice! or a cosmo is always nice too.

  14. Haleigh on September 6, 2009 at 4:51 pm

I am glad to hear that you are liking my home state. Bricktown is pretty cool. I am bias though and think that Tulsa is much better than OKC 😉 OKC is so darn flat!!!

  15. Sally on September 6, 2009 at 4:54 pm

I’ve always been a Vodka Soda (with a lime!) kinda girl. It looks like ya’ll are having a great time. Good luck with your first day of “culinary deployment!”

  16. Sana on September 6, 2009 at 4:59 pm

strawberry daiquiris! heheh <3 taco bell!

  17. VeggieGirl on September 6, 2009 at 5:10 pm

    Such gorgeous skies!!

You better live it up on your last night with The Pilot tonight!!

  18. K on September 6, 2009 at 5:48 pm

How fun!! The flat screens would bring some serious shenanies! That’s not classy, it’s klassy 😉

My drinks: Vino (I’m a white girl though), pineapple juice and malibu, & Blue Moons. I’ve never had a bloody Mary though!

  19. carolinebee on September 6, 2009 at 5:54 pm

HAHA LOVE IT!! I think if you titled this post, “Fitnessista eats Taco Bell”, you would get like- a bajillion hits 😀 Glad u guys had fun!

  20. Rebecca Kenefic on September 6, 2009 at 6:03 pm

    HAPPILY over 21 🙂

and it has to be a red wine, sulfite free if possible(ya right in a bar)
and if im feeling a little trashy, pomigranite juice, vodka and a little lime on the side

    delish 😉

hope u have fun girl, looking forward to ur awesome adventure postings at school!!! im going raw for a week(entirely, starting tuesday) just to see how it goes, we shall see! wish me luck

  21. Tayor on September 6, 2009 at 6:08 pm

Sounds like you guys are having a great time! Dancing is one of my favorite ways to exercise; I usually forget that it’s exercise because I am having such a great time. 🙂
I think my favorite virgin drink would have to be a frosty strawberry daiquiri.

  22. lizzy on September 6, 2009 at 6:15 pm

Rum+Coke=YUM! hope your having a great last day with the hub 🙁 Time will fly by and you will be re-united before you know it!! xo!

  23. Melissa S. on September 6, 2009 at 6:34 pm

vodka diet soda all the wayyyyyy…

  24. Jenna on September 6, 2009 at 6:39 pm

Dancing DEFINITELY counts as your cardio girl 🙂

I am a vino girl too. But I also love me some good beer- one of my favorites is a Fat Tire.

I used to be a shot or vodka diet girl, but now I can barely stand hard liquor, unless I have had a few. However, I can stomach a good Bloody Mary if it is SPICY!

    Have a fabulous evening dear!

  25. Lisa on September 6, 2009 at 7:03 pm

I usually stick with wine or kettle one and soda with a lime. That way its not too sweet and hopefully minimizes any next day headaches!

  26. Lizzy on September 6, 2009 at 7:17 pm

awww hope u and the pilot are enjoying yourself! savor the moments!!!!

my fav drink of choice is always some sort of light beer, but i do enjoy vodka and cran at times too!!! not much of an alcohol girl, call me a beer girl! hahaha

  27. Carrie on September 6, 2009 at 7:37 pm

I will have a Kettle One rocks with club soda, easy lime. 2 please… 🙂

Taco Bell sin of choice = nachos belle grande no meat.

Have fun Gina !!!!!!!! OK sounds like a blast… looking forward to the school entries !!

  28. angieinatlanta on September 6, 2009 at 7:51 pm

I LOVE your Taco Bell snack ’cause I’m classy like that as well after a few drinks! Ain’t no shame!

My drink of choice is either a rum and Diet Coke or Amaretto sour!

  29. Tyler on September 6, 2009 at 8:01 pm

Since you are in the Mid West, you should try a Boulevard Wheat with a slice of orange. It’s KCMO’s finest beer and it’s delish!

  30. Deirdre on September 6, 2009 at 8:16 pm

I like beer, but if I’m trying to get crunk/ want to dance I love sugar free red bull and vodka or vodka tonics!

  31. Melissa on September 6, 2009 at 8:22 pm

I’m boring…I always order wine. If I want to get crazy, I’ll have a tequila shot or two. 🙂

  32. Leianna on September 6, 2009 at 8:31 pm

Pina Coladas are my favorite! Looks like a great city to explore!

