salsa sundays

Hi friends! How was the weekend? Hope that you enjoyed some relaxing, productivity, and time with family/friends <— necessary components of a great weekend <3

We have loved having the man of the house back home, and hopped back into our usual weekend rituals like errand day, donut Saturday and gym time.

Friday night, the Pilot was pretty exhausted after his trip, so I took the girls so he could sneak in a nap. We had an awesome picnic at Liberty Station. Liv had Five Guys, P had a pouch and Tender Greens zucchini, and I had some tomato soup. I’m not sure what happened, but we’ve automatically jumped into fall over here. The weather has been absolutely dreamy, and I want to spend as much time outside as possible before we have to switch the clocks back and it gets dark so early.

Picnic

(My picnic buddies! Shout out to Elise and her fam who are visiting San Diego and stopped to say hi! I loved chatting with you.)

Some more pics from the weekend:

The Pilot and I were able to enjoy a little day date together, and grabbed drinks and appetizers at The LOT.

We enjoyed fresh ceviche with THE BEST Tajin-spiced chips:

and shared the cheese board. Always the cheese board.

(Said cheeses are hiding behind the bread)

We usually just go to the LOT to watch a movie, or grab a drink and chill, so we were not expecting the supreme people-watching we received. Turns out, we got there just in time for Salsa Sunday; Latin music was bumpin’ and the Point Loma crowd was out there shimmying and hip-shaking their hearts out. It was so much fun to watch, and there were so many couples that were SO good. We’ll definitely be back and ready to dance. 🙂

When the Pilot first left for his work trip, I did an awesome job of cooking meals at home… initially. Then it all went out the window. We had 3 delicious homemade dinners, and then take-out for 3 straight nights in a row. #survivalmode

I want to get better about prepping P’s meals in advance -it’s a lot of chopping- so I can just put it on her tray and start the rest of dinner. I love making her little baby bites -we do a combo of baby led weaning + purees, just like we did with Liv- but I find that it’s hard for me to get the rest of dinner made before she’s *over* being in the high chair. It’s my goal to be more efficient with prepping in general.

Liv is usually great about playing dolls or coloring while I cook, and is also an excellent helper in the kitchen. Yesterday afternoon, we made a cauliflower crust pizza since I had some bags of the riced cauliflower in the fridge to use.

Pro tip: cat ears make the food taste better. 😉

We used Tina’s recipe and it turned out so well! I’m excited to have the leftovers with lunch this week.

This morning, we’re relaxing here at home -I can’t believe Liv is back to preschool next week!- and going on an adventure, whether we head to the zoo or the bay.

Hope you have a happy Monday and I’ll see ya soon with an all-new workout!
xoxo

Despite how many people I’ve heard talk about it, I have yet to try cauliflower pizza crust! We just roasted a head of cauliflower this weekend too… maybe the next head will be dedicated to crust 😉

I actually did a pretty hard HIIT workout yesterday that Jessie James Decker posted on her YouTube channel… I was not expecting the sweat factor after doing it 3x through!

This weekend was spent with a LOT of kitchen time which I loved… 2 large zucchini called for some zucchini bread, so I made 3 loaves – 1 for now, 2 for the freezer. The 1 for now is already almost gone… due to thieves in the night, I’m pretty sure.

yeah, you’ll have to give it a try! i really love it
i’ll have to check out those HIIT workouts, too!
and zucchini bread disappears the same way around here…

I LOVE cauliflower crust pizza – so does my pizzeria owning husband, and my 8 year old daughter who refuses most vegetables – so we make it pretty often at our house 🙂
I am just wrapping up the 20 in 30 Jillfit challenge for August – and it kicked my butt in the best way possible – 20minute workouts that make me sweat profusely almost every day – the best kind of workouts 😉
Glad you had such a great weekend too.

no way! that’s amazing. tom will tolerate it, and liv likes the idea, but when it’s time to eat it, she’ll only have a couple of bites
i’ll have to check out those workouts! they sound awesome

I actually just recently had a recipe for my cauliflower pizza crust on my blog and it was DELICIOUS! I had to trial it with my husband who is an amateur pizza critic, but I think that it might be his new favorite!

Your Snaps about Salsa Sundays were awesome. That looks like such a great time! My husband was out of town last night, so I enjoyed a wine facetime date to catch up with a good friend I haven’t seen in a while. It worked out so well, and I’ll definitely be planning more of those catch ups in the future. It’s the simple things, right?

Do you have a post describing how you use Baby Led Weaning as well as purees? We are getting ready to start that journey and I am not sure where to even begin!

    • Fitnessista on August 29, 2016 at 11:23 am

no, but i can definitely write one! 🙂
i’d start with purees until the baby gets the hang of chewing and swallowing and then add in some soft bites

Wow your pizza looks awesome. Such an adorable helper you have. Cat ears make everything better.

Some days I have a difficult time getting dinner made too. I only put little in her high chair at dinner when we all eat since she hates being restrained. I normally can count on 20 to 30 minute of active prep time before little gets fed up with playing in the kitchen. Oh well. Fast recipes over here please!

    • Fitnessista on August 30, 2016 at 12:16 pm

same! if it’s 15 minutes, i’m a fan. otherwise, it’s kind of impossible

One workout – free yoga at Lululemon with my bestie on Saturday morning

One delicious thing – Taco pinwheels that I made for a neighborhood party on Friday night. I found the recipe on Pinterest and it was a hit…cream cheese mixed with taco seasoning, tomatoes, green chilies, cheese, green onions and shredded chicken rolled up in tortillas and then sliced to look like pinwheels. YUMMY

What a great weekend! Thanks for the shout out – again, it was such a pleasure to meet you! We tried out the Taco Stand and Mimmo’s and spent the days at Mission Beach and Old Town. San Diego is absolutely beautiful, you’re so lucky to have gotten to call it home. I actually did your “split it up” Pinterest workout at the hotel, I was happily dripping in sweat.

yay, so happy to hear! glad you enjoyed the rest of your trip, too <3 thanks again for saying hi! 🙂

One delicious thing: Jenny Craig Triple Chocolate Cheesecake! I get to eat it every night and it’s delicious!

LOVE cauliflower anything… but the process to “rice” it always is a huge flop. The food processor over processes and I’ll always end up with a bit that is like cauliflower mash. And grating ends up with a cauliflower decked floor – LOL! Definitely miss Trader Joe’s where I am 🙁 Looks delish – hope to try it once I get my cauliflower prep up to par haha
