Sludge family

Hey guys! It’s almost the weekend!!! Yeahhhhhh 😀 Hope your morning is going well so far.

I woke up late and hit up the gym for an hour treadmill sesh. Nice walk at 4.2 mph with 2.5% incline reading Fitness and Rizzle (aka Rachael Ray) mags. It was glorious 😀

When I got back to the casa, I made a sludge using almond milk, frozen nanner, half a container of organic spinach, sprinkle of sea salt, 1 ts spirulina and 1 packet of Stevia.

It was very exciting to break out the glass straws I bought at 105degrees.

003

Makes smoothies so swanky wanky 😀

I took the glass over to the pilot and offered him a sip- he LOVED it and asked if he could have a small glass. So I made him one, he gulped it down happily and then I informed him that there was seaweed in there 😉 I told him spirulina is a great source of chlorophyll to which he responded, “Chlorophyll?? More like BORE-ophyll”. Guys. 😀

Kale chips were a success!!

007

Crispy cheesy deliciousness.

One for the bag, one for my face.

010

Along with other road trip snacks: Larabar and an apple.

I was planning on heading up to Orlando early, but my aunt and cousins won’t be home until tonight. So instead of making dinner –it will be kinda late- I’m just going to pick up some Whole Foods goodies 😀

See ya in Orlando with BELLA!!!! Ahhh I can’t wait to see her little furry face.

Something to think: About taking the pressure away from workouts. While I was on the treadmill (walking) I was thinking about how a couple of years ago I wouldn’t constitute that as a “real” workout and would probably be back there later, doing something super intense. The thing is, I’m now a firm believer that you don’t need to be a workout fanatic to look amazing. You need to work out for health purposes, mental wellbeing and for FUN, but not for the sole purpose of looking good. I’ve found that since I removed the vanity and calorie aspect from working out, I started enjoying it more! So next time you’re at the gym, think: I’m here to take care of my body, my mind and to have fun. That is all 😀

  2. Joanna on October 8, 2009 at 12:34 pm

Good advice on the workouts. I am trying to change my frame of mind to: every little bit helps.

  3. Jocelyn on October 8, 2009 at 12:52 pm

bahahah! “Chlorophyll?? More like BORE-ophyll”. – Isn’t that from Billy Madison. that made me laugh 😛

Your puppy is soooo cute 🙂 I bet you will be so happy to have her back again!

p.s great tip about working out…it just seems like a drag when it is centered around calorie counting and being “thin”.

  4. Diana on October 8, 2009 at 12:56 pm

    Yep, good advice. 🙂

    Aw, Bella is so cute!

That pic of Bella is so sweet! Have a great trip 🙂

I love what you said about workouts and I can attest to that myself. When you change your mindset, the workouts are actually better! Love it.

Rizzle….ha! I want to know you in person so I can be Beth Tizzle.

  8. Stephanie on October 8, 2009 at 1:02 pm

Fabulous “something to think about” girl… I know that I have felt like that numerous times after a “soft workout” and have recently tried to refocus my workouts to health and wellbeing vs. just to look good – wow what a difference 🙂

  9. Sarah @ The Foodie Diaries on October 8, 2009 at 1:12 pm

LOVE ze straw! And so with you on working out. Once you take the pressure off, it becomes so much more enjoyable. And, shocker, you work out more!

    XO

Bella reminds me of my parent’s dog, Laverne. She is really cute. I love dogs that are really fuzzy and have crazy hair!

    • Fitnessista on October 8, 2009 at 1:26 pm

hahah laverne! what a cute name for a dog! bella definitely rocks the crazy hair

  12. Erica on October 8, 2009 at 1:21 pm

Thanks, G for your “something to think.” I really needed that today. Sometimes I get my mindset stuck on run, run, run…even if I don’t feel like it. So thanks and have a safe trip:-)

  13. Erica on October 8, 2009 at 1:24 pm

You must be so excited to be home (and to finaly get your baby back!!). Love Billy Madison…hilarious! Yummy car snacks. Have a safe trip

  15. Felicia on October 8, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Loving the Billy Madison reference! 🙂

Also – quick question, you may have mentioned this before, but is Bella a bichon? I ask because my childhood dog, Pippi (loooved Pippi Longstocking when I was little), was a bichon and Bella looks pretty similar. She is adorable!

    • Fitnessista on October 8, 2009 at 1:33 pm

Bella is a maltipoo- she was my valentine gift from the pilot 3 yrs ago

      • Felicia on October 8, 2009 at 3:36 pm

Aw, what a fantastic gift! Good work by him.

Bella! So cute! I am WITH you on the work out thing. I am much better about that too now. In the past I might have thought that my 2 mile easy runs didn’t “count” because it took me only 20 minutes but eff that! Whatever gets you up, out and about is GOOD. Have a great day sweet pea!

