The Bfast Compromise

Hey hey 😀 How are you? Hope you’ve had a wonderful day!

Thank you so much for the sweet compliments on last night’s event- it was one to remember, fo sho 🙂

We had a lovely morning in LA before heading back to Tucson.

la

We explored the hotel a little bit more:

pool

(The SLS has a gorgeous rooftop pool)

and had a delicious breakfast together.

99% of the time, the Pilot and I agree on where we want to eat. This morning, there was none of that. The Pilot really wanted Pilot food (greasy, cheesy, pastries) and I really wanted Gina food (organic, healthy).

So we compromised—I kept him company at Norm’s while he enjoyed his begian waffle, cheesy eggs and sausage links, and he kept me company at Urth Cafe while I had my b-fast.

The most beautiful vanilla almond milk latte I’ve ever had:

latte

It was an obsession, really 😉

latte (2)

(I haven’t had more than one cup of coffee in forever and the latte was ferosh. I’ve been wired all day!)

+ a Wild smoked salmon and organic egg white scramble, with salad

bfast

It was the best restaurant b-fast I’ve ever had. (<—a bold statement, but true)

The Pilot also had some berries at Urth Cafe for dessert

berries

and was actually slightly bummed, because they had Pilot-friendly food, too. (I tried to tell him but he said I’ve tricked him before.. and since he was a star and ate tempeh bacon on his fettuccini yesterday, I decided to be a sport and just go with him to Norm’s beforehand)

We went back to the hotel, grabbed our stuff, stopped at Supreme to get my bro a hat –it’s his fave- and then went to the airport.

Travel goodies:

goodies

It was SO exciting to be reading People Style Watch and see Tina’s shout out on the very last page for her new book. I started squealing to the Pilot about it 😀 Her book is available for pre-order – I can’t wait to get a copy!

We’re back in Tucson and I’ve been covered in Bella kisses 😀 Going to relax for a little while and then hit up the gym.

Have a great night and I’ll see you in the morning <3

xoxo

Gina

Mayjah congrats to Hayley, the winner of the Excalibur dehydrator(I was waiting to post her name until I heard back from her)!!!! Thank you so much to everyone who entered the giveaway- stay tuned for more 😀

  9. steph on April 13, 2011 at 10:32 pm

I could live on “one cup of coffee” a day with that size mug in my life 😉

    • Fitnessista on April 13, 2011 at 10:35 pm

      amen, right? 🙂

  10. Holly @ The Runny Egg on April 13, 2011 at 10:33 pm

I don’t drink lattes too often but seeing that pic makes me want to plan on stopping for one in the morning 🙂

  11. caitlin on April 13, 2011 at 10:33 pm

I tried Zumba tonight and thought of you. It was awesome!

i’m glad you liked it! 🙂

  12. Jamie on April 13, 2011 at 10:34 pm

My boyfriend and I are the same way with our meal choices! (He actually always reads your blog over my shoulder and asks “whats the fitness-sistahhh doin’!”) bahaha Your choice looks DELICIOUS, so nice that you’re back with your pilot!! 🙂

  13. Carsen on April 13, 2011 at 10:34 pm

Does the Pilot want to go to separate places often? Seems like he doesn’t fight you too much on it 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 13, 2011 at 10:37 pm

nope, we almost always agree. not today, though! haha

  14. Ashley @ Feeding Ashley on April 13, 2011 at 10:37 pm

    Congratulations Haley!
LA looks like so much fun, I’m glad you had a good trip. I have similar issues wiht my boyfriend all the time. He wants grease, I just want a big plate of vegetables. We usually eat Asian food. It’s a nice compromise.

  15. Parita @ myinnershakti on April 13, 2011 at 10:39 pm

Haha! I’ve “tricked” my bf before and now he thinks my taste buds are warped and only like healthy food. It’s a constant struggle for us! That latte was really pretty…I wish I could drink that every morning!

