Such a Rookie

Hi guys!

Look who got a haircut today….

bella

She now has a pom-pom tail, a pink bow, an I-just-came-from-the-beauty-shop swagger,

bella (2)

and the stink eye because I woke her up for a picture 😉

Today has been CUHRAZY. I didn’t even take a nap after waking up before the sun to teach bootcamp this morning! I don’t know who I am right now. Waking up before the pilot, no nap, I’m a different person today 😉

I dropped Bella boo off at the groomers,

got a deep conditioning treatment on my hair,

the lens for the new cam arrived in the mail,

lens

and I have no idea how to use it. I’m so stoked that Nicole is having a photo workshop at the Summit this weekend- I need help over here 😉

Fun with the cam:

One of the funniest comments I’ve ever received said that every picture of Viesa looks like she’s staring into your soul. The above pic pretty much epitomizes that, haha

Carob roons– my raw cacao powder hasn’t arrived yet, so these aren’t technically raw, but still verrryyyyy tasty 🙂

roons

Lunch was a vegan version of my Perfect Protein Pancakes.

This version of the recipe is almost to the point where I can share it with ya’ll – they were AMAZING!

+ a protein smoothie @ Main Squeeze with Jeni and Michele

I’m off to work for a little while before the wives’ meeting. Usually they’re a lot of fun, but I’ve been dreading this one….

Hope you have a wonderful night! I’ll see ya tomorrow with the news about where I’ll be living this fall – some of you have already guessed it 😀

xoxo,

Gina

Something to do: Send me a review and pic of your favorite workout DVD (fitnessista at gmail dot com, subject: DVD Review)- I’ll be doing a massive DVD review post on Thursday and would love to include some of your faves!

Today’s Workout Jam: “Rocket” by Goldfrapp – fun for a warm-up song 😀

I just got a DSLR too and I have NO clue how to use it! It frightens me.

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 4:16 pm

your pictures always look amazing, though!

      • Jessica @ How Sweet on August 10, 2010 at 4:56 pm

Oh my gosh… THANK YOU! I am very insecure about my pictures, so that means alot. <3

  2. Jackie (Army Wife) on August 10, 2010 at 4:14 pm

Sounds like it’s one of those meetings every military wife dreads. I know it’ll be a rough time ahead but nothing beats that feeling you get when you run into his arms after so many months apart!

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 4:16 pm

      amen to that, girl <3

      • Nicole @ Geek Turned Athlete on August 10, 2010 at 7:12 pm

So true! I look forward to those “meetings,” and honestly, it really doesn’t matter where you go. Of course some places are better than others. The AF has take the hubs and I around the world, and home is really where you make it. If you are a happy person in general (and it seems like you are), the next place you go to will be just fine. 😉

  3. Laura on August 10, 2010 at 4:16 pm

Ok maybe I am a silly girl but when you say that you want a picture to go along with the DVD review do you mean a picture of the DVD case or a picture DOING the work out? Cause that could be a game changer on whether or not I write my review 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 4:22 pm

either one! just so i have a pic to post with it

  4. Paola on August 10, 2010 at 4:17 pm

wow, that pic of Viesa is stunning… and yes, she’s really staring in my soul now!!! what a beautiful pup!

  5. Jaime on August 10, 2010 at 4:17 pm

For that lens, set your cam to Av mode (which might be CA on the T1) then crack your apeture to the lowest setting. That’s about the only good trick I’ve learned thus far, but it totally makes it look like you know what you are doing. 🙂 Have fun!!

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 4:21 pm

LOL. awesome! thank you- i need to look like i know what i’m doing. if it’s any hint of how pathetic i am, i took the memory card out to put the pics on the computer…and have no clue how to put it back in. embarassing! haha

  6. Holly @ couchpotatoathlete on August 10, 2010 at 4:17 pm

Bella is so sweet! 🙂 I love the pom pom tail.

Your pics with the new camera look great! Check out those yummy macaroons!

  7. RhodeyGirl on August 10, 2010 at 4:19 pm

Bummer you are not coming to my entertaining session. I will be having a pity party for myself!!!! 🙁

Make sure you save room for SWAG. There will be lots of good stuff!

