Stripes and Solids

Today I was feeling extra anxious for some reason. I’m usually very good about handling (and thriving) on my busy schedule, but with the Pilot not knowing when he’ll be home, the house sale in the process and some other things, I was a little stressball. There wasn’t a yoga class anytime soon, I’d already done my cardio for the day.. which left one remedy:

buys

Express.
I’m a fierce believer that shopping is excellent therapy, but only if you don’t bust your budget or rely on credit. Plus: I had these Express coupons I had to use! <—the more coupons you use, the more they send you. It’s a beautiful cycle haha.

Today’s buys were all stripes and solids! I love stripes, solids and florals. They’re always in style and look especially fresh in the spring.

Today’s buys:

Jean shorts and white front-button shorts (buy one, get one half off)

Pink striped tank, grey striped tee, pink soft tee (buy two, get one free)

Black tank dress, purple short sleeved dress (full price)

White under-tank (full price, but I lost my other one)

Blue and white button-up (29.99 sale)

jewelry

Giant CZ necklace and cute beachy pink/silver bangle (even though it’s pink, it’s a neutral pink and can be worn with pretty much anything)- buy one get one half off

+ $75 in Express coupons

= $221 grand total

Not bad, right?

They’re all classic pieces that I’ll be wearing for a while. Since they’re all a little on the plain side, I plan on using accessories to make them more exciting by belting the jackets, adding a blazer with the stripy tee and tanks, funky wedge shoes and jewelry.

Today I rocked a casual look with my new jean shorts, grey striped shirt, silver Aldo sandals and both of the jewelry pieces.

(Sorry for the MySpace style pic, I was having self timer issues)

My Express shopping strategy:

-Bring coupons! If you don’t have any, ask a sales rep very sweetly “Hey, do you guys have any coupons right now?” They ALWAYS have coupons and even when I forget mine, they have them at the register. Just be polite and they will hook you up.

-Buy one, get one is your friend. Almost all of the clothes have some sort of discount, so make sure you get the bundle deal if it’s something you’ll use. I’ve bought two pairs of crops for $70 before! It’s pretty decent quality stuff, too, considering the prices.

Hope this helps a little! Let me know if these are the types of posts you’d like to see on the “Fashion” page- I always love your feedback.

xoxo

Gina

Ahh I was SO close to buying the shorts (buy 1 get 1 1/2 off) when I was there a couple of weekends ago, and now I really wish I had! I agree, coupons are the way to go, especially at Express! I never leave that store disappointed!

I like your first fashion post Gina! Those shorts are super adorable.

Just hit up Express a week ago and bought 3 dresses, earrings, and lipgloss for $130…no lie! Saved about $150!

Very cute purchases and I agree, shopping=therapy. Love the stripes! I also have the same KS phone case that you have. I got it at her store in Vegas. It makes me so happy to reach into my purse to see pink and polka dots.

express is the bees knees for SURE!

  8. Courtney on May 9, 2011 at 7:14 pm

Great deal on coupons. Express is one of my favorite places to purchase work clothes. I don’t wear horizontal stripes … I feel like it makes me look wide. I like vertical stripes tho! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on May 9, 2011 at 7:37 pm

girl you could totally own the horizontal stripes

I didn’t realize I got to see your sweet new duds today! Lovely picks! I was admiring your CZ necklace, thinking “my, these Tucson women have serious diamonds!” haha

hahah totally cz 🙂 so glad i got to see you today!

I dominated Express over the weekend too! I did the buy 2 get 1 deal as well as a buy 1 get 1 half off on their graphic tees. I also got some cute purple sandals that are precious! All for $121 with a $50 off coupon. You truly can’t beat their sales! I also love how when I walk in one sales guy always asks “Does your husband know you’re here again?”. Bahahaha!

Love it – you have great style! Wish we had an Express and forever 21 in Oz!

  12. Running Betty on May 9, 2011 at 7:41 pm

I used to shop at Express all the time in college. Ironically, I’m usually next door at Forever 21 now because my daughters and I can all shop there together for a lot less money.

    I didn’t know about the coupons . . . thanks, Gina 🙂

Oh my goodness I love Express. SO MANY COUPONS! Haha once I got this amazing houndstooth coat that was on all these crazy sales, plus I had both a coupon and a giftcard. It was magical. You look gorgeous in your stripes btw!

Love the goods! We don’t have an Express around here – the most exciting clothing store we have is Bluenotes. It’s a sad situation…

Fashion page is looking great. 🙂 First post is about what I figured, and looks good! I can’t ever spend that much on clothing… we don’t make enough with both being students and me working full/near full time. I’m more a Ross/TJ Maxx kinda girl. Your buys look great though!

Love your Express buys! I’m a fan of buying basics too. I love how they can worn in so many ways by just changing up the accessories. 😀

  24. Lindsay@livinglindsay on May 9, 2011 at 9:48 pm

I heart Express. I think I own their entire spring/summer line. I always buy a shirt, wear it, and then decide that I love it so much I have to have the other colors, too. So I buy more colors of the same shirt. 🙂 I have two coupons sitting on my counter right now. 🙂

I am realizing how long it’s been since I’ve been to Express–must go now! I have become obsessed with Banana Republic’s coupons, and it makes “bargain shopping” soooo easy when they send a coupon for 30-40% off like every other day! If you’re not on their email list, you should get your booty on there!

  26. Ash on May 9, 2011 at 10:18 pm

  30. Gina B on May 10, 2011 at 5:02 am

I just bought that same bracelet on Sunday (too funny!)…it jumped out at me as cute and unique 🙂 Another strategy I employ to save money there is my aunt is a manager there 😉 She hooks me up with her discount when it’s on…and also gets me fabulous presents she snags when things go on clearance or sale (she gets first dibs because she’s the one changing the prices!). Love that store!

  31. Bekki on May 10, 2011 at 1:19 pm

I have a love-hate relationship with Express. It’s fine for casual stuff, and I do buy it, but I will never buy work attire there again. Which is sad, but the quality is terrible. Their editor pants especially–one thin layer of material and the hem is GLUED, which after a couple wears will undoubtedly come undone. I have three pairs of pants from there and I’ve had to hand sew the hem on each one. It sucks because they fit me so well. Button down blouses are no better–the neat little detailing, like on the cuffs, is cheap plastic that will also fall off.

Just a warning to all other ladies who have to keep it business 5 days a week–invest in clothing elsewhere!

    • Fitnessista on May 10, 2011 at 2:46 pm

      the hem is glued?! ewww

  34. Amy on May 10, 2011 at 6:41 pm

Your Express seems so much better than the one near me! Every time I go in there I never find anything .. wahh!