  16. lauren alysse on April 13, 2011 at 10:41 pm

your breakfast looks SO good! ahhhh 🙂

  17. Chelsea on April 13, 2011 at 10:51 pm

LOL! I cant believe he wanted Norm’s. Of all the great places in LA he chose Norms! Guys and their greasy foods. My hubby always likes to splurge when we travel. At least you guys could compromise! And, that pool looks awesome!

  18. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on April 13, 2011 at 11:01 pm

“Wild smoked salmon and organic egg white scramble” — that would be worth the drive up to LA for Scott. That is his kind of food, totally, 100%

Glad you had the best restaurant brekkie of your life. Bold statement, indeed!

And that almond milk latte…beautiful! Food as art. The barista should submit pics of that too foodgawker and tastespotting 🙂

Glad you two had SUCH an awesome trip. Whirlwind and wonderful, all in one it sounds like!

  19. Jenny (Fit Girl Foodie) on April 13, 2011 at 11:19 pm

What a fabulous trip. Your breakfast looks delish although I’ve never been one for a savory breakfast. I made your breakfast cookie a few days ago and I must say it was amazing! I will definitely make it tonight for sure. I got a lot of my blog readers pretty excited to try it 😉

  20. Courtney @ The Granola Chronicles on April 13, 2011 at 11:54 pm

I love that you make compromises – everyone wins!

  21. J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) on April 14, 2011 at 12:24 am

I like Pilot’s taste in berries! That must be fresh whipped cream?? Yum! I’m glad my hubby isn’t too picky. He’ll eat wherever I suggest, lol. But usually not healthy menu options. Can’t win em all! Lol

  22. Runeatrepeat on April 14, 2011 at 12:36 am

I’m normally an iced coffee girl, but I want that latte!

  23. Namaste Gurl on April 14, 2011 at 12:36 am

I always have to compromise like that with my family or friends if they want their kind of food- which is quite different than what I enjoy- and i want mine. Often they’ll be nice and we’ll switch off, my place, then theirs 🙂

  24. kristina@beancakes on April 14, 2011 at 1:39 am

you look so cute in your sunglasses!

  25. Laura on April 14, 2011 at 2:37 am

Which Urth caffe did you go to?! I go to school at USC and go to the Urth in downtown LA almost every weekend! The egg white and salmon scramble is definitely a favorite…if you ever get a chance to go back, try the egg white and spinach breakfast panini on organic whole wheat bread or the whole grain belgian waffle!!!

  26. Cait @ Beyond Bananas on April 14, 2011 at 5:43 am

Salmon and Scrambled eggs.. looks so yummy. Love it when a meal at a restaurant knocks my socks off!

  27. Ruth on April 14, 2011 at 6:17 am

I love that you both had the breakfast you wanted!

  28. Katherine: Unemployed on April 14, 2011 at 6:46 am

LOOOOVE this month’s issue of real simple! Hope you do too

  29. Katie on April 14, 2011 at 7:11 am

Urth Cafe rocks! There are always celebs there too, surprised you didn’t spot any , but I think you were in love with the coffee too much to notice anything else ; )

    Loved your breakfast, sounds amazing!

Have a great day love! xoxo

I tricked my husband into eating lentil burgers last night. It didn’t end well. 🙂

  31. Chelsa on April 14, 2011 at 8:00 am

wow that latte looks so good. I always get almond milk lattes at Whole Foods but that one looks much better. Yum

  32. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on April 14, 2011 at 8:21 am

I’ve never tried salmon and eggs together (yes, that probably makes me a bit naive and sheltered!) but it sounds delicious! Might have to try whipping up a version of my own this weekend!

  33. Claire @ Live and Love to Eat on April 14, 2011 at 8:37 am

Your posts made me REALLY want to visit LA. I’m sure they have SO many fabulous restaurants.

I’ve had crab benedict before, but never salmon with eggs. Looks yummy!

