Squadron Reunion

Hi friends 😀 How was your Memorial Day? Did anyone notice the constant aroma of hamburgers and hotdogs all day? Delicious.

So, one of the many perks of working at the resort is discounts on spa services. Since my massage therapist is moving, I thought it would be a good idea to get a massage from someone else today… you know, for research purposes 😉

It was so. glorious- everything I could wish for. Three cheers for Massage Monday [To be fair, I made the Pilot an appointment for tomorrow at a local spa so he can relax and refresh too]

Random snackage:

snack

Leftover egg casserole from nana’s + a gluten-free donut

Lots of kale chips!

kale

(on a snowman plate. Christmas in May? Ok)

We were invited to a BBQ with our new squadron today and were asked to bring a side dish, so I made a Greek chopped salad:

salad

-cucumber

-orange bell pepper

-kalamata olives

-chickpeas

-red quinoa

-mint

-parsley

-lemon juice, olive oil, garlic powder, sea salt and pepper

So easy and perfect to be out in the sun without spoiling 🙂

Our other contribution:

beer

Of course, haha.

The best thing about hanging out with our new squadron is that we know most of them already! Almost everyone at the party had been stationed with us in North Carolina and/or Georgia at one point or another. Usually, I would be nervous about being a squadron newbie –we were at our last place for 4 years!- but they’re already all good friends. The A-10 family is small, so we always end up seeing each other again… and I like that a lot 🙂

As lovely and wonderful as the party was, the food was equally fantastic:

My salad, peach salsa, chips, hummus, black bean burger, grape tomatoes

+ more chips and salsa

+ more hummus and veggies

+ more salad

You know 😉

It was a great time with great friends, for sure <3

After the party, we took Bella to the dog park since she was in the house most of the day.

That’s Nugget, who fell madly in love with the Pilot. Can’t say I blame her 😉

We’re back at the casa and I’m prepping to watch the season finale of Khloe and Lamar.

See ya in the morning with a “Focus On” post!

xoxo

Something to do: Send me your “Show Me Your Fit” pics! I’ll be doing another round this Friday.

  4. Sara on May 31, 2011 at 12:36 am

Hehehe, WHAT is that little black dog?? It’s got such a cute face and goofy expression. A dog like that could almost make me a dog person.

    • Fitnessista on May 31, 2011 at 12:37 am

i have no idea but it was so funny and cute!

    • Tabi on May 31, 2011 at 5:35 am

Looks like a pug-terrier or pug-shih-tzu mix to me 😀 A pug mixed with something scruffier = an adorable Nugget!

  5. babs on May 31, 2011 at 1:42 am

That is definitely puppy love. I love how Nugget is so smitten but the Pilot is cheesing for the picture. Boys are always going around breaking girls (or dogs) hearts . . . especially the cute boys 😉

I just got a delicious massage the other day too & also had the wonderful “massage hair”. It was worth every glorious tension releasing moment! Super jealous of your spa discounts! I’ve got to jump on that sour cream kale chip recipe too! I saw it on Angela’s blog and it’s been on my mind every since!

  7. ellalinea on May 31, 2011 at 4:14 am

hhhh that doggie is soooo cute, “nugget”, cute name for dog 🙂

  8. Amanda on May 31, 2011 at 5:21 am

Nugget makes me want a wee dog….. she’s ridiculously cute!!!

  9. Allison on May 31, 2011 at 5:37 am

A discount massage is definitely a pretty nice job perk!! A guy who is a masseuse comes to my gym all the time and sometimes brings his massage chair and will give free massages before and after the class he came for:):):) I of course am one of the first in line!!

Its so nice that you already know most of the people in your squadron! It probably makes the transition so much easier!

I definitely noticed the burger aroma yesterday! I’m a vegetarian, but the smell of someone grilling out suuuure does smell good! 😉

So jealous of the massage. I need some of that action in my life.

