The Training Plan

Hi friends Smile Happy Sunday! Hope you’re having an amazing morning.

dogs

Bella has been playing with her cousin Tucker pretty often- I don’t think she’s been too lonely, but I like to give her doggy play time just to make sure.

Here is a beautiful picture of Viessy that her new family sent me:

vies2

They said she’s adjusting really well and they fall more in love with her everyday <3 Makes my heart happy.

So, this morning after my first training run (more on that in a sec), I joined my Nana and Tata for breakfast at the Delicious Egg.

good egg

The above domination consisted of:

Chocolate-covered strawberry flavored coffee (which was just as glorious as it sounds)

coffee

Plain steel cut oats with blueberries

oats

and a scrambled eggy, which I dotted with hot sauce

egg

The egg wasn’t really neon yellow- the iPhone did that Winking smile

Since some of you guys asked how I’m liking it so far- I LOVE it. Don’t get me wrong, the keypad sucks big time (I miss having real keys), but as far as convenience, speed and fun extra stuff goes… my life has been changed. Rest in peace, Crackberry.

This morning’s run actually wasn’t too shabby, mostly because I had these things to entertain me:

tucson 002

Podcasts!

I can’t really listen to music in the car or while I work out anymore. I prefer motivational CDs or books in the car, and have fallen in love with listening to podcasts. The ones I rolled with on today’s run were Money Girl and The Daily Boost. The Daily Boost is perfect for lighting a fire under your booty (which I needed- there is a lot to do this week!!) and I highly recommend both of them. I just figure that I can exercise my brain at the same time I exercise my body Winking smile

As far as the half goes, I’m just doing it for fun with a friend. I’m not trying to beat a certain time, which is why I think I got injured after last year’s princess half.

I’m also not going to blog about my training or post pictures of my Garmin stats.

There are a thousand run blogs out there, but it’s really not my bread and butter, so I’m gonna roll with blogging about the stuff I love (like fitness, recipes, videos and shenanigans)

Speaking of shenanigans.. I’m off on a Sunday adventure with my madre and nana.

Have a great day!

xoxo

Gina

Any awesome podcasts I should check out??

See ya in the morning with Winter Shape Up 2011 Smile

Still can’t believe you rehomed her. I’m pretty sure id die if I ever was asked to do that.

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2011 at 7:21 pm

if your comment was to make me feel bad, you succeeded

      • Fitnessista on January 16, 2011 at 7:35 pm

and i never hope you find yourself in my situation and having to make such a difficult decision.
breaking up a dog fight, taking your bleeding dog who almost died to the animal hospital, all while your husband is deployed, and then taking a year to figure out a good situation for everyone while keeping the dogs separated and happy is not a picnic :/

        • Molly on January 16, 2011 at 7:39 pm

I am so sorry you had to make such a hard decision. It in no way could have been easy! I commend you for how strong you are to sacrifice your companionship with your pet. Im so glad you found a home that will keep you updated!

        • Hallie on January 16, 2011 at 7:51 pm

The night I got engaged, my fiance’s mom was dog-sitting and my dog and her dog got into a bloddy fight. It was so traumatic for all involved. They used to be BFFs and now can’t play together ever. What you had to deal with was worse and you had to do it alone. I can’t even imagine. You know you did the right thing and that is all that matters.

        • Katie~RunfortheBikini on January 16, 2011 at 8:03 pm

My sister recently had to find a new home for her one of her dogs as it nipped at her 2-yr old a few times and he needed stitches.

Not a fun situation, but you have to do what is best for you and your family.

        • Sara on January 16, 2011 at 8:08 pm

Maybe ‘a’ was just trying to express that she can’t believe you were capable of that, in terms of coping with it, and just doesn’t have the skills to say it in a way that doesn’t come across as nasty and judgemental?
You have a done a very responsible thing, finding Viesa a new home and taking your time about it. When I moved in with my partner I had to find a new home for my cat because she was scared of other cats and also blind, therefore needed someone willing to put in the time to help her learn to navigate the new environment. It was a wrench to have to part with her, but she would never have managed in a complicated environment with three other cats. She has now passed, but was happy in her new home for many years. Some animals just need to be an only child. 😀

        • Christina on January 16, 2011 at 8:57 pm

I personally think her comment could be taken a couple different ways. Maybe “a” didn’t mean it like you interpreted. Sounds like you jumped to a conclusion.

