Things I miss about being pregnant

One of the girls at work is about 37 weeks pregnant, and I can’t help but look at her belly and think “I miss that.”

belly

Especially yesterday, when it was my first time teaching Zumba at work without my favorite dance partner…

Here are some of the things I miss, and don’t quite miss, about being preg:

I miss:

-Feeling the kicks, rolls, hiccups and movement all day. I loved being able to rub her back through my belly, or watch her daddy poke at her feet while she kicked him back.

-Maternity jeans. That ish was comfy, and next time around, I’m busting those things out much earlier.

jeans

-2 eggs a day. This sounds so weird, but I LOVE eggs, and eating two per day was awesome. Now I’m having oats for breakfast because it helps milk supply, so eggs are a snack or occasional breakfast.

-Not having to teach pool classes. I couldn’t be out in the sun that long –it gets wicked hot here in AZ- but guess who’s teaching pool classes starting in a couple of weeks? I’m not a great swim, but the water doesn’t scare me. I’m actually looking forward to trying something new, but I will have to say it was nice not having to change into pool uniform and walk out there for a while 😉

-Naps. Pregnant naps (actually all naps) are amazing. It was nice to know that when I felt tired, I could curl up on the couch with Bell and snooze. Now when I feel tired, I eat some dark chocolate M&Ms and keep on keepin’ on.

Things I don’t miss about being pregnant:

-Prenatal massages and yoga. I’m sure there are people that have wonderful experiences, but for me, both were equally lame. I enjoy massages on my stomach without some insane boob and belly apparatus so much more, and as far as yoga goes, the backbends, twists and inversions were welcomed with open arms.

-Wine. I still can’t drink a lot, nor would I want to with a little one to take care of, but one glass is perfect. Vino tastes pretty fantastic after such a long hiatus, and word on the street is that it helps with letdown. Cheers to that, eh?

-Sleeping on my stomach! Even in the beginning when sleep wasn’t really happening over here, I felt so much more rested after a good faceplant with the pillow, even when it was just for a little while. I don’t sleep as well on my side- it’s belly down, elbows out over here 🙂

-Strangers touching my belly, or making comments like, “You must be having twins!” “You look like you’re going to pop any second!” Actually, I’m due in 3 months, ya punk.

-Being nervous about the birth. Deep in the back of my mind, I was really worried about something going wrong, and there’s always anxiety surrounding the unknown. I’m glad that I know what it was like, and am so blessed that things went well.

-Only having a small idea of how very amazing this little person is.

Your daughter is so loved 🙂

  2. Amelia @ Eating Made Easy on April 6, 2012 at 12:04 am

I so agree with your list – especially those luxurious naps that we no longer have time to take. Thank goodness the body kind of adjust to being totally tired all the time 🙂

btw Olivia has gotten so big and she is absolutely precious!

  3. Jamie on April 6, 2012 at 12:07 am

Olivia is so cute, she is getting bigger for sure!! It does sound weird to say you miss the eggs, why can’t you just eat them with your oats?

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2012 at 12:15 am

i either like sweet or savory for breakfast- don’t usually love mixing the two

      • Amy on April 6, 2012 at 10:34 am

I don’t get the egg thing. If you love them so much, why don’t you just eat some for lunch? It seems silly to deprive yourself of a healthy food you enjoy just because you’re not pregnant anymore.

        • Fitnessista on April 6, 2012 at 11:17 am

i still eat them almost everyday, just have oats for breakfast instead
i like waking up with eggs more, though

          • Emily on April 6, 2012 at 11:44 am

Eggs for breakfast and oatmeal for lunch? Just an idea 😉

          • Fitnessista on April 6, 2012 at 11:56 am

            that’s true!

  4. Sara on April 6, 2012 at 12:09 am

Woah! Growing up FAST. The craziest thing is watching them grow and learn. You don’t want to take your eyes off them for a second because they might discover a new facial expression. Babies are better than TV.

  5. Courtney on April 6, 2012 at 12:12 am

I think maternity pants should be okay to wear all the time. Lol! I’m pregnant with my fourth right now and I started wearing them in the first trimester even though I didn’t even need them at that point!

  6. Leanne on April 6, 2012 at 12:19 am

It seems like everytime I comment I say “I just love your family page” but I can’t help it, I do!

  7. Jaclyn on April 6, 2012 at 12:20 am

so so sweet <3 I think she is so beautiful, so a mix of you and Tom. You are such a great mom and it shows through your blog every day; I hope to be a mom like that some (in the far future ) day I hope!!! <3

  8. Alyssa on April 6, 2012 at 12:24 am

That is the sweetest picture! Arghh… The belly comments. I also hate the pregnancy comments, except mine are the opposite, “aren’t you kinda small? Is the baby ok?” some people have no filter. Anyway, cant wait for my baby girls arrival. Liv looks so adorable!

