Reebok and Les Mills

[This post is part of my partnership with Les Mills and Reebok. Read on for their new collaboration details!]

Oh, I love when fitness worlds collide. The teaching community here in Tucson is huge, but at the same time very small, so it’s always fun to play a who-knows-whom game with fellow instructors. Different paths always have a way of intersecting, and the fitness nerd in me geeked out a little when I found out about this awesome Les Mills and Reebok partnership.

To mark their alliance, the two brands have produced a short film, Revolution, which celebrates the evolution of studio fitness, from the 1980s to today. The film opens with the iconic aerobics craze of the 80s, where girls sporting leg warmers work-out to an 80’s mix tape. The film continues to progress through the defining fitness movements of the decades, following the step routines of the 90s and the spinning trend of the early 00s before celebrating the powerful, directional LES MILLS workouts of today such as BODYPUMP, all to an evocative soundtrack that’s synonymous with each era. The film was created by award-winning production company Partizan and directed by Warren Fu.

I love watching “vintage” fitness videos, especially for the fashion styles alone. I remember going with my mom to her favorite step class, and feeling really cool because I wore my leotard OUTSIDE my spandex shorts. Some of the styles have come back, too, like the flashy metallics and high-tops. I’m a huge fan of my Reebok high-top sneakers, especially for all of my dance classes.

It’s been amazing to see how the fashion of fitness and style of fitness training have evolved throughout the years. There’s been a significant switch towards more functional movements, and high intensity shorter duration options for busy participants.

I’m pretty stoked about the Les Mills and Reebok partnership and I can’t wait to check out the new goodies!

The Les Mills Reebok shoes and apparel will be available in January 2014- just in time for the New Years classes on our schedules.

Where do you see the evolution of fitness? How has your personal fitness changed over the past few years? For me, it’s been a major switch from quantity to quality. I used to think that more was more, when really less is more.

Hope you have a wonderful night <3

xoxo

I’ve recently added strength training to my routine and have seen more results than ever. It’s such a nice change of pace, and it amazes me how quickly time flies!

Love this new partnership! Gina, are you teaching any Les Mills?

Oh and I also love the evolution of group fitness classes over the years. It’s one of those things that they thought might be a fad in the 70s, but ended up being one of the greatest forms of exercise with an incredible longevity.
I’m in the process of getting my Attack certification (done my module training and currently team teaching) and I think it’s remarkable even how much the various Les Mills classes have evolved over the past 10 years. I remember Attack used to be a little more dance-y, and now it is very much an aggressive, strong, athletic program. Makes it exciting that group fitness can grow and change, yet still hold its core principles.

I love that video, I’ve noticed that fitness has started to really evolve into a culture rather than just a thing you do to stay healthy, i think it’s great how people can connect with each other through different forms of exercise

I adore this video!! I love the evolution. I’m a strong encourager of my girl students hitting the weights. It’s great that it’s a message big companies like Reebok are sending!

I absolutely love Les Mills classes! Body Pump is my jam 🙂

My workouts have definitely switched from running all the time, to still running a lot, but integrating some weight training. I also focus my running not just on distance, but on speed work and hill training.

I tend to get bored doing the same thing every day, so my personal fitness goals are always changing. I do try to incorporate strength, cardio, and stretch into my routines weekly. I’m always trying to find fun and new ways to do it, whereas in the past, I thought in order to achieve results, I had to be a slave to routine and thought it was unsafe to switch things up often.

I haven’t exactly changed my fitness routine of the years (because I’m always switching it up), but he goal of my fitness has changed.

I used to be primarily concerned with burning calories and losing weight. My goal was also to do the longest most intense cardio possible. Now I’m more concerned about my health and working to build strength. Back in the day I would get really bent out of shape if a yoga class was too slow and I didn’t think I was sweating enough or getting my heart rate up. While I still prefer a great sweaty power yoga/vinyasa class, I also see the benefit in a slower practice that really strengthens and lengthens.

I love that video. For me it brings back memories. I know I like to swtich it up more. I do way more strength training, I have added running and I love the les mills classes. I also do more HIIT training.

I used to be a cardio queen and never touched weights. However, I’m really open to anything now and enjoy strength training more than cardio, except when it comes to cycle!

I’m with you are the move to less is more, as long as the less is quality of course. Love seeing the 80s outfits.

Also wanted to let you know that I’ve been thinking of you and your family with the loss of your Nana. It’s nice to see you on Instagram celebrating her life. That’s what I hope for me when I’m gone (hopefully at a nice old age)–that it’s a celebration of my life more than a mourning time.

haha love the 80s leotards! I have still not tried any les miles classes but really want to!

I’ve noticed that women are becoming less concerned with just being “skinny” and more concerned with being strong and fit.

My personal fitness has changed dramatically in just the past year. I went from not being able to run a mile to competing in multiple 5K races. I started crossfit back in September and I love it. It is efficient in comparison to what I was doing before. I love seeing definition in my arms, feeling stronger, and being able to run a lot faster.
