Ready to Tri

Heyyyy 😀 Happy almost-Friday! How’s your morning going??

I showed up for my date with the bod pod yesterday:

body pod

They gave me a little swim cap to wear, which make me feel like like a hardcore triathlon chick.

bod pod

Too bad I really looked more like a bug 😉

And too bad the closest thing I’ll ever get to a triathlon is this:

IMG00141-20100330-0834

And this:

solid-pool-noodles-1-  Source

Do they allow spin bikes and pool noodles on the course?? I kid, I kid. 😉 And holler to all of the people who can do triathlons- it impresses me so much! I am just not one of those people.. and I’m cool with that 🙂

The bod pod test went well and I’m excited to go back in a couple of weeks and see how Insanity affects my body fat %.

Some eats from yesterday:

Bar

001

(It kind of tasted like a greasy raw brownie. Not my fave)

Millet + egg white puff

millet

A pizza muffin:

pizza muffin

I made the “muffin” out of Gluten-free baking mix, baking powder, sea salt, Garlic gold and water and just baked it up:

biscuit

And topped it with a mix of veggies: diced tomatoes, zucchini, squash, grape tomatoes, spinach, kidney beans, chickpeas and basil

veg

I ate the rest of the veggies in a bowl:

veg (2)

Dessert was a protein pancake:

protein pancake

I’m still tweaking the recipe, but the texture is almost exactly how I want it 🙂

I’m off to park my booty at the productivity house (aka Bizzle) and then get some new sneaks. I’m in the market for new cross trainers and my Nikes bit the dust.

See ya later, lovely bloggies <3

xoxo

Mmm I am intrigued by your protein pancake! I’m assuming it doesn’t have dairy in it? The best consistency I get with mine is by adding greek yog or cottage cheese. I want the recipe!

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 10:18 am

no dairy! i’ll share it when it’s perfect 🙂

  2. Julie on April 29, 2010 at 9:59 am

You are not sharing your body fat percentage? come on!

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 10:18 am

hahah, nope. 🙂 that info wouldn’t help anyone, ya know?

  3. Katie H. on April 29, 2010 at 10:00 am

I love the quote at the end of your post… so true! I think I would feel claustrophobic in the bod pod, although I would love to know my body fat percentage from something other than calipers- those things hurt! 🙂

  4. Lauren @ Eat, Drink, and Be Hopeful on April 29, 2010 at 10:05 am

I love that quote! Where can you find gluten free baking mix? I know there is gluten free baking powder, but I’ve never seen a mix. I was curious-you may have mentioned this on the blog before, but why do you try to eliminate gluten from your diet? Is it for health reasons or are you allergic? Just curious for my own health reasons. Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 10:19 am

i bought it because my friend ashley is celiac and i like to have gf stuff on hand for when she comes over for dinner. i found that i really like the taste and texture, so why not? 🙂

      • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 10:19 am

i got it at publix- it’s the bob’s red mill brand

        • allison @ livingoneday on April 29, 2010 at 10:44 am

i LOVE publix. my boyfriend is from tampa and i honestly love that place! i miss it when i’m up in philly!!!

  5. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on April 29, 2010 at 10:08 am

I can’t wait to see your protein pancake recipe… i have loads of powder to use and since I’m not a hardcore worker outer, I don’t use it quickly. Also, totally made an egg puff on whole grain bread w/some turkey bacon today for brekkie…YUM i’m in love 🙂

  6. Diana on April 29, 2010 at 10:12 am

Oh, that pancake… yum. I’m on a pancake kick lately!

  7. Erin (Travel, Eat, Repeat) on April 29, 2010 at 10:15 am

That pizza muffin looks great–so many delicious, fresh veggies! 🙂

  8. Karyn on April 29, 2010 at 10:18 am

i totally didn’t even think of how the bod pod or any bf% measuring device would be useful when evaluating an exercise plan. d’oh! i’m really curious now to see what those results are when you finish insanity!

  9. Jenny on April 29, 2010 at 10:18 am

You look cute in your swim cap!