  17. Tay on October 8, 2009 at 2:43 pm

Thank you for that thought! I used to be the same way. 6-7 mile runs everyday! Walking? psh! 2-3 mile runs? Are you kidding me, that’s not exercise? Now though I realize that 20-30 minutes really is all I need to feel my best. Sure I want to go longer and train, but I don’t NEED to.

  18. Nicci@NiftyEats on October 8, 2009 at 2:51 pm

Great Tip Gina, I’m not at my happy weight just yet but I know i’m exercising for health and eating right, so I feel good with my body.

  19. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on October 8, 2009 at 2:56 pm

I just made your pesto (tweaked it though) and spiralized my zukes. That will be dinner tonite. But I think I overdid the lemon juice a bit. I only did half a lemon but dang, it’s lemony. I had to add more spinach to compensate and it’s good, but honestly my little girl was eating it by the spoonful outta the vita. She’s 2.75 yrs. What kid eats raw spinach, walnuts, and basil? I guess one who’s been raised on plants! LOL

Oh and I have made the kale chips courtesy of the Pure Twins and FitnessFreak hookin’ me up with a Matthew K inspired recipe and dang….soooooo good 🙂

    Safe drive, ok!

  20. Ryane on October 8, 2009 at 3:00 pm

REUNITED and it feels so good right! Bella’s sooo cute!

Anyways! I’m sure you’ve answered this before but what kind of spirulizer do you use? Your zucchini looked gorgeous!

  21. Jordan on October 8, 2009 at 3:19 pm

I still kinda feel that way about working out. I wish I didn’t, but maybe it’ll come with time.

  22. Diane on October 8, 2009 at 3:34 pm

Bella is SO cute! I love your “something to think about”. I don’t feel that way about exercise, but I am going to try to. I think it will actually motivate me a little.

Quick question- do you have breakfast before working out? I read somewhere that it’s best to do your cardio right after you wake up with nothing on your stomach because if you eat first you’ll only be burning what you just ate. What are your thoughts?

    Have a safe drive!!

  23. Katie on October 8, 2009 at 3:38 pm

    I love those glass straws!

Get home safe, and have fun with Bella!

  24. Steph on October 8, 2009 at 3:45 pm

Thanks for the ‘something to think’ today…I really needed to hear that!

  25. Sheri on October 8, 2009 at 4:11 pm

Such a cute pic of Bella! Great advice on the workouts…it is so true. It should be fun and no pressure!

Those Kale chips look faboo! I hope you share the recipe soon! 🙂

  26. brittney on October 8, 2009 at 4:29 pm

I just want to say thank you so much for that aside about intensity at the gym. Sometimes I feel like if I can’t do it all the way, I shouldn’t go at all.

Just, thanks for always being so inspiring.

  27. fittingbackin on October 8, 2009 at 4:31 pm

Thanks for the inspiring ideas – love your blog! Lovely pic of Bella, she is such a doll baby! Have fun in Orlando!

Hey there! I am a new reader and a new blogger! I would really love to hear some of your “green monster” recipes! I am looking for new healthy items and I have seen them everywhere – do you know anywhere I can find some good recipes?

    Great blog!!

  29. Mary on October 8, 2009 at 6:36 pm

You burn about the same amount of calories when you move your body a mile whether you sprint, jog or walk. The first two are good for your heart (and endorphin levels) but walking is better for your joints! And maybe your dogs!

I can’t wait for your kale chips recipe. My batch went to the dogs, but they did like them!

Anyone know how much more chlorophyll spirulina has than spinach?

Thanks for the Valdizzy clarification. Now if someone could enlighten me where the izz-latin trend came from, I’d be thrilled!

  30. Kristin (Kristin's Nibbles) on October 8, 2009 at 6:38 pm

I used to be the exact same way with exercise! It is so true, exercise is for HEALTH and WELLBEING, and it should not be hardcore all the time and create obsessions.

Your husband is hilarious! lol I can’t even get mine to taste a green smoothie. Have fun in Orlando.

  36. Erin on October 8, 2009 at 11:56 pm

I SOOO agree with you Gina smart-ina! I used to be such a gym rat and after awhile I realized the only thing I had to show for it was the fact that…I looked like a gym rat! Now that I’ve been switching it up and doing classes, walking, yoga at home, etc., I feel like my motivation is really more based on what it does for making me happy. You know!?
    Hope ya’ll had a safe drive 🙂
P.S. Oh the pilot and his little attitude 🙂 I love it!

    • Fitnessista on October 9, 2009 at 5:19 pm

seriously! it’s just funny because i look pretty much the same whether i work out 30 minutes a day, or 3 hours. so why not just roll with the 30 minutes that i really enjoy?
and yes, the pilot can be quite a sassafrass 😀

  37. Shelby on October 9, 2009 at 6:31 am

Shh don’t tell…but I haven’t worked out in like a week! I’m glad because my body is so exhausted right now from school. I’m also excited to get back into my routine though, exercise feels so good!

    • Fitnessista on October 9, 2009 at 5:17 pm

hey, when you’re tired the best thing to do is rest rather than push yourself at the gym. you’ll get back into it 😀
