See Ya, Motor

Hey guys! Hope you’re having a beautiful Sunday 🙂 I loved reading your favorite “kid” movies! To those of ya’ll who asked about my sandals- they’re from Victoria’s Secret. A friend ordered them and they didn’t fit, so she was so kind to gift them to me 🙂

This post is going to be fast and furious because the sound coming out of my computer right now is truly horrifying. It sounds kind of like a coffee grinder- we think the motor is dying. So this will be my last post on Pinkie until the Geek Squad returns it to me.

While we’re at Best Buy, we’re going to pick up a netbook that I can use for the next week and a half or so. Does anyone have one? Brand recommendations for me?? 🙂

My bfast this morning was a chocolate-strawberry protein smoothie with 1/3 C rolled oats mixed in (Note: Oats aren’t raw—they’re cooked during processing)

smoothie

The pilot’s:

pilot's

He munched a smoked salmon, arugula and feta 3-egg omelet with 2 slices of millet bread

We spent the morning being lazy and watching Hook (lurve) and he went into work while I hopped on the spin bike for a magazine-reading sesh 😀

Now we’re off to Best Buy… hopefully I see ya soon from a new netbook!

*Le sigh* Computer probs are no picnic.

Enjoy your day!

G$

I have to show ya’ll this pic that I took of the water tower behind the movie theatre last night…

haha

I am currently typing on an Asus EeePc 1000HA that I have had for a year and I love it to pieces. Definitely go for an Asus, they are really good little machines and I imagine that the versions they have come out with since mine are even better. Love. <3

Ahh! Scary computer situation. My Mac crashed two days ago. I had to call Apple and a nice old lady taught me some fancy key codes to raise it from the dead. . . I didn’t know that oats weren’t technically raw, thanks for that tid-bit. 🙂 I hope your computer doesn’t cause you a lot of trouble!

Hope you get computer problems sorted!

    Good Luck!

Do yourself a favor and get yourself a MACBOOK PRO. Your life will change once you go APPLE. They are expensive but so worth it.

    • GirlonRaw on July 11, 2010 at 4:21 pm

AGREED! I have had to replace my PC laptops (including an EEE PC which died after 1 year) almost every 18 months. I love my macbook pro.

      • Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on July 11, 2010 at 6:04 pm

I third this! After a good run with a Sony Vaio laptop, and then a horrible run w/ a Sony desktop, an HP, and a Dell, I finally bit the bullet and went MAC 2 yrs ago. And in the process, Scott went MAC and transitioned his entire business of 25 years over to MAC and all his employees. This was a man who would never “be a MAC guy”. Seriously girl, it’s wellllll!!! worth it once you just take the plunge. And there will be soo little learning curve, really, if you can already PC, you can already MAC 🙂

Good luck and I know that computer probs suck. only thing worse is Blog tech issue glitches, too!

        Fingers crossed for you!
        xoxo

4th rec for macbook pro’s. No pc can touch a mac IMO.

Wow you really hate Valdosta! Bloom where you’re planted girl! You certainly won’t be there forever!

  9. Emma on July 11, 2010 at 4:49 pm

I hate it when my computer dies! We are so (probably overly) dependent on them, I feel lost without mine! 😉

  10. a on July 11, 2010 at 4:55 pm

I have an HP Mini and I love it. Definately steer clear of the Epc’s as they are very very cheaply made. They give them away at banks when you get a new account.

    • Carrie on July 11, 2010 at 10:50 pm

Maybe the older versions, but mine (1000 HA) is well built and I have never had an issue with it at 1 year old now. Of course personal experience always rules, but it is no worse than a majority of full-sized computers on the market.

  11. Jessica @ Jessica Balances on July 11, 2010 at 5:05 pm

Good luck with your computer issues! I dealt with some serious PC problems last fall/winter and it was no fun. I’m actually looking to buy a new computer soon… I’m thinking about a mac?! I don’t know, though, bc they are super expensive.

  12. Alycia @ Fit n Fresh on July 11, 2010 at 5:07 pm

Oh no! I hate computer woes! I have a netbook, but I don’t really blog from it that often unless I need to. Macs are expensive – but they are totally worth the money!

