Role Reversal

Hey! Happy Saturday! Hope you’re sleeping in as I write this 😉

Last night, I wanted to go to the gym to read my new book and walk around the indoor track,

(my friend Sarah wrote this!! Can’t wait to dig in)

but the gym would be closing in a half hour.

The solution?

photo (36)

Sabino Canyon! Best outdoor gym ever 🙂

The weather was perfection since the sun was about to set, so we walked for about an hour.

Lurved.

When we got home, I started getting my stuff ready for work today –I have to pack up at least 5 different athletic outfits each day- and the Pilot said he wanted to make me lunch.

As if he couldn’t get any more swoon-worthy…

pilot

it happened 😀

He made the salad beast of my dreams

beast

with

-romaine

-artichoke hearts

-organic chickpeas

-goat cheese

-sundried tomatoes

-sea salt and pepper

-TJs Italian dressing on the side 🙂

beast (2)

+ organic green grapes and gluten-free saltines for snackage

snacks

Getting through the day is going to be so much easier 🙂

Who does the cooking in your house? 99.7% of the time it’s me over here, but if I’m going to get salads like this, I’ll be willing to make a little switcheroo more often 😉

Enjoy your day and I’ll see ya after work!

xoxo

I love it when other people cook for me, but I have to admit, I am a pretty tough critic. Haha! I love cooking! 😀

  2. Cait @ Beyond Bananas on May 28, 2011 at 10:24 am

Looks like an BEAUTIFUL place to take a walk!! How cute that the Pilot made lunch for you! Looks like he did a wonderful job! Hope you have a great day at work, Gina!

  3. Kilee on May 28, 2011 at 10:29 am

That was sooo thoughtful and sweet! You are one lucky lady 🙂 I find a lot of joy and relaxation in cooking most of the time, so I’m happy to do it. However, there are times when I wish that someone would swoop in and take over a meal or two. Since I do all of the cooking in our house, whenever I don’t want to, my boyfriend takes us out to eat. It’s a nice little agreement that we have set up.

I can’t imagine needing 5 gym outfits each day. Hope you have a great Saturday!

Me <—————– Pilot Envy. I want one. A pilot, that is. Where can I find one? (Just don't tell my husband). Or, better yet – maybe I should send him to flight school. Hmmm…..

Enjoy your day!!! (And your salad) 🙂

      haha!

  5. Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) on May 28, 2011 at 10:41 am

I do 100% of the cooking for me, Scott, and Skylar. Sometimes I wish Scott could cook but I am actually happy he stays out of the kitchen…less things he can break, make a mess of, or burn. lol

Pilot did create a winner for you!

And 5 outfits? <—laundry much every day? Ugh! But hey, better than being in sweaty clothes, right!

Glad you had a lovely canyon walk, too!

Aww that’s so sweet. The boyfriend made me teriyaki chicken the other day and I was way impressed. I think they just cook less so we don’t realize the full potential of their secret talent 🙂

  7. Emma Ellis on May 28, 2011 at 10:53 am

That canyon looks beautiful! How cute of the Pilot to make your lunch for you 🙂 I normally make most of the meals, but sometimes my boyfriend will make me lunch too. I always think that it tastes so much nicer when it’s made for me! Even if it’s just what I’d normally make myself anyway haha

I guess I’m lucky that my husband does all the cooking in the house. Every time I try, bad things happen. And he’s pretty good about my saying, “I only have 300 calories left today. Can we do something light?” I love it.

As my BF is currently working from home, he usually prepares dinner for us. He’s a very good cook! But sometimes I also enjoy making my own dishes.

  10. Ali @ Around the VeggieTable on May 28, 2011 at 10:59 am

I almost always do all the cooking in this house, but every once in a while the BF whips up one of his specialties and I just MELT. There is something super romantic about having someone serve you a meal they prepared oh so lovingly 😉

    Love surprises like that 🙂

We’ve been married for a year and a half. I can count on one hand the number of times my husband has cooked for me in that time, and not use all my fingers. 😉 Usually if I don’t feel like cooking, that’s a cue to go out to eat.

  13. kaila @ healthy helper! on May 28, 2011 at 11:33 am

Aww how sweet of him! And I must say the pilot is quite the salad maker! What a great combo!!! Did he come up with that on his own!?! 🙂

  14. Lili on May 28, 2011 at 11:56 am

Thats so cute! I adore artichokes! 🙂 I’ve never thought to put them on a salad though, must try that!

You are friends with Sarah Jio of Vitamin G? You just got even cooler. I love the VitaminG blog!

    aw thats so sweet.
i looove where you live, i think i might have to come live with you in your new house haha

  17. Jen on May 28, 2011 at 12:44 pm

I’m so jealous! My hubby has never cooked for me….the only thing he does is the BBQing…which he does do well BTY 🙂

  18. Carly on May 28, 2011 at 1:12 pm

Your husband is so cute 🙂 Clearly he is happy to be back home with you! In my house I do most of the cooking – which is seriously sad because my husband is a professional chef!!! But I will say, when he does get in the kitchen at home, he makes me some AMAZING food!!!

