The latest ‘fix

Or life lessons: eventually you get to that point where you can’t wear allthetrends.

April2016 stitch fix

Hi friends! How was your day? Hope it was an amazing one. A highlight of mine: I got my first (and only, haha) tattoo. I’ll share pics and more about the whole experience in Friday Faves.

For now, let’s talk about an exciting development: Stitch Fix has shoes! A new beast has been unleashed and this adds a fun layer to the “stay or go” deliberation. If you’re new to Stitch Fix, I’ve been a huge fan of the company for years now. You fill out an extensive style questionnaire, and a personal stylist selects clothing (and now shoes!) to suit your style preferences, in your size. You receive the box, pay for what you’d like to keep, and send the rest back.

Whenever I get a box, I cradle it a little and sing a sweet love song. It makes me so excited, especially since time to try on clothes, by myself, at a mall, is currently limited. I can try on everything at my own convenience (and ask for your advice via Snapchat!) and send back the pieces that won’t work.

Latest fix 2

Here’s what was in the latest fix:

Skies are Blue Strucker Mixed Material Top

Skies are Blue Strucker Mixed Material Top

(with Joe’s Jean shorts, Prada sneaks <— bought through MyHabit, and Marc by Marc Jacobs watch. Similar here on sale)

I knew right away that this was a keeper. It’s kind of hard to tell from the photo, but the bottom fabric layer is a soft beige. I love how neutral it is, and that the material is really thick and nice quality. Verdict: KEEP

Market & Spruce Jenson Embroidery Detail Top

Market Spruce Jenson Embroidery Detail Top

Coral is one of my favorite colors to wear. I thought the neckline was fun, and love light, casual tank tops. But, this one didn’t feel *special* when I put it on. (I also think it was because I couldn’t find my fave white jeans to pair with it.) It was just ok, so I figured I’ll send it back. Verdict: RETURN

Dear John Finnegan Roll Cuff Chino Short

These shorts are amazing for spring/summer, and have a cute preppy vibe. I could see myself wearing them with baggy tank tops, my low-top sneaks, or with a white button-up. But when I put them on, they were too big and had an awkward fit.

Dear John Finnegan Roll Cuff Chino Short

(Muscle atrophy: another post for another day. I’ll be crushing those leg presses again soon.)

Verdict: RETURN

Diba Tango Fringe Sandal

Shoes

The fringe sandal. I opened these from the shoe bag and they felt like small creatures in my hand. My mom started laughing, and she said, “No.” So I Snapchatted what she said, and my brother’s girlfriend immediately texted my mom to say they were awesome. Sure enough, I googled fringe sandals and they’re a thing.

I debated for a second, but they cut my legs off at a weird spot (short legs do not bode well in this situation)

Shoes 2

and I knew I wouldn’t wear them enough to justify it.

Since I’m not tall, and am not going to Coachella,

the verdict: RETURN

Sometimes I know when I’m a little too old for a trend, but there are other times when I’ll embrace something that seems a bit more junior because I genuinely love it. Case in point: the romper.

Market & Spruce Kesey Knit Romper

I knew right away that this was a keeper. I loved the bold print, and the fun colors. It also made me happy to see that rompers are back in style because I appreciate anything that is an entire outfit on its own. The waist doesn’t hit at the ideal spot for me, but I was just like whatevs and knew I’ll be wearing it a ton this summer, chasing around with the kids or over my swimsuit for quick beach tips. Verdict: KEEP. I wore it today 🙂

Market Spruce Kesey Knit Romper

(with Lilly Pulitzer for Target sandals)

So tell me friends: what types of sandals are you loving this season? I definitely want to get a pair of gladiators and probably a new pair of Miller sandals since I wear them every day.

xoxox

G

In full transparency, I paid for the above items using Stitch Fix credit from referrals to the brand over the past couple of years. Thank you so much for your support! I’m thrilled that many of you have tried it and love it as much as I do <3

Last Stitch Fix post is here

PS. If you’re in the shopping mood, the Shopbop sale is happening now! 25% off with the code INTHEFAM 🙂 Some of my faves: this off shoulder dress, this pocket tee dress and this double layer crew dress.