        • Catherine on January 17, 2011 at 12:58 pm

My little dog (i.e. my daughter) is great to me, but she was abused before I got her and she gets very nervous in a lot of situations, so she….tends to bite. I’ve tried everything with her, and she is a lot better now than she used to be, but she still resorts to snapping when she’s freaked. Small children also make her nervous, so I know that when my husband and I decide to have children, I might have to make a decision about Bridget. My husband and I are both in the Air Force, but he deploys a lot more than I do since he flies (I don’t). Bridget is my companion and best friend and the idea of having to make a decision like the one you did makes me so sad. Your situation makes me see that something good can come out of something bad. I only hope that if and when I have to make a decision, it will turn-out like your situation with Viesa.

    • Kayla on January 16, 2011 at 7:41 pm

I think it is a great thing that she went through everything she did to find a great home for her dog. Yes it is sad that it had to be done but I think given all of the reasons it had to be done. At least she didn’t just go dump the dog at the pound like so many people would do.
Way to kick at such a sore topic.

      • kate on January 17, 2011 at 3:13 pm

Well said Kayla. Gina, you know you guys did the best you could to make sure the pups were living in harmony and sometimes it just doesnt work out. Viesa is having a blast at college and Im sure loving being the only child!

    • Amanda @ RunningOnCoffee on January 16, 2011 at 8:00 pm

I think Fitnessista did the right thing. I can’t imagine keeping two dogs that did not get along together in the same house. It was great that she could find a loving home for Viesa herself, rather than turning her over to a shelter. My greyhound was attacked by German Shepherds at the dog park almost two years ago, and luckily after the trip to the animal hospital on a Sunday night, she survived. I think I was traumatized though, and I can’t imagine living in fear that that would happen again in my own home.

    • nat on January 17, 2011 at 9:08 am

I still don’t get what was so bad about this? it didn’t sound malicious to me at all… if anything it almost sounds empathetic.

    • Susan on November 6, 2011 at 11:11 pm

“A” should drink a steaming tall glass of poopjuice.

  2. Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine on January 16, 2011 at 5:37 pm

Ooooh I forgot that Winter Shape Up starts tomorrow!! I loved it last year and can’t wait to start again this year- I’ll probably be a week behind though, to continue taking BP classes while I still have access to them 🙂

Glad Viesa is having fun at college!

  3. Haleigh on January 16, 2011 at 5:40 pm

Chocolate covered strawberry coffee sounds fabulous! I’ve actually never listened to a podcast before.. but anything to entertain myself while running is good with me.

  4. Carpensm @ A Life Without Ice Cream on January 16, 2011 at 6:03 pm

Oh man, just reading the name of that coffee made my mouth water! Two great things combined!

  5. Michelle on January 16, 2011 at 6:22 pm

V looks so happy! Love the bandana too! It must be hard but ultimately make you happy to know she’s settling in so well.

  6. ashley@quasichick on January 16, 2011 at 6:53 pm

I am so excited to start the Winter Shape Up Plan!

  7. Amy at TheSceneFromMe on January 16, 2011 at 6:56 pm

I’ve never heard of coffee flavored like that! I bet it smelled wonderful!
    Cute doggies!

  8. Andrea on January 16, 2011 at 6:58 pm

I love your positive attitude re: the marathon! You will have a blast with an attitude like that! Thanks for sharing the podcasts. They both sound right up my alley!

  9. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on January 16, 2011 at 7:00 pm

I’m kind of glad that you’re not going to really talk about your training – there are tons of other blogs for that. I much prefer reading about all the fun fitness classes you attend! 😀

  10. Katie on January 16, 2011 at 7:07 pm

    the coffee sounds amazing, mmmmmmmmm!

So glad your pup is doing great in the new home, that is a great feeling to know : )

Hope your weekend was great and glad you are loving the iphone, I know its hard to get used to at first , but it rocks!

  11. Faith A. on January 16, 2011 at 7:41 pm

You totally did the best by Viesa. Dont let negative comments get you down. There’s a lot of animals who should have it so good as you did by her. You dealt with a bad situation patiently and with love and in HER best interests. You should def be proud Gina, not sad. I’m sure you are missing her enough without jerky comments making you feel worse.
On a lighter note, I need to find that coffee. Sounds great.