  9. Destini on April 6, 2012 at 12:28 am

She is getting so big! OMGosh look at her lil baby arms and hands…gosh can you tell I am thinking its time for the hubby and I to start on the family road? I have been following your blog for awhile now. And loved how much you shared about your pregnancy. It actually gave me more assurance regarding us being ready for a child.

  10. Melissa on April 6, 2012 at 12:37 am

Hi! What is letdown? You said wine helps it…
    🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2012 at 12:39 am

      it’s when the milk releases

  11. Amy@healthyhungryhappy.com on April 6, 2012 at 12:54 am

ahh i just started feeling our baby kick in there these past few days…i cant wait until it happens more!!

btw, where did u get maternity jeans?? im getting to that point where my jeans wont fit over my ass haha..need maternity now!

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2012 at 12:58 am

gap!! they fit like heaven and the size numbers correspond to your pre-preg size

  12. Averie @ Averie Cooks on April 6, 2012 at 1:15 am

All the comments from strangers regarding one’s size, lack thereof, bigness of, the unsolicited and uninvited belly touching…eek. Just thinking back to that makes me shudder, still. Almost 6 years later!

  13. Marie on April 6, 2012 at 1:16 am

Oh my gosh, Gina, she gets more and more beautiful! I love the picture with her great-grandma! My grandma is alive but not as lucid and I wish the twins would have been able to know her as I did growing up; she’s the best! She had 11 kids and has never yelled a day in her life. I agree with your comment about missing the movements; that’s what I miss the most. Gotta love the rude comments. I had twins and they still bugged me. People still don’t get any nicer. Thanks so much for sharing your journey. I have always been a fan of your site but love it even more now, seeing you as a wonderful mother.

  14. Laura @ She Eats Well on April 6, 2012 at 1:18 am

She is so freaking beautiful and I think it’s so amazing that her great grandmother gets to know her. I think that is rare nowadays; so lucky to have family close by!

  15. Shaina on April 6, 2012 at 1:38 am

look at the little arm rolls!! so.freaking.cute.

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2012 at 1:43 am

      i love them so much!

  16. Kristen on April 6, 2012 at 7:27 am

    So true! All of it.

    1. Maternity jeans are the best. I have some maternity shorts that my belly didn’t grow into last summer that I may have to bust out this summer just because!

    2. Stomach sleeping= BEST SLEEP EVER

    3. Naps…what is that again? Haha

I do kinda miss my belly. Never thought I’d ever say that. But I love having my sweet little boy here more.
Isn’t it amazing how most relationships take months or years to really develop, yet this baby has really only been in my life for a matter of weeks and I am so in love with him!! I know you feel the same about Livi. 🙂

  17. OntarioGirl on April 6, 2012 at 8:37 am

I miss sleeping on my stomach SO much!!! More than wine and that’s saying a lot….it is a close second though 😉 Other than that I’m loving pregnancy so far. I’m 20 weeks now and starting to get a little more nervous about the birth but I try not to worry about it too much since I know whatever is going to happen is going to happen!
    Maternity jeans are the best.

  18. Stellina @ My Yogurt Addiction on April 6, 2012 at 8:39 am

Awww cute post! I’ve never been pregnant (yet) but I am really scared! It’s nice to know that you do miss some things from it! I know that I personally probably wouldn’t miss gaining so much weight in such a short amount of time! But that’s what it takes I guess 🙂

  19. Michelle on April 6, 2012 at 9:11 am

Ohhhh I love this post. I had a hard time with this, especially because I went 5 weeks early and wasn’t mentally ready to be done being pregnant! Question for you: you mentioned oats and wine as being 2 foods that help with breastfeeding (letdown & supply). Any other foods that you’ve heard of that are supposed to help? I could use a little more milk, especially when pumping, to help keep up with my little one’s appetite! Thanks.

  20. Laura on April 6, 2012 at 10:08 am

Loved this post! I just started into maternity pants and I can’t say I love them yet. The first time I tried them on I was just totally befuddled. Where is the zipper and fly? Ha! I am loving the kicks and movement, I can definitely see where that could be a favorite part. I love being close to her and “knowing” what she is doing “Oh she is low today” ,”Been dancing to my music” and things of that nature.

Livi is so precious and I’m loving her dress!

  21. NotablyNeurotic on April 6, 2012 at 10:26 am

I think I’m hyper emotional because I started crying reading this post. Why? I have no friggin’ idea. I’m 26 years-old and I want to keep children in my distant, distant future. But this post was lovely. Especially the last part: “Only having a small idea of how very amazing this little person is.”

Thanks, tearing up in my cubicle now.