What’s wrong with mom shorts? :/ I usually don’t get miffed by simple words, but I’m a young 30s mom of 2 young girls and I think the shorts looked great. Now I have to worry about someone thinking I’m wearing “mom shorts”. Which is a bummer, because I’m a mom, and I wear shorts. Also, I’ve been working out a lot and the only shorts I feel comfortable in are similar to shorts you posted. All that being said, I love your blog and think you write wonderfully. Thank you for always being so open and informative about different topics.

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2016 at 10:34 pm

oh man, i didn’t mean that to be offensive at all. i can edit the phrasing <3 so sorry about that and thank you for reading

    • mary on April 7, 2016 at 8:39 am

When someone says “mom shorts” or “mom jeans” they don’t mean “shorts a mother would wear”, they mean, “shorts MY mother would wear”. It’s not a slam to mothers, it’s saying it’s a generation too old looking. : )

      • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 9:04 am

        Yep that’s exactly it

  2. Lindsay on April 7, 2016 at 3:40 am

I’m on a quest for the perfect pair of gladiators! I’ve found some cute dupes for the infamous Valentino pair – on Target’s website of all places – but they’ve been sold out. I also love my gold Jack Rogers sandals! They’re so comfortable and classic….even if my husband thinks they’re hideous 🙂

    • Alexis caldwell on April 7, 2016 at 4:16 am

I love my Jacks!!! Wish they had a bit more support though. I can only wear them for a short time before my back is screaming!

  3. Alexis caldwell on April 7, 2016 at 4:17 am

You should keep the coral top!!! I love the neckline.

  4. Sam @ Barrister's Beet on April 7, 2016 at 4:50 am

That romper looks adorable on you! I also love the white top you kept. I can never make cuffed shorts work – I don’t think they pair well with muscular thighs. Good fix!

  5. Jessica on April 7, 2016 at 4:52 am

I feel like stitch fix is more of a bust lately, seems like everyone is just keeping one or two things. Maybe it’s targeted more towards 20-somethings than a 30 yr old mom like me.

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:28 am

i feel like we’re in an in-between stage, which makes it harder to shop for clothes in general. you want to look cute and fun without it looking too “young” (because like you said, mom), but at the same time, you don’t want pieces that are frumpy or overly conservative. at least that’s how it is for me!

  6. Meagan Leanne on April 7, 2016 at 5:25 am

I bought my first romper a few weeks ago but it’s been too cold to wear it yet. That one looks great on you. I actually really loved those sandals and I think they looked nice on you based on the photos. I’m a huge sandals person and I’ll wear them at the first hint of warmth, even if it goes cold again.

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:26 am

same! any second i can wear sandals, i do it. even if it’s warm enough in january 😉

  7. Shannon on April 7, 2016 at 7:02 am

Cute choices! I would really like to know how much the individual pieces go for when you do stitch fix reviews–I have been on the fence about trying it and can’t really get a good idea about how much items cost.

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:26 am

i can include the cost if you’d like!
      white top: 54
      embroidered tank: 44
      romper: 64
      shorts: 58
      sandal: 70

      xoxo

  8. Jill on April 7, 2016 at 7:04 am

Gina, did you do Stitch Fix while you were pregnant? I see that they have a maternity line and was wondering how it is. I’ve been thinking about signing up forever and am newly pregnant (12 weeks) and was wondering if it was worth doing while preggo. Any advise would be appreciated! Thanks 🙂

  9. LeeAnn on April 7, 2016 at 7:20 am

Love the Romper…I need to man up and try one. They are so stinking adorable! I wanted to love those shorts, maybe a different cut 🙂 The stripes are super cute though!

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:22 am

same! i loved the stripes but the cut wasn’t working for me

  10. Taylor on April 7, 2016 at 7:46 am

Love the romper… they are my favorite on a hot summer day…except when I need to pee 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:20 am

haha exactly. you have to be a little strategic 😉

  11. Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment on April 7, 2016 at 7:58 am

Adorable clothes. You look great. Cute sandals. I actually liked the other pair too. Can’t wait to see your tattoo.

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:20 am

      thank you, friend!

  12. Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me on April 7, 2016 at 8:02 am

Cannot wait to see the tattoo! I hope you like it now that is permanently there. I’m sure it looks wonderful! As for this fix, I absolutely LOVE the Market and Spruce Embroidery top on you. That color compliments your skin tone incredibly well. I’m bummed it didn’t wow you, but I totally get that feeling of not feeling like yourself in an outfit.

Your hair in this post is beautiful too! It looks full and healthy. Love the volume.

