Thrilled > Stressed

Hiiii 😀 How was your day? Hope you had a lovely Sunday.

Ours, of course, was full of packing, but it’s the last time in a looooooong time we’ll have to do this.

Bella helped, too 😉

bell

She dug that scarf out of the Goodwill bag and it has become her new favorite toy [for today].

Thank you so much for the gift ideas for our realtor! She already gave us a very generous gift as a thank-you, and for her, we’re planning on a card + gift card to one of our favorite places to eat.

The verdict on the final walk through?

tree

Pretty icky in there.

I didn’t even take pictures because I was kind of stunned. New crayon drawings on the wall, dust bunnies and trash everywhere, a plastic toy stuck in an outlet –the Pilot couldn’t get it out- and black carpet where the master bed used to be. It could be a LOT worse (all of the appliances are still there!) and it’s nothing that a little elbow grease and paint wont take care of.

Part of me is a little stressed over everything we need to do, but thrilled > stressed by a landslide.

Some eats!
wrap

Hummus and veggie wrap on a teff tortilla, vinegar slaw from Beyond Bread, and a little salad with balsamic.

Popcorn with vegan chocolate chips and cinnamon for an afternoon pick-me-up 🙂

popcorn

[If you haven’t tried this combo yet- give it a whirl. The chocolate chips melt into the popcorn and… yeah]

It was my day off from the gym today, so I’m rested and ready to get back into it this week 🙂 One of my goals: yoga. I will make it happen 🙂

{Late} dinnertime over here!
See ya tomorrow with your chance for some macaroons 🙂

xoxo

Gina

Love this quote Ms. Gina!! It is so true–and strangely so relevant to my life today. Let’s just say I did something that is deeply and powerfully good for my life–and though I hated it and wanted to fight it tooth and nails–I went–and hopefully I’ll see positive change in the future.

did they leave you the Buddha, mama?

    • Fitnessista on July 25, 2011 at 12:48 am

      no! buddha was gone 🙁

      • Amanda on July 25, 2011 at 12:49 am

        🙁 Boooo.

  6. Amanda on July 25, 2011 at 12:49 am

Sometimes I wonder if it’s left messy on purpose….. when I first moved into my apartment it reeked of old cigarette smoke and it looked like nobody had cleaned in ages. In fact I’m still convinced that whoever lived here before me didn’t know how to use a mop! *sigh. Rude people.

  7. Jackie Smith on July 25, 2011 at 1:13 am

You’re fortunate! My cousin is a contractor who repairs houses after they are foreclosed upon–he has seen people take appliances, fixtures, door handles, hot water tank, a/c unit, the front door, and (my fave) the garage door, which the people replaced with big sheets of MDF painted to look like a garage door. People are crazy sometimes!

You should definitely take before pictures, if only so you can compare when you’re all finished.

    • Fitnessista on July 25, 2011 at 10:13 am

it was a short sale, so not quite as bad as a foreclosure, but still. will definitely post before and afters!

  8. Rosie on July 25, 2011 at 1:15 am

    Congrats on your new house!!!
I’ve bought and sold a few places over the years and people ALWAYS seem to leave them disgusting! I think once the place sells they stop cleaning and it’s the last thing on their mind once all their stuff is out. What I always do is get a professional cleaning company to get straight in there and give it a once over. It doesn’t cost much at all and then you can get in there and do what you need without the extra stress! You will still have to give it a bit of elbow grease but it gives you a fresh start.

    • Fitnessista on July 25, 2011 at 10:13 am

yep, we have stanley steemer heading over today, and an eco-friendly maid service. it would have been really rough to do it all myself after the mess they left!

  9. dep on July 25, 2011 at 3:42 am

Was this a morgatee sale? You mentioned it was quick etc….and hearing of the state of the house reminds me of stories about how people trash their houses when the bank takes over. I think even if i was super mad i’d still clean like the beejus so people wouldn’t think i was dirty! Sorry to hear about the Buddha etc – agree with Jackie Smith and Rosie, maybe hire someone to help (and do before and after pics please!).

    • Fitnessista on July 25, 2011 at 10:12 am

it was a short sale, so two banks owned it. it’s been crazy!!
will totally post before and afters 🙂

  10. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga on July 25, 2011 at 5:23 am

The popcorn looks awesome. I eat TONS of popcorn…every.day. I add cinnamon, ginger, garam masala, nooch, stevia, choc chips…not all at once. But, have been known to do that too 🙂 And a light dusting of cooking spray or coconut oil spray so all the toppings stick.

So.sorry. about the walk thru disaster. It’s amazing what people can do to a house from time of contract to time of closing on it, isn’t it. I know. Ive lived the disaster you are speaking of. Just delegate what you can, or hire it out, or bribe family members to help you, take some deep breaths, and you’ll get thru it. Hang in there!!

    🙂

  11. Gina @ Running to the Kitchen on July 25, 2011 at 5:28 am

It’s so unfortunate how rude and disgusting people can be just because it’s a short sale. It’s happened to us before to. Gross. At least you guys are staying positive!

  12. Kristen on July 25, 2011 at 5:46 am

I purchased a foreclosed house in May and it was pretty rough! I had to take cleaning the rooms one day at a time so to not get so grossed out. It’s a lot of work, but totally worth it. After two months of remodeling, I’m finally moving in this week. Yay for moving! It’s an exciting time in your life.

I love the quote you posted!

