Pancake Abomination

Hey guys! Hope you’re having a wonderful day <3 Happy Father’s Day to my Dadoo and step-dad, to all of the dads out there, soon-to-be dads and to all of the single mamas who are moms and “dads” to their children.

It’s a good thing I was still kind of full from last night when I made breakfast…

behold

Pancake Abomination.

pancake

I’m embarrassed, haha.

I made my Perfect Protein Pancakes and totally forgot the flour. I was wondering why they were sticking and wouldn’t hold their pancakey shape.

You win some, you lose some, eh??

After bfast, we took the puppers back to the dog park. The way they squeal when we pull into the parking lot makes the long-ish drive worthwhile.tree

It just makes them so happy 🙂

vies

They love racing the big dogs down the fence.

running

Little nuggets 😉

Lunch was leftover chopped salad, with olives and jalapenos, on a bed of romaine.

On the workout front, I skipped out today. The original plan was to yoga and get some cardio in, but my body is sore and I’m tired. I’ll back back tomorrow and ready to go 🙂

Now I’m at Bizzle, sipping on green tea and getting some computer work done.

Snack:

larabar

Have a wonderful night <3

xoxo,

G$

I love that you post food mess-ups as well! Did they taste alright?? 🙂

My BF recently wanted to sweeten his cereal so he used my stevia instead of sugar….and he used the same amount he uses when adding regular sugar! I heard him holler and start spitting from the other end of the apartment, LOL!!!!

  2. Allison @ Food For Healing on June 20, 2010 at 4:21 pm

messups can sometimes be the most delicious! they may not look appetizing but they can be very good. sometimes not however, but as you said, you win some you lose some.

i’ve messed up a lot of things in my day, too many to list! most were not very appetizing though.
I remember when my sister, back in early high school, made chocolate chip cookies for Home-Ec, and added salt instead of sugar, they were HORRIBLE lol

  3. Alex on June 20, 2010 at 4:54 pm

This is a bit off topic, but I’m starting to have an addiction to veggie chips. Bad or somewhat healthy??

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2010 at 5:18 pm

there are much worse things than veggie chips 🙂
what kind? the kind in the bag or the bulk bins?

  4. Lauren @ eater not a runner on June 20, 2010 at 5:10 pm

Everyone has a recipe disaster every once in a while!!

  5. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on June 20, 2010 at 5:11 pm

Hahah I have mess ups in the kitchen probably twice a week! The most common is burnt sweet tater fries.

  6. Bethany @ More Fruit Please on June 20, 2010 at 5:13 pm

Happy Father’s Day to the pilot! (The pups count, right?) I only put in a third of the flour that I meant to recently in a batch of chocolate chip cookies. They were meant for someone else, and thankfully, she isn’t a picky eater!

  7. shelly on June 20, 2010 at 5:15 pm

I made oatmeal cookies last week that were brutal! Thank goodness I put raisins in at the last minute because it was the only thing that made them slightly edible. Yuck!

  8. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on June 20, 2010 at 5:30 pm

I used seasoned rice vinegar instead of regular rice vinegar in a recent asian noodle dish. Yuck.

  9. Lauren @ Eat, Drink, and Be Hopeful on June 20, 2010 at 5:33 pm

    Hey Gina-

This is really random, but I have always been curious-how do you prepare your oat groats? I bought some after seeing them on your blog, but have no idea what to do with them. I know I’m supposed to soak them overnight, and I have seen you say that you put them in the food processor, but then what? I’ve read to dry them out in a dehydrator, but do you just eat them soaked or do you cook them on the stove like regular oats? Just curious! Thanks so much.

P.s. Your Bobby Flay meal looked incredible!!!!

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2010 at 5:42 pm

usually i soaked them overnight, then blend up with almond milk banana and protein powder
or, you can cook them on the stovetop
or dehydrate them after soaking and eat like a cold cereal with milk

  10. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on June 20, 2010 at 5:35 pm

Ahh yes I mess up on a fairly regular basis – it’s a wonder when I actually manage to make something 100% right! My problems usually lie in attempting to halve a recipe, but half way through I forget that I’m supposed to be dividing everything by 2, and I end up having to go back and add the remaining halves of the first couple ingredients. Now when I print off recipes, I make sure I go through and cross the initial quantities out… lol, you’d think I’d be able to divide by 2 hey?? 🙂

The dogs are so cute and looked like they enjoyed their day!

Oh larabars rock, Im dying to try the new flavors when they come out!!!

Sorry about the pancake abomination, cute photos of the dogs though! 🙂

  16. Dana in KC on June 20, 2010 at 6:22 pm

I can not cook rice! Brown or white, doesn’t matter. I get it mushy from over cooking or it stays crunchy. I’ve tried every method I heard of~ towel around lid, pre soaking, boil like pasta, etc. I even bought a rice cooker once and couldn’t use that either. My favorite post is now the one with your vita mix in the Bahamas.

  17. Betsy on June 20, 2010 at 6:32 pm

Please put your summer shape up food plan on the favorites tab. Its a great resource for meal ideas and the best foods to eat. Also, I printed the Bobby Flay chopped salad recipe, yum!

