Swim in the buttah pool

Hey everyone! How’s your night going? Mine day has continued to be buenísimo with the exception of the fact that I was about to head to the gym and my car wouldn’t start! Since it was pouring, I couldn’t run there, so today was active recovery roll-on-the-foam-roller day instead 😀

Lunch was a lovely Raw Noodle Bowl:

012

Spiralized zucchini and yellow squash with shredded carrots, Nama Shoyu, apple cider vinegar, sesame oil, sea salt, pepper, red bell pepper, dulse and cilantro. It was ahhhmazin’

And a side of goat jack cheese:

013

I spent some of the afternoon playing with the new camera!

A decorative fruit bowl (taken with the “gourmet” setting)

015

The living room and breakfast nook:

017

The tough little lady:

016

I dealt with the car thing –called the towing company who jumped my car and then the pilot came home and we got a new battery- and then got ready to meet the girls for dinner.

We hit up one of our usual spots: Longhorn. I still think it’s funny that one of the restaurants in Valdizzy that I enjoy the most is a steakhouse. They have great seafood!

My dinner came with a salad (no cheese, balsamic on the side and I picked the trans fat laden croutons off..some crumbs were still on there but I rolled with it):

018

And I ordered the salmon with double veggies instead of rice and a side:

020

The salmon, which I fondly refer to as buttah of the sea, was swimming in a sea of buttah. I mean, of course I ate it, but next time I’ll ask for no butter whatsoever. Cheffer working in the kitchen definitely got a little overzealous with his butter slathering.

Dinner was pretty good, the company was wonderful, but when I left my sweet tooth was kicking. I haven’t had a treat night since I went to town on the tortilla chips and wine last weekend, so I figured tonight could be my treat night for the week.

Enter Coconut Bliss ice cream:

027

(Rocking my Main Squeeze shirt)

The supermodel laid on the couch and judged me with her eyes:

023

I just wish she didn’t want to eat Bella 🙁 I want to keep her so badly.

025

And the pilot enjoyed his Marble Slab that I picked up for him on the way home 😀

We didn’t end up seeing a movie tonight because all of us girls were pretty exhausted, so we’ll probably go sometime soon.

Well I’m off to bed—I’ll see ya in the morning!

xoxo,

G

Today’s tip: Go to the gym with a plan of what you want to do while you’re there. Don’t just walk in willy nilly with no idea of what you’re going to do. Take a small index card and write down your cardio routine and weights beforehand. This way, you can skip to the next thing if a particular machine or area is being used, and the notecard is easy to carry around during your workout. You’ll find that you’ll get a lot more accomplished while you’re there and that just means eve quicker results 🙂

Your fruit bowl looks so pretty! I had when chefs get overzealous on the oil as it can really take away from the flavour of the dish. Coconut ice cream is the best!

I just read in a health mag, that if you get the dressing on the side, dip your fork w each bite instead of drizzling it on top.
Im sure you’ve thought of it tho!

  14. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on August 28, 2009 at 12:08 am

Your lunch raw zuke noodles look amazing. Why don’t I have a spiralizer yet? I dunno. Do you have the one Gena recommends? I know there’s one called a saladaco or something like that? Anyway, yeah, I need it. And the dressing simple ACV + sesame = right up my alley! That’s a keeper. Kinda like your breakfast cookie recipe! Thanks for stoppin by my bloggie today to check out what I made!

I love the gourmet setting! Amazing.

  20. Ada on August 28, 2009 at 8:39 am

I’m sorry about the car issue, glad you resolved it! Your pasta sauce also sounds so intriguing, I really want to try Nam Shoyu (spelling?) soon:)

  21. Laura W on August 28, 2009 at 9:03 am

My car battery died recently, too… it’s an ’03 and we realized that I’ve never had it replaced before! Oops… AAA to the rescue. 🙂

Love the pics w/ your new camera– Is it weird that my bf got a new camera yesterday, and the first thing I said to him was, “Oh Gina got that one, too! You know, the Fitnessista!” lol

  22. Lauren on August 28, 2009 at 9:05 am

I hate when the oil/butter/dressing is more overpowering than the acutal food. Just shows what our society has done with food these days.