Congrats on the house. 🙂 I can’t wait to see how you put it all together!

  16. Alicia F. on July 25, 2011 at 7:18 am

We just recently closed on our house as well and I’m totally feeling the stress/thrill like you mentioned. We have lots of painting to do! I’m sure your super excited about getting in and making the house your home. Congrats!! 🙂 p.s. Are you helping your hubby paint? I’ve heard mixed opinions on whether or not it’s safe. I also recently found out I’m preggers but I’ve kept it on the DL since I’m still early on. So I’m totally loving all advice/updates in the family posts. 🙂

    • Fitnessista on July 25, 2011 at 10:08 am

nope, i’m leaving the painting to the boys 🙂

  17. Holly @ The Runny Egg on July 25, 2011 at 7:38 am

Sorry to hear about the house — I’ve heard stories from friends who bought foreclosed homes and they were a mess — doors taken off, cabinets torn out, carpet torn out, etc. I’m glad you were still thrilled though!

  18. Paige @ Running Around Normal on July 25, 2011 at 7:44 am

Ahh what a bummer on the messes! But you’re right – nothing that can’t be fixed! 🙂

  19. Heather (Heather's Dish) on July 25, 2011 at 7:49 am

when we were looking to buy a house we were warned that short sales could be like that…upset owners would leave everything a huge mess just to be mean 🙁 we were really lucky with ours – it wasn’t a short sale – and the previous owners were ANAL about everything. they filled in all of the holes and painted and cleaned the carpet for us! plus they left a 4″ binder with every.single.bit of info about the house in it. we’re definitely planning on passing that along whenever we move 🙂

    • Gina on July 25, 2011 at 9:02 am

That’s what we did when we sold our last house. I was actually pregnant at the time and thankfully I had a ton of helpers but we scoured every surface, filled nail holes from where frames had been, touched up the paint, cleaned the appliances (they were negotiated in the sell price) to shine like they were new. I even left info about how to contact the local guy we hired to plow our lane in the winter and the milk delivery information etc. We weren’t being forced out of our house but even if we had been I can’t imagine leaving a mess for someone else to deal with. Regardless of what the circumstances are of your selling/ leaving, this is a dream home for the new owners. The people leaving should have enough class and decency to at the very least make it presentable for you.

    • Fitnessista on July 25, 2011 at 10:07 am

WHOA! i want those owners. haha

  22. Yolie @ Practising Wellness on July 25, 2011 at 8:39 am

ahhh…yoga is such a healer, and will definitely help you stay calm during a stressful time. hope you manage to carve out some time to practice, it is so worth it. plus, like you said, it is just so exciting that you two have a house of your very own, to make your own 🙂 a true gift, even with the settling in hassles. that popcorn looks divine, as does the wrap and salad 😛 xyx

  23. Shannon on July 25, 2011 at 8:50 am

Congrats on the new casa! I’m a realtor in South Florida and bank owned properties can get pretty crazy! Good luck with the fix up!

P.S. – I already hit up your Sun Warrior promo on Open Sky! I just love that stuff!! 🙂

    • Fitnessista on July 25, 2011 at 10:07 am

      yay! enjoy 🙂

  24. Megan on July 25, 2011 at 8:56 am

Oh, that stinks! When we did our final walk through, we found not one but two broken windows that the seller absolutely refused to replace. It wasn’t worth the litigation that it would have taken to get them to replace it, but sheesh, I don’t know why people just don’t care once the house isn’t theirs anymore.

  25. Lauren on July 25, 2011 at 9:00 am

    that popcorn. i’m drooling. i don’t care if it’s only 9 am.

  26. kate on July 25, 2011 at 9:10 am

that teff tortilla looks delish, that is a bummer about your house people can be so rude, at least its yours now and once you get it all cleaned up everything will be perfect!

  27. kate on July 25, 2011 at 9:19 am

Yuck to black carpet and leftover kid craziness but I’m so happy for y’all about your house! And YAY for this being your LAST move for a long time. Doesnt that sound so good??

  28. Laura @ Backstage Pass to Health & Happiness on July 25, 2011 at 9:38 am

Sorry to hear that the previous owners are so inconsiderate. Or perhaps the previous owner’s children since it seems they had their kids do the dirty work w/ the crayons and toys?
I agree with the others that you should hire a cleaning service to tackle the house first, and perhaps a painter, too. That way it’s stress-free and you can focus on moving in and shopping for another Buddha statue! 😉

  29. Kathie on July 25, 2011 at 9:47 am

We bought our first home when we were expecting Baby #1 too. We actually bought it when I was eight months preggo! We had three weeks to renovate a few things before we moved in – We did a complete reno of the bathroom (it was THAT bad), new paint in all the rooms, new front door and some of the kitchen (that we’d later do a complete reno when DD was six months old!). We moved into the house just three weeks before DD was born! It was stressful, exciting and frustrating but we thank god every day for all this family because they helped us SO MUCH during that time. It’ll all fall into place, dont you worry! :o)

  30. Kathie on July 25, 2011 at 9:48 am

Oh, did they leave the Buddha statue?!?!

    • Fitnessista on July 25, 2011 at 10:03 am

      no! :/

      • Kathie on July 25, 2011 at 10:39 am

oh man. what a bummer! after the mess they left you, that’s the least they could have done. Im so sorry! I know how much you liked it and hoped it would stay. I thought it was pretty nice also.