  12. Heather (Heather's Dish) on May 31, 2011 at 7:43 am

that quote could not be more true…a HUGE thanks to the Pilot and the other men and women who serve our country!

  13. Holly @ The Runny Egg on May 31, 2011 at 7:43 am

Oh my gosh Nugget is such a cute dog and what a sweet name! Dogs just love Jason too — he seems to just draw them in!

  14. kaila @ healthy helper! on May 31, 2011 at 7:50 am

I totally watched khloe and lamar too! I don’t know why but I love all the kardashian shows…their so mindless, but good for some reason! Looks like you guys had a fun memorial day!!!!

  15. Jackie on May 31, 2011 at 8:05 am

    Nugget is adorable.

  16. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on May 31, 2011 at 8:06 am

Oooh I love massages, and it’s been too long since I had one!! The spa I go to has the softest robes EVER, and they’re actually for sale in the front shop so I think I might actually buy one this time!

  17. A Fine Balance on May 31, 2011 at 8:25 am

Your food looks amazing. A gluten free donut? how cool!

and the black bean burger and peach salsa yum! can you tell I am hungry lol…6 weeks to competition!

  18. Mo on May 31, 2011 at 8:42 am

Going to attempt that Greek salad – I just love chick peas. I got a gift certificate for a massage that desperately needs using – thank you for the reminder. Summer is finally here in Wisconsin – and I have the sunburn to prove it! Roof is done, and we bribed the roofers to take down a big tree house that has become a squirrel house in our yard – needless to say the squirrels weren’t too happy about that! What a face on that furry little guy! Take care and enjoy your week.

  20. Shanna, like Banana on May 31, 2011 at 8:48 am

Even though I’m not a burger/hotdog eater, I love the smell of them grilling. It makes me think of summer!

  21. Gina @Running to the Kitchen on May 31, 2011 at 9:11 am

The salad looks good! And the kale chips almost look like they have snow on them so the Xmas plate is appropriate 🙂

  22. britt on May 31, 2011 at 9:59 am

oooh, i want a massage. lifting a 20 pound baby a million times a day is killer. but my shoulders and arms are definitely looking more toned than ever. bonus!!

    that salad looks delish btw!!

  23. Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food on May 31, 2011 at 10:00 am

oh my goodness nugget is so adorable! Not as cute as Bella of course but close 😉

all that food looks amazing particularly the black bean burgers. Yey for veggie burgers! (I’m not vegan but I do love them beans! )

Hope you have a wonderful start to your week! 🙂

  24. Paige @Running Around Normal on May 31, 2011 at 10:27 am

I didn’t even think about the killer deals you’d score working at a resort! That sounds amazing 🙂

  25. jenna on May 31, 2011 at 10:32 am

your eats look amazing!! i’m dying to try some of your kale chips!! yummy!! i’m sure your dehydrator won’t be fixed anytime soon 😉

  26. jen @ taste life on May 31, 2011 at 10:34 am

That Greek chopped salad looks awesome! Yay for healthier barbeque fair.

I stopped watching Khloe and Lamar a couple of weeks ago – I need to catch up!

  27. Beth (well ill be) on May 31, 2011 at 10:35 am

I think I need a job with a massage discount. Every work place should have that kind of benefit, everyone would be much more productive. I was hoping Nugget was yours!

  28. Stephanie @ StephSnacks on May 31, 2011 at 10:44 am

I love getting massages! I never relax better and my body always feels so at ease.

  29. Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) on May 31, 2011 at 10:46 am

I love the looks of that salad…big chunks of cucumber make me really happy for some crazy reason! And do kale chips and massages!

I’d be doing lots of “market research” on trying to find out who a good replacement massage therapist would be…you know, sample a bit of everyone’s technique and skills. I think you’ve got the right idea.

So happy you guys had a great holiday…and that you were TOGETHER! Thanks to the Pilot for her service; and so happy he’s home this holiday!

  30. Ashley @ the fit academic on May 31, 2011 at 10:46 am
