PickyPicky

Hi guys 😀 Sorry I’m so late posting today—we were locked outside of my Aunt’s house and while I could pick up her WiFi from the car, my laptop was inside. We’re in the casa now and I’m happily on the couch 🙂

So we made it to Orlando safely!

When we got into town, there was one hour left of the Expo so I figured it would be best to hit it up Friday night than fight the crowds today.

It was held at the beautiful Wide World of Sports

expo

The pilot stayed outside with Bell and I ran in to pick up my race packet and whatever goodies I might find.

When I walked in, I knew it would be glorious:

expo (2)

But it ended up being an expo of lies.

They didn’t have any official merch in my size and the employees told me they wouldn’t be getting more in. It blew my mind because SO many people are running this race, and at least half of the runners arriving later wouldn’t have a chance of finding anything in their size.

I don’t like to be Jane complainer on the bloggy, but it was so lame. I found a shirt from a vendor, picked up a belt-thingy to put the Flip in, grabbed my race packet and my race shirt (which is a size too big… I registered early and paid over $100 for a shirt that doesn’t fit me), and then peaced out.

We picked up my aunt and the ever-resourceful pilot suggested that we go to hibachi…and have a sake bomb 🙂

We went to Kobe, which I immediately liked when I saw the fish swimming around inside (see, I really am not that hard to please!).

Best. Meal. Everrrrrr.

We each had a sake bomb(unpictured) and shared edamame:

They started off with the usual soup:

And then our chef, who was a riot, came out to start our meals.

Since I ordered my salmon with no rice, no noodles and extra veggies, he nicknamed me “PickyPicky”.

He went around to check our orders and when he got to me, here’s what our conversation looked like:

Cheffer: Hey there, PickyPicky. You don’t want rice?

Me: No, thank you

Chaffer: No noodle?

Me: No, thank you

Cheffer: No salmon??

Me: Yes, salmon

Cheffer: No rice?

Me: No thanks

Cheffer: No noodle?

Me: Nope

Cheffer: No salmon??

He did this two more times and by the end, I was dying. He called me PickyPicky the rest of the night.. he also called my aunt Mami and said he wanted to take her home but that’s a totally different story 😀

FIRE!

I had the wild-caught sashimi grade salmon with lots of veggies:

‘Twas glorious 😀

I’m off to make tomorrow’s baller playlist and then we’re meeting friends for an early dinner.

I’ll post my race goodies and playlist bright and early tomorrow morning when we leave! EEEEEEEK!

See ya after the half- please send sunny and speedy vibes my way <3

xoxo,

Gina

Hibachi dinners are always so fun! I’m glad he wasn’t rude about your order, just funny 🙂 Looks like quite the feast!

Too bad about the expo…I guess that’s the downside to big runs! Good luck tomorrow!

    • Fitnessista on March 6, 2010 at 3:30 pm

      thank you! <3

  2. Jenny on March 6, 2010 at 3:33 pm

That really sucks about your shirt!! I would be annoyed too. Your hibachi feast looks scrumptious! I love me some edamame! You are going to do fantastic tomorrow!! I’m proud of you! 🙂

  3. TorontoGirloutWest on March 6, 2010 at 3:42 pm

I’m happy to see you’re feeling better girlie! 🙂

And yeah that sucks about the race expo – sometimes I think races are way too over priced considering you end up with shirts that don’t fit and the like. Either way I’m sure you’re play list will be rocking and you’ll have a fantastic run tomorrow! Princess style! 🙂

    Enjoy!!!

  4. Little Bookworm on March 6, 2010 at 3:46 pm

    Good luck tomorrow! 😀

Too bad about the expo & shirt. that is really frustrating!

    Good luck tomorrow.

  8. ida on March 6, 2010 at 3:51 pm

    good luck tomorrow!

I hate when expos run out of shirts early, what’s the point in ordering a specific size if they aren’t going to have it for you anyway?! you can channel your anger into a strong run tomorrow though:)

    • Fitnessista on March 6, 2010 at 3:53 pm

      exactly 🙂

  9. jordan on March 6, 2010 at 3:57 pm

i have a quick question: how do you eat edamame?