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 4:20 pm

good to know- i’m bringing my GIANT suitcase for that very reason 🙂
i wish i could go to your entertaining session! i love entertaining so much 🙂 definitely need help with my camera, though- i have no clue how to use it

  8. Megan @ Healthy Hoggin' on August 10, 2010 at 4:23 pm

Can’t wait to hear about your big move! I grew up as an Air Force brat, so I can TOTALLY relate to moving all the time! Hopefully you’re going somewhere exciting!! 😀

I’m so jealous of your new camera! I’ve dropped my point-and-shoot so many times, that I don’t think I can be trusted with a nicer camera anytime soon!

  9. Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter on August 10, 2010 at 4:27 pm

I can’t wait to hear about where you are moving. I’m wishing for a place with a Whole Foods, and gigantic shopping mall and a place to teach zumba all down the block for ya 😉

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 4:43 pm

      it’s got ALL THREE 🙂

  11. Frankie @FitnessFrank.net on August 10, 2010 at 4:32 pm

i have a confession to make: i am STILL obsessed with jane fonda’s original 1982 workout 🙂 the advanced workout is like an old friend. should i hang my head in shame?

(p.s. just so you know, i was not lunging to the vid back in ’82!)

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 4:42 pm

no, that’s awesome! i’m hooked on mari winsors old school pilates dvds.. they’re amazing

  12. Heather (Heather's Dish) on August 10, 2010 at 4:57 pm

just be patient with it…it’s such a cool thing that is always evolving!!!

  13. Lauren on August 10, 2010 at 5:00 pm

Love that lens! Be careful with it, it breaks in a heartbeat though. My tip is to set the camera to AV and put the aperture at 1.8. You are all set. Crank the ISO up for low light and you shouldn’t have to use the flash.

  14. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on August 10, 2010 at 5:05 pm

Ahh your pictures already look amazing!!! I want an SLR so badly…Christmas is rapidly approaching though 🙂 Hope you have a great night!

  15. Amanda on August 10, 2010 at 5:13 pm

Those macaroons look amazing! I’m a huge Goldfrapp fan too! I love listening to the during work outs!

  16. Tina on August 10, 2010 at 5:22 pm

I’ll have to get on that DVD review! I have quite a few I love to do. Must remember that. Can’t wait to hear the news on where you’ll be living.

Love the new lens. I am dying for a macro lens myself. You’re going to get amazing shots with it. Like even more close up ones of Viesa’s soul searching stare.

  17. Little Bookworm on August 10, 2010 at 5:31 pm

Love that photo of Viesa – it is lovely! 🙂

  18. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on August 10, 2010 at 5:36 pm

Now that HLS is getting closer and everyone’s hinting about it in their posts, I am feeling the same way I did last year…regretful that I am not going! But then again, I could have gone, I just chose not to. Not that going would have been “easy” or anything w/ a child and a hubs and trying to leave them alone but yeah anyway girl, I hope you have a blasty and I want ALL the dirt. Not just the canned blog posts about how “wonderful” it is LOL 🙂

“I don’t know who I am right now. Waking up before the pilot, no nap, I’m a different person today “—Oh that would be called motherhood. If you’re ever going to be a mom, forget about naps. That adage, “sleep when the baby sleeps”. Yes it’s lovely in theory but then when do you shower, sh*t, cook, clean, open the mail, return calls, return emails, etc…? Moms don’t sleep. We live on 5 hrs a nite baby! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 9:45 pm

      me <----- afraid hahah

  19. stacey on August 10, 2010 at 5:42 pm

Bella looks so pretty with her new haircut:)

Looking forward to meeting you at the HLS! I need to attend the camera session too. I bought my DSLR back in March and I am still taking pics with the automatic settings. It’s a bit overwhelming.

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 9:43 pm

i’m so excited to meet you, too!!

Bella is such a cutie!! So is Viesa – she looks like a big fox, I love it! I’m secretly hoping that you are moving to PA so we can become neighbors! haha I’m in need of a workout buddy!! Best of luck wherever you are going – I’m thinking a whole paycheck is going to have to be close by 🙂

  25. Vanessa on August 10, 2010 at 6:44 pm

I never noticed that about Viesa’s pictures before! Crazy! Excited for the vegan protein pancake recipe. Sounds like a fall and winter staple to me!

