Personal Shopper

Hi guys 😀 How’s your Monday treating ya? Hopefully it’s been bueno so far 🙂

This morning, I got up early to meet the girls at the gym and was greeted by a rainstorm. I was so tempted to crawl back into bed, but it’s harder to ditch out when you know friends are waiting for you.

Pre-gym:

millet

Millet with AB, mesquite, cinnamon and banana

Post-gym:

pudding (2)

I dissolved 1 scoop Sun Warrior in enough almond milk to thin it out, then added 2 T chia seeds and 1/4 C So Delicious Coconut Yogurt

Look how THICK it came out:

pudding

It was pretty much foodgasmic 😉

I ran some errands, cleaned up a little around here, then made some Vegan Gluten-free cornbread to go with our dinner tonight.

cornbread (2)

I used the recipe in the Babycakes cookbook that one of my lovely clients gave me, and added in some green chilies, cayenne and cumin.

And may have had a little taste with Earth Balance:

cornbread

Quality control 😉

The funny thing is, I don’t like corn. At all. I do however like bread and chips, so put corn into bread or chip form and I’m a fan 😀

011

Half packed up for us, and half for my friend Ashley, who’s gluten-free.

It was a lot of fun to hit up the health food store today to pick up the goodies for Bethany, since she chose the name of the cafe.

Girl, we hooked you up.

014

She’s getting ginger chews, raw almond butter, an energy supplement (since she’ training for a half marathon), raw agave, 2 coconut waters for electrolyte replenishment, local Georgia honey, Raw Revolution bars, Larabars and a dozen macaroons (unpictured—I still have to bag them up). Expect your goodies soon, Bethany! I had fun playing personal shopper.

When I got back to the casa, it was lunchtime.

I had the same salad as yesterday because I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

salad

You know it’s a good salad when you can’t get it outta your mind 🙂

I’m off to train a couple of clients, then running the first session of the Lifestyle Challenge we’re having at the gym.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

xoxo,

Gina

Today’s tip: If you work a desk job, take a break every hour or two to walk around, do some stretches or yoga moves, and get your blood flowing before you get back to work. It makes the day go by faster, can help you sneak in some extra exercise, and each time you’ll return focused and ready to tackle the rest of what you have to do. When I was a finance intern at the hospital, every hour or so, I would find an errand to run for someone so I could walk around or would just do light stretching at my desk. Everyone thought I was crazy at first, but before long, they started doing it, too.

I’m pretty sure I would die in a sea of grocery love if I were someone’s personal health food shopper! I gotta look into that 🙂

  2. Jessica @ How Sweet on February 22, 2010 at 3:18 pm

I jsut recently starting loving cornbread. It looks so good I may make some for dinner tonight! 🙂

  3. Heather (Heather's Dish) on February 22, 2010 at 3:20 pm

I love that tip! I have a desk job, and I drink a ton of water, so every trip to the restroom I do wall sits in the stall (WEIRD-OOOO). it’s nice to be alone for a bit and just do something that invigorates me!

    • Jenny @ nutmegger on February 22, 2010 at 3:29 pm

I love that! I’m definitely going to start that little workout move 🙂

  4. Erin Alexandria on February 22, 2010 at 3:41 pm

Thanks so much, I would love if you posted more tips [anything from meals, snacks to little exercises] for those of us who have 8-5s @ a desk!

  5. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on February 22, 2010 at 3:44 pm

    Good tips!!! 🙂 🙂

Sometimes I walk a few flights of stairs when I need a breather and/or have been sitting at my lab bench for too long.

Oh and Bethany, you are hooked up!!! 😉 So lucky!

  6. Jennie {in Wonderland} on February 22, 2010 at 3:46 pm

I wonder if ‘personal health food shopper’ is a job? I would pay to do that job. So fun!

  7. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on February 22, 2010 at 3:56 pm

I do a lot of grading sitting in a desk, and between each group of 5 papers, I always get down and bust out 10 pushups! It’s a great way to feel a little bit refreshed 🙂

Looks alike you’re a great personal shopper!

  8. Shannon on February 22, 2010 at 3:58 pm

Quick question! Just wondering what brand the Energy Plus is and also do you take it/like it?
Love your bloggy! Can’t go a day without checking in & seeing what you are up to next! Have a great afternoon! 🙂

  9. Lauren @ Eater not a runner on February 22, 2010 at 4:01 pm

That looks like the best package ever 🙂 I sit at a desk all day and it’s the worst!

