The End of a Detox

Hiiiii 😀 Happy Sunday!! How’s your day been?

Thank you so much for the fun comments on my detox is over celebration 🙂 I got to re-live some of the delicious eats again for breakfast this morning.

So, here are some more deets on last night’s glorious meal of justice:

-We wined at dined at Cafe Poca Cosa, which is hands down, my favorite place to feast. They change the menu daily, according to what’s fresh at the market. Two produce shipments arrive each day, so if they run out of something, or the chef changes her mind, they’ll change the menu right then and there.

The servers carry around a large chalkboard with the entree selections written on it. There are usually about 8 total items- a mix of chicken, beef, fish, veg or pork and a “Plato Poca Cosa” which is a surprise- the chef makes you whatever she’s feeling and usually it’s a taster plate of a few different things. They WILL NOT let you alter your entree in any way. Every ingredient is there for a reason and if you try to alter it, they say that it compromises the integrity of the dish. They’re hardcore over there 🙂

-Every entree is accompanied with a HUGE fresh salad- a mix of greens, veg and fruit. Usually you’ll find a random artichoke, hunk of pineapple or slices of cantaloupe in your salad 🙂 They also serve the meals with fresh rice, beans, tortillas, chips and salsa.

-Cafe Poca Cosa is the epitome of foodgasm. If you visit Tucson, make reservations WAY in advance (they book out every night) and buckle up for the most legendary meal of your life.

After breakfast, I cleaned up around the casa,

gave Bella a bath:

rocked out *this* Bodyrock workout

made a smoothie

(x3- I just felt like drinking out of a mug)

got a hefty bit of work done

and took Bella to meet Michele and her puppies for a walk around the mall. We went to La Encantada, which is an outdoor mall, so it’s totally cool to bring your pupper to shop 🙂

I packed up an amazeball each for Michele and I, and Bella and I shared the carrots in the car 😉

Some final words on the detox:

Since I finished the 30 day detox, you’ll pretty much never have to hear about it again after today. Wahoo!! 😉 Honestly, I was a little afraid about doing to the detox thang when my doc told me I needed to. I didn’t know if I’d get flak from others thinking I was doing it for weight loss purposes, and was worried that my eats would be super boring. Thank you for always being amazing and sticking around with me, even though it wasn’t the most fun thing.. hopefully I added in enough *other stuff* to make up for the lack of exciting eats. 😉

How I feel:

I feel like doing the detox helped me to assess my fuel choices and also get back on the way I like to eat. When I first got to Tucson in December, right before Christmas, I was a little bit of a mess. Moving everything across the country was no joke (packing 13 HUGE FedEx boxes, carrying them downstairs, shipping them, packing the car, wrangling pups, the situation as a whole), but I was so thankful to have my mom drive with me from Orlando to Tucson. When I got here, I jumped into work, bought a business, and kept myself busy so I wouldn’t dwell on the fact that my husband is doing the war thang and I had to start from scratch…again. When this was all going on, I was just making sure to get enough fuel, without paying attention to balance. I was eating a lot of carbs, a lot of sugar, and felt pretty tired and icky. Slowly, I  was starting to get back into the swing of things, but feel like the detox was beneficial in helping me get back on the proverbial horse.

By following the eating plan (for the most part, heh heh), it helped me to crave REAL whole foods again, like I used to. The only bummer was missing out on some of my favorite things (oats, goat cheese, salmon, NUT BUTTER), but as soon as I could have them back, I was a happy kid 🙂 My homeopathic doc has been pretty much amazing and I’m excited to get tested again to see if my hormone levels have evened out.

So what’s my opinion on detoxes:

I think, if done very occasionally and for the right reasons, detoxes can be a bueno thing. The help your body rid itself of excess toxins, since it’s not using energy to break down difficult-to-digest food. Detoxes *should* be done for health reasons, not for weight loss or “quick fix” purposes- any weight you lose on a weight loss detox or cleanse will be gained back, I promise. If done for weight loss, a detox can be extremely scary and harmful for your body. The BEST and only way to achieve a healthy weight is through clean eating and moderate exercise. Please be smart and talk to a doc or RD if your considering a detox plan. The entire 30 days, I was taking a boatload of prescribed supplements to make sure I was getting all of the nutrients I needed.

Some detox plans that I think are legit:

-Raw Food Detox Diet

-Crazy Sexy Diet

Women’s Health Detox Diet

Will I do one again?

For right now, I’m going to say no. I like to eat what I like to eat, not what someone else tells me to 😉

I think it’s cute that you eat a salad for breakfast! Most people usually start the day off with a sweet treat 🙂

Love it, Congrats that you stuck with the Detox. I just started CSD detox on Weds and feel so much better already. I was way out toxic, sugar/carb addiction, stomach problems, which I am really thinking are gluten intolerent problems, so no more gluten for 21 days and after 4 I am rejoicing. Off caffeine 4 days of a headache, the stuff can’t be good for you, and that’s just 1 cup of joe a day. I am having to eat more since I have 1/2 marathon in a couple weeks, but it’s all good & balanced.

Can you please share the supplements you take to balance your hormones? I’m struggling right now after going off bc with my skin and hormones. Thanks! 🙂 Love your blog!

I think what I love most is that you realized your appreciation for REAL food again. It’s so easy to get caught up in life and forget about what we put into our bodies.

HAHHAA just catching up on posts after a weekend away and Bella made me burst out laughing! I work with dogs and watching them do “zoomies”, as we call it, is THE funniest. My little mixed breed oddball doggy does them after her walks, except she does them ON the couch or my bed, like running tiny laps back and forth! The pause when they stop and look at you all wild-eyed kills me every single time 😀

“zoomie”!! love that phrase 🙂 cracks me up every time, too
