Upward facing belly fulla chili

Helloooooo bloggies 😀 Happy Indian Food Wednesday! I hope some of you feel inspired to have a little Baigan Bhartha or other Indian delight for me 🙂 We’re actually having sushi Wednesday but I have a feeling there will be some Indian food in my life in the near future 😉

I’m glad yesterday is over. It was one of those days where you have it planned out hour by hour.

I made some roasted veggies to take to the gym, topped over spiralized zucchini and Goddess dressing:

lonchi

I met with a new client (Hi Lisa!) who reads the blog and she was so sweet to bring me some of my favorite Fresh Market veggie chips.

009

(The bag on the right was full, but I took it to Jeni’s yesterday and Kelly, Jeni and I snacked on them while we planned the squadron Christmas party)

After Jeni’s I went back to the gym for two more training appointments, and then came home to the pilot and a bowl of Sweet Potato Black Bean chili

spbbchili

Ahhhhmazing 😀 I have a love affair with the slow cooker. You come home, and dinner is waiting for you 😉

After stuffing my face (I had two full bowls), I got to work on finishing Jeni’s birthday cupcakes so I could take them to her casa.

Here’s a chocolate foodgasm for ya:

chocolatefrosting

Homemade chocolate buttercream frosting = quite possibly the best thing ever 😉

I frosted up those babies (and a platter of them for the pilot to take to work):

cupcakes

And took them to Jeni’s casa for her and her pilot to enjoy 😀

After that, I went up to the yoga oven (aka the guest room) which was heated to a pleasant 90* and *tried* to have a decent practice.

Didn’t work out so well :/

I was so tired, and FULL—all I wanted to do was read and go to bed. So after 20 minutes, I called it quitsies and read Zen Flesh, Zen Bones until I fell asleep.

Quite a few of you were wondering how much sleep I get each night. The answer: 8 hours. No more, no less, or I’m cranky, hungry and it’s hard for me to teach at night. It’s funny because in college, for four years of my life I got two, maybe three hours of sleep each night since I had class during the day and danced and taught at night, then had to come home and study/do homework. That was also when I drank coffee ALL DAY. I have a 16-cup coffee machine and by the end of the day, it would be empty, unless I had a test, then I would make two batches. Sick, right?? Now that I don’t drink coffee, I find that sleeping 8 hours, getting a great workout and eating well gives me all the energy I need to get through the crazy days. I usually go to bed between 11 and 11:30 and wake up between 7 and 7:30. I’m kind of interested to see what happens when we have kids though.. I’ve began to cherish my precious sleep 😀

This morning, I was hankering for some chia pudding

chchchchia

-1/4 cup chia seeds

-3/4 cup almond milk

-1 pack of Stevia

-1/2 T mesquite

Topped with a sliced bananner, cinnamon and 1 T almond butter. Ohh, and foodgasms 😉

Today is a little frantic but nothing like yesterday. And like I said, I thrive on crazy. Makes things more exciting!

The plan

-Wizzle for groceries

-Publizzle for the groceries Wizzle doesn’t have

-Picking up Jeni’s bday gifty

-1 hr elliptical sesh

-nutrition consultation

-legs workout

-training appointment

-finally (!) making the cheesecake for Friday’s dinner party

-sushi with the gang

See ya later bloggies <3

Much love,

G$

Chocolate buttercream frosting is ohhhhh so yummy. I am not a coffee drinker (just don’t like it), so I can’t imagine getting less than 8 hours of sleep! It also amazes me how my co-workers, even at the gym, continuously drink coffee all. day. long. No water. That blows my mind!

  2. jewels on November 18, 2009 at 9:33 am

How do you get that frosting to look so perfect!?

  3. Katie on November 18, 2009 at 9:51 am

I always get so stuffed on chili. That is on my list to possibly make today!

And buttercream rooocks. Your cupcakes are much prettier then mine. Mine are a little cupcake too much frosting!

I prefer 9 hours but can function on 8 it can be a pain, but I don’t do caffeine anymore. I have no idea how I used to do 2 or 3 hours at school.

  4. VeggieGirl on November 18, 2009 at 9:52 am

I’m intimidated by (and too impatient to use) my slow-cooker, haha 😉

    Enjoy your sushi night!

  5. Bec on November 18, 2009 at 9:55 am

Love the idea of sweet potato chili, it sounds and looks amazing! My yoga studio recommends that we do not eat any big meal 2-3 hours before practicing, it definitely makes for a smoother practice. Especially during an twists!

  6. Jenna on November 18, 2009 at 9:56 am

mmm those cupcakes look so professional gina 🙂

Haha it is very uncomfortable to do hot yoga while stuffed to the brim.. I always have to space out my meals before I go to Bikram or end up feeling like sweaty beached whale;) -not pleasant!

  8. Abby (Abbys Vegan Eats) on November 18, 2009 at 10:00 am

I heart my slow cooker!! I just got one with a timer. fabulous!

Fresh Market Veggie Chips = amazing!

  13. katherine on November 18, 2009 at 10:18 am

Slow cookers are the best! It’s like having a personal chef who slaves away in the kitchen all day just to serve you a piping hot dinner when you get home 😉

  14. Elise on November 18, 2009 at 10:35 am

    Hey Gina!

This has nothing to do with today’s post but I can’t figure where else to post it. A-n-y-w-h-o I am TOTALLY addicted to Kale chips but I don’t have a dehydrator. I’ve been cooking them at about 300F…is that temp ruining all the good vitamins? Thanks!

  15. Lindsay on November 18, 2009 at 10:35 am

    16 cup coffee maker?!?! That’s intense. I thought I had a bad coffee addiction….
Those are adorable cupcakes. And woah chocolate buttercream…. I want some now 🙂

  16. Abby on November 18, 2009 at 10:36 am

I LOVE that you do the wizzle and then the publizzle. I do the same. I also (obviously) add other stores to the list like WF and Native Sun (a health food store here in Jacksonville).

