Soooo meaty

Anyone else love โ€œThe Soupโ€? ๐Ÿ˜€

Hey everyone! Itโ€™s almost FRIIIIIIIDAY- yayuhhhh! ๐Ÿ˜€ Rumor has is that I might finally be getting my Indian food fix TODAY. I can hardly contain my excitement ๐Ÿ˜€

Pilates and Zumba was AMAZING last night. Ashley is a killer pilates teacher- I thought I was going to throw up while we were doing these crazy leg circle things. My abbies were on fire! Zumba was also a blasty and when I got back to the casa, it was time for a feast.

I was feeling a little carnivorous last nightโ€ฆ this girl wanted MEAT (twss? buahah)

beast

(see the chair with TWO pillows on it?? Thatโ€™s my makeshift desk chair. Apparently Iโ€™m too short to type at the dining room table without a booster. Haha)

The salad beast pictured above had two servings of salmon bites, tomato, onion, spinach, lemon juice, sea salt, pepper and a little extra virgin olive oil.

And an egg puff with one egg + one egg white covered in a Herdez salsa blanket.

eggpuff

Glorious.

So after reading your wonderful comments about my nighttime bloated belly issue. I decided to do what many of you had said: I increased my water intake. Itโ€™s an obvious thing I should have done, and it didnโ€™t even come to mind. This fall, my water intake has gone WAY down since Iโ€™ve been drinking tea for most of the day and I figured I was getting enough with all of the fruits and veggies I eat. Wrong! So with your lovely suggestions, I drank more water last night and poof! bloated belly gone. Fo rizzle. So Iโ€™m going to continue to eat gluten (since yaโ€™ll said I need to stick with my current diet so I donโ€™t skew next weekโ€™s blood test results) and just drink more water in the meantime.

So for bfast, I had a gluten-full meal

oats

1/2 cup oats, 1 banana (half smashed, half sliced), 2 T carob, 1 T maca, vanilla, pinch sea salt, Stevia and almond butter drizzle. Delish.

I went to the gym for a quick training appointment and am back at the casa getting ready to meet some friends to decorate the squadron Christmas tree.

Thereโ€™s a little sumthinโ€™ sumthinโ€™ I wanted to address before I peace out:

Last night, there was some blog scruntiny regarding my workout schedule and a few stated that I work out โ€œtoo muchโ€. For the average Jane, yes it is โ€œtoo muchโ€ and I recommend 30-60 minutes 6 days each week to my clients. However, as a fitness professional, my main job involves working out. The thing is, I love to be active and really just see it as a bonus that I make some dollas for it. Iโ€™m responsible for teaching Zumba โ€“I cut out my step and spin classes because they were โ€œtoo muchโ€ on top of the other things I want to do, like running and yoga"- training clients, and if thereโ€™s an extra class I want to take at the gym, Iโ€™m gonna do it ๐Ÿ˜€ The main thing is, I donโ€™t work out for the calorie burn. I work out for my health, my sanity and for my own personal enjoyment. I just make sure to fuel myself accordingly.

I post *most* of my meals, but not all of them. If I posted all of them you would be seeing a lot of almond butter-covered spoons, handfuls of Maryโ€™s crack, random palms full of nuts, dried fruit, whatever I grab in between training sessions on my way out the door. The meals I do post are complete meals and snacks that I would recommend to others. I just donโ€™t think me showing you a pic of an almond butter covered spoon would be beneficial and itโ€™d be a little OCD for me to photograph every nibble I put into my face.

Also, Iโ€™m definitely NOT saying you need to work out 2-3 hours each day!!! This blog is about finding a fitness and nutrition โ€œhappy placeโ€ for YOU! Find meals you enjoy, workouts you enjoy and I just hope that I can give you some new and fun ideas. That is all.

Well Iโ€™m out like sauerkraut ๐Ÿ˜€

See ya later with a fun readerโ€™s request post!

xoxo,

Gina

You just made my day/week/month/year!! I started reading your blog last month when it was in Women’s Health and have been thinking, “How is it that I eat way more than this chick and work out way less?” I knew I had to be missing something, or else I was crazy! Thank you for the peace of mind and I love the blog!!! “Don’t let the haters keep you from doing your thang!”