(P.S. I’m a new reader! Glad I found your blog!)

  22. kara on April 6, 2012 at 10:43 am

oh my those lil arm rolls. can’t even handle them! such a sweet picture. she’s your clone, gina!

  23. Trainer Kjirsten on April 6, 2012 at 11:24 am

I had my first child, a baby girl in January, and I didn’t think I’d miss being pregnant at all. But now, I seriously miss my big belly and having Cameryn inside of me kicking and rolling all day. There is something so unique and special about carrying a child. Like this amazing unspoken bond between you and the baby. It is something I will cherish forever and now I’m actually looking forward to getting pregnant again and everything that comes along with it, birth included!

So lucky to have a great great grandma! 🙂

  25. Amy R. on April 6, 2012 at 1:07 pm

I am 20 wks pregnant and just got my first maternity jeans :). I was telling my husband that I want all of my jeans to have these little elastics on the sides….I got theses ones by Paige:

    http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/paige-maternity-petite-union-laurel-canyon-bootcut-jeans-in-mckinley-wash?ID=564519&CategoryID=9329#fn=spp%3D6%26ppp%3D96%26sp%3D1%26rid%3D25

I highly recommend to any preg!

And I agree with you on the eggs (now that my morning sickness is over ;)).

  26. Brie on April 6, 2012 at 1:54 pm

I’m in second trimester now, but I do NOT miss morning sickness.
I can’t wait to feel the baby…I keep thinking I am, and it turns out to be gas instead. Whoops.

    • Amy R. on April 6, 2012 at 3:20 pm

I just started feeling the baby move at 18 wks and wasn’t sure at first if it was or not…it’s pretty weird and so cool!

  27. Colleen on April 6, 2012 at 2:29 pm

I am totally busting my maternity jeans back out at Thanksgiving/Christmas. I got mine from Motherhood maternity, and they are actually some of the most comfortable and flattering jeans I’ve ever owned!

I miss feeling my babies moving around in my belly and knowing that they are with mommy all day. I don’t miss – everything else. 🙂

  29. Michelle on April 6, 2012 at 2:57 pm

I miss growing a human being while I go about my everyday life 🙂 Its kind of an amazing feeling!

    I don’t miss the heartburn.. ick 🙁

Livi has such a sweet little face, I love her dark features 🙂

  30. Maddy on April 6, 2012 at 5:34 pm

I don’t miss anything about pregnancy, but that’s a whole other story.

Love the photo with Great great grandma. Livi looks gorgeous as usual and G G grandma has such a radiant smile as she admires Miss Liv. You captured a heartwarming moment.

    • Fitnessista on April 6, 2012 at 8:43 pm

thank you- it makes me so happy that livi has so many people in her life who love her

  31. Alexandria on April 6, 2012 at 7:41 pm

I miss being pregnant too! When I see pregnant women walking around I probably look like a total creep starring at them.
I miss rubbing my belly and feeling all her movements. Ah, one day..

  32. Rebecca on April 6, 2012 at 8:12 pm

I don’t miss being pregnant! Very glad that is over and done with.

I still wear my maternity jeans on occasion. You can’t tell unless you lift up my shirt, but who does that (other than baby haha!)

  33. Katie on April 7, 2012 at 9:21 am

I want to eat up your baby!!!!! 🙂

Yes I too wear maternity pants…and am not pregnant…and have never had children, hehe. There was this Gap business casual pair in my size at a thrift store for like $2 and the rest is history. I like feeling no discomfort after a big lunch.

PS, Gina, I’m commisioning into the AF this summer and will be stationed at Travis AFB outside of San Francisco. I don’t believe you two have been stationed there before, but if you do know anything about that base, I’d love to hear 🙂

    • Fitnessista on April 7, 2012 at 7:41 pm

congratulations! i’ve never been to that base, but you will LOVE san fran 🙂

I needed a pick-me-up, and there was a great blog entry AND your little Princess with her Great Nana. How amazing she is, and what a wonderful picture!!! Love it!!!

  35. Lauren on April 9, 2012 at 2:29 pm

Hi Gina – I’ve become a reader of your blog recently. I’m so glad that you are enjoying your little one! Isn’t motherhood amazing? I’m a new mom, as well, and my son Griffin is 10 1/2 months old – it goes by so fast! I stay at home with him but, prior to having him, I was a speech language pathologist and worked with children ages 1-16 years. Anyway, I just started my own blog called Speech Mama. I want to continue to provide speech language information to parents as well as healthy recipes for babies, tots, and family. Anyways, I thought that maybe you and your readers might be interested…..really I’m not trying to pimp out my blog – lol! Feel free to check it out when you get a free minute – haha…does that even exist when you become a mom?!?