At least it was still good to eat.

Love the new camera. Your pics are beautiful, just like you! 😉

  23. julie on August 28, 2009 at 9:22 am

seriously the SAME thing happened with my car the other day! We had to call AAA to our house. fail. and then get a brand new spankin battery! and then the following day I had to shell out my savings for a brand spankin new caddalic converter. fail.

atleast you had a wonderful dinner 🙂

  24. Teri on August 28, 2009 at 9:26 am

Gena, can you tell me how you spiralize your veggies? It looks so good! (Sorry if you already posted about it and I missed it!)

  25. Krista on August 28, 2009 at 9:30 am

Your casa looks beautiful and I love all the settings you tried with the camera!

I do not like going out to eat and having my food arrive drenched in anything. I always wonder what they’re trying to hide!! 😉

  26. Anna on August 28, 2009 at 9:35 am

Camera looks great! That fruit bowl came out really well.

  27. Samantha on August 28, 2009 at 9:42 am

Your camera is taking awesome pics! Is that dog a chow-chow? Reminds me so much of the one I had when I was a kid….so precious!! Dinner looked amazing!

  28. Filis on August 28, 2009 at 9:50 am

Hi there! just discovered your blog and cannot stop reading it! (at work!)…can’t wait to try your delicious recipes 🙂

  29. Em on August 28, 2009 at 11:04 am

Gina have you had the other flavors of Coconut Bliss? I’ve noticed the only one you’ve showed on your blog is the vanilla. Might I suggest the Chocolate Hazelnut Fudge? It is uh-mazing. Well, they are ALL amazing. We had the new flavors recently and the Pineapple Coconut is like a pina colada! I think you’d like it. My hubby usually downs an entire pint of the Cappucino in one sitting. He and I have an on-going debate about this though, he likes the Turtle Mountain but I am all for Coconut Bliss. The nice thing about the TM is it’s fluffy and has more of a “real” ice cream texture but I’m all for it keeping it simple with the ingredients. Have a good day xxo

  30. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on August 28, 2009 at 11:13 am

Looks like the new camera is working out nicely! So jealous of your Coconut Bliss… You need to come back to NYC and go to Stogo! I tried their coconut based ice cream recently and it rocked my face off – like I literally had to pick my face up off the floor.

  31. Jenna on August 28, 2009 at 11:16 am

Quick question….is Vega-licious only for sale online or is in in stores too? Same with the Acai frozen packs?

Should I go to Whole Foods or order online? Thanks!

  32. Sarah on August 28, 2009 at 11:17 am

I use that trick at the gym all the time! I am the post-it note queen, haha 😉

  33. Jessica on August 28, 2009 at 11:24 am

I just happened across your blog from someone else’s blogroll and I’ve been reading for a couple of days. What’s really weird is that I used to live in Valdosta!!! My husband was stationed at Moody for 4 years (not a pilot though). I just thought that was a happy coincidence and had to tell you since it’s a pretty small place.

  34. MelissaNibbles on August 28, 2009 at 11:45 am

I need a spiralizer! Your bowl of veggies looks yummy!

  35. Ali on August 28, 2009 at 12:38 pm

WOW! They sure gave you a lot of veggies! I really dislike when they put TONS of butter on the fish! Yuck!

  36. K on August 28, 2009 at 1:18 pm

Love the picture with the ice cream – the way the setting is cracked me up 🙂

I used to order toast when I was still training and the cook in our building would put SO MUCH butter on it! Drove me crazy!

  37. Kristen on August 28, 2009 at 4:27 pm

I spy mangosteen! Holy YUM!! I had them first when I was in Southeast Asia ;-).