  12. Becca on April 29, 2010 at 10:35 am

    Gina,
hate to be all “ooh your food looks good”-boring, but this salad makes me hungry! I wrote down the ingredients so I can make it sometime.

Can’t wait to see the perfected Protein Pancake recipe!

    Have a great Thursday!

  13. Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman on April 29, 2010 at 10:38 am

What actually happened in the Bod Pod? Did you just sit there? Did it do something to you? Oh, and I’m on a pancake kick lately. I’ve been freezing them straight from the pan and they’re so good when toasted!

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 11:26 am

i wore a sports bra and spandex shorts and had to sit still and breathe normally. it felt like a lot of pressure (made my ears pop!) and then it was done

  14. Emily N on April 29, 2010 at 10:39 am

Your pizza muffin looks yummy. Chickpeas + basil = delish!

  15. allison @ livingoneday on April 29, 2010 at 10:41 am

that pizza muffin looks fantastic – totally something i would cook up. i love just throwing random veggies in a pot and seeing what happens. a no-fail meal!

    • allison @ livingoneday on April 29, 2010 at 10:42 am

ps. im hosting a giveaway tomorrow, so check it out. it’s one of my FAVORITE products!!

  16. LisaG on April 29, 2010 at 10:45 am

What no galick in your veggies? That could very well be you on that noodle!

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 11:26 am

YES there was garlic.. and oregano, and red pepper flakes… i forgot to add that in the post, haha. 🙂

  17. Allie on April 29, 2010 at 10:48 am

i think i might get claustrophobic in the bod pod…when i had an mri last summer i started sweating. i don’t know if i could do it. are you completely enclosed? i am doing insanity too though (INSANE- HA!!) and i agree that body fat % is the best barometer for fitness (i don’t do the scale really).

that protein pancake- yum! i hope we get the recipe soon!!

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 11:25 am

it didn’t feel claustrophobic in there- wasn’t bad at all.

  18. Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg on April 29, 2010 at 10:53 am

lol…that’s the closest I’ll get to a tri too 🙂 No shame!

  19. jen trinque @ recipes for creativity on April 29, 2010 at 10:56 am

I’m glad you didn’t choose to share your body fat percentage, because you’re so right, who would it help? I know many of us get sucked into comparing ourselves to others in blogworld, but I like that you’re just a positive and happy force, not all about your numbers. Yay for good vibes!

  20. Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind on April 29, 2010 at 11:04 am

oooo are you gonna post the protein pancake recipe?! I’ve been wanting to make some lately, but hadn’t heard of any recipes that came with (trusted) recommendations.

I seriously love that quote. So relevant to my life right now. I’m actually thinking about printing it out and taping it to my desk somewhere. Good stuff!

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 11:24 am

      i’ll post it when it’s perfect 🙂

  21. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on April 29, 2010 at 11:05 am

Please tell me I’m not the only one who thinks the Bod Pod looks like Eve from Wall-E. LOL all I can picture is little Wall-E chasing after her and calling “Eeeeeve-a!” Cuteness swoon. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 11:24 am

      walllllll eeeeee
      eeeeeva
you’re totally right! and i’m cracking up over here 🙂

  22. Kilee on April 29, 2010 at 11:09 am

I’m excited to see what you use in the protein pancakes. I bought a few gf pancake mixes, but had to majorly DR them up with add-ins. Have fun at Starbucks. I love it in the spring and summer when you can sit outside, sip iced tea and people watch!

  23. Heather @ get healthy with Heather on April 29, 2010 at 11:17 am

By your post title I thought you were going to say that you signed up for a tri! Haha silly me. I’ll be doing a sprint tri at the end of the summer can’t wait!

  24. Lisa (I'm an Okie) on April 29, 2010 at 11:25 am

I’d love to have a date with a bod pod, simply for its accuracy! Ive only ever gotten measured with calipers and those things are SO innaccurate.

