The acai of my eyeeeeee

Hi friends! How’s the day going? Love your awesome comments on my last post! <3

The day involved a little bit of this = proof that it was a good one. 🙂

Cafe by the bay pb bowl

This is my 2nd favorite acai bowl in San Diego, from Cafe by the Bay. I’m very serious about acai bowl evaluation, from the type of blend they use (acai + apple juice, milk, or yogurt), granola quality, and base-to-topping ratio. Cafe by the Bay’s granola isn’t my favorite (it’s very oaty and I love the crunchier granola) BUT they have an awesome topping ratio aaaaand they use a LOT of peanut butter. It’s a very close second to my beloved Tiki Port.

Today was exciting because there were two awesome features of HIIT It!

Special thanks to my friends at Greatist for featuring an upper body circuit from the book

and to MindBodyGreen for including my tips for building a budget-friendly home gym!

Also, my TRX circuit was posted on the official TRX page. I’m honored and very thankful to have been included. <3

I still haven’t posted pics from last night’s St. Paddy’s festivities. We had dinner here at home, listened to Celtic music, and just enjoyed the evening together.

I made the standard American St. Patricks’ Day meal (which I read on Buzzfeed is about as Irish as spaghetti and meatballs are to the US): corned beef, potatoes, cabbage, grilled cabbage, broiled soda bread, and brownie cupcakes with Bailey’s frosting.

The best part of the night was our virtual dinner with madre, Kyle and Meg. Madre texted us pictures from their Tucson family party,

Kyle and Meg sent us pics of their meal and evening,

Madre and kyles meals

and we sent them pics of ours.

Cheers!

Cheers

(Crazy hair, don’t care haha)

Tonight, I’m off to teach spin and we’re grilling here at home. It’s awesome outside, so hopefully we can take the puppers for a little beach walk.

Hope you’re having a great night! <3

xoxo

My work brought in free acai bowls from a local place in Phoenix. I was in heaven! They were so good!! I Instagrammed a pic of it and a friend from WI said she’s had them & loved them but has never seen them there. Isn’t that crazy? They’re everywhere on the west coast. I assumed everyone must have them. It makes me sad that not everyone has access to the same amount of healthy goodies.

We most definitely do not have these in Illinois :(…Megan, I will be in Scottsdale next Friday for a week though!! Do you have any local recommendations so I can go try the deliciousness??!! Thank you!

Yea, there is only one place in Columbus, Ohio that I was able to find them. I have had a problem finding frozen acai in the grocery to make them at home. 🙁 I really hope this trend makes its way to the Midwest more strongly here soon!!!

Hi Gina! I was SO thrilled to see TRX feature your workout! You go girl! And I’ve only ever had two acai bowls — one fail — one delight. I need to find more, but that aren’t around San Francisco as much as you’d think. Looks like a fun celebration last night! Mine was low-key, the hubby grilled some turkey burgers and we watched House of Cards! 🙂

Do you have trouble finding gluten-free granola? Or do you not bother? I’d love to try the acai bowl trend soon (vacay in PB next week!). We don’t have them here in Seattle (at least I don’t think so?) It’s def a SoCal thing… When I lived in SoCal they were just becoming the rage!

    • Fitnessista on March 18, 2015 at 10:02 pm

not at all! most places here offer gluten-free. if they have gf, i get that instead. excited you’ll get to try it next week!

Meagan! I live in Seattle too, and there IS one place I know if that offers them! I have not tried them yet, but they look big and amazing! They are offered at Healeo on Capital Hill, off Madison st and 15ave. They offer smoothies, juices, acai bowls, etc. Hope you are able to check them out! I plan on trying them more this summer! 🙂

Looks like an amazing day! I kind of goofed on the whole St. Patty’s meal thing…my husband is Irish and I made Mexican for dinner…oh well! I’ll do better next year!

I am super excited to try an acai bowl in Brazil since it is the home of acai! I think it will be amazing.

  7. Stacy @ SweatingTulipz on March 19, 2015 at 5:51 am

I NEED to try an Acai Bowl. You are always raving about them and they make my mouth water! You can tell you and your family share festivities no matter how far apart you are…all of those plates look like they came from the same kitchen! 🙂

    Enjoy the beautiful day!

I like the acai bowl at Honey’s in Encinitas best … Sometimes, we like to go to Swami’s for the surfer-y environment – their acai bowl is good, but more cold and icy.

    • Fitnessista on March 19, 2015 at 4:32 pm

oh i will have to try that one!

  9. Erin @ Her Heartland Soul on March 19, 2015 at 6:45 am

You are giving me serious acai bowl envy!!

  10. Erin @ Erin's Inside Job on March 19, 2015 at 9:21 am

When I visited Brazil I was spoiled by their Acai bowls. It was the first time I had had them and then I ate them for breakfast every morning. They are magical.

  11. Erin on March 19, 2015 at 12:50 pm

THEY also have an AMAZING acai bowl in Kauai!!!! If any of you go you must try them!!!!

    • Fitnessista on March 19, 2015 at 4:30 pm

      ahhh! i would love to!

  12. RR on March 19, 2015 at 2:16 pm

I’m jealous of your acai bowl options in Cali! I’ve never had one and didn’t know they existed until I read about them in your blog. Need to find one in MN.

    • Fitnessista on March 19, 2015 at 4:31 pm

i hope you can find one!

  13. queenoffitness on March 19, 2015 at 7:35 pm

Gina, I can’t remember, did you post a homemade acai bowl recipe? There is no chance of me finding an acai bowl where I live but I think I have seen the sambazon frozen packets somewhere. If I remember they are sort of pricey but I pack lunch everyday and only eat out once a week so this could be my special splurge! Your recommendations are always delicious. BTW, Kind foods makes a wonderful GF granola.
