Speed Eaters Anonymous

Hey friends! How was your day?

Mine was loooooonnnggg (the 5pm weights shift is a doozy) but very bueno 🙂 I tested out the first week’s workout for Summer Shape Up 2011 on my lunch break! Very serious biznazz…

[Side note: that headband was hurting my brain ALL day, but once you commit to a headband, you can’t take it off without your hair looking funny.]

The best part about the day?

This was waiting for me to get home:

The Pilot got takeout on his way home and it was glorious.

+ socca!

socca

It’s been wayyyyy too long since I’ve had socca. I kind of got burnt out on it during the detox since I was eating it so often, but I was ready to bring it back in place of naan tonight 🙂

I cooked up the socca in some ghee

ghee

(few things in the world smell as awesome as melting butter)

and ended up sharing half of it with Bella. She LOVED it! I knew she’d go crazy for socca since she’s garbanzo obsessed 😉

As delicious as my meal was, I ate the entire thing in 9 minutes! I am a notorious speed eater. It’s probably because I am always 100% in some kind of hurry, so I stuff my face as quickly as possible, usually while doing 2 or 3 other things and continue the day. It bums me out because I really love food, and at the end of the meal, I realize that I didn’t savor or enjoy it as much as I could have. I think to myself “wow, that was really good. And it’s over already.” On dates with the Pilot, I’m pretty good about slowing down, but on an everyday basis, it’s something I’m going to be more mindful of.

Anyone other speed eaters out there?

Well we’re off to my little bro’s baseball game 😀 It’s a beautiful night.

Enjoy your evening and I’ll see ya tomorrow with a reader’s request!

Something to do:

If you make a minimum $10 donation to Caitlin’s neighbor’s cause, please indicate it in your comment below (you can say “I donated” or whatever you’d like) and I’ll be picking someone from the comments on Friday morning (and Caitlin will match it up from the donations for me) to send some macaroons and a Whole Foods goodie package to 🙂

    I donated $20 🙂 Tonya’s an amazing woman, I couldn’t help but give.

MMM, socca! Thanks for the reminder I see a dinner of socca and kale chips in my near future.
I donated through Caitlin’s blog. Such a horrible thing but I am glad to be able to do something small to help.

I used to eb a notorious speed eater but I’ve since slowed it down. I notice when I eat fast I end up eating way more than I need. Oh and ghee. I love ghee!! I actually made my own, it’s SO easy I can’t see spending big $$ for it in Whole Foods. You just heat and simmer organic butter (I believe it was unsalted) and it’ll start to foam, after it cooks for a few minutes without burning you sift through a sieve and it separates! An added bonus is that your house will smell like crossiants for the rest of the day!

I donated $40! We all should forward the message also, I’ve tweeted and posted on my facebook, others will be touched by her story and help her out. Also on Caitlin’s blog I saw that Tonya is going to have a biopsy done tomorrow and is asking for prayers. She’s a Christian and although I don’t pray much I’ll definitely bow my head and send out a little prayer for her.

    I donated $40!

    I donated 🙂

I, too, am a speed eater and have been my whole life. My boyfriend is even faster than I am, so when I eat with him the food is gone before I know it.

  6. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on June 2, 2011 at 11:58 am

I’m a speed eater too if I have nothing to distract me! That’s why I like reading blogs when I eat because I’m forced to take breaks when I comment! 😛

I’m a major speed-eater! Of course, I’m also the queen of the 10-minute meal, so I try and at least eat for at long as it took me to make. =) I’m usually pretty hungry and always in a hurry, so I think those my major speed-eating culprits. My husband says he can tell when I’m hungry because I don’t talk, just “eat on a mission”. Ha ha ha.

  8. Laura @ prettylittlewords on June 2, 2011 at 12:11 pm

I am a big time speed eater as well. I’m always starving!

  9. Heather on June 2, 2011 at 12:19 pm

  10. Michelle on June 2, 2011 at 12:46 pm

I am the worlds fastest eater! I have two younger brothers — if you didn’t eat fast, you didn’t get seconds!

I donated on Tuesday and shared the link. It just really breaks me heart!

    I donated:)

Have you tried yogitoes brand headbands…they’re pretty much amazing and cost $3! No headaches ever!

  12. Lauren @ Sassy Molassy on June 2, 2011 at 1:46 pm

I just donated $15 to Tonya’s fun. Crazy, sad, inspiring story.

I have a lulu headband that doesn’t stay on very well and gives my head a little achy ache. I’d like to try other options though that are cute and work (like sweaty bands or something).

I am a regular reader but never commented before. I donated to her cause and thank you for reminding me because I saw this on Caitlin’s blog but had not yet donated. Wishing her the best!

I agree 100% with the headband comment. I like them but hate when i get headaches from them! and then you have to leave it on until you get home! UGH but we still continue to wear them again.. 😛

I donated 20 dollars to Tonya

  24. Ashley K on June 2, 2011 at 9:42 pm

I am definitely a speed eater, worse when I eat in front of the tv! I try to be more mindful when I’m eating, but it’s tough. The worst is when I scarf down desserts, never satisfying!

I just donated $15 for Tonya’s cause! That is really sweet of you to offer ‘roons!! 🙂

  25. Laura on June 2, 2011 at 10:02 pm

I donated $20 yesterday. Such a heartbreaking story and I have truly no idea what I would do in her situation!

  26. Len on June 2, 2011 at 10:37 pm

As I was reading this story I started crying… it was so touching. My grandmother recently passed away from cancer and it tore our family apart. I will pray that Tonya’s family will not have to go thru the same thing. I have faith in her faith and she will be ok. Therefor, I donated $10 for her and the memory of my grandmother…