Have a beautiful Thursday Gina! Stay dry out there in our rainy San Diego. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:20 am

i absolutely love it- so happy i finally went for it!
thank you! i wasn’t crazy about it. thanks for the sweet hair compliment too <3
hope you're having a great week. today's rain is awesome
      xoxo

  13. Jessie R on April 7, 2016 at 8:10 am

Love what you kept! I’m so glad rompers are still in this year :). I had two custom made (super long torso makes it difficult to wear them off the rack) for for me while we were travelling in Vietnam last fall, and I’m excited to wear them here when it gets warmer!

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:20 am

      ahhh that is amazing!

  14. Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious on April 7, 2016 at 8:21 am

I adore the romper! I was eyeing a couple up at H&M last weekend that I may have to go back for. The H&M outlet is three blocks from my house. DANGEROUS!

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:19 am

      that is VERY dangerous

  15. Lauren @ Oh Hey! I Like That! on April 7, 2016 at 8:31 am

Seriously, fringe sandals are a thing? Ugh.
But the romper and the top you kept are adorable!

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:19 am

      haha. i was like i just can’t
      thank you!!

  16. Hillary on April 7, 2016 at 9:15 am

love love love the white blouse and romper!! good picks 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:18 am

      thanks, friend <3

  17. Melissa on April 7, 2016 at 9:21 am

I laughed at the snapchat of your mom saying no to the sandals. They wouldn’t be my deal either, but I think you could pull them off!

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:18 am

      she was cracking up hahah

  18. Amanda on April 7, 2016 at 9:22 am

I love the idea of a romper… But then the small voice in my head wonders how you go to the bathroom in one. Do you take the whole thing off?!?! Weird thought, I know. haha

    • Kelly on April 7, 2016 at 9:41 am

^^YES!! I wonder the same thing and that’s what’s always kept me away!

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:17 am

haha jumpsuits are even worse 😉 you kind of take it off but hold it at your knees so it doesn’t go to the floor or anything like that

  19. Anna @ THE POSH BODY on April 7, 2016 at 10:06 am

I’ve always wanted stitch fix to work for me but nothing ever fits right. After 4 tries I gave up. BUT this was years ago when they first opened…might be time to try again now that the kinks are worked out. You definitely got some cute stuff 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 10:16 am

yeah it might have been some growing pains! they usually nail my size, and it varies depending on brands. they’re good at seeing what pieces run larger and smaller

  20. Tracy on April 7, 2016 at 11:11 am

    You scored a great fix!!

    Sandals… I can’t live without my Birkenstocks!

  21. Juliana on April 7, 2016 at 12:34 pm

rainbow sandals… All. The. Time. Haha.

What can I say, I’m not on trend. I just like what I like.

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2016 at 12:43 pm

i still love my rainbows, too!

  22. Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona on April 7, 2016 at 1:34 pm

That blue romper is super cute!

  23. Tricia @ A Couple of Dashes on April 7, 2016 at 1:34 pm

I love your picks! I have a very hit or miss relationship with Stitch Fix. I’ve had some where I kept one or two things and others where I’ve sent everything back so it’s been a little hard to justify. I’m going to give it another try though and see how it goes!

  24. Melissa C on April 7, 2016 at 3:03 pm

I loved the coral top on you!!!

  25. Bethany on April 7, 2016 at 3:15 pm

Super cute! I am 39 weeks preggo and cannot wait to have fun with clothes again!!!!!

  26. Cassie T on April 8, 2016 at 1:38 am

I recently bought my first romper! It’s similar to yours in fit and also a blue pattern – I feel like the pattern and loose fit make it almost look like a dress so it’s a little less intimidating to wear something so different 🙂

  27. Erika S. on April 8, 2016 at 5:40 pm

I love the fringe sandals trend! I actually bought a pair 2 years ago that were just fantastic. Oh and rompers…I will continue to rock them. I bought 2 really cute ones that I could dress up or down a few years ago. Each year I add 1-2 to my wardrobe. While I love them, they are definitely a commitment once on. I have the bladder of a 5 yr old so once you start having to go, it can be annoying…but it’s always about how it looks right?! hahaha!

Here are some I’m loving right now…although they seem too short (i.e. for the young girls)…but I’m still considering them:

those rompers are CUTE. i always worry about them being too short, too!

I laughed out loud at that—story of my life!
