Rookie Mistake

Hi friends <3 How are you? Hope you’re having a wonderful day. Thank you so much for your awesome feedback on this morning’s post. I wasn’t sure if this would happen, but I did end up getting a handful of comments that were political in nature. I do not discuss politics or religion on the blog – but I’m sure there are many other spaces out there for online “who’s right and who’s wrong, let’s point fingers” type of discussions. pond

That being said, onto bfast 😀

We had a glorious feast at the resort [Our Living Social deal was for Loew’s Ventana Canyon]

The Pilot enjoyed the bfast buffet, which had an assortment of fruits, yogurts, eggs, pancakes, bacon, turkey sausage, pastries, omelet station, and juices

and I ordered off the menu: the omelet of my dreams (egg whites, arugula, mushrooms and goat cheese).

It came with a turkey hash, which was turkey, potatoes and green onions

fruit

fruit and a gluten-free apple muffin.

As legendary as it was, apparently that was just the tip of the iceberg, because when we left they were setting up for Sunday brunch, which is from 11-2.

and a plethora of grilled goodies outside, like grilled fruits and veggies, different types of salsa, bacon-wrapped hot dogs, soups (corn and green chili chowder, chili, cornbread) and meat on the grill (ribs, steak, etc). The Pilot was drooling, and we had just finished eating 😉 We’ll be back, Ventana.

After bfast, we took a walk on the hotel’s trail, which leads to a waterfall.

aaaaand I held an insect!

[While the Pilot was taking the picture, I kept saying “Is it going to bite me? Is it going to bite me?”]

We had fantastic massages and then checked out. It was an amazing stay, and I’m so glad we realized that the Living Social deal expired Monday so it didn’t go to waste 🙂

When we got back to the casa, we munched some caesar salads:

and took a nap. We didn’t get anything done that we planned to this weekend, but hey, that’s what Monday is for, right?

Off to my stepdad’s bday dinner! See ya in the morning <3

Ahhh looks like such a relaxing day! I love breakfast buffets and how awesome that they had gluten-free muffins! Sheesh, I need to move out of the backwoods already! Love the falls, glad you two had an awesome time 🙂

So glad you guys had a great get-away! The Loew’s family of resorts are just….beautiful!

When we first decided we were going to move to San Diego, we flew out here and stayed at the Loew’s on Coronado Island. If San Diego in general + Coronado + Loew’s wouldn’t make someone want to move here, nothing would! It was truly a magical stay and I loved it and every now and then we go back just to walk the grounds and “remember when…” They also have a STELLAR buffet at this one here, too.

Gosh that place looks gorgeous! Something I do realize though about places like that…Not many vegetarian friendly meal options…It’s so hard going out to eat sometimes because they’ll only have like one option for a vegetarian that doesn’t even sound good lol.

  14. Nikki @ The Legalista on September 11, 2011 at 11:12 pm

Awe I’m glad you guys are having a fantastic staycation! They’re so relaxing 🙂

That turkey hash looks awesome! How original! I’ve never seen that at a restaurant before. I’m ridiculously jealous of your bfast this a.m. Is it morning yet?!

  15. Laury on September 11, 2011 at 11:22 pm

ok…so when we were in the UK doing clinical rotations (where me and the bf met), he swooned by for valentines day and took me to this little town called christchurch (totally cute place!), but the best part besides having him with me, was this amazing seafood brunch!!! it just reminded me of that seafood brunch in ur pic!

The bowls are awesome! I’ll definitely be checking Kohl’s out to see if I can still track some down. So cool!

You are way more brave than I am when it comes to insects. Yikes! Cool picture though!

  20. Anna @ The Guiltless Life on September 12, 2011 at 12:58 am

I love how the timing of this trip worked out so well for you! When I get vouchers I try and call when I feel like a weekend away or that massage I bought and they always seem to be so booked up from the deal, so well done on the timing!
Impressive that they have gluten-free treats too. Hope you had a super relaxing trip!

Haha! I can imagine myself saying that about a biting insect!

  22. janiek on September 12, 2011 at 7:26 am

Goats cheese omelet, it’s as if they knew you were coming!

  23. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on September 12, 2011 at 7:42 am

Bfast looks so good! And I like that it came with a bowl of GOOD fruit. I hate when they just give you a tiny bowl with a few melon slices in it or something. 😛

  24. Hillary on September 12, 2011 at 8:34 am

Oh, dear—I need a weekend getaway ASAP after reading this!

  25. Di on September 12, 2011 at 8:37 am

  26. Jin @ Health Ninja on September 12, 2011 at 9:35 am

so sad you two already had breakfast and missed the unbelievably delish looking seafood brunch!
but it really seems like a place to visit again – the waterfalls are beautiful.

  28. Sarah on September 12, 2011 at 10:24 am

That looks like such a fun staycation! I love short trips like that where you can just unplug and focus on catching up with each other! We took one for our anniversary last month, and even one night out of town was so refreshing!

  29. Jen on September 12, 2011 at 11:04 am

Did you make the croutons out of brown rice bread? It looks like it! If so, what an awesome idea! I love that bread.

    Hi Gina,
I have a reader’s request! Not sure if you’ve covered this before, and if so, could you point me to it? Looking for tips on creating a “fitness resume,” and also any tips on applying for jobs in the fitness industry. I am recently certified and starting to look for jobs in health clubs, however my resume is all business oriented!
Any help is so very much appreciated. Those sweet potatoes cut to my core, btw. Philly says hi! -Erica
