Things I’ve learned [so far]

baby

1. Baby clothes are so.stinking.cute. Way more fun than adult clothes, and wayyyy more fun than maternity clothes.

2. Letting go of control. Having this little baby kicking, growing and doing her thang, has really relaxed my type A personality. So many things are out of my control right now, and all I can do is educate myself, give myself the best environment possible and enjoy the ride. It’s been weird/fun/interesting to actually “enjoy the ride” instead of planning out the entire agenda and Googling directions along the way 😉

3. When I’m no longer pregnant and I see a pregnant woman, I’ll remember all of the wonderful things I heard while I was pregnant, and all of the things that were said that made my heart sink. Positive energy is so important in life, especially when you’re growing a human inside your belly, who feels the things that you feel (happiness and elation, but also stress and sadness). I’ll tell her she looks absolutely beautiful, which is a great thing to hear when you feel awkward.

4. I can already see some similarities in our little girl. She’s a night owl like her daddy (kicks and flips all night!), loves Zumba music, and also won’t perform under pressure (like someone else I know). When I was younger, my mom and nana used to want me to sing to EVERYONE, and I was so embarrassed. The only times I would do it usually involved some kind of bribe (terrible). Whenever the baby is kicking, I’ll tell my mom to come and feel her, because she’s only felt one kick and no one else has felt anything. As soon as my mom or anyone puts their hand on my belly, the kicking stops.

The only exception is her dad- she’ll kick for him anytime. He’ll lightly press down on my belly and she’ll kick back- it’s like a fun little game the two of them have.

5. Trusting in my body. I’ve been able to keep up a pretty solid fitness routine –very different than pre-pregnancy, but still there- but am just focusing on what feels good. Zumba still feels pretty good and a thousand times better since I got the belly support belt. It was my first time teaching wearing it yesterday, and it did the trick: perfect amount of support and wasn’t too hot. My body will let me know when it’s time to start the Zumba hiatus, or the same thing will happen to me that happened to my friend at work: she was teaching a crazy dance class with live drums and shaking it (and this girl can SHAKE IT), and my boss saw her and told her she was done, haha.

6. To enjoy every moment, even the not-so-fun parts, because it really does go by so quickly! I’m almost 30 weeks and the finish line is in sight. It doesn’t feel like too long ago, when I was talking to Tom on FaceTime and crying over the happy news.

7. Sometimes it’s ok to tell people what baby name you’ve chosen. Almost everyone over here knows, so I thought I’d give you one more letter 😉

  4. Tiffany on October 21, 2011 at 11:52 pm

    my name guess is Olivia!

    • Therese on October 23, 2011 at 12:30 am

That was my guess when you posted just the “LIA” last time. Such a sweet name (if that is, indeed, a correct guess).

    • Jenn on October 23, 2011 at 3:12 am

I love that name but if the colors of the letters are alternating then I don’t think that would work (I might be mistaken but I tried to figure it out twice lol)

    • Carrie on October 24, 2011 at 11:29 am

      That was my guess, too.

  5. christa on October 22, 2011 at 12:34 am

    Leilani?

    • Katie on October 22, 2011 at 12:55 pm

  7. Christie F on October 22, 2011 at 2:47 am

  8. Amal on October 22, 2011 at 3:17 am

    Caitlin? Jillian?

  9. Natalcho @ Tomatoes Rock on October 22, 2011 at 5:21 am

30 weeks already? It feels like you just announced your pregnancy! It makes me wonder – how is it that even at 30 weeks you seem to have a more active exercise routine than me (not pregnant at all:))

  10. Michaela on October 22, 2011 at 7:57 am

    that was a great post!
Olivia was a great guess already, but maybe you chose Hailey?? Very excited to find out the name 🙂

  11. Kim on October 22, 2011 at 9:09 am

Gina! I love your family posts. I am not pregnant, and NOWHERE near being pregnant (uh, not even married) but I’ve always been excited about it in a weird way. I’ve always thought it is such a beautiful thing to have a baby grow inside you, and it makes me sad when I hear lots of women not enjoying pregnancy. I picture it to be just like you describe- nothing short of absolutely amazing. I always stare at pregnant women because I think they are just the most gorgeous people in the world. I can’t imagine how it feels to have your body change so drastically in such a short amount of time but you are so beautiful!

  12. britt on October 22, 2011 at 10:03 am

you really do look absolutely beautiful!! great post btw 🙂

  13. Alycia on October 22, 2011 at 10:07 am

The nursery is looking great, and so are you! Glad you are really enjoying your baby girl. It gets so much better when they get here! 😉

  14. Suzanne on October 22, 2011 at 10:42 am

Your hair looks gorgeous! Love the nursery furniture.

My guess is OLIVIA. My friend’s baby (well, she’s turning 4 soon!) has that name. We call her “Livi.”
    🙂

  15. Ida on October 22, 2011 at 11:10 am

I can’t tell what the name is, but from the letters you’ve shown I can tell it will be beautiful. Natalia maybe?

