Hi friends! How are you? How was the weekend? I hope you had a great one. <3

Ours was a mix of everything that is good: time spent together, relaxing, adventures, fitness, and… True Food Kitchen.

Friday afternoon, I finally got to introduce the Pilot to my beloved poke bowl from Liberty Station Market. he’s been hearing me rave about them for weeks now, and he finally got to experience it. There’s nothing like it, and he totally agreed with the hype.

Poke bowl

Fresh salmon sashimi, seaweed salad, cucumber, sushi rice, avocado, ginger and ponzu sauce. I could eat this for lunch every day.

We picked Livi up from school, enjoyed dinner here at home, and stayed up late watching Chef’s Table. We are officially sucked in, and it’s fun to have a show that we both enjoy so much. A couple of friends have dined at Alinea in Chicago, and it was incredible to learn more about Grant Achatz.

In not-quite-as-fancy dessert land, here are the beginnings of some brownie cookie bars I was going to make to take to the cake walk at Liv’s school.

Cookie brownie bar fails

They had so much promise, but ended up being a giant fail. They sunk down in the middle and weren’t presentable enough to take.

Don’t you hate when this happens with baked goods?! Usually this results in everyone standing over the pan, taking bites and saying, “Better luck next time.” Except in this case “everyone” = “me” and “better luck next time” = “put the fork away; it’s midnight.” haha

The carnival was such a blast. Livi got to run around with all of her friends, jump in the jumping castle, play games, get her face painted,

Face paint

While P enjoyed people-watching and taking in all of the excitement.

P rose 11 months

(Miss P is thisclose to *really* walking. She can take up to 5 steps and gets braver every day.)

The girls:

and our best attempt at a selfie. 😉

Fam at the carnival

After the carnival, we headed to the mall to get the remaining pieces of the girls’ Halloween costumes and grab dinner. We ate at True Foods, which is one of the standbys. They have so many healthy and delicious options, plus there’s something we all enjoy on the menu.

We’ve been into sharing the edamame dumplings for an appetizer (along with the crudités plate that comes with the best dip),

Edamame 2

and I’ll almost always get the kale salad with salmon.

Workout-wise, I ended up taking a couple of days off since P and I have been fighting this funk. (Way before we had kids, I used to be smug about never getting sick. Now it happens all the time haha. Preschool germs are for real.) Sunday, I felt good enough to take a hot yoga class and ventured to Core Power Yoga for the first time. I have a free intro pass for 7 days, but my initial opinion is mixed. I got a great workout, but there wasn’t a ton of yoga? I’ll report more after I’ve been able to take another class.

This morning we’re off to the zoo with some friends, and then going to gather some supplies for P’s birthday party. I can’t believe she’ll be one NEXT WEEK.

Have a happy Monday!

xoxo

Gina

One of my really good friends is a chef at Alinea and he loves it. I love listening to his work stories and all the cool food things they get to do over there. Chef’s Table on Netflix is amazing! It’s so inspiring! I highly recommend Chef’s Table France and Mind of a Chef. So good!

    • Fitnessista on October 17, 2016 at 4:11 pm

      ahhh that is incredible!!!
and yes i will definitely check those out

Oh I can eat True Food Kithcehn any day. I wish there was one on my side of Phoenix. It’s like an all day adventure getting there. Favorite restaurant by far is Pita Jungle! My Mom treated me there over the weekend.

    • Fitnessista on October 17, 2016 at 4:11 pm

i LOVE pita jungle. we haven’t been in so long!

It sounds like you took Yoga Sculpt, which is more of a strength training/cardio class, and it’s the most challenging class in my opinion. The other options like Hot Power Fusion, C1, or C2 are all about yoga!

    • Fitnessista on October 17, 2016 at 4:11 pm

yes! i thought i was going to C2, but turns out it was sculpt. i’m definitely going to take another class and see how it goes

      • Erika S. on October 18, 2016 at 8:37 pm

Oh….I only like the sculpt class…I’m not a true yogi so sculpt has the rt balance of yoga + conditioning for me. I’m going to C2 (for the first time) on Thursday so hopefully I’ll enjoy it…let me know what u think of CPY.

        • Fitnessista on October 18, 2016 at 8:48 pm

k let me know how C2 goes!! i think i would have liked the sculpt class more if i actually looked at the description before class hahah

I loved going to The Grove when we lived in San Francisco. But give me a good poke bowl any day, yum!

    • Fitnessista on October 17, 2016 at 4:10 pm

      they’re the best!!

  8. Jess @ Keeping It Real Food on October 17, 2016 at 9:57 am

oh my gosh—that poke bowl looks amazing!
Living in NYC, there are so many places I love. One of my absolutely favorites is the Mermaid Inn. Their menu changes every season and there are so many lovely types of fish. I dig the oyster happy hour a lot too. I’m a sucker for prosecco and $1 oysters!

    • Fitnessista on October 17, 2016 at 4:10 pm

ohhh i haven’t heard of that! you’re lucky to be surrounded by so many amazing spots. and hamilton. 🙂

  9. Elizabeth on October 17, 2016 at 11:52 am

That’s too bad about CorePower. I am in love with it! We have several locations in Chicago and throughout the Chicago area. Their C2 classes are more advanced.

Also, good luck going to Alinea! Tickets are about $500/person and kids are not welcome! haha.

    • Fitnessista on October 17, 2016 at 4:10 pm

i think i’m going to try a C2 class next. i thought that’s what i was taking but turns out it was yoga sculpt. 😉
and totally fine on the no kids. i would never want to take them to a place like that anyway hahah

  10. sarah @ the blonde giraffe on October 17, 2016 at 2:15 pm

Looks like an amazing weekend!! Got your download in the email today!! Can’t wait to read through it!!

I tried a Core Power here in Seattle and was never really impressed. It was not the yoga experience I was looking for and made me miss my Charlotte studio.

    • Fitnessista on October 17, 2016 at 4:08 pm

thank you, friend! hope you had a great one too 🙂
i’m usually more into the airy fairy type yoga. i’m going to take another class before i really assess

In san diego, my favorite is tied between Herb & Wood (the new brian malarkey restaurant) and Trust! They are both SO delicious–the branzino at both is just to die for!

    • Fitnessista on October 17, 2016 at 4:08 pm

haven’t heard of either of these! must try before we go 🙂

  12. Bethany on October 17, 2016 at 3:58 pm

That salad looks amazing! It looks very much like a Japanese dish here.

P.S. I think your kids get cuter by the week!

    • Fitnessista on October 17, 2016 at 4:07 pm

      thank you!! <3

Your posts haven’t been posting on Bloglovin the past few days…maybe the server issues or is it just me;) & I accidentally hit report post “other” thinking it would let me notify Bloglovin but NOT…sorry for that:(

  14. masala girl on October 20, 2016 at 11:27 am

i felt the same way about Core Power! It’s a great flow and all, but I don’t like how structured it is, and that every class is the same/similar.

  15. Wendy Heath on October 20, 2016 at 7:10 pm

OMG, I love you. “Put the fork away, it’s midnight” is totally something I relate to. Laughed out loud!

I love Coopersmith’s. Black and Bleu burger, homestyle wedge fries, always hits the spot. Yum!

  16. erin @Serindipity1214 on October 23, 2016 at 4:10 pm

Whenever I have a baking fail I put some ice cream on top and I call it a win!

    • Fitnessista on October 24, 2016 at 1:47 pm

that’s the way to do it!