  34. Errign on April 14, 2011 at 8:41 am

That egg white & salmon scramble looks BALLER. These posts really made me want to visit LA!

  35. Colleen @ The Lunchbox Diaries on April 14, 2011 at 9:06 am

Hi, Gina! Where did you get that cute blazer you’re wearing in the pic with the latte? I’ve been on the lookout for one just like that!

  36. Nicole @ Fresh & Fit on April 14, 2011 at 10:18 am

Is there a pig in that pool or am I seeing things?

That latte does look beautiful and delicious. I want to go to LA now too!

  37. Jenny @ Fitness Health and Food on April 14, 2011 at 10:26 am

haha! we definitely have to compromise on our restaurant choices too! although usually I’m not so good at being patient to wait for a meal! 🙂

    Safe Travels! 🙂

  38. Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf on April 14, 2011 at 10:44 am

I have that problem at home occasionally. The husband will get the munchies and scrounge for some “junk food” to eat, but I don’t really keep junk food in the house! And rarely do I have prepared or packaged food. He usually ends up eating all the brown rice on days like this. Or he goes out and gets a grease-fest barbacoa burrito from the Hispanic market.

  39. LisaG on April 14, 2011 at 10:56 am

Your breakfast looks perfect; as I always choose savory. I sometimes make an egg/tuna scramble. Sounds gross, but tasty. How do they make the coffee design?

    • katie on April 14, 2011 at 6:44 pm

The design comes from how the barista pours the milk into the cup so that some of the crema (basically the top layer of espresso) stays intact and some gets swirled in with the milk. I’m super impressed they were able to get almond milk to do that- now I’m definitely going to have to try for myself!

      • Fitnessista on April 14, 2011 at 9:56 pm

if it works, let me know!! i’m seriously considering getting an espresso maker just so i can re-create that latte!

  40. Sylvia on April 14, 2011 at 11:00 am

OOh whenever cafes have almond milk for lattes I get so excited!!! That latte is gorgeous. I want.

Haha he just couldn’t compromise and had to have greasy food! Was he hungover by any chance? Haha

  41. Laura @ prettylittlewords on April 14, 2011 at 11:36 am

That is so cute that you guys compromised on breakfast! I’ve done that before, but it stinks because it’s so much more fun eating at the same time!! The place you went sounds deeeeelish 😀

  42. Sable @ SquatLikeALady on April 14, 2011 at 11:54 am

You make me want to go to LA right nowww!

    That latte is beautiful!

  43. Moni'sMeals on April 14, 2011 at 11:54 am

So glad you made it to URTH! I knew by your beverage right away. Bummer the pilot could not really find something, there is A TON for all there in my eyes. 🙂 Maybe having greens on your plate in the am is a bit much though for most. hehe.

  44. Ahzahdeh on April 14, 2011 at 1:29 pm

Living in Los Angeles, I run into this problem quite a bit. Usually we have to make quite a few stops in the morning just to satisfy the both of us. Luckily, we’ve found quite a few cafes in this lovely city that offer foods we both like. So glad you had fun! Come back and visit us again! (We do know how to party…)

  45. Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife on April 14, 2011 at 1:32 pm

HAHA, that compromise sounds like something me and the husband would have to do too. Awesome 🙂

  46. Christin@purplebirdblog on April 14, 2011 at 1:43 pm

Alex and I have totally done compromised meals like that before! 🙂

  47. Dee on April 14, 2011 at 2:34 pm

You went to Urth! I LOVE that place!

  48. Doc (The Healthy PhD) on April 15, 2011 at 8:23 pm

Ha! My favorite line in the post ‘…he said i’ve tricked him before…’ I’m so serious that my fiance has said the same thing. We’re both lucky that our men are willing to eat ‘our’ food sometimes and don’t fight too hard.

    • Fitnessista on April 15, 2011 at 9:28 pm

you’re right, we are lucky 🙂