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 11:31 am

yeah my measurement was TOTALLY different than it was with the calipers

      • Mary on April 29, 2010 at 11:59 am

The bodpod was lower or higher than the calipers? C’mon, throw us a bone! LOL

        • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 12:39 pm

          hahah no comment. 😉

  25. Jewels on April 29, 2010 at 11:38 am

Was your body fat the same as when you got it done with calipers? Just curious on how accurate they are

  26. Jewels on April 29, 2010 at 11:39 am

    Ah sorry u already answered!

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 12:40 pm

I’m with you on the triathlon. I totally admire those than can do them. After I ran my first marathon someone suggested I try a triathlon. I said “well, I can run, but I don’t bike or swim, so…” Not gonna happen

  28. Molly on April 29, 2010 at 11:54 am

That PPP looks deeeeelicious! Does it have egg whites in it? I am not an egg-y fan but am thinking of trying one with tofu!

  31. Liz on April 29, 2010 at 12:31 pm

You’re brave for trying the bod pod — I know I should get my body fat percentage measured again but am not quite ready!

Is the recipe for the egg puffs on your blog? For some reason I’m having trouble finding it and would LOVE to try them for breakfast!

  32. Cat on April 29, 2010 at 12:34 pm

I thought the same thing when I ate the raw revolution brownie too. I had to blot it with a napkin!

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 12:38 pm

      yes, they’re super greasy!

  33. Mo on April 29, 2010 at 12:46 pm

Ok, so how about this? Was the bod pod % higher or lower than you expected it to be???? And how long would you say it took?

Your pancake looks so nice and fluffy thick! Can’t wait for the recipe.

    Mo

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 12:59 pm

the bod pod % was *different* than i expected 😉
the actual measurement took less than 30 seconds and i had to do it 3 times so the machine can average the results

  34. Catherine on April 29, 2010 at 12:55 pm

oooh I can’t wait for the protein pancake recipe! Hurry and perfect please!! 😉 I’m assuming there’s egg in there somewhere, or is it totally Vegan?

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 12:59 pm

i’m working on both.. last night’s had egg, this morning’s was vegan 🙂

  37. Female Anon on April 29, 2010 at 1:39 pm

    Hey Ms. Awesome,

I see you don’t want to share your results from the bod pod. But can you at least explain what effect the results had on you? You said they were much different from the calipers. Did the results make you feel like you’ve made progress? Did they make you feel accomplished? Inspired? How did they make you feel?

Your blog is bookmarked, and I read it at work sometimes, too. Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 2:48 pm

      hey girl,
the results made me feel inspired and since it was the first time doing to bod pod, i’m excited to do it again in a couple of weeks and see how i’ve progressed.
      xoxo

  38. Michelle on April 29, 2010 at 1:50 pm

That is cool about how the bod pod measures your body fat % I would love to do that! I wonder if they have them other places?? expensive??

Also you should maybe consider not using nike products because they have such bad business practices, and really exploit people in their production. I just found this out recently, and have decided to no longer support their business. Just a thought 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 2:46 pm

      hey michelle,
the bod pods are pretty easy to find- it was free on base but from what i’ve heard it can be 15-40 to do it.
i agree about nike. they also have some really good business practices but it doesn’t make up for the fact. anyway, i bought asics- they’re my favorite 🙂

  39. Hilary on April 29, 2010 at 2:20 pm

Hi there! I read regularly but rarely comment. I just got my body fat tested in a bodpod and it wasn’t quite the number I was expecting to get ;). I eat a healthy diet and do cardio and lift religiously so I was sorta hoping it was going to be closer to the “athletic” category…ha! Not so much, but it was a healthy number so I AM happy about that. Thanks for sharing your experince and I love your blog!

    • Fitnessista on April 29, 2010 at 2:35 pm

      hey hilary,
thank you so much for reading and for saying hi 🙂
my number wasn’t what i was expecting either.. but you’re totally right, as long as it’s “healthy” everything is good 🙂

The body pod looks so cool, they had that at my gym a few years ago, never did it…if it comes back I will definitely try it out…supposed to be the most accurate for measuring body comp! Was it a weird experience?

Those pancakes look divine. I used to make buckwheat banana protein pancakes every Sunday…haven’t in ages…think you just inspired me to start that tradition up again 😀
