T-Town Vacay Part 3

Hey everyone! Happy Sunday!!! Hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend 😀

My night last night was full of dreadlocks:

019

More on that in a second 😉

We had a pretty chill afternoon yesterday. I made a lovely avocado, romaine and dulse open-faced sandwich on Ezekiel because I was feeling snackalicious at the hotel:

001

Then the pilot got a haircut 😀

We went back to my mom’s house and hung out for a while, and ordered pizza later on from my favorite pizza spot: MAGPIES! (aka Magpizzle)

THEY HAVE WHOLE WHEAT DOUGH!! My bro, who is now a cheffer at a resort used to work there back in the day and would make me wheat slices shaped like a heart 😀 I love Magpizzle.

I got a slice of veggie on wheat with no cheese and covered it with red pepper flakes:

003

Yes, it was the size of my face 😀

We had dinner plans at the daddoo’s, so after taking a little siesta at the hotel, we went over there.

I had a lovely glass of Malbec:

005

And even though everyone else was having grilled chicken and wild rice, my parents made sure there was a lot of delicious foodie for me to eat. They had an awesome salad with greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers and onions and also grilled some portobellos, bell peppers, squash and zucchini.

004

And it was glorious.

For dessert, everyone else had classic ice cream sundaes:

(this is the pilot’s)

006

And my stepmom made me a bowl of fresh berries:

007

We ate outside on the patio with my grandparents, little brothers –one got contacts at the other one is wearing Hollister.. I feel so old-, my brother and his girlfriend and the parentals.

Not a shabby view, either:

008

012

010

After a lovely dinner and chatting with everyone, we went back to the hotel and I took a 1-hr nap before going out at midnight to meet our friends at Chicago Bar. In Valdosta, I never would be able to hang but something about being here makes me not need as much sleep. Weird!

There was a great reggae band playing called Up Root, and we drank and danced the night away.

The pilot and I skipped our standard “mad face” pose and went straight for the ferocious face.

018

You can see my friend Charlie in the background of this one:

015

It was a good night 😀

Now we’re on the way to my nana’s house for brunch (car blogging) and then meeting the madre’s family at church. Later this afternoon: a fun blog meet-up and an Indian dinner 🙂

Have a restful and fabulous Sunday!

xoxo,

G$

It makes me kind of sad to see that you deny yourself ice cream and cheese and chicken and pretend its for health. I hope one day u learn to love all foods and have them in moderation instead of the anorexic denial ur in now. Being one or two sizes bigger won't kill you.

  5. Paige@ Running Around Normal on August 9, 2009 at 4:58 pm

Sounds like so much fun! That's so nice your family accomodates to your eating habits so easily 😀

  6. Fitnessista on August 9, 2009 at 5:07 pm

dear anon- i think it's *sad* that you have to hide behind a veil of anonymity and leave hateful comments. i always recommend yoga for people in your situation.. it helps with quickness to judge and may help you turn some of your negative energy around.
in response to your jab that i don't know how to enjoy things in moderation, you're saying that to the girl who just ate a giant slice of red velvet cheesecake with her girlfriends last weekend. i was in a situation where i really wanted cheesecake and i loved every bite. last night was an ordinary night with the family, not a celebration, or any reason that i felt like enjoying some ice cream out of a carton. i used to eat chicken, and liked it, but since i became a pescatarian for health AND ethical reasons, i choose not to eat it.
i HAVE been one or two sizes bigger.. actually it was 5 sizes bigger and i was lethargic and an unhealthy weight for my size. i lost the weight by changing my eating and exercise habits and plan to keep it off by continuing my lifestyle and treating myself whenever the heck i feel like it.
this is a food blog. if you have a problem with the food i choose to put into my body and the food i don't want to consume, don't read it.

Sorry about the anon 🙁 Anyway G$ – I'm glad you're having a blast on your mini vaca!! I love the looks of that salad! Grilled veggies = LOVE!

  8. Susan on August 9, 2009 at 5:48 pm

Ha, I love that you respond to comments like that! I am 100% with you there, splurge when you want and you don't feel like you're "missing out" on the other things. If anything, a bowl of fresh fruit sounds MUCH more appetizing to me than generic ice cream.

I think it's also reallyreally sweet of your family to accomodate you like that. Perhaps it's because my "lifestyle change" is so new, but mine continually harrass me for skipping out on some things.

Hope the drive went well! 😀

  9. Pamela on August 9, 2009 at 5:59 pm

mmm fresh fruit = perfect summer dessert

    🙂

I got so much grief when I was 100% vegan– soooo annoying!

What a lovely day! Just found your blog, it's adorable! So glad I've stumbled upon it! Hope you had a great weekend! XO!

its good when my fam makes me feel at home and makes extra special food for me. i never expect it because it is and "extra" and i dont want anybody put out by my choices. we are lucky to have fam that excepts us. ugh i do have fam members that are like, michelle theres only a little butter in it….everybody stops what they are doing because said fam memeber is SO LOUD lol!! tight situations deadpan seems to go way over there head. any other ideas…

  12. dirtyduck on August 9, 2009 at 7:04 pm

and omgosh i just saw a ridiculous anon(im so in the lingo now) what is there prob? YOU are a normal weight, that is what humans are supposed to look like, go to France idiot, America is skewed when it comes to proper weight. its called self-control, and she helps a lot of other ppl do it to by setting a good example

  13. Haleigh on August 9, 2009 at 7:20 pm

I love your response to the anon post- I look up to you incredibly Gina!

Love the ferocious face 🙂 You and the pilot look so freaking happy! That pizza looks downright amazing!