  13. Dynamics on July 11, 2010 at 5:20 pm

DO NOT GET A TOSHIBA. My laptop did not last. The memory went out which is attached to the mother board which I am told will cost more than the laptop is worth. Next time I will be buying an HP!! Their customer service and tech support is awesome.

  14. Teri [a foodie stays fit] on July 11, 2010 at 5:23 pm

I’ve been wanting a netbook too so you’ll have to tell us how yours turns out!

  15. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on July 11, 2010 at 5:35 pm

Good luck with the computer probs. Those are my worst fear!

  16. Kathryn on July 11, 2010 at 5:36 pm

We have an HP and its decent (great for a netbook but we tried to use it as a real comp for a few months and that didnt work so well)

just make sure to get one that has a close to full-size keyboard 🙂

    good luck!!!

  17. Karyn on July 11, 2010 at 5:45 pm

omg i have that same computer and it’s making that same noise! any advice as to what i should do? i’ve been currently ignoring the problem and hoping it goes away…

  18. Mara @ What's For Dinner? on July 11, 2010 at 5:52 pm

We have a lenovo netbook that was like, $300. It’s tiny, but works. I agree with the whole “go MAC” thing. I love mine and NEVER have any probs!

  19. Rosey Rebecca on July 11, 2010 at 5:57 pm

Good luck with your computer. I hate comp. probs. My bf is a comp. science major so he usually fixes mine for me. I’ve thought about getting a Macbook but the bf is a 100% pc type of guy and wouldn’t fix it for me if I did.

  20. LisaG on July 11, 2010 at 5:58 pm

    I’ll have the pilots omelet-mmm!

    • LisaG on July 11, 2010 at 6:23 pm

Oh & sj has an hp laptop w/ no probs.

  21. Jenn on July 11, 2010 at 5:59 pm

DELL! I have a Dell netbook that’s awesome. I’d advise against going with a Mac. They’re all hype, and oversimplified. Never had a single problem with a Dell.

I have this little darling in white:

    Good luck!

  22. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on July 11, 2010 at 6:06 pm

I already replied in the thread above underneath sweet Robyn, but I love my MAC and after tons of issues with PCs, finally made the switch and couldn’t be happier. For those who say they are all hype, to each her own 🙂 I love mine.

  23. Liz @ Tip Top Shape on July 11, 2010 at 6:13 pm

Hook is such a cute movie!!

I am intrigued by that millet bread the pilot was having. I know you have posted it on here a bunch and it has kind of taken over the blog world. Where do you get it?

  24. Heather on July 11, 2010 at 6:37 pm

I have a Lenovo netbook, which I LOVE!! Dells are good too, plus you can get pretty much any color you want.

  27. Katherine on July 11, 2010 at 7:04 pm

I have a trojan on my laptop right now so I have to use my desktop 🙁 it’s big and bulky! I know acers are cheap but I don’t know if they’re quality

  28. kaila on July 11, 2010 at 7:36 pm

i have a dell mini netbook! it is awesome and so convenient…perfect for toting around from place to place.

  29. suzanne on July 11, 2010 at 7:39 pm

I have an acer aspire it’s not my main computer but it’s great for toting around and staying on top of things.

  30. Lesley on July 11, 2010 at 7:43 pm

gina, do you know what is wrong with your computer exactly? I also had a Sony VAIO and the motor was making this awful crackly sound…turns out it is a common problem with Sony Vaios (the best buy guys couldn’t figure it out), and Sony people came to my house and fixed my computer for free! I would definitely check the Sony Website to see if you have the same problem and if they can fix it.

    • Fitnessista on July 11, 2010 at 9:16 pm

good to know, thank you! it was the motor, but the geek squad took and i get it back in 2 weeks 🙂

  32. Ellen@FirednFabulous on July 11, 2010 at 7:59 pm

  34. Suzi on July 11, 2010 at 8:35 pm

i’ve got a cute little acer aspire one that I got in January and haven’t had a single issue with it. I love it to bits and tend to use it way more than my desktop.

  35. Cara on July 11, 2010 at 8:39 pm

Computers can be such a blessing and a headache all at the same time!
Hopefully you had luck finding a new one.

