The other side

After years of my devotion to Asics, I crossed to the other side.

Brooks

Also after a little too many years, I got my stride checked out again and picked up some new kicks. My current Asics are toast, so new cushion feels sooooo nice. The real test will be tomorrow’s long run- here’s hoping that they treat me well. As shoe destiny would have it, they were on clearance, too. Victory all around.

Today ended up being a gloriously relaxing day. We all slept in -Liv got up at 7:30!- and then I just had to work the morning. I had the afternoon covered so that Liv and I could attend a friend’s baby shower. Her little guy or girl will be here in January, and they decided to wait and be surprised. When I was shopping for the gift last night at Target, it made me realize how hard it is to shop for gender-neutral baby stuff. Everything is clearly pink or blue, but it made me wonder if next time we’ll wait to find out if the baby is a boy or girl. It seems like it would be good motivation to make it through labor 😉

I didn’t snap any pics of the shower itself -it was absolutely beautiful- but we had a blast.

The tiny party animal crashed as soon as we got home,

Snoozing

and I made some more food since I could only eat so much at the shower while also feeding Liv and keeping her entertained.

An amazeball,

Ball

(almond butter and jelly is the current fave)

and farm box fresh salad with kale, mixed greens, basil, beets, goat cheese, almonds and Bragg’s dressing.

Salad 13

This weekend, the Pilot and I have a fun project we want to tackle for the house and are going to start making holiday gift lists for friends and family. This way I can attack Black Friday and Cyber Monday and who knows, maybe get our shopping finished before Christmas eve? That would be a major first.

Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

xoxo

Gina

What are your weekend fitness plans? After taking 4 days of this week to recover from the half, I’m excited to hit next week with a bang! Anyone doing a Turkey Trot or similar Thanksgiving event?

Wow Liv just keeps getting bigger and bigger! Every pic you post she seems to keep growing into herself. So good that you’re listening to your body! I also took some time off this week–at the beginning of the week I sprained my ankle doing treadmill interval sprints. It’s painful to walk now. So–I’ve been icing like crazy and trying to cross train with swimming. But I do miss Turbo fire so much! There’s really nothing like it. When you were injured were you able to to Turbofire or did you completely lay off of it?

I LOVE my Brooks running shoes. Last time I went to the running store and tried on 6 pair before I decided on the same Brooks pair I already had haha. That salad looks amazing right now, I need some dinner 🙂

Welcome to the Brooks club! They’ve been my favorites for years- never let me down!

I didn’t find out the gender of my baby until she was born, and it was definitely a motivator during labor. And the plus side of those gender neutral/ boys clothes was that they made great hand me downs for my nephew!

i think that picture is such a beautiful representation of motherhood. it makes me remember that i was that little at one time and my mom could carry me like that too, so so sweet.

I went on my first ‘real’ outside run this morning, for a Turkey Trot 5k! In Florida, I have just about given up running outdoors during the summer so since having my baby last winter I am just beginning to venture outside again – I was painfully reminded of why I used to wear Brooks for pavement running and not Asics. I’ll be reverting soon. Even after so long, I was happy to brave the 46 degrees and improved on my time. I did think about your recent half marathon during my little 5k and it helped me do my best, so thanks for the motivation! 🙂

I too used to be an Asics running shoe lover but now I love Brooks and Mizuno running shoes because of how they support my arches. That farm fresh salad looks amazing! I hope you have a great weekend 🙂

I do love my brooks adrenalines. Hope they work for you. And the pic of you and Liv is so precious.

  11. Erin @ Girl Gone Veggie on November 17, 2012 at 10:11 pm

I have never tried Mizunos but I’ve heard grate things. Livi looks like a little tired ballerina in that pic. ;p

I just switched from Asics to Brooks, too, and I love them! I’d been getting the same pair of Asics year after year (just the newer model each year), and when I went to replace them this summer, the saleswoman had me try out the Brooks. I was nervous to switch it up, but I’m really happy with them. I hope you enjoy them!

I’ve been wearing Brooks for years. Love’em!

Bought new running shoes today too! And looking forward to Thursday’s Turkey Trot 🙂 Liv is just getting so big! Too stinkin’ cute.

I have those same shoes! Waiting to find out was one of the best things that I did. I had a natural birth and when I was at the point of “I feel like I’m dying I can’t do this”, my doc checked me I was at 10 cm and she told me to get out of the birthing tub because it was time to push. It was like a second wave of energy because I was going to FINALLY find out what we were having. The best surprise ever.

  16. Bek @ Crave on November 18, 2012 at 1:06 am

I’d like to be surprised with my baby, but I’d also like to be organised so knowing the gender would be pretty important for that 😛 I’m an asics lover too, and don’t know if I could ever leave them. But yay for bargain shoes and hopefully they love your feet 😉

  17. Joanne on November 18, 2012 at 4:16 am

That is a gorgeous picture of you and Liv!

We didn’t find out the gender with our first two babies and I loved the surprise. With our third, we did find out so we could prepare our daughter (she wanted a sister!) and it felt so different to know lol.

    Your project sounds interesting!

  18. Jess on November 18, 2012 at 5:25 am

I love that picture of you two! And liv’s little skirt is so cute!!

  19. Danielle@cleanfoodcreativefitness on November 18, 2012 at 8:44 am

That picture of you and Liv is priceless! I am in desperate need of new sneakers. This post inspired to get searching for some 🙂

  20. Jen on November 18, 2012 at 9:48 am

I LOVE my Brooks! So enjoy yours!!

I think I’m going to do a last minute sign-up for a Thanksgiving event – this way I feel good about eating the goods. [I’ll enjoy them either way – but not feel as guilty if I kicked butt in the early morning]

Today I’m going to head back to my second happy placed for some lower body and ab work – then off to a vinyasa candle light flow for Namaste November! LOVING the challenge!!

We are having our first baby in February- and the sex is a surprise. My husband and I just figured it was one of those “true surprises” that neither one of us could covertly find out and we like the idea of finding out together as he or she is born. I don’t know if we’ll do it again should we have a 2nd, but for now we are loving it…and buying a lot of grey and cream items!

Don’t forget about small bussiness Saturday! Support local economy 😉

Love that po true of you and liv.

  23. Gina @HealthLoveandChocolate on November 18, 2012 at 6:02 pm

I’m curious to know how the new shoes compare to your Asics since I am in the market for a new pair. I always pile my salads with nuts and goat cheese, so delicious!

  24. Jo on November 18, 2012 at 7:57 pm

what are you thoughts on having different sneakers for every activity? I recently got over a stress fracture bc of old sneakers.

    • Fitnessista on November 18, 2012 at 10:09 pm

i think in theory, it’s awesome, but can be really expensive. i think you should definitely have one pair for running only, and another pair for everything else. the thing is, my running shoes often turn into my everything else shoes

  25. Amber @ Busy, Bold, Blessed on November 19, 2012 at 9:47 am

I’m doing a Burn Off the Bird 5K on Saturday!

  26. Julie on November 21, 2012 at 11:40 am

OMG Liv looks so big in that pic! With you holding her, it gives perspective to how big she’s gotten. What a doll!