  10. Keri on February 22, 2010 at 4:01 pm

Oooooh vegan cornbread? That’s nothing short of amazing.

  11. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on February 22, 2010 at 4:03 pm

I am very jealous of that package – I just bought the raw revolution bars from whole foods and love them! Thanks for suggesting them (or eating them really!)

  12. GurlOnA"Diet" on February 22, 2010 at 4:03 pm

yumm! i LOVE corn in ANY form! and those ginger chews are so addictive ><

  13. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on February 22, 2010 at 4:05 pm

Your tip for today is so great. I work at a desk all day long and I get stiff and sore if I don’t get up. Plus, I’m up every half hour or more to get a refill on my water anyhow. It’s a great break for tired computer eyes, too.

  14. Sarah Ikegami on February 22, 2010 at 4:18 pm

I LOVE coconut water, what a treat! Thanks for the tips. I used to have an office job and would sip on lots of hot water and tea to keep me warm and hydrated. I would have to get up and use the ladies room which allowed for a quick stretch to break up the day 🙂

  15. Paige (Running Around Normal) on February 22, 2010 at 4:20 pm

I hate when the weather tries and foils my workout plans!
That corn bread looks so light and fluffy! I had a piece with my big salad today, too. Twas mighty tasty!
Bethany is one lucky girl! I can’t find those Raw revolution bars anywhere!

  16. Heather @ get healthy with Heather on February 22, 2010 at 4:25 pm

I always try to get up at least once an hour from my desk. It really drags sitting in the same spot all day… I like movement!

  17. La on February 22, 2010 at 4:26 pm

As a student I try really hard to take “stretch breaks” during the day – rushing across campus from one class to another, although it does get my heart rate up, does NOT do it for me! Thankfully my school’s gym offers lunchtime yoga I try to take advantage of when I can…. Great tip!!

I also don’t love corn, but CORNBREAD is gold in bread form! So so so good. Esp with something spicy.

  18. Lily @ Lily's Health Pad on February 22, 2010 at 4:30 pm

Bethany, you are one lucky gal! I’ve been dying to try that coconut water.

  19. brittney on February 22, 2010 at 4:37 pm

I grew up on cornbread. YUM.

  20. Sara C. on February 22, 2010 at 4:38 pm

Great tip and comments!…I sometimes feel like the only workout I get during my 8-5 is reading the workouts on this blog!! 🙂

  21. Bethany @ Not Unless I'm Being Chased on February 22, 2010 at 4:40 pm

HOLY YUM! I am so jacked to try all those goodies; thanks, Gina! I’m so excited to get this package because I know you know your health food goodies…much better than if I wandered into a store with a panicked look on my face, mumbling, “um, protein bar…agave??”
P.S. You should totally look into being a health food personal shopper — you know, on top of everything else you’re doing, haha!

  22. Nikki on February 22, 2010 at 4:46 pm

this is a dumb question, but what is mesquite? I was going to make the bfast cookie for the first time this weekend but the only mesquite I could find was a smoked flavor and that didn’t seem right.. thanks!

  23. Jenn @ Livewellfit on February 22, 2010 at 4:50 pm

Such a great tip about always getting up to move around. I left my full time job in the fall and am now building my own business out of my home. What does that mean? LOTS AND LOTS of time reading, writing, emailing, etc so to further that…lots of time sitting. I always take a break at the hour, on the hour to walk around and get moving. If I’m on the phone I never sit while I talk. I always walk around the place. I hope the neighbors below don’t mind my constant pacing. 🙂

  24. Katie @ Health for the Whole Self on February 22, 2010 at 4:59 pm

Getting up from your desk and moving around is so important for both your body and your mind: your body instantly feels rejuvenated, and it improves your focus and concentration so your actual work is better as well! It’s a win-win!

  25. TorontoGirloutWest on February 22, 2010 at 5:02 pm

lol Oh girlie…. you’re the first Mexican I’ve ever met who doesn’t like corn!! ? Do you at least like tortillas?!?!

  26. caronae on February 22, 2010 at 5:20 pm

That cornbread sounds mighty tasty. I like cornbread way more than corn too! And I love your heart bowl.

  27. fittingbackin on February 22, 2010 at 5:35 pm

I am SO with you! I’ve never just eaten corn. Like by itself. It HAS to be in chips or bread or salsa or something! haha

  28. Lizzy on February 22, 2010 at 5:46 pm

i’m a total dork… but when you said this..

a dozen macaroons (unpictured—I still have to bag them up).

i immediately started singing no diggity in my head. “i like the way ya work it, no diggity, i got to bag it up”

    haha that’s all .

