Sucked In

Hi friends! How’s your day treating ya?

flowers

Mine is pretty bueno now that I’ve gotten some work done, fresh flowers in the casa and groceries in the fridge.

Today’s grocery shop was at a trader named Joe’s, and was mostly to stock up on essentials since I’m not quite sure what I’m making this week.

groceries

-green tea

-frozen organic veggies and fruit

-almond milk

-balsamic dressing

-organic incredible edibles

-arugula

-herbs (basil, mint and parsley)

-seaweed snacks and Meyer lemons

grocereies

-tomatoes

-soup

-organic beans

-almond butter with flax

-goat cheddar (cheese splurge)

-waters (I make myself drink at least one of the giant bottles each day)

-more seaweed snacks

-cucumber

-goat cream cheese

After groceries, I took Bella on a little walk and was sucked in….

book

to the Pioneer Woman’s book “From Black Heels to Tractor Wheels

I’ve been getting into “The Power of Intention”, called it quits on “Confessions of a Military Wife” (it wasn’t as funny as I thought it would be), and finished another entire book on my flights this weekend. I figured it was time for a fun read and since I lurk Ree’s blog all the time, and Sabrina emailed me to say I’d LOVE her book, so I downloaded it. It’s AMAZING so far- an easy, fun, real read.

Bella got a longer walk than usual today.. I couldn’t hit the off switch 😉

Some recent eats:

Brown rice cakes with goat cream cheese and salsa (I ended up having another one- it was so good)

cakes

TJs lentil vegetable soup with a blob of goat cream cheese on top (for my face “garnish”)

soup

Blueberry Sun Warrior smoothie

smoothie

+ an amazeball 🙂

I’m back to work and then hitting up a kickbox class tonight. Ka-pow!

See ya in the morning with a fun playlist 🙂

xoxo

Gina

Something to think:

Tea words of wisdom

Something to talk about: What’s your favorite use for Meyer lemons? They’re already destined for macaroon glory, but I’d love to hear any suggestions you may have! What’s the last book you read that REALLY sucked you in? For me, it was The Help- I couldn’t finish it fast enough, but didn’t want it to be over.

I love it! Two of my favorite blogs together! I LOVE pioneer woman’s blog!! and I love her story and her style of writing =) I hope you enjoy her book; I haven’t read it but excerpts from her blog.

I, too, LOVED The Help!!! The last book I read that sucked me in (I read it in one night, but stayed up until 4am to do it b/c I couldn’t put it down) was Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. LOVED it.

    • Katherine on March 2, 2011 at 7:04 am

      LOVED Winter Garden!

I would like to know some good uses for meyer lemons too! I have a meyer lemon tree in my back yard and I feel like I should be taking advantage of the situation a little more! I always end up just squeezing a lemon in my tea in the morning. But using the lemons in a more creative way could definitely be a good thing.

The Hunger Games! Amazing. When I read that book (and the following two in the series), my life was on hold until I finished. It took like, 3 days to read those books. Water for Elephants was also quite the page turner. Harry Potter has my heart for sure. I could go on and on forever about books. The Mists of Avalon. Jitterbug Perfume. The Girls Guide to Hunting and Fishing. There are too many good books out there and not enough time to read them!

I loved The Help too. Right now I’m reading the last book in the Dragon Tatoo series and I loved them!

I recently used Meyer lemons to make blueberry lemon muffins. They were super delish! http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=10000000444741

I made almond milk w/ lemon “buttermilk” and didn’t add the icing. I loved the breakfasty muffin taste to them and they were still semi healthy.

    • Fitnessista on March 1, 2011 at 11:39 pm

      that sounds fantastical

I love using meyer lemons for juicing, as well as incorporated into salad dressings!
    Have a good class!

  7. Dorry on March 1, 2011 at 11:17 pm

I love rice cake snacks, too – my favorite is avocado slices and sea salt with a splash of lemon or lime. Delish!

  8. Eliza on March 1, 2011 at 11:32 pm

  9. Running Betty on March 1, 2011 at 11:38 pm

how do you read and walk the dog at the same time without dying?
I really enjoyed The Help, but the most recent book I read that will really stick with me forever was Born to Run.

  10. Christin@purplebirdblog on March 1, 2011 at 11:53 pm

You and Kath… I do not understand how you guys are able to WALK and READ at the same time! I would totally run into stuff!!!! 😀

Speaking of being sucked in. I have spent the last week and half reading your blog from the beginning and got current today! I love it and you! You are amazing. You have no idea how many times I was tempted to comment on old posts and had to remind myself that these posts are OLD!! Did you ever get the Five Fingers? They are all I wear and it’s a little piece of heaven, I feel like my runs are more childlike and lovely. I support the Whole Foods habit (my fam is 100% organic) and the sparkly Toms, I have the pink ones and I pretty sure you would love the wedges like I do! Okay, I just had to tell you that you are fantastic!!!

    • Fitnessista on March 2, 2011 at 1:05 pm

      awww thanks girl!!! <3
no i didn't end up getting the five fingers. still think they look super cool though!
      xoxo

  14. Gina on March 2, 2011 at 5:21 am

Pretty flowers!! I have a question about the seaweed snacks. I bought some online, and I can hardly eat them, which is weird because I like them in rolls and wraps. Is it an acquired taste, or maybe I ordered a bad brand?