  26. Alexa@Living La Vida Pura on August 10, 2010 at 6:53 pm

The 50mm lens is fabulous for food photography; typically it’s used for portraits, so you can see how that would transfer from people to food!

Tip for fun: If you have a small F number (large aperture), less of the stuff in the background will be in focus. Conversely, if you have a large F number (big aperture), more of the stuff in the background will be in focus. So if you shot Viesa at a higher F number, you could have gotten her entire body instead of just her face in focus!

  27. Retta @ RunRettaRun on August 10, 2010 at 6:58 pm

I might be the only one that still uses a P&S ;). Excited to hear about where your new digs will be. Jealous that you will have both TJs & WF!!

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 9:41 pm

no tj’s, but yes, whole foods!

  28. Nicki on August 10, 2010 at 7:03 pm

Perfect timing for a DVD review! I am so excited! I am leaving for a three week trip back home where I won’t be able to go to the gym and was just about to email you for some advise on DVDs to invest in for my trip. I am kind of nervous about how to keep up my weight training and cardio while I am home.

I’ve just found your blog, after getting back into my healthy routine, and I just want to say thank you for giving not only your fitness tips but also your perspective on being married to a military man. My life is so far removed from the military, its so easy to just take for granted that these men and women are sacrificing so much to protect us. I know its no consolation for having to be apart from your husband for extended periods, but please know that you and your husband (and the other military families out there) are truly an inspiration for us all and your blog has really made me appreciate that. (In addition to introducing me to the fabulous breakfast cookie).

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 9:39 pm

      thank you so much <3

  30. Whitney on August 10, 2010 at 7:40 pm

It took me awhile to learn how to use my DSLR. It’s just a lot of trial and error. But now point and shoot pictures look like complete crap next to them.

  31. Jen on August 10, 2010 at 9:05 pm

Bella looks so cute! Love it!

  32. Stacey@http://stacey-healthylife.blogspot.com/ on August 10, 2010 at 9:07 pm

The carob rons looked good. What’s in it?

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 9:38 pm

coconut, almond flour, carob, spices, sweetener, oil 😉

  33. Krystina on August 10, 2010 at 9:08 pm

Love the NYC ballet company workout 2 DVD. It’s so relaxing and makes me feel beautiful.

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 9:54 pm

i LOVE that one, too! i’d forgotten about it- thank you for reminding me!

  35. Sima on August 10, 2010 at 10:08 pm

I love your blog. Have been following it since I am trying to be more healthy these days. I have the Rebel T1i camera . You will love it. It’s my first grown up camera. Look forward to seeing some great photos with it. Viesa looks lovely in the photo, Bella looks adorable.

If your camera didn’t come with a lens filter I definitely recommend you buy one as it goes over your new lens and will protect it from dust and scratches. I found mine at Best Buy.

    • Fitnessista on August 10, 2010 at 10:20 pm

good to know, i’ll pick one up asap! thank you 🙂

  36. Jackie (Peaces of Earth) on August 11, 2010 at 1:09 am

Hey, I have that lens!! It’s the bomb diggity. Just take your pics in natural light with the ISO set as low as you can (the more light the lower you can set it). I always set my aperture to 1.8 (which creates the blurry background), then adjust the shutter speed until the light meter is in the middle. If this means nothing to you, check out you tube! It seriously helped me SO much. I’m sure the HLS session will be awesome, her pictures are perfect. So jealous I’m not going!! Good luck with your meeting tonight. xoxo

  37. Jennifer on August 11, 2010 at 1:42 am

So excited for these DVD reviews! Thanks Gina! 🙂

  38. Indie Mom and the Reluctant Banker on August 11, 2010 at 3:09 am

I just bought the same camera and lens and I’m loving the pictures they take (you can see how the pics are turning out on my blog). For food photos I normally use manual mode and set the aperture number low (around 1.8) and adjust the shutter speed to that.

Great choice on the camera, hope you have fun with it!

  39. Paige @Running Around Normal on August 11, 2010 at 6:47 am

I got that lens for my Rebel about a month ago… and it’s still in the box. You’ll have to give us the scoop on what you learn at the HLS because I need help over here too!

      i definitely will!