  36. Ann on July 11, 2010 at 8:41 pm

I know a lot of people who have Acers. It seems like a pretty popular choice. I think it’ll be good for just basic uses, but I feel like my fingers could never fully figure out the minimizing and maximizing function!

  37. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on July 11, 2010 at 10:01 pm

Computer troubles are the pits! My laptop has been giving me problems for the past year. I hope your laptop is able to be fixed!

I love Hook! Except I just started liking it more recently because it used to scare me as a kid! 😛

  38. Katie on July 11, 2010 at 10:05 pm

eep to the computer problems — definitely no bueno! i hope everything turns out ok!

i have a question i know you’ve answered a zillion times, but i’m having trouble finding the posts where you talked about it so here goes — i’m traveling to chicago for a couple of weeks in august and i’m wondering what healthy foods/snacks you’d recommend that travel well? Larabars, bfast cookies (yum!), and the vega protein powder are definitely on the list! I’m roadtripping with some triple cheeseburger loving guys (to each their own!) and i’m hoping to stockpile some nifty supplies in case i get stuck at fast food, USA. thanks! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on July 12, 2010 at 8:31 am

i also bring oatmeal in a baggie, protein powder, tea, stevia, bananas, dried fruit and veggies 🙂

  39. Roro on July 11, 2010 at 11:56 pm

Sony just had recall on the same laptop so you should check that!!!! I was going to get it but I show on the news the other day

  40. Gillbert on July 12, 2010 at 5:48 am

My favourite brand is Acer. My laptop is Acer and it’s a fast lil guy that gives me no trouble and even survived/ran perfectly fine after it was dropped going through security at the airport. It had a chip on a corner but it was purely a cosmetic thing. Maybe check out consumer reports cause even great brands can produce lemons:)

  41. Jenny on July 12, 2010 at 6:45 am

I love (well–luv!) your blog and have been reading for some time now. I have a quick question–most sources talk about weight loss, not gain. I am in the process of trying to gain weight after losing about 10 lbs thanks to a half marathon and major STRESS (and therefore poor eating) at work. Any suggestions on gaining while eating healthy and trying to build muscle back (lost most with all the running). Thanks!!

    • Fitnessista on July 12, 2010 at 8:28 am

      strength training + extra calories
try adding in a smoothie each day on top of your normal intake. put it in the fridge and sip on it during the day and make sure it’s gone by the time you go to bed 🙂

    hahaha.. the water tower.. nice!
i have a dell, and only had to replace mine when it got stolen last year.. i love it.. it does get slow time to time, but i think that has more to do with the fact that i have a million pictures on it and work docs..

  45. Genny on July 12, 2010 at 9:53 am

I have a Sony VAIO and it was always making loud noises (like a car revving up). Mine was under warranty so I sent it in to Sony to get it fixed. When I got it back, it was in perfect condition – no more loud noises! If yours is under warranty, maybe you can do the same! Just a tip! Thanks.

  47. Dee on July 12, 2010 at 2:50 pm

Unrealized ooportunity in your opinion, right? LOL. I will soon have to be in your position, making the best of an un-ideal location. I have to move to Sacramento, and its good to have a job, but I miss the lively Bay Area already and I haven’t even left yet.

Sacramento= my Valdosta. 🙁 I’ll be looking to your blog posts for inspiration!

    http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-NC10-11GP-10-2-Inch-Pink-Netbook/dp/B001QV9I78

I would highly recommend it. The 6-cell battery lasts for DAYS! And the keyboard is sooo luxurious and large for a netbook. It really makes typing smooth and comfortable. Luv it!

    Hope this helps!

For some reason I missed this post and ironically my laptop monitor just went out on me. I thought my laptop was dead, but it was just the screen and when I hooked it up to an external monitor it was fine. New one on the way. It’s our 3rd Dell. My husband has one and my daughter has one. The one dying is a Gateway, but it has lasted over 5 years which is what is expected of laptop in my mind. My laptop is my livelihood – as a web developer – I use lots of high memory graphic programs. Both Dell and Gateway have served me well.