  2. Brittany on December 3, 2009 at 5:29 pm

Great idea to drink more water miss Gina. I need to do that myself!!

I absolutely love and enjoy your blog. It has really helped me understand what ‘healthy eating’ is, but more than that what a healthy attitude can do! I love that you are real and if you want something, you’ll have it! You have little restrictions on what you eat and seem eat what you genuinely love and what makes you feel good. As someone struggling with weight, reading your blog helps me remember that the all or nothing attitude will get me no where and if I keep a good attitude and eat what makes me feel good I will feel good! Sure, I have a long way to go, but you help me to remember to enjoy the journey. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for clarifying! I’ve always wondered how someone so active could eat that little…but then still have a strong athletic body. I’m sorry you get criticized because I think you’re a great role model

I loved this post, particularly your breakfast and the last paragraph about documenting everything you eat. I, too, only post my complete meals and proper snacks. Sure, bites of this and that fly into my mouth before I can reach for my camera. But aside from the pain of sloooowly loading each picture onto the blog, it’s also kind of silly to post every nibble. You’re right, we’re all at different levels and the beauty of healthy living blogs is that there are a smorgasboard of fun examples and ways to maintain/gain fitness. Some run, some do yoga, some zumba, some do a little bit of each, etc.

Ignore all the haters….you’re a healthy, happy, beautiful woman…keep doing what makes you happy!!!

Some people are just out to criticize and bring others down– you know what works for you, and you are obviously a seriously healthy, FIT girl! ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, and I LOVE The Soup ๐Ÿ™‚

My husband doesn’t like to watch it with me because I “television flirt” with Joel McHale ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. laura on December 3, 2009 at 8:03 pm

i think maybe your problem is all the fiber that you are eating???

  9. Sarah on December 3, 2009 at 8:38 pm

Gina I absolutely love your blog. You make healthy eating and working out sound fun. I never get the vibe that you are on a diet or watching what you’re eating-I feel like you are just living a healthy lifestyle. And it’s really inspired me to try to live healthily instead of restricting my calories and freaking out if I eat something healthy. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚

LOVE the title! The Soup is another thing that I love about the weekend. How hot is Joel?!

While I wasn’t ever a personal trainer, I was a high level athlete which meant working out almost daily. To the regular Joe-Shmoe that would be a LOT of exercise but since it was basically my job at the time and something I did because I loved it (not to burn calories), it wasn’t that big of a deal in terms of over doing it. Do whatchu gotta do, G$ ๐Ÿ™‚

    Ewwww sauerkraut!!! ๐Ÿ˜› Blech!!!!!

Yes now I really want some Indian food!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

  12. Kelly on December 3, 2009 at 8:55 pm

You are an amazing role model and an inspiration. Stay strong!

  13. Stephanie on December 3, 2009 at 9:14 pm

It’s amazing how critical some people can be. I LOVE your blog and I feel it’s very real and inspiring. It’s easy to tell when someone is just obsessive and restrictive about food or when someone is genuinely leading a healthy lifestyle they believe in.

    Now…I want some Rajma mmmm!

  14. Marissa on December 3, 2009 at 9:25 pm

More power to ya, sista, if you are able to work out 2-3 hours a day! That would be my dream, but, unfortunately, my full time job does not allow that. I think most fitness professionals, like yourself, work out at least that much per day, and I’m sure you all know what is appropriate for your bodies.

  15. Jessica on December 3, 2009 at 9:50 pm

I don’t think you work out too much at all. When I’m on my game, I do 2 hours a day. If I start instructing as I am planning then it will increase for sure. I see nothing wrong with it, and it’s all in what you’re accustomed to doing, your body has ways of telling you when it’s too much ;)and I hate to admit it, but I’ve been there!

  16. TonjaToi on December 3, 2009 at 10:09 pm

I think people who are not training for events or working as fitness professionals do not realize, the people who are consistently training recover so fast from higher heart rates the calorie burn is significantly lower as we become “conditioned” to the intense work outs. To achieve our own fitness goals we have to up our game along the way and it likely does seem like too much to people who are not in training.
Clearly your body isn’t breaking down on you and you never seem to be sick. You must be doing something right!!!

