Toes in the grass

It was a day full of good things.

First off, I found a new {air-conditioned!} place to take Liv during the day: the library. I had a card in Orlando since I loved to borrow books on CD for long commutes, but forgot to get one a new one in Tucson. We remedied that today! I’m really excited to take Oliv for story time, and borrow children’s books and CDs. We picked up a few great ones today, including The Lion King Broadway soundtrack- I hope she’ll be my little threatre date when she’s older.

Afterwards, we stopped outside to look at the fountain,

Fountain

and found a shady spot to put our toes in the grass (after checking for ants, of course). The look on her face when she touches or feels grass is hilarious- I love watching her discover new things.

Toes

A Mexican lunch (tamales and frijoles + a thousand chips. I keep reminding myself to drown in Mexican food for as long as I can, since we have no idea where we’ll be living next)

Molinito

a very appropriate siesta,

and a treat that will be getting its own post in the am. No words.

Ice cream 3

Since Liv is at the point where it seems like her purpose in life is to try and injure herself, I wore her in the BabyHawk while I put everything together. I don’t usually wear her at home -just for errands and shopping since it’s easy- because she’s usually exploring and crawling around, and I’m right next to her ready to catch her, but I think she liked being able to see what I was doing.

Making ice cream

(Fellow mamas: I just saw on Facebook that BabyHawk is going to be having a huge sale in the next couple of days, all posted on FB. It’s been my favorite carrier since Liv outgrew the K’tan and I’ll wear her on my back, side or front.)

It’s pouring, and I’m off to do the rainy day workout! Pretty stoked about it.

Raining

Hope you have a great night and I’ll see ya in the am with that recipe.

xoxo

These photos of Liv are so precious, and I’m sure you both will be so grateful to have this blog to remember all her little milestones. The library sounds like such a perfect way to spend the day!

OKay that chocolate ice cream looks amazing! SO thick! Really thick, creamy icecream is the best!

LOVE the bedtime ab burner! I’ve been looking for something I can do at home, at night after my 3 year old goes to bed! Thank you! 🙂

How did you take that beautiful photo of Livi’s feet with yours? I tried to do that with my nephew, and I couldn’t balance both him and the camera! That’s some mommy-talent you got there! 🙂

I hope she grows up loving theater, too! I love watching musical productions and will force my possible future children to watch them with me 😛

    Which BabyHawk do you have?
I probably won’t be able to buy too many different baby carriers, so the MeiTei seems to be the best option since it works for Newborns all the way up to 40 pounds…

    • Fitnessista on August 15, 2012 at 12:42 am

i have the mei tai and wish i would have bought it sooner- we love it

  13. Stephanie on August 15, 2012 at 1:08 am

I just got goosebumps when you said you wanted Olivia to be your theater date. My mom had the same with for me! We have tried to go to several shows a year since I was about 8 (I’m 26 now). We saw Cats and I became a theater addict! Its a beautiful thing to share. You two are going to be quite the pair 🙂 You already are! Moms make the BEST best friends.

My mom and I are theater lovers, too! Since I was little, I was always her theater date! I can’t wait to start the same tradition with my son. I love going to the library to escape the heat. I used to take my son to our library’s baby lapsit when he was younger and now we go to the toddler story time!

    Hi Gina,

Random question for you! What will you do with your house if/when you get redeployed elsewhere? Will you sell it? I know this is nosy, but it’s just something I’ve wondered what military families do!

    Thanks

Cannot wait for the recipe! Looks amazing!

I just love baby feet!! Exploring new things with your baby is so fun to watch – enjoy it.

The library was one of my favorite places to go as a child…and still is as an adult!

  19. julia on August 15, 2012 at 7:32 am

Thanks for being so open about your possible future move. Do you think that you will always be moving, even 10 years from now? You’ve got a great attitude about this all, you are adaptable and mature.

  20. Kim@hungryhealthygirl on August 15, 2012 at 8:38 am

Looking forward to that recipe! I love taking my kids to the library. They love it, it’s cheap, and I’m able to relax while they read and explore.