  17. Kristie Lynn on November 18, 2009 at 10:37 am

Oh those veggie chips!! There was a store close to my college that sold them but no place here in Madison that I have found has them 🙁 They are so delicious though – glad you got two bags, and amazed you shared 😉

  18. Sally on November 18, 2009 at 10:53 am

I’ve already got that chili simmering in the slow cooker! Can’t wait to try it tonight. While at the Blue Angels airshow this weekend I noticed they had a booth selling Navy themed VS “Pink” shirts (like PINK <3 NAVY, thank goodness they didn't go with PINK <3 Seamen, is that too dirty? sorry…) I don't know if VS makes A.F. ones or not (or if you'd even want A.F. themed attire…) but they made me think of you since you like that line so much! They were pretty cute! Have a great day!

  19. Erica on November 18, 2009 at 10:54 am

How sweet of your client to bring you those chips! Love that she read the blog. I need to start getting more sleep- I really always end up cutting it short and I know I would run 100% better with more sleepies. Enjoy your sushi Wednesday

  20. Diana (Soap & Chocolate) on November 18, 2009 at 10:59 am

It’s definitely a sushi kind of Wednesday! I’ll be doing the same this evening, though it’s more of a need-to-feed-my-face-before-an-event thing than a social meal. :-/ Watch me burn out on Japanese food before I even leave for Tokyo next week. Oops.

  21. Angharad (Eating for England) on November 18, 2009 at 11:02 am

Buttercream frosting is the most ridiculous thing on the planet. LOVE.
That sweet po-tat black bean chilli looks ballin girl!

  22. Joanna on November 18, 2009 at 11:17 am

I am in that bad habit with the coffee.. don’t sleep well, always tired. It’s good to know that it’s possible for me to recover one day!

  23. deisegirl on November 18, 2009 at 11:20 am

Mmmmm, I love my slow cooker! I first bought it with all these big plans of making roasts and stews and then having the food when I came in after a long day at work. Then I realised I’d have to do some prep work before hand and the thought of doing things like frying onions and sealing meat at 6am really did not appeal. Oh yeah, and I also realised I’m not really a big fan of roasts and stews anyway (dur!) Lately though I’ve started using it to cook dried beans and also soups/curries when I’m pottering around the house or out doing some errands. It makes the house smell lovely and I don’t have to keep checking on pots and pans which is great because my gas hob heats up really fast and the water level has to be watched constantly.

  24. Liz on November 18, 2009 at 11:32 am

Those cupcakes look so freaking good. Send me some? lol

  25. Scorpio Woman on November 18, 2009 at 11:34 am

Your chocolate buttercream look so good. 😛 I’m a coffee drinker but only 1 coffee when I eat breakfast. That’s all. At work, I drink tea and water.

I go to bed near 10:30-11 pm and wake up at 6:15 from Monday-Friday.

  26. Melissa S. on November 18, 2009 at 11:48 am

    omg that frosting…

  27. chrysta on November 18, 2009 at 11:51 am

Chili is super good! Esp. now that its getting cold! I was the same way in college..i think i must have pulled an average of 3 all nighters a week! The rest of the time only getting an average of 4 hours. I dont know how i survived that! But now I make sure to get 7-8. Its a good thing. Those cupcakes looks super fab btw..yum!!!

  28. laura dishes on November 18, 2009 at 12:03 pm

I often wonder the same thing- How did I used to sleep so much less in college than I do now? I think that once you realize how good you feel when you get the amount of sleep that you need, you don’t wanna go back! I’m the same way… I love getting 8 hours!

The chili looks awesome… I need a slow cooker, if only for that!

  29. Kris | iheartwellness.com on November 18, 2009 at 12:13 pm

    Great post Doll!

Is that buttercream frosting with butter, etc? Or did you alter it?

It looks fab whatever it is 🙂

  40. K on November 18, 2009 at 5:27 pm

How fun that you have a client who’s a blog reader! Those cupcakes look bakery quality – nicely done!! I don’t understand how people can manage to get by with little to no sleep. I need a good 8 hours or it’s a bad day in the K house!

  41. Brittany on November 18, 2009 at 5:42 pm

I have a very similar sleep sech and it works for me as well- go to bed around 11 and wake up at 7- sometimes earlier if I want to make it to the gym before work.

Every time I see your chia pudding a make a mental note to make it but always forget. I need to write it down! 🙂

  42. Lisa on November 18, 2009 at 8:19 pm

You are so welcome for the chips!! Thank you for giving me some of your awesome donut holes and cookies; I need more.

    • Fitnessista on November 18, 2009 at 9:37 pm

      yummmmm!!!! enjoy! <3

  44. Sarah Anne (Salamanderpal) on November 18, 2009 at 8:32 pm

Oh, and for the record re: Sleep –

I automatically wake up after 7. Nearly on the dot. If I get up then I’m grand. If I lay around and try and get a few more minutes – crankytown, Canada. Just sometimes, it’s way too hard to get up after only 7! Fluffy comforters are just too cuddly. 😀

  45. Naomi on November 18, 2009 at 9:19 pm

mmmm chia pudding looks and sounds amazinggg 🙂 esp with those nanner’s on top 🙂

great workout jam I am loving that right now!

I need help!! I started a new diet and taking your zumba classes and Ive been losing 2-3lbs a week. My question is how much time should I be putting in the gym so that I can lose 20-25. I want to lose the weight before this time next year. And all of my weight is in my belly and everything else is fine.

    • Fitnessista on November 20, 2009 at 10:29 am