Glad to hear I’m not the only one who enjoys almond butter a la spoon ๐Ÿ™‚ In fact, other than making your almond butter cookies (which get a big thumbs up from everyone who’s tried them) I think the only time I eat it is by the spoonful! Actually, I think an almond butter-covered spoon deserves some exposure. It’s the way it tastes best! Unless you count on the end of a finger ๐Ÿ™‚

I went to my first Zumba class the other day. I’m hoping I’ll get better with practice :S Lots of fun though and a great example of doing things because you want to, not for the calorie burn ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello, big fan here. You’re very inspiring to me, I always check if you have a new post & it’s so exciting to see you have a couple in 1 day=) I have a question, do u know if baigan bhartha is fattening? I tried it the other day (cuz u rave about it so much), and it was yummy, but is there a lot of oil in it? Do u finish the while thing by yourself?

    • Fitnessista on December 4, 2009 at 8:32 am

at our restaurant here, they don’t use a ton of oil… and yes, i finish the whole thing by myself ๐Ÿ™‚

Hey Gina, I stumbled across your site through a xanga (blogging) site and after reading a bit, I’m pretttty sure that wasnt your xanga.
http://brokenangel125.xanga.com/ is the journal and the girl is posting your pictures as her own and some of your blog posts as her own. Her site is full of “thinspo” and ED-related posts that I know you would never promote EVER. I left her a comment but she deleted it. since i think you have to register to see her site, i took screencaps.
i hope you can get this sorted out :/ i would hate for people to come to your site thinking its a pro-ED one that the girl is making it out to be.
    here are some screen caps
    http://i48.tinypic.com/167l35x.jpg
    http://i49.tinypic.com/fd4p4n.jpg
her website has a tonn more of your pics and some of your quotes about losing weight, plus pictures of scary thin models. i thought you should know :/

    • Fitnessista on December 4, 2009 at 8:25 am

oh jen… thank you for letting me know.
the screen caps worked and i’m a little horrified right now.
i sent her an email asking her to remove the pictures, quotes and recipes that she has taken from my blog

Very creepy about the blog stealing your photos! I had a weird instance where a girl in Asia added me on facebook, and then changed her blog name to ‘Confessions of a Young Woman’, which is my blog name…it was totally bizarre.

Your salad beast looks delightful!! I need to get my hands on some good wild salmon!

  21. Shelly on December 4, 2009 at 9:54 am

    Gina,
I dusted off my old Xanga subscription and am trying to friend her, so if she friends me back, I will check for you to make sure she takes that stuff off her blog.

    • Fitnessista on December 4, 2009 at 9:57 am

      wonderful- thank you

  22. brittany on December 4, 2009 at 10:17 am

You have totally inspired me in so many ways! You’ve made eating raw and vegan foods seem so easy that I am gradually getting away from animal products!(except shrimpies, I love them too!) You also inspire me to work out more but I know I could never do more than one hour a day!

  23. Becky on December 4, 2009 at 10:58 am

    Oh Gina!!! *hugs*

I absolutely love your blog. You are my girl crush. ๐Ÿ™‚ (Don’t worry I am marrying a wonderful man in March and adore/love him madly so I won’t be stalking you any time soon, just your blog. ๐Ÿ˜‰ )I happened across it through another blog and I became addicted. I for one love your balance and I never really noticed that the food you do picture is not much in comparison to your active lifestyle. I guess I read so many healthy living blogs and have seen bloggers write that they do not picture every morsel that passes their lips, I understood it was the same for you. Sometimes people make uninformed comments. I say you listen to us that sing your praises. LOL As many have said above, you are an inspiration and you really make it look like its possible to someone trying to live a healthier lifestlye. I love that you have your own style of eating…not committing completely to raw, still eating shrimpies while mostly vegan, etc. It shows that we don’t have to put ourselves in a “category”. What I take from your posts are ideas, inspirations, tips and some laughs. Thank you so much for dedicating so much of your time to your blog.