    • Fitnessista on March 2, 2011 at 1:05 pm

you might have not gotten a good brand. the tjs one are so good- salty and crunchy

    • Leah on March 2, 2011 at 3:45 pm

I love them in rolls, too, but didn’t find the TJ’s brand to taste good – at all! So, it might just be one of those foods that you either love or you hate! 🙂

I say skip the seaweed snacks and make some AMAZEBALLZ!!! I am a HUGE fan of them and have told all my friends to make them, and quiet a few have!!! YUMMY!!!

      • Fitnessista on March 2, 2011 at 8:07 pm

        amazeballz for the win 🙂

  15. Kara on March 2, 2011 at 7:20 am

The last book I read that sucked me was “Those Who Save Us” and I reviewed on my blog if you’re interested (http://itsadoglickbabyworld.blogspot.com/2011/02/book-review-and-marine-corps-marathon.html)

  16. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on March 2, 2011 at 7:52 am

I love using lemons in lemon poppyseed muffins! Other than that, I actually don’t really bake with lemons that much.

  17. Melissa on March 2, 2011 at 8:11 am

I use lemons in a strawberry lemonade that my son and I cant get enough of! 2 lemons peeled and deseeded, 10 frozen or fresh strawbs, 5tbs raw sugar, 4 cups cold water. Shove it all in the blender and then drink up! Turns out very yummy and extra tart. My husband adds extra water to his, but the little one and I enjoy the mouth pinching reaction 🙂

  18. Faith @ lovelyascharged on March 2, 2011 at 8:16 am

Mine was definitely the Kite Runner – I’d heard about it in my contemporary literature class, never touched it, then found a copy a few months ago and devoured it in like two days. So much better than the movie, too, of course.

  19. Cameo on March 2, 2011 at 8:19 am

Wow, you can read and walk simultaneously??? I would fall flat on my FACE! LOL. Thanks for inspiring me to get a new book. The last book I read that sucked me in was Jonathan Ames’ “Wake Up, Sir” – so funny.

    • Fitnessista on March 2, 2011 at 1:04 pm

yep that’s how i read fun books and catch up on blogs- while i’m walking bella 🙂

  20. Emily N on March 2, 2011 at 8:21 am

I loved, loved, loved Yael Hedaya’s “The accident.” Its basically about this father of an 11-year-old daughter whose wife dies in a car accident. What I loved about the story was that it didn’t make him into a hero or a monster, he was just trying the best he could to navigate and he was compassionate, kind, and confused. He struggled with the depression of grieving quietly as he could. My favorite part of the story is when he starts dating 2 years later.
Told very wisely. It was one of the “truest” family stories I’ve ever read.

  21. Emily on March 2, 2011 at 8:39 am

The latest Cooking Light issue has a whole section dedicated to the Meyer lemon!

  22. Leanne on March 2, 2011 at 8:46 am

  24. Bridget on March 2, 2011 at 9:09 am

    Hi Gina!

Well first I was just wondering what type of salsa that is?! Looks delicious, is it homemade?? I’ve yet to find a favorite brand…but I’m guessing you have better options down in AZ!

Just wanted to say hi, long time reader but i just rarely comment, but I love reading your bloggy. We also have the same iphone case haha. And I’m super jealous of your involvement in Dance Trance! I wish they had one up in MAss!!

    • Fitnessista on March 2, 2011 at 1:04 pm

      homemade 🙂
thank you so much for saying hi!! they’ll probably open one in the near future- DT is spreading like wildfire!

  25. Natalie on March 2, 2011 at 9:12 am

I am about to finish Water For Elephants. Read it in a few days. Could not put it down.

  26. Ilana on March 2, 2011 at 9:13 am

I recently bought a bag of meyer lemons and have been going through tbem slowly… Massaged kale salads for me and some lemon-basil chicken for my man have been some popular creations. Jenna at EatLiveRun posted a recipe for candied Meyers and I’m thinking that’s what I’m gonna do with the rest of mine.

  27. Mo on March 2, 2011 at 9:27 am

What brand of tea do you drink that has the “words of wisdom”? I like that. Do you really walk and read your kindle at the same time? I would fall! Tonight, we are taking on a new pupper – they rescued her from Egypt (where they do not treat their animals right) – and they have to go back, so they really want to make sure she is loved and well taken care of. She’s a 5 year old mutt with the most gentle brown eyes. I’m a little nervous that our boy pupper is ok with this . . . he’s 14 and I hope it works ok. Well, take care and have a good one. Mo

    • Fitnessista on March 2, 2011 at 1:03 pm

      it’s yogi brand tea 🙂
yep, i walk and read at the same time. hope the puppers get along well!!

      • Mo on March 2, 2011 at 1:38 pm

I’ll pick some of that up. Just got word that new puppy really is a puppy, 5 months, not 5 years old. Oh boy, that’s a big difference!

        • Mo on March 2, 2011 at 8:22 pm

Gina, what do you suggest for a broken heart? My new puppy had a seizure last night so she won’t be joining our little family. I’m so grateful the current owner was up front about everything. Such a swing of emotions. I know how you roll – and things happen for a reason – so I’m sure that is what you would tell me. Still sad though. I pray for the little pup.