    • Fitnessista on February 22, 2010 at 8:23 pm

      LOL.

  29. Emilyeatsclean on February 22, 2010 at 5:47 pm

great tip of the day. i try to do that when i’m in the middle of a marathon study session. unfortunately my profs frown upon leaving in the middle of a class, even if it’s 3 hours 🙁

  31. adriana on February 22, 2010 at 6:16 pm

Hi Gina. This is totally off topic, but did you ever deal with people’s rude comments when you lost weight? My family is for the most part very blunt and rude, and yesterday when I went to see my grandmother who just got here from Mexico, said I looked to skinny and asked me if I was sick in a total nosy way, not at all really concerned about my health. How would you have replied, or any of the other readers? I kind of awkwardly smiled and said I felt fine, but I keep wishing I had said something that let her know it is NOT okay to make those comments.

    • Fitnessista on February 22, 2010 at 8:22 pm

      that’s always a toughie :/
we talked about it a little on the blog before, check out what these ladies had to say: http://fitnessista.com/?p=398
for me, i try to brush it off and remember that i’m doing what’s best for ME. no one else can dictate how i should fuel my body.

  32. Lauren on February 22, 2010 at 6:18 pm

That’s an awesome package the winner is getting! And a great name she picked!

  33. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on February 22, 2010 at 7:24 pm

What a great bag of goodies! Again, I love the name so it is well deserved =D

I NEED to try that salad!

Personal Shopper? Gina, I think you’ve got somethin’ here! lol – could you imagine adding one more thing to your already overflowing plate?! You’re amazing and would be a fantastic “real” personal shopper, but you’re such a busy bee already that I think I’ll just keep dreaming. 😉

  35. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on February 22, 2010 at 8:57 pm

I like to workout with buddies….it’s true..you are more likely to go workout if you know someone’s waiting for you.

  36. Taylor on February 22, 2010 at 9:10 pm

I too have a desk job…I try to do some leg raises and arm stretches while sitting at my chair and walks around the building when I get a second or two. It gives me a burst of energy!

    YUM.

Great tip! My office is actually in a warehouse so I can walk laps around the huge building. My favorite time is when I’m making a cup of tea: put cup of water in micro for 2 minutes, walk 2 laps. Put tea bag in mug, walk 2 laps. Then back to work with a brewed cup of tea!

  41. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin on February 22, 2010 at 10:58 pm

I have to try the cornbread recipe next! My mom is going to be visiting me in two weeks, and she LOVES cornbread… wonder if I can “fool” her with a healthy version! (probably not) 😉 Adding onion and green chiles sounds tasty!

Tomorrow’s my a rest-day from running, so I’m going to try your Summer Shape Up workout! Can’t wait!

  42. Jessica @ Fit and Clean on February 22, 2010 at 11:06 pm

Your cornbread looked amazing! I need to try to make some from scratch…I don’t think I’ve ever had “real” cornbread (not from a mix). 🙂

  43. carolinebee on February 22, 2010 at 11:23 pm

OMG sooooooo exciting about the cafe 😀 Can’t wait to hear about the progress! Great tip about the walking- we were just learning in my Anatomy class today about how your blood can pool when your veins are pressed down for long periods of time (ie: legs crossed or sitting at a desk or on a plane) and that is noo bueno for circulation! I have mayj respect for the 8-5er ppl that manage to work out in between or on top of a desk job!
PS HIIIII!!….mara said she chatted w/u before our bloggie bfast date!! 😀 Xo

  47. Ashley K on February 23, 2010 at 3:38 pm

Oh my gosh I LOVED that cornbread! The coconut oil is such a great touch and so healthy! I made the Jalapeno version with diced japs and cubed “Follow Your Heart” cheese, then baked ’em in muffin tins. Lovely! That book rocks, I would love to visit the actual bakery!

Congrats on the cafe! Keep on rockin’! 😉

  48. Caitlin @ Right Foot Forward on February 24, 2010 at 7:10 am

I am definitely going to start randomly stretching at my cube in the middle of the day! My coworkers will think I am nuts! That’s a really good idea, though.

    Your cornbread looks delish!

  49. All Women Stalker on February 27, 2010 at 11:43 am

I absolutely love corn! And know we know why you can’t get that salad out of your mind– it’s absolutely fantastic!