  16. kyla on October 22, 2011 at 11:54 am

Allison??? Either way, I bet you chose a beautiful name for a beautiful girl.

  17. meghan on October 22, 2011 at 12:34 pm

    Alicia?

  18. Brianna on October 22, 2011 at 12:35 pm

    Lilianna?

  19. Amal on October 22, 2011 at 12:36 pm

    Lillian?

Are we ever going to know if any of these guesses are correct?

    • Fitnessista on October 22, 2011 at 3:35 pm

      when she’s born 😉

  20. Danielle on October 22, 2011 at 12:45 pm

    Olivia or Giuliana?

  21. kristi on October 22, 2011 at 2:46 pm

If the letters are in order, I’m guessing Liliana, which is beautiful!

It’s such a fun ride, I’ve loved being pregnant with each of my kids (in my 2nd tri with our 3rd). After my first 2 were born, I was so excited, but also missed having them in my belly at the same time. For a couple days after, I would catch myself putting my hand on my belly and worrying for a quick second that I hadn’t felt them kick in awhile, then realizing they were sleeping next to me in the co-sleeper :o)

  22. Amanda on October 22, 2011 at 3:02 pm

Your hair is so long and pretty! I think pregnancy suits you well. 🙂

No idea about the name. I’m terrible at games like hangman and jeopardy. haha

  23. Heather (heathers dish) on October 22, 2011 at 3:22 pm

I love that you said positivity is huge…I have so many people who ask if I’ve felt our little guy move yet, and when I say I have but wish I could feel him more I always get the “just wait til he kicks you in your ribs…then you’ll wish he’d stop!” response. Not really what I want to hear, and not at all the way I feel. I’ll count every little kick and hiccup and jab as a miracle!

    • Fitnessista on October 22, 2011 at 3:34 pm

i love getting kicked in the ribs.. even the ones that hurt make me laugh

  24. Jenny on October 22, 2011 at 4:07 pm

Lila? If so, that’s a beautiful name. As is any other name it might be 😉

  25. Kat on October 22, 2011 at 4:14 pm

You’re so beautiful and your pregnancy posts are so beautiful as well! They make me a tad bit emotional. I can’t believe she’s almost here. My guess is Olivia.

  26. Maria on October 22, 2011 at 4:56 pm

You look beautiful!!!!! Are you going to reveal the baby’s name before she is born or wait until she arrives?

  27. Emily on October 22, 2011 at 7:33 pm

I have a friend named Laila… it’s a name I’ve always LOVED, but I’m pretty sure yours must be longer, because I doubt you’d give us 80% of the letters 😉
Anyway, I have no doubt that you guys have picked a beautiful name! Can’t wait to find out.

  28. Autumn Tao on October 23, 2011 at 6:48 am

Even though so many others have said it, you are a beautiful woman Gina, inside and out. Your antics make me smile, your optimism is refreshing, and your pregnancy has been amazing to watch. I’m just a bit older than you and am *trying* myself, so watching you and Emily (Daily Garnish) take on this next chapter in life with a focus on fitness and health has been so informative. I’ll always be grateful for the gals I’ve gotten “to know” online and the journeys I’ve been able to take with them. All the best to you and the Pilot as your little family grows. Namaste.

  29. Alyssa on October 23, 2011 at 1:31 pm

I’m guessing Jillian! So excited to “meet” your baby girl! And you look gorgeous. Sometimes life is all about rollin’ with it 🙂

  30. Shayla @ The Good Life on October 23, 2011 at 2:32 pm

    OLIVIA!! That’s my guess 😉

And I love love that crib…not to mention you’re looking so gorgeous and glowing…your hair is looking long and lucious too 🙂

  31. Brenda on October 23, 2011 at 2:38 pm

My guess is Olivia! It’s a beautiful name and what we were going to name our babe if it was a girl. Instead, I have a James who came into the world on Friday at 11:24 am!

  32. Barb on October 23, 2011 at 9:34 pm

    Lorilai??

  33. Katie on October 23, 2011 at 10:29 pm

You look gorgeous girl! And I love the letters! So cute!

  34. Jen on October 24, 2011 at 8:21 am

During my sister’s pregnancy, we found that the baby would kick a lot when we were all sitting around and talking. But what happened was that we would all stop talking and try to feel it, and it would stop. We had to keep talking as we tried to feel the kicks. Worked (almost) every time!

    • Fitnessista on October 24, 2011 at 10:40 am

k, i’ll try that next time!

  35. Cathy on October 24, 2011 at 12:33 pm

  36. Lara on October 24, 2011 at 5:19 pm

This is such a lovely post and I know there are many more thoughtful and sentimental ways I could reply but… I can’t get over how amazing your hair looks in that pic!!! I remember you mentioning that it was really long and thick but I for serious it looks crazy awesome. Definitely Kardashian worthy 😀

  37. Kari on October 25, 2011 at 11:30 am

woooo is it Lilah???!!! That is my guess, my brother named his daughter Lilah and she is the cutest little niece ever :))

  38. Deanna on October 29, 2011 at 6:41 pm
