Similar Dragons

Hi guys! Happy Monday- hope your day is going well 😀 Thank you for your amazing Sunday comments. I loved reading them on the way back to Valdizzy 😀

As you guys know, the pilot and I both have a horrendous terrible cold/virus/something or other. Some people lose their appetites when they’re sick… it takes a lot for us to lose our appetites 🙂

hot bar

We made a stop for hot bar on the way home from Atlanta.

hot bar (2)

I loaded my container up

hot bar (3)

With

-wheatberry salad

-sesame quinoa

-dal and spinach curry

-vegan mac n’ cheese (with a nutritional yeast sauce!)

-kale + carrots

with Indian spiced soup on the side 🙂

The drive back to V-town was easy –I was a good sport and drove half the way!- and then we stopped to pick up this little monkey.

And this little monkey:

vies

I missed them so much!

You’ll never believe what we braved to fight this cold/virus/whatever….

garlic

We each an ENTIRE thing (head?) of roasted garlic.

When I tweeted out the call for get-well solutions, I got a lot of advice to eat garlic. It’s very antibacterial and a great source of antioxidants, so we decided to give it a whirl.

I LOVE garlic, but this was a little hardcore. We were similar dragons last night 😀

Other things we’re been doing:

LOTS of Emergen-C

emergen-c

(If you use less water, it tastes better- so we always use little espresso cups)

Sleeeeeeeeeep + Fluids

Fiery Goji Smoothies for B-fast

goji

-1.5 C almond milk

-1 banana

-1 scoop Vanilla Sun Warrior

-1 T goji berries, soaked overnight in water (for antioxidants)

-1/8-1/4 t cayenne pepper (great cold remedy – helps congestion and sore throats)

Blend up in the Vita-Mixalicious and slurp happily with a glass straw 🙂

I’m off to pack the pilot some lonchi –he’s still going in to work, poor guy- and am going to start cleaning the vacation tornado 😀

See ya this afternoon with some Zumba stuff and a final re-cap of this past weekend’s fitness conference.

Have a great day!

xoxo,

Gina

Something to talk about: What do you do when you’re feeling under the weather?? Anyone else fighting the sickies right now?

Kevin just recovered from a pretty bad bug. He went to the doc who told him that he had a virus. He experienced random aches and pains in his back, sore throat, headache, sneezing, and the need to nap randomly. He would be up doing something then HAVE to sleep at that moment. He didn’t leave the apt for a week! Some things that got him through included plenty of vitamin C, tylenol for the aches & pains plus Wellness Formula made by Source Naturals. It is a herbal defense complex that kicks whatever you have. I take 1 everyday to keep my immune system strong. He took 3, two times daily to fight his virus.

Hope you feel better soon. I know you don’t eat chicken, but I made Kevin homemade chicken soup, which helped soothe his throat and break up congestion. Maybe it would benefit the Pilot?

Oh you’re brave eating a whole head of garlic. I would have gone the ginger route myself. I really like the goji smoothie. I might have to try that sometime soon.

I also rarely lose my appetite! When I’m feeling crappy though I also am big on the Emergen-C. I think it works wonders!

Growing up we were always told to drink lots of apple juice. Maybe something behind the whole “an apple a day keeps the doctor away?” notion?

I also swear by Emergen-C any time I start to feel the tickle in my throat and a bit worn down. I also really like using the neti pot to keep things clean!

Hope you guys feel better! Bella is so cute! My bichon rides that way with me in the car – lots of looks from other drivers!

    EmergenC rocks!

Feel Better!!!! Oh, and, TOTALLY FEED THE COLD, girlie 😉

you starve the flu…but you gotta feed the cold..I am munchie when I have a cold, although it’s been a while (knock on wood)

My kitty cat keeps sneezing and sniffling..I may need to get him some Emergen-C

When I feel under the weather I always make my mom’s cabbage soup. I can remember her making it every time I got sick as a kid, and it always makes me feel better. That, lots of sleep, and plenty of fluids help make me better in no time. Hope you feel better soon!

  12. Hayley on August 2, 2010 at 5:38 pm

Haha, I’ve done the garlic thing while sick. I remember eating two cloves totally raw. It made my whole mouth sting!

  13. Carrie on August 2, 2010 at 6:14 pm

I always consume massive amounts of Emergen-C, leafy greens, water, Airborne (I swear it’s better than Emergen-C), and positive thoughts (laughter *is* the best medicine). Oh and obsessively washing my hands, but I kind of do that anyway.

Hi Miss Gina, sorry you and your Pilot are under the weather… 🙁
All that healthy hot bar should help!!!

Roasted garlic is awesome, extra virgin olive oil, you gotta have some Triscuits or Mary’s Crack, and you can use it as a spread if you roast it to a good smooth stickiness. Squeeze the cloves out, mash, and spread away (you probably knew that.).

I tend to turn to rest, fluids, rest, Emergen-C (Raspberry only…and why is it so EXPENSIVE???? Justifying that to the hubs was not fun), and more rest. I hope you guys feel better soon!!!!

I just love your dogs! What breeds are they?

    Get well soon!