  14. JaTara on August 9, 2009 at 7:51 pm

That comment comes off, simply ignorant. You know, there are some in life who find just as much delight and indulgence in fruit, than in icecream.

  15. Pam (Highway to Health) on August 9, 2009 at 8:19 pm

There really isn't any need for hurtful comments.

It looks like you are having a blast on vacation. Eat what you choose and love every minute of it!

  16. Meredith (Pursuing Balance) on August 9, 2009 at 8:22 pm

I love when ww crust is an option!

  19. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on August 9, 2009 at 8:53 pm

Gina, you probably dont need much sleep there b/c you're so jazzed to see your family and friends and don't wanna miss a fun minute, that's great girl! You can sleep back in V town.

As for dealing with harsh comments, you handled yourself like a lady, with grace and composure. There will always be someone with something to say about just about anything in life, and it's hard to tell you to "forget it". I know how it feels to receive that kind of energy b/c I used to have a blog and I allowed anon comments for awhile (still do on my new blog) It's hard to understand the motivation of others sometimes and it's hard for me to keep my chin up. But you my dear..keep on keepin' on 🙂

  20. Anonymous on August 9, 2009 at 9:18 pm

I just love the response to the horrible comment. So classy and intelligent, as usual, Gina!

  21. Ashley Lauren on August 9, 2009 at 9:22 pm

That scenery is gorgeous! And the dreads…wow.

  22. Gina G on August 9, 2009 at 10:59 pm

your amazing gina! way to stick up for yourself, you are a true inspirtation =D

p.s. i agree with Kailey all the way with the pictures!

  23. roseyrebecca on August 9, 2009 at 11:27 pm

Haha your response to that comment was brilliant! I hate when people leave rude comments anonymously. If you're going to say something ridiculous like that, at least reveal who you are. They probably felt bad that they were leaving it to begin with!!

All of your eats look delicious!

  24. Marycela on August 9, 2009 at 11:39 pm

I read your tweet about the bad comment and I'm glad that you responded to them as you did, they really shouldn't come and read your blogs if they don't like what they see.

  25. Emily on August 10, 2009 at 8:36 am

Your weekend sounds great – the perfect mix of relaxation and fun. 🙂

  26. Laura W on August 10, 2009 at 8:56 am

Completely random, but I love the style of houses in the Southwest! There's something about them that's so welcoming & beautiful.

I hear ya on feeling old around your brothers… I have a 13 year old brother!

  27. Kristi (sweet cheeks) on August 10, 2009 at 11:18 am

Looks like such a fun time!!

It looks like your family is very supportive of the way you eat. That is so cool that they make sure there is plenty of stuff to eat that you like. 🙂

  28. Caroline on August 10, 2009 at 11:24 am

Ooh I love it when whole wheat crust is available…your face-size slice looks delish!
    Cute ice cream dishes too:)

  29. britt on August 10, 2009 at 11:32 am

Hey girly… I love love loved meeting up with you this weekend! So much fun. You and your pilot are JUST as adorable in real life as you are on the blog! You guys ooze cuteness!!! I'm so glad you are listing the restaurants you are going in Tucson. I may try some of them!!! 🙂

P.S. Good job talking back to the anon person. That guy can get lost!!

  34. Kate on August 10, 2009 at 1:32 pm

Can we just talk a/b how gorgeous your hair is for a second? Like for real-must be all the good eats for such healthy hair!

I think it took a little bit for my fam to realize my passion to eat well was actually a passion, not a fad diet trend. Now they don't think twice when I choose a different option b/c they see how good I feel inside & out. It's so nice your fam accommodates what you want too!

  35. YogaFab on August 10, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Looks like you had a wonderful time. I'm glad I found your site. I've linked to it from mine. Take Care.

  39. healthy ashley on August 10, 2009 at 3:21 pm

I love trip recaps 🙂 And holy dreadlocks!

  40. healthy ashley on August 10, 2009 at 3:23 pm

ps- I LOVE your response to anon!

  41. TeriLyn on August 10, 2009 at 4:03 pm

What a meanie! But clearly, he/she doesn't follow your blog regularly to even understand why you eat/don't eat they way you do. Just being ignorant and judgmental. Classy self defense – way to go!

  42. Lauren on August 10, 2009 at 6:07 pm

This is the best advice I ever got: When someone says something hurtful to you, take it as a lesson. Thank them for opening your mind to your own sensitivity and weakness. Examine the way in which your ego responded, and shake off the agitation. Then leave them to their own negative thoughts, and forget them.

By the way, to the anonymous commenter, if he or she is reading: Gina isn't perfect, nor does she claim to be. If you read her posts this week, I think in one of them she talked about eating something fatty (an avocado? I forget what exactly) which she would have felt uncomfortable with in the past, as evidence of how she is growing and changing. Gina is kind enough to share her personal journey with us. So you think she is misguided or confused. What good will it do her (or you) to comment about it? The minds of others are out of our control. No matter how hard you try to change them, you will be the one who ends up frustrated. Give it up.

  43. Jerilynne on August 10, 2009 at 10:32 pm

I'm a little behind, but anon- why is is so important to you if Gina does or doesn't eat cheese or chicken, for whatever reason? It might do you some good to take a look at yourself and figure out why you have such a strong negative reaction to the blog you choose to read.

  44. MandyKat on August 11, 2009 at 1:23 pm

I applaud you for leaving the anon comment and responding to it! I've been known to delete comments from my blog.
I don't think the commenter was hateful. I think some people TRULY believe you deprieve yourself by not eating junk foods! Those people are usually the ones who eat a lot of junk food and feel badly about themselves.
    Anyway…