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2011 at 7:44 pm

      <3

  12. Hilary on January 16, 2011 at 7:41 pm

I think it’s wonderful that you found a better place for Vies, no matter how hard it is. You’ve handled the whole situation with grace. I totally support you! She looks very happy! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 16, 2011 at 7:44 pm

she is very happy and i’m beyond thankful that it worked out the way it did <3

  13. Jess on January 16, 2011 at 7:57 pm

Vies looks very happy ( and super pretty in her bandana :))

As far as podcasts go, I highly recommend both This American Life and Wait, Wait Don’t Tell Me. Both are from NPR. This American Life picks a topic every week and presents different stories about people that are somehow tied in with the topic—it’s hard to describe but I am hooked. Wait, Wait is a trivia news game that is absolutely hilarious and it’s actually how I get a lot of my national news info since I can’t be bothered to sit and read a newspaper or watch news on TV. I’ve been looking for some new ones so maybe I’ll try the Daily Boost!

  14. Dominique on January 16, 2011 at 7:58 pm

So I guess I’m the only one that had to Google “podcast?” Hahaha! I’ve obviously never downloaded one. I’ll have to check ’em out since I’m clearly behind with the rest of society.

I love seeing photos of Viesa. She’s probably the most gorgeous Shiba Inu I’ve ever seen. I bet you’re happy to know that she went to a loving family and that you can get regular updates on her.

  15. Amanda @ RunningOnCoffee on January 16, 2011 at 8:04 pm

Also, I like listening to audio books while I workout, that way I don’t get dependent on the beat of the music to keep my pace up while running. I look forward to reading other recommendations for podcasts!

  16. Carrie S. on January 16, 2011 at 8:20 pm

I loooove listening to podcasts when I’m working or driving. I listen to a lot of comedy ones: WTF w/ Marc Maron, Nerdist, Doug Loves Movies, Sklarbro Country…all are awesome. Just for cardio, though. Laughing while lifting has proven quite dangerous 😉

  17. Mandy (theamazonprincess) on January 16, 2011 at 8:23 pm

I’ve been wanting an iphone forever 🙁 But I agree about the keypad…..I love the real buttons too!

  18. Krysten on January 16, 2011 at 8:51 pm

I don’t frequently comment but I felt like I had to in this case. Gina’s post talking about giving Viesa away broke my heart. I’m a huge animal lover and with 2 dogs I couldn’t imagine being in that situation. Gina, you made such a selfless decision. Keeping Viesa and hoping that nothing would happen in the future would have temporarily made you happy, but it was clear that both dogs in one home weren’t working. Now Viesa gets to live a nice, happy life and have lots of love and attention.. and so does Bella. Kudos for being brave enough to make that decision, don’t let anyone make you feel bad about it.

  19. Ann @ Day By Day on January 16, 2011 at 9:38 pm

Viessy does look happy and healthy! She’s such a beautiful dog. You definitely did the right thing. I know it must be hard but it’s great to know that she’s in a good home.

  20. Jessica @ Jessica Balances on January 16, 2011 at 9:42 pm

Just want to say that you should never feel bad for doing what you KNOW in your heart was right. As long as you and the Pilot are confident in your decision… what else matters? 🙂 And, honestly, THANK YOU for not turning this into a running blog. I like that your blog features a real variety of content — and you’re right, there are already a million running blogs out there! xoxo

  21. Brittany on January 16, 2011 at 11:13 pm

If A is a long time reader he or she would know the whole story about your puppies. I Think you made viesa a little happier as an only dog and bella a little safer.

And I can’t wait for the shape up!!

Have I got a podcast for you – Tara Brach! She’s on iTunes and at the website http://www.imcw.org/ She’s a Buddhist Meditation Teacher but you don’t have to be Buddhist to enjoy them (I’m Catholic and find them SO wonderful).

    Hey Gina,

Just wanted to say you have an awesome blog. I’ve followed it for a few months now but have only created my own this week. I love visiting it in the morning while eating bfast, it always motivates/inspires me or just perks me up on dull days. I would love to become a PT one day ( went to uni and graduated with a boring business degree..go figure) and help others achieve a healthier body and mindset like yourself!