Hey Lady! I did your Rainy Day WO yesterday on my lunch break and it was AWESOME!!!! Thanks again!!!!

Oh, i am wondering if it is hard to place Liv in the carrier on your back (assuming you do it alone)? I have a Ergo and would love to carry Jack that way:)

Can’t wait for the ice cream recipe! I got an ice cream maker for my birthday last year but have only used it once so far. Time for a good new idea to make me pull it out again.

  23. britt on August 15, 2012 at 9:27 am

oh girl, that looks like chocolate deliciousness right there!!

babies getting more mobile is a super difficult thing because you just want to wrap them in bubble wrap and protect them from everything. i have gradually let my son explore and try to sense when he’s comfortable enough to do something on his own. he’s 23-months now and there is no way to contain him these days and i feel like he falls down or jumps off of something and hits his head once a day. it freaks me out. and he just wants to get up and do it again. he thinks he’s a monkey! oh, being a mama is tough. but i LOVE it!

  24. Melissa on August 15, 2012 at 9:46 am

If you were at the dusenberry library off of river and craycroft…which btw..is where the new Whole Foods Market is going in …there is a really cool consignment store called the “the “Green Monkey”. . I work there…it’s awesome…such cuteeeeee stuff…come in and check it out!

    Hi,

I made your awesome chicken coconut curry in the crock pot this weekend! Great recipe! Yet, I was looking for another chicken crock pot recipe you posted a while ago – chicken, black beans, cumin? It was perfect for tortillas and sandwiches, but I cannot find your post on it. Could I trouble you to post it in your food links? Thanks!

Nerd alert…library time was always one of my favorite outings! I bet you can’t wait to see what authors Miss Olivia favors as she gets older and starts checking out her own books.

  28. Lauren T on August 15, 2012 at 10:36 am

I love ab burner work outs at night! I did mine last night to Beyonce’s Countdown, End of Time, and Run the World (Girls) which are awesome “pumped up,” energizing songs!

I really like your baby hawk and I’ve seen it before, but what design do you have?? It’s really pretty!

  30. Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries on August 15, 2012 at 10:54 am

I love her cute little feet!

I feel ya on the Mexican food… I grew up in the Phoenix area where there was always quality Mexican food all over the place. I never knew anything different until I moved to Utah where there is hardly any authentic Mexican places. I miss it so much!

  31. Michelle on August 15, 2012 at 10:55 am

Is that outside the library on base? Just wondering because it looks really nice and there’s a good chance we will be moving to Tucson before the end of the year.

  32. Leslie W on August 15, 2012 at 11:00 am

Have you tried Livi (I’m resisting calling her Livvers in every reference.) in a exersaucer type thing yet? Those were my saving grace while cooking. Of course, like any baby toy, they don’t need to spend hours a day in it for their little hips, but they are awesome. As long as they can support their own trunk and feet can touch the bottom, it’s great.

And, fabulous of you to introduce her to new senses. It really is very important! People tend to keep their kids out of the grass and dirt these days and only on cold/sanitized surfaces. 😉

    Good job, momma!

Aaw I love baby marshmellow feet! Precious.

Hi there! I saw your blog name in Fitness Magazine and HAD to check it out since it was voted the best…and I agree! You have great stuff here! I love the mix of family, food, training, etc.

I too am a military wife and a personal trainer. However, I was once also in the military (got out last year after 9 years to get into personal training since it’s my passion).

Anyway, I am not a technical person in any regard and was wondering if you would mind providing any feedback on making an effective blog AND getting followers? Thanks in advance for any info you can help with!

      hey girl,
thank you so much for checking out my blog! thank you so much for you and your husband’s service to our country!
i think it’s a great idea to comment on other blogs, give it time, and put your heart and soul into it
      xoxo

One of the reasons I love reading your blog is that it makes me feel close to Tucson, where I was born! While my husband and I were away in Peace Corps my grandma actually got an e-mail address (her job made her) and we were able to start communicating that way. Every week she goes to that very library to use the internet! When we were visiting in April we went with her and I remember the fountain. Very fun to see your picture today b/c it is her library day so I can picture where she is 🙂