    • Fitnessista on March 6, 2010 at 4:03 pm

i bite it on the end and slide it out.. so that all the little beans pop out into my mouth 🙂

  10. Shayna @ Cuts and Curves on March 6, 2010 at 3:59 pm

Sorry about the terrible expo! I can’t believe they didn’t have your size… my goodness.

I’m praying that your race will be awesome tomorrow, and you’ll blow your old time away!

Oh, and congrats on the positive attitude. It’s hard to be positive when so many things keep going wrong.

    • Fitnessista on March 6, 2010 at 4:02 pm

thank you!!! i figured the worse i feel the worse ill do, so i better try and keep a good face on 🙂

  11. Melissa (MelissaLikesToEat) on March 6, 2010 at 3:59 pm

Good luck tomorrow!! You’ll do just fine. 🙂 Sorry about the expo…how lame. Your meal looks fabulous. I love restaurants like that!

  12. Tyler Ramey on March 6, 2010 at 4:00 pm

No luck needed, sista. You are going to ROCK Disney’s socks off, guaranteed. Too bad I won’t be there so we can try on silly hats and take pictures, no?!?!

    • Fitnessista on March 6, 2010 at 4:01 pm

seriously, i wish you were running with me!

      • Tyler Ramey on March 6, 2010 at 5:03 pm

You tell me the race, and I will be there. This one is a bit too close, haha…but any others and I am there! You are my BlOgPRAH! (Blog Oprah.) lol

  13. Trish on March 6, 2010 at 4:03 pm

Now, if you were an XXXXXXXL running the 1/2, I could see maybe if they didn’t have your size but for there to be no small sizes is beyond comprehension. I’m really sorry for the bummage for you, it’s a pretty significant event and no small accomplishment. ‘Twere I artsy I would build you a shirt!

  14. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on March 6, 2010 at 4:26 pm

Bummer about the expo…that sucks! BUT, I gotta say, the hibachi meal looks fab, and is it weird that the only thing I associate with PickyPicky is the cat in the Ramona books?

  15. Samantha on March 6, 2010 at 4:32 pm

Can’t wait to see the playlist! You’re going to rock the thing!

Too bad about the expo lack of sensationalism. That sucks you didn’t even get a race shirt in the right size. 🙁 But sometimes it pays to complain so the powers that be can learn from future reference. (too bad that didn’t happen to me when my brand new, worn twice lululemon groove pants got a hole on a seam and the company could care less!)

You might be pickypicky but it helps you stay fittyfitty!

  16. Karyn on March 6, 2010 at 4:38 pm

major bummer about the expo! it just blows my mind how people (and not just races but other things too) never order enough smalls OR mediums.

and that’s too funny about the chef! sounds like he made the whole restaurant experience way cool and fun 🙂

  17. Amanda (Two Boos Who Eat) on March 6, 2010 at 5:03 pm

that sucks about the expo! Especially considering pre-registering and paying more money. 😐

    Good luck tomorrow!!!

  18. Allison @ Food For Healing on March 6, 2010 at 5:04 pm

sorry to hear about the disappointments at the expo. Glad you had a good meal.

Get some rest, smile and you will do great! (seriously, don’t forget to smile)
    xoxo

  19. Marissa on March 6, 2010 at 5:05 pm

what a funny guy! i always adjust menu items too! i just make sure I am smiling while i say it 🙂

  20. Lauren @ BIOCHEMISTA on March 6, 2010 at 5:05 pm

Sorry about the expo ma dear! That’s too bad, I lurrrrve a good expo! I’m assuming you’ll eventually run a marathon someday so when you do you’ll qualify for Boston (don’t argue this one! lol) and then you’ll go to the expo of all expos! 😉

Good luck tomorrow!!!! I’ll try and send lots of sun tomorrow from DC! 🙂

    xoxoxox,

    Lauren

  21. Ian on March 6, 2010 at 5:10 pm

Good luck!!! I did a long run today and thought of you

  22. Caitlin @ Right Foot Forward on March 6, 2010 at 5:20 pm

    I love hibachi!

I find that more and more often, I am disappointed by expos. The first one that I went to was very exciting, but nothing has topped it since. I would be pretty upset over the shirt, too!