Can anyone recommend the kitchen tool to use for making spiral zucchini. I would love to make spiral zucchini and beets with my beast salad. I am new to this Blog and have gotten so much information. Please let me know what tool it is and where I can purchase it

hey! it’s the joyce chen saladacco spiralizer 😀

  39. lovemyshibas on August 29, 2009 at 2:00 am

I have 2 shiba inus and they demonstrate the same behavior as viesa. I also have a small maltese-poodle and the larger shiba constantly “puts her in her place.” As violent as it may seem, its the shiba inu’s nature. i sympathize with your concerns, but i must urge you to give your shiba another chance. We raised my shibas as puppies and trained and trained and trained, but they are very free-willed and will do as they please. They run our house. But you can work with them and learn what triggers their behaviour to prevent it from happening again. Viesa is beautiful, please reconsider.

    • Fitnessista on August 29, 2009 at 11:38 am

do you have kids?? how has the shiba acted around babies??

  40. lovemyshibas on August 29, 2009 at 3:48 pm

I have a 12 month old who plays pretty rough with my big shiba (we call her big mama bear of the house because she keeps all the pups in line) and the shiba would NEVER harm her. we were nervous about the same thing and I am the same age as you so I can relate to your worries but honestly my shibas have never even ONCE looked at my baby the wrong way. It is in their nature to be agressive when they feel it necessary but they are very gentle beings. For an example, my little boy will smack her in the face or pull her curly tail very hard and my shiba will just lick him to death haha. **The agressive side is almost always towards other dogs.** I believe you have no worries when it comes to babies. My shibas were running around at my little boy’s 1st birthday party where there were tons of cousins and babies and I never had any issues. You just need to learn triggers of that agressive behavior and learn to control them (shibas try to over power you, always reassure that you are boss of the house). Now my shiba will just “warn” the other pups if she thinks theyre out of line (she will growl extremely loud and put her mouth right at their neck but will never bite) obviously we do not support this behavior so proper discipline is important. Please keep your shiba! Viesa looks EXACTLY like my big mama bear! Breaks my heart when I hear stories like this because inspite of the past behavior, I would never have any other type of pup. =)

  41. lovemyshibas on August 29, 2009 at 4:05 pm

    An valuable tip to know:

The “attacks” almost ALWAYS begin with a staring match! As ridiculous as that sounds, it is true. Sometimes they are just playing and will have staring matches and then chase eachother around the house, then other times they will stare and then attack within 2 seconds. When this happens, no matter how hard you try the shiba will not stop. My big shiba is VERY protective of me and HATES when I play with our little maltese-poodle so when my shiba comes around when I am playing with her, very rarely she will get in between us and attack my malte-poo. DO NOT try to pull the shiba away, hit her on the nose, any other tactic because it simply will not work and if you try to pull them they won’t respond. The best solution I have learned (as scary as it may be) is to come in between the dogs and simply remove the smaller dog from the situation. This is effective because when your shiba sees you with the dog it is attacking, your shiba will know their behavior is unacceptable and will most likely pout in their bad as mine does.

    Hope this helps =)!

whoa– thank you so much for all of the info. we REALLY don’t want to find a new home for her, so we’re going to keep brainstorming and figure out what to do. it just makes it exponentially harder since i’m leaving in a few days for a month!

  42. Diane on August 30, 2009 at 9:40 am

Hi! I just started reading your blog (Skwigg pointed me your way) because I am going vegan for a month for a little experiment and was told I could find some good recipe ideas on your site. I definitely want to try the cookies and the different blender drinks. Especially Cullen juice since I’m a Twilight geek. 🙂 Just wanted to say hi and comment on this point since I see mangosteen in your fruit picture. That’s probably one of my all time favorite fruits and I eat them by the dozens when I’m in Asia. And dragon fruit too! I’ll be blogging my experiment and send my blog your way if you’re interested. Any blender drink recipes you would like to send my way I would LOVE it! This will be a very hard experiment for me, so I’m in the process of all my research and starting after my Bonaire vacation on Sept. 15. Wish me luck! I’ll keep reading your blog for ideas! Thanks.