    • Fitnessista on May 29, 2011 at 1:58 am

my brother is a chef, too, and rarely cooks at home! but when he does… whoa 🙂

  19. Holly @ The Runny Egg on May 28, 2011 at 1:14 pm

I do almost all of the cooking too — but when Jason cooks he goes all out! It is a real treat when he makes us meals.

The Pilot did a great job on the Salad Beast!

  20. Sana on May 28, 2011 at 1:18 pm

    You married a winner!!!

  21. Gina @Running to the Kitchen on May 28, 2011 at 1:22 pm

Wish I had a place like that to walk!
I definitely do 99.9% of the cooking over here. Role reversal every now and then would be nice 😉

  22. Sierra on May 28, 2011 at 1:44 pm

Can you clone him for me? Puh-leeeeeeeeeese? LOL

    • Fitnessista on May 29, 2011 at 1:57 am

i wish i could make multiple pilots to share haha

  23. Parita on May 28, 2011 at 2:25 pm

Loved Sabino Canyon when I lived in Tucson – so beautiful! And what a great hubby you have! So sweet!

  24. Doc (The Healthy Ph.D) on May 28, 2011 at 2:35 pm

Is he measuring your chickpeas? Yesssssss! Actually, my fiance also made me a lunch salad for Friday that was veggies, chickpeas, salsa, and crushed corn chips and I was very thankful!

I do almost all the cooking, but we’re about to live seperately for work for about 1.5 years, so he better learn fast!

    • Fitnessista on May 28, 2011 at 7:22 pm

yes i asked for a half cup 🙂

  25. Stefanie @thenewhealthy on May 28, 2011 at 3:10 pm

How nice of the pilot to make you a glorious salad beast! 🙂

  26. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on May 28, 2011 at 7:09 pm

It’s not often that you can find a guy who can make a decent salad. He’s definitely a keeper! 😀

  27. Kristen @ The Red Velvet Life on May 28, 2011 at 7:15 pm

That’s so sweet of him! I do 99% of our cooking too, but sometimes he helps me in the kitchen and we cook together . . . i.e. I tell him what to put where, haha! It’s really cute 🙂 Also, I love sun-dried tomatoes in salad and anywhere, mmm!

  28. Danielle (Shrinking and Studying) on May 28, 2011 at 8:36 pm

I usually do all the cooking since my boyfriend only knows how to cook two recipes (However, one of them is a mean Greek lemon chicken) and pretty much lived off grilled meat and fruit before I moved in. I don’t mind though and he usually does all my dishes after so I can’t really complain!

It probably makes sense for your job, but I can’t make sense of why you’d need five outfits for work! Do you change for every class? 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 29, 2011 at 1:57 am

yep! i need different outfits for everything: a teaching outfit, weight room outfit, pool outfit, zumba outfit, and outfit for my lunchtime weights workout

  29. Shrinking Diva on May 28, 2011 at 9:46 pm

Awww, that’s so cute. When my bf cooks for me, he adds too many fatty ingredients (whole milk, buttah) it’s always delicious but not good for my hips!

Wow- 5 outfits! You must do a LOT of laundry with the new job, huh? I hope your new house has a lovely laundry area! 🙂

  30. Babs on May 28, 2011 at 9:47 pm

Aww too cute! I do most of the cooking on this end, but only because I want to. My hubby is a pretty fantastic cook, and he’s also the type of guy to make beds, clean bathrooms, and do laundry 🙂 I consider myself blessed!

  31. Alyssa on May 28, 2011 at 11:25 pm

Hey, I finally tried the toasted seaweed snacks from TJ’s tonight and gave baby Matti one just for kicks and she seriously gobbled them up! She ate six or seven in about 10 minutes! It’s so weird how she won’t eat bland things like plain wheat bread, but she loves things with strong flavors like seaweed and kalamata olives.
Thanks for the great healthy snack recommendation!

    • Fitnessista on May 29, 2011 at 1:22 am

matti is a girl after my own heart- so glad she likes them!

  32. qq:) on May 29, 2011 at 5:12 am

    so good!
i’d like someone to cook for me too

  33. Annie@stronghealthyfit on May 29, 2011 at 10:24 am

Wow- impressive that he made that for you! Looks delicious 🙂

  34. Jessica on December 19, 2011 at 7:51 pm

OMG, you are friends with Sarah??? Shut the front door! That was SUCH a good book. I LOVED it. I literally could not put it down. I think I was done in two days (and I work). Please pass along the message!