  18. Doc on June 20, 2010 at 6:42 pm

I second that the shape-ups should get a place on the tab. My personal favorites are the ‘relationship with running’ themed ones of late.

Also, I really like the ones where you were cooking at the raw cooking school. I’m fascinated by those posts!

  19. Marissa on June 20, 2010 at 6:43 pm

One of my goals this summer is to take my dog to the local park! He’s nine years old and it will be his FIRST time; goodness, I feel like I’ve wasted his youth! I just hope he doesn’t try to eat another dog… And as far as kitchen disasters… well, I made cookies on Wednesday and forgot to use a nonstick cookie sheet and had to scrape the first batch off with a spatula, hahah. But the crumbs make a delicious topping for yogurt!

  20. Andrea on June 20, 2010 at 6:46 pm

I was making a beer cheese soup and needed to blend it to really break up the melted cheese. I didn’t have a hand blender so I put it in the real blender, put the cover on, and turned it on. Apparently I didn’t hold the cover on well because it ended up ALL over the wall, ceiling, kitchen counter, and, best of all, in my hair. I wasn’t too thrilled, but my husband sure thought it was funny. Lucky him, he got to help clean up after that 😉

I haven’t made soup since. Still too traumatized!

  21. Andrea on June 20, 2010 at 6:47 pm

Oh, and my favorite posts are anything dealing with how much you adore your pilot. Sounds a bit cheesy, I know, but I’m a newlywed and such a romantic so I can’t get enough of those stories. You two seem to really care for each other and it definitely shows.

  22. Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! on June 20, 2010 at 6:50 pm

My favourite posts of yours are the ones in which you’re on vacation, whether in Las Vegas, Orlando or the Bahamas! It’s always interesting to read about what you eat when you’re away from home. Gives me inspiration for my travels!

  23. gigi on June 20, 2010 at 6:52 pm

My latest culinary disaster was a loaf of banana bread. I subed oatmeal for flour and the batter seemed too wet so I added more oatmeal. Everyone called it an oatmeal brick instead of banana bread lol

  24. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on June 20, 2010 at 6:58 pm

I always mess up in the kitchen whenever I try to healthify a dessert recipe. They always turn out terrible!

My favourite posts are your reviews of products and your menus for girls nights! 🙂

Hi Gina, I really loved the summer shape up plan. Scheduling in stretching twice a week really helped me discover my love of yoga. What would you recommend for maintenance?
    Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on June 20, 2010 at 8:46 pm

      hey girl,
i’m so glad you liked it! i have some more workouts on the workout page that you could rotate between in the same kind of format. definitely keep the yoga in there, especially if you love it 🙂

Thank you for putting me on your ‘Roll girl 🙂 My roll is this never ending sea of needing updates…I know it’s a chore, glad you tackled yours!

Culinary stuff…well, I just made homemade Mary’s Crackers. They are super good. I wouldn’t call the recipe a fail actually it’s great, just that after 7 hrs in my dehydrator I said screw it and finished ’em off in the oven for 30 mins b/c I wanted one so bad I couldnt wait any longer! I admitted to cheating and using the oven in my post of course 🙂

  30. Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life on June 20, 2010 at 8:57 pm

No epic culinary disasters lately, BUT I did once attempt a black bean brownie recipe that turned out to be pretty much straight black beans. They were horrible and went straight to the garbage!!

  31. Sarena (The Non Dairy Queen) on June 20, 2010 at 9:50 pm

Pancakes are good wether they are ugly or pretty! When you top ’em…it is all good! As for culinary disasters…seriously, they happen all the time. I can’t think of any recent ones, but that is probably because I try to put them behind me! I hope you had a great day!

  32. Nicole on June 20, 2010 at 10:18 pm

I love your look inside the fridge post and your most recent insanity review post.

Your Bobby Flay meal last night made me drool!!!

  33. Miranda @ MirandasJeans on June 20, 2010 at 10:28 pm

I love that they played with the big dogs, through the fence. Just so you don’t feel alone, my breakfast this morning an attempt at Angela’s soft serve vegan overnight oats were also an abomination haha.

  34. Brittany on June 20, 2010 at 10:38 pm

YES I actually had a kitchen mishap today! My zucchini bread muffins turned out super dense and moist. Not horrible but definitely not good. Sometimes trying to make a recipe “healthy” ends up backfiring. Oh well, like you said- you win some you lose some. 🙂

  35. Marilou @ Mostly Healthy on June 20, 2010 at 11:38 pm

My food almost always turns up messy! Way too many mishap to count!

G$ your pups are so cute:) Wish I had a dog park like that to go to! And oh-my-gosh how funny are your pancakes! I only kid because I have forgotten a key ingreadient 154,268,974 times haha

I reallllly like the posts where you put the meals you cook for the Pilot. I think it’s really sweet and most of us can relate to it.
I also like the ones where you show the clothing you have bought recently!

How did the pancakes come out without flour?!

I often have disasters in the kitchen… like the one time the hubs and I tried to make brownies with olive oil instead of vegetable oil… I’m still scarred.

Love the pancake abomination. I made pizza crust last night and couldn’t figure out why the dough wasn’t rising….then I saw the unopened packet of yeast. Whoops!! Haha, it happens :).