  23. Heather (Heather's Dish) on March 6, 2010 at 5:43 pm

consider the speedy vibes sent 🙂 i would be pretty frustrated about the lack of merchandise too…especially if you registered early and the fee was $100! maybe they’ll read this and send you a smaller size…? 🙂

  24. Heidi (Fighting with Food) on March 6, 2010 at 5:51 pm

Not gonna lie.. after your pre-race fiasco, that chef would have tweaked my last nerve! You’re such a trooper and that dinner looks divine 🙂
Did you see any baseball players? The Atlanta Braves do their spring training at Wide World of Sports. We went a few years back and it was magical!

  25. Laughter-Loving Stacy on March 6, 2010 at 6:29 pm

I LOVE restaurants like that! We have one in Seattle called Benihana- DELICIOUS (and very fun)! It’s so entertaining to watch people cook food right there! 🙂

And even though you got gipped at the expo, they usually hype me up! The Rock ‘n Roll half & full marathon series are normally always bitchin’ like that 🙂

I just ran a half marathon today! Beat my previous time so I’m really happy! Be sure to take a nice long cold shower afterwards! You’ll do GREAT!!! 😀

  26. Kristin (Cook, Bake and Nibble) on March 6, 2010 at 6:36 pm

I am constantly called picky as well! Oh well, you’re being healthy!

So sorry about the lame expo.
    You will rock tomorrow!
I will be thinking good thoughts!

  28. Karen w on March 6, 2010 at 6:51 pm

I have run into that at Disney races before, I thought maybe it was just me :). I thought it odd too the lack of sizes available. Have a great run!

  29. caronae on March 6, 2010 at 7:06 pm

Good luck! You’re gonna be fab 🙂

  30. katie on March 6, 2010 at 7:32 pm

I hate that about the expo, that’s frustrating.Glad that your dinner redeemd the evening. I hope tomorrow is AMAZING for you!!

  31. highonhealthy on March 6, 2010 at 8:01 pm

What a disappointing expo.. but you’ll still rock your race tomorrow. 🙂

I love how he nicknamed you PickyPicky although it doesn’t seem picky to me.. maybe because I would have done the same thing. Your dinner looks so good though!

  32. Kere on March 6, 2010 at 9:14 pm

    PickyPicky 😆 that is great!
    Happy running tomorrow!
    Sorry the swag stunk.

  33. Lauren @ eater not a runner on March 6, 2010 at 9:14 pm

That is annoying about the expo! I think for that kind of cash you should be able to get a shirt that fits 😉

  34. Brittany on March 6, 2010 at 9:18 pm

Best of luck tomorrow lady! Can’t wait to hear how it goes. 🙂

  35. Becca on March 6, 2010 at 9:37 pm

Ooh, I hate oriental food but that looks so good!
I will have to write down exactly what you got so I can try it sometime- yum!

  36. Ashley on March 6, 2010 at 9:48 pm

I am SO glad I came across your blog! I am a Zumba fanatic and just got hooked on spin classes – that’s awesome that you teach them both. Sorry the expo was sucky…but the Japanese food looks like it made up for it – even if you had a weirdo waiter!

    • Fitnessista on March 7, 2010 at 5:57 pm

i’m so glad you did too! welcome to the bloggy 🙂

  37. Ashlei on March 6, 2010 at 10:06 pm

Glad you made it safe to Orlando! Rock it at the run @ Disney tomorrow 🙂

  38. Kim on March 6, 2010 at 10:25 pm

I’ve run many disney races now and their race shirts are ALWAYS at least one size too big, and I tend to even order two sizes smaller than I think I need. Prior to that, I received a couple of race shirts that can only be used as nightgowns. Very sad.

We’ve also run into the expo being out of things, which totally sucks. At least the race itself should be great – the medal is so pretty!!!

  39. Jessica @ The Process of Healing on March 6, 2010 at 10:26 pm

So sorry the race expo turned out not so good 🙁 But your dinner looks fabulous!!!

Hahah I feel the same when I go out to eat–so many requests… and I had a similar experience tonight at a greek restaurant… ended up being SUCH good food though. As much as i wanted to completely modify my order, Sometimes you just have to let go a little and roll with it lol.

  44. Rawkin Robin on March 7, 2010 at 1:47 am

Good Luck Sista!!! Can’t wait to hear about the half and your playlist 🙂