  33. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on September 6, 2009 at 9:13 pm

Glad you made it! Sucks about the stinky room…smoke? Blech! if it was that kinda stinky.

Getting crunk on the dance flo definitely better than cardio at the gym, no doubt!

My fave drink…god I used to be an alkey. Well not fully, but darn close 🙂 Kettle or Gray Goose on the rocks, splash of 7, maraschino cherries by the handful. Mai Tais are always easy in a bar b/c who can mess up rum and juice and there is guaranteed to be an abundance of cheap rum in any dive bar in the world. When I am out of the US and drink, I usually drink rum b/c it’s cheaper and easier to come by than non-hangover inducing vodka is.

    So glad you made it!!!!!!!!

  34. Lisa on September 6, 2009 at 9:28 pm

I’m a Manhattan and Martini gal when I go for cocktails. I’m from OKC and everytime I go back to visit, l go to a restaurant called Nonna’s. The food is great and they have an awesome bar. Their bar is called the Purple Bar.

  35. Menden @ Skinny Menny on September 6, 2009 at 9:29 pm

So fun!! Looks like you and the pilot had a blast last night 🙂

I’m a definite wine-o, but when that’s not available I’ll usually get a vodka tonic with as many slices of lime as they’ll give me!

When I was under 21 I lived off of Sprite. Yeah, and that was about it…just sprite 😉 I can’t imagine drinking that much soda these days!

  36. Jenna on September 6, 2009 at 9:43 pm

looks like you had a fun night gina!

  37. Fallon on September 6, 2009 at 11:47 pm

I can’t stand mix drink but if wine or beer isn’t available.. I like a diet coke with captain morgan. I can’t even remember the last time I had a drink, I’m not big on the hard alcohol. 1 sip and I’m head over heels 😉

  38. Angharad (Eating for England) on September 7, 2009 at 12:45 am

Taco Bell? Gasp! JK. Glad you had some drunky snackage…that’s the best and most rewarding kinda snackage, no? I myself just tucked into some delicious tater tots at the bar and they were glorious nuggets of potato joy if I do say so…

Adult bev of choice is either a gin and tonic, a glass of delish wine or a blue moon or oberon beer…depending on my mood and the weather!!

  39. Tay on September 7, 2009 at 1:04 am

Wooohoooo how fun! I love dancing nights 🙂 The drink I always get is a Long Island. I’m semi-new to the bar scene so I’m trying to find better drinks I like! Any suggestions?

  40. WholeBodyLove on September 7, 2009 at 1:40 am

I prefer wine too! But, it gives me monster migraines 🙁 My favorite mixed drink depends on my mood. I haven’t had a drink since Valentines Day. I guess I only drink on special occasions but not purposely. Before I turned 21, I would drink Jack and diet coke because it was hard for the bouncers to tell from a distance if my drink was alcoholic (*I don’t condone underaged drinking* 😉 When I turned 21 I loved Disaronno Amaretto sours. When we went through our phase of eating at a Mexican restaurant every week, I loved margaritas on the rocks!

  41. Traci on September 7, 2009 at 7:01 am

I was always a white wine girl when I still drank. But since I stopped drinking 13 years ago (am I really that old?!?!), I usually have either cranberry juice or pomegranite juice with sparkling water and lime. It looks beautiful and tastes delish! When I’m going to an outing at someone’s house, I sometimes bring a good ginger beer.

  42. Brittany on September 7, 2009 at 10:03 am

My favorite bar drink is vodka, lime, and soda water. It tastes good and doesn’t have too many calories.

  43. Stephanie on September 7, 2009 at 10:26 am

MOJITOS!! drank our fair share of these on the cruise we just got back from 😉

  44. Low on September 7, 2009 at 11:19 am

I thought about going to America’s Pub last night. Guess I should have!

My fave drink is either a good beer or a Dirty Martini.

  45. Mellissa on September 7, 2009 at 11:33 am

A good bloody mary is the way to go!

  46. Marycela on September 7, 2009 at 7:48 pm

I like vodka soda or maker’s mark with a splash of water

  47. NySoonerGirl on September 8, 2009 at 11:17 am

Thank you so much for the OKC pics! I miss it so much! Bricktown is a great place to hang out!

And I’m old fart at heart: gin and tonic all the way!

  48. Ashley on September 8, 2009 at 1:50 pm
