This place about to blow

Hey hey hey 😀 How are ya?

Things are bueno over here 🙂 A day full of quality time with the Pilot, but our sunny 4th of July was short-lived since the angry clouds rolled in.

The storm waited until I got inside with bags of groceries (thank youuuuuuu), and then POURED like cray cray.

rain

Hi, hail 🙂

hail

We actually enjoyed the storm 1000x more than we would have loved the sun. Tucson has been seriously needing rain –there’s been a giant fire burning 60 miles away from us- and I love that monsoon season is finally here 😀

This morning, we went to the gym for some weights since I had already done the majority of my cardio (via TurboFire) and the Pilot wanted to get in a lifting sesh.

Here’s what I did:

-5 minute cardio warm-up

-Superset: Tricep bar pressdown, cable bar pull

-Superset: Barbell deadlifts, barbell squats

-Circuit: Stability ball push-up, dumbbell bicep curl, stability ball sit-ups

-Superset: Dumbbell upright row, dumbbell oblique side-to-sides

-15 minutes cardio: walk/jog

Schweaty 😀

When we got home, we busted out the sardines that I’ve been a mix of horrified and excited to try.

sardines

I’ll spare you a pic of what the inside of the tin looked like, but I will say there were no heads, no tails, and they were in a bath of mustard. We scooped them onto gluten-free crackers and topped with hot sauce, and I was a fan. Super salty (love!) and not nearly as fishy as I thought they would be.

+ egg puff (w/ nutritional yeast and hot sauce)

[background spoon —-> dipped into the almond butter jar]

and I munched some organic grapes

while the Pilot made some nachos.

We’re off to take a walk since the storm calmed down, then back to the casa to make dinner 😀

See ya in the morning with a NEW elliptical workout and playlist!
xoxo

Glad to hear you’re having a relaxing day with the pilot. Q: What does “superset” mean (in regards to your workout)? 🙂

    • Fitnessista on July 4, 2011 at 9:03 pm

you go back and forth between the two exercises with no rest in between

  3. Ali on July 4, 2011 at 9:10 pm

Lurker alert: Does this mean you can eat and enjoy almond butter once again!? 🙂

    • Fitnessista on July 4, 2011 at 11:13 pm

  4. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on July 4, 2011 at 9:11 pm

When I was preggers I couldn’t even handle the smell of Scott’s cologne, let alone any kind of strong-ish fish. I wouldn’t have been able to hang with the sardines but glad you liked them! And with nooch, great idea.

Glad you guys got a walk in.

And I love the pic of Pilot by the Kitchen Aid stand mixer and him cooking. That’s pretty fabulous 🙂

you and the Pilot are soo cute 🙂

i’m excited for your new playlist!!! good music seriously makes my workouts so much better!

  8. Allison @ Food for Healing on July 4, 2011 at 9:20 pm

we drove through the craziest storm last night, it was raining so hard we had to almost stop because we couldn’t see. We didn’t run through any hail, but i know north from where we were there was some large hail, think the size of your ‘roons! yikes

There was so much stormage here. Absolutely cray cray. Happy 4th mahboo!

  10. Jessica on July 4, 2011 at 9:38 pm

That same storm situation has been my life for the past 2 days! “cray cray” The storm pic is very scray! lol

  11. Amber @ Stop and Smell the Wildflowers on July 4, 2011 at 9:43 pm

I’ve never tried sardines either- I don’t really like fish, so I imagine I probably wouldn’t like them. But maybe I’ll have to give them a try. 🙂
Also, random question, but what is that thing on top of the building in your first pic of the storm? It looks like some crazy storm god/Transformer!

  12. Leslie on July 4, 2011 at 10:06 pm

You guys are so cute at the gym together! 😉

Okay, so with the sardines…I was wondering how you’d like them (I’ve never had them either!), but you convinced me to at least try! So thanks for helping me be a lil’ adventurous!

    Happy 4th!

  13. Lindsey on July 4, 2011 at 10:12 pm

I have been looking for a new elliptical workout! Can’t wait! Happy July 4th!

  14. Holly @ The Runny Egg on July 4, 2011 at 10:17 pm

After trying canned salmon (which I’m now comfortable with, although the first time seeing the bones in there was creepy) I’m hesitant to try other canned fish — not sure if I will ever buy sardines!

  15. Fit Chick Britt on July 4, 2011 at 10:18 pm

Ahh I’m jealous of your rain. We need rain so bad in TX and I miss rainy weekends. Looking forward to an elliptical workout; I always get bored on the elliptical!

  16. lisa on July 4, 2011 at 10:22 pm

    Okay… I might try them 🙂
My grandmother loves them, so it is possible I will too. Where are they even located in WF?
    Thanks!

  17. Elizabeth on July 4, 2011 at 10:28 pm

The storms are in Utah too, I’ve never experienced storms like this (I grew up in Cali) and I am loving it!

  18. Sana on July 4, 2011 at 10:55 pm

I can’t say I have ever eaten a Sardine, I don’t even know what they look like!

  19. Chelsea on July 4, 2011 at 11:48 pm

I love your background spoon insert. 🙂 I need to get the brand of sardines because I have never seen them without the heads and tails, and can’t get myself to eat them!

I hope that storm blows over here to Yuma pronto because it got up to 122 yesterday (according to the car) and it was so humid today!

  20. Ali @ urbanfruitbat on July 5, 2011 at 1:13 am

It is always so nice when the rain waits for you to get inside! Happy 4th girl~!

  21. Namaste Gurl on July 5, 2011 at 1:41 am

Mmmm- eggs with nooch are the BEST 🙂 But isn’t anything and everything with nooch yummy?

  22. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on July 5, 2011 at 8:11 am

You’re such a brave girl for trying sardines… I just cannot bring myself to try them! 😛

  23. The Teenage Taste on July 5, 2011 at 10:13 am

Ugh! Sorry to hear about your rainy ( and hail-filled) Fourth of July! We got the same storm a day earlier. It was terrible!
Glad you were able to get a good workout in though! I’ll have to give that routine a try!

  24. Ann @ Running With Chopstix on July 5, 2011 at 10:36 am

Love sardines! I love mushrooms and sardines on a thin crust pizza! It’s what I think I would eat if I was pregnant 🙂 That and dill pickle chips!

  25. Laura (Cookies vs. Carrots) on July 5, 2011 at 11:26 am

Egggghhhhh, I am so scared to try sardines! I’ve heard they are good for you, and that the fishing practices for sardines are much more environmentally healthy than other fish, but I’m still freaked out!

  26. Carrie@shrinkingcarrie on July 5, 2011 at 12:28 pm

Wow, you tried sardines while pregnant! Brave girl.

  27. Annie@stronghealthyfit on July 5, 2011 at 4:17 pm

Haha making nachos includes the stovetop and a pan? Cheese sauce? I usually just throw cheese on chips and put ’em in the oven 🙂

    • Fitnessista on July 5, 2011 at 8:18 pm

he was serious about it. haha
