Pets make you brave

Helloooooo 😀 Hope you had a bueno Sunday!

So almost immediately after my last post, Bella got sick (again) and we rushed off to the animal hospital. They checked her and said she was fine, then gave her a anti-nausea shot (which she cried for and I had to hug her and hold her head so the vet could do it) and an antibiotic shot. The crazy thing is I never would have been able to do that before. I am the biggest needle-phobe in the world and usually have to leave the room while they do tests, or give shots because I get so dizzy and pass out if I see blood. Today, I had to do it. It was just the vet and myself, and someone had to hold her while she got poked and prodded, and that someone had to be me. I’m pretty proud to say I stepped up for the occasion and was fine, but also bummed to say that since I’ve brought her home, she’s gotten sick two more times. I already talked to the vet (who thinks she’ll be fine until the morning) and we’re going back in when they open tomorrow. My life.

The invalid:

belly

So in the midst of puppy wrangling and calling the pilot and vet frantically, I had a super quick lunch.

Ezekiel with balsamic drizzled on top:

ezekmuffin

Amy’s butternut soup:

bnutsopa

(Topped with cayenne)

After the vet visit, I stayed around to see how Bella was doing for a couple of hours, and since she was acting ok, I met Ashley at the gym for weights and then hit up the commiscary for groceries.

Supine chest fly and push combo 5 ea 3 sets of 12
Supine dumbbell skull crushers 5 ea 3 sets of 12
Side laying lat raise 5 lbs 3 sets of 10 on each side
Stability ball push-ups Body weight 3 sets of 10
Overhead press 8 each 3 sets of 10
Dips Body weight 3 sets of 10
Total time: 50 minutes

To  be honest, I’m too worried about Bella to want to eat anything, but knew I needed to have dinner so here’s what I whipped up:

noodleveggies

Zucchini noodles with almond butter, orange bell pepper, rice wine vinegar, nama shoyu and scallions.

abzucnoodles

Roasted brussels and baby bella mushrooms with garlic, extra virgin olive oil, sea salt and pepper

brusselsandshrooms

It was pretty much amazing.

Well I’m off to cuddle this sick puppy and lay low for the night. Here’s hoping it’s an uneventful evening.

xoxo,

G

I hope Bella feels better…it’s so sad when animals are sick and can’t say what’s wrong! One Vet put it to me something like this, “Do you get sick and throw up or have diarrhea sometimes? Well, OK, occassionally so will your dog.” Wow. Jerk. But he’s kind of right. I give Amber rice with some green beans when she’s pukey and put some pumpkin in her food when the problem is the other end. Hope it gets better!

    Gina,
I’m sending good thoughts your way and hope Bella baby is OK. Saying prayers that she’ll be all better with a good night’s sleep. Believe me I know first hand what you’re going through. If you need to chat, I’m always available (anytime, seriously!). You know where to contact me.

Never thought to add mushrooms with my brussel sprouts. Yum!

  21. Brittany on October 25, 2009 at 9:58 pm

Aww.. poor Bella. We just recently had a similar situation with Olive- she was throwing up and had diarrhea. I had to take her in to get an anti-nausea shot as well. It went away after one day and I’m pretty sure it was because she had eaten a few pieces of raw onion and garlic that fell on the floor when I was making soup. Has Bella eaten eaten anything unusual, maybe that’s the culprit. Sending get well wishes her way!

I wonder why Bella got so sick. Do they think maybe she ate something she shouldn’t have? Poor baby.

Just think, this is good practice for when you have baby fitnessista and pilots. 🙂

I hope you guys are both better tomorrow!!!

  29. *Andrea* on October 25, 2009 at 11:58 pm

Poor Bella! I hate it when the puppies get sick. They don’t understand why the hurt or don’t feel well and that really pulls on my heartstrings. Get well soon, Bella!~

  37. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on October 26, 2009 at 11:03 am

Your eats looked pretty rockin’ even if you felt like you half-a$$ed it, ma’am. Hope your puppy is on the mend by now – it can’t be fun to have an invalid pupster. 🙁

  38. Jordan on October 26, 2009 at 11:04 am

I get the same way when I have to take Elliott to the vet. It makes me wanna cryyyyy. Not because I’m squeamish, though, it’s because I hate seeing my lil baby in pain.

  39. Melissa (Melissa Likes To Eat) on October 26, 2009 at 11:17 am

Poor little Bella!!! She’s lucky to have a nice mommy like you! It’s amazing what you can do when you love someone. 🙂

it’s so funny that all you women in America like to eat Brussel’s sprouts while I am from Belgium and I hate them! But I have never eaten them roasted like you do; I guess I should give it a try!

by the way, i’ve been browsing your blog a litle and I was wondering: will you be posting any new challenges soon? I would love to join in, if that would be the case 🙂

    • Fitnessista on October 26, 2009 at 1:28 pm

definitely try them roasted– they’re amazing with garlic, sea salt, olive oil and pepper
i was thinking about doing a holiday challenge…. we shall see 😀

  46. Tina on October 26, 2009 at 1:32 pm

Poor Bella! I agree–pets are like children, and there’s nothing you wouldn’t want to do for them! Not that I’d know since I don’t have children…but I can imagine haha 🙂

    • Fitnessista on October 26, 2009 at 1:45 pm

same here! they ARE children.. little fur babies

  47. Brenna on October 26, 2009 at 1:43 pm
