Viessy and Me

Hey guys! IT’S THE FREAKIN WEEKEND! Thank goodness, right?? 🙂 Anything fun planned?

Today it’s just me and Viesa.

vies

(She’s smiling so sweetly waiting for her treat.. I got the puppers some new duck and sweet potato treats. They’re obsessed)

*Random trivia: Viesa’s full name is Traviesa. It’s Spanish for “trouble-maker”. Did we curse her? Probably 😉

We’re just chillin’ right now and are going to go on a long walk this afternoon- Bella is at the groomer 🙂

I had to wake up SO early this morning to go to work. We’re running a Lifestyle Challenge at the gym and I ran today’s session. Every week, we have a “lesson” and a “challenge” for that week, promoting healthy lifestyle changes and mini-goals. The purpose of the challenge is to create healthy habits that can be part of a lifestyle, so that gym members can accomplish their fitness and weight loss goals.

I packed up an apple with mesquite and cinnamon to munch as I got everything ready for the session:

The session went really well- I think everyone is excited 🙂 We checked body fat, took weight and measurements and went over the eating plan, lesson and goal for this week. After that, Jeni and I did a bicep and tricep workout.

I was very excited to come home and dive into a bowl of superfood oat bran:

oats

-1/3 C oat bran

-1 banana

-palm full of goji berries

-1 T maca

-1/2 scoop vanilla Sun Warrior

-cacao nibs

-cinnamon

-vanilla

-almond milk

It hit the spot 😀

I have some errands to run today, training appointments and am taking a Zumba class from another gym. It’s always fun to take a class every now and again (instead of teach it), so I’m excited 😀

Have a great day!

xoxo,

Gina

what a sweet girl! yesterday was a day with me and my puppy keira…it was kinda nice to be just us girls for a while (even though the reason was she had a urinary infection!) it made me feel like a good fur-mommy to take care of her 🙂

Several times I’ve tried Sun Warrior protein powder in my morning oats and breakfast cookies but it always tastes a bit chalky to me. Does anyone else find this? I have the vanilla flavor and generally use one scoop. Does using a half scoop help cut down on the chalky texture?

    • Fitnessista on February 26, 2010 at 11:12 am

yes, half a scoop and a decent amount of milk help cut the chalky taste 🙂

      • Diana on February 26, 2010 at 12:06 pm

        Thanks! I’ll try that 🙂

I love Viesa’s full name! I don’t know if I’d be that creative if we had a doggy. It is so cute. 🙂

I have a Zumba workshop tomorrow, its a 3 hour class that teaches the moves at a slower pace so we don’t feel overwhelmed. I am excited, however I am doing it alone so its a huge bummer at the same time.
Then sunday we’re out at my parents place for my daddy’s birthday supper.

Viesa is so pretty……Funny about her name! Maybe you did curse her hee hee

  15. Lisa on February 26, 2010 at 12:49 pm

Viessy is so pretty. One of our dogs named Sassy has to live up to her name also. Come to think of it our other dog, Phantom, lives up to his too – he’s always hiding under my son’s bunkbed.

I just drove by a location that has zumba. Hope to try it out sometimes, I love workouts that are just fun and don’t seem like working out.

  22. Karyn on February 26, 2010 at 1:33 pm

i’m totally going to have to remember that traveisa means troublemaker when i’m in spanish class 🙂

  23. Jennifer on February 26, 2010 at 1:53 pm

Viesa looks like such a sweet dog, but I know how those Shiba’s can be. My brother has one and he has worked diligently with her. She is an absolute sweetheart now. My brother has a 1 year old baby/toddler and the dog love him.

  24. Mama Pea on February 26, 2010 at 2:37 pm

Traviesa? That explains SO much about my ex-boyfriend.

I love having “girl time” with my pup! We’ve had lots of it with my hubby gone lately, so I can totally relate to how you feel when your pilot’s gone! Puppies help, though. 😉

  26. Suzanne on February 26, 2010 at 3:34 pm

Yay, just when I think that us blog readers creepily know practically everything about the Fitnessista household, we learn something new! Nice. Do the pups have middle names? What’s your middle name? My adorable 94 year old Granny always says that her middle name is “go.” She’s fiesty 🙂

    • Fitnessista on February 26, 2010 at 4:41 pm

i want to hang out with your granny 🙂

  27. Suzanne on February 26, 2010 at 3:36 pm

Oh, and a question (sorry, they’re endlesss: occasionally when doing weighted core work the blood vessels in my abs will burst. It kinda freaks me out. Thoughts? Gracias.

    • Fitnessista on February 26, 2010 at 4:41 pm

i have never had that problem..or heard of it. i’ll ask ron and will get back to you 🙂

    • stacey on February 26, 2010 at 6:31 pm

Are you resting the edge weight plate on your abs and maybe it’s bruising your skin? That has happened to me and it took me a while to figure out I was “crunching” it into myself, lol

      • Suzanne on February 26, 2010 at 8:06 pm

        Hey Stacey,
Good thinkin’, but I’ll have marks in places where the plate doesn’t rest. tres bizzare! But I would be intrigued to learn more about what kinda weighted ab work you do.

  28. Paige (Running Around Normal) on February 26, 2010 at 3:44 pm

That’s such a cute and clever name for Viesa! I love it:)
I love seeing the creative ways to spice up your oats without adding any extra sugar.

  29. Julie on February 26, 2010 at 4:10 pm

Hi! I wanted to find out what model VitaMix you use. I want to buy one, but am confused as to the many models available. They are so expensive, so I want to make sure that I buy one that does what I want…juices, smoothies, make flour, etc. Any recommendations? Thanks!!!!

    • Fitnessista on February 26, 2010 at 4:40 pm

      i use the 5200…and it’s changed my life 🙂

  30. sara on February 26, 2010 at 4:56 pm

  31. Catherine on February 26, 2010 at 5:01 pm

Enjoy your girly day with Viesa 😉 Ok, now I really need to try Zumba!

  32. Julie @SavvyEats on February 26, 2010 at 5:10 pm

Haha, this made me think of one of the dogs from when we were looking at puppies to adopt last night, and one was named ‘Mischief.’ Naming a dog that just seems to be asking for it, doesn’t it? 😉

  33. ari on February 26, 2010 at 5:13 pm

i’m so sad the winter shape up is over this week 🙁 i’m going to hate not having a plan for the gym! will you be sharing the lifestyle challenge?

  34. Angie (Losing It and Loving It) on February 26, 2010 at 5:14 pm

    Viesa is such a beauty!

That superfood oat bran looks great. So many things I want to try out. As for the mesquite you use, is that just a normal spice you would get at the store?

  35. Jenny on February 26, 2010 at 6:36 pm

    Yay for the weekend!

haha fun fact about Viessa’s name…i don’t think you jinxed her 😉 I definitely love taking classes instead of teaching them sometimes, it’s so nice to just enjoy it!

I have never tried Oat Bran, I always use steel cut oats. What’s the difference as far as nutritional value? Also, will you be sharing the lifestyle challenge? I would love to read more about it!

    • Fitnessista on February 27, 2010 at 11:20 am

      hey kara,
sure, i’ll share the lifestyle challenge! this week it was to do 2 days of cardio (30 minutes) and 3 days of strength training + 15 minutes of cardio; also to drink a gallon of water every day for the week
oat bran has higher protein that regular oats and a different texture
