Voy a Pump You Up

Heyyyyy 🙂 How are you? Hope you’ve had an amazing day.

sunset

Thanks for your awesome feedback on the video… I think little Bella’s ego is bigger than before. If that was even possible 😉

bell

She was so excited you guys were complimenting her that she got sick. I’m really hoping that it’s just a fluke and that she’s just got a little stomachache instead of being *really* sick. She’s acting normal and happy, eating and drinking, so fingers crossed we wont have to make an am vet visit.

I started my morning off with a meeting and lovely BodyPump class with friends. The songs were lame as ever, but I LOVE it! Even pumped up my weights today a little 🙂

Here’s a video for those of you who’d like to see what a class looks like:

It’s in Spanish, which makes it even more fun 😉

Some of today’s eats:

larabar

Brown rice wrap with coconut milk yogurt, cumin, arugula and masala lentil dip:

wrap

dip

The dip was delicious in the wrap, but not my fave. I definitely like the TJs eggplant spread better.

Vega shake with almond milk:

shake

Glorious.

I did the work thang today, hung out with the fam, and now the roomies and I are going to take turns cuddling Bella and watch Jersey Shore. I’m scary excited, especially after watching Snooki on the Ellen show yesterday 🙂

Hope you guys have a beautiful night and I’ll see ya on [Fashion] Friday <3

xoxo

Gina

Today’s tip: While doing squats, make sure your feet are directly under your hips and focus on sitting your booty BACK instead of straight down (with shoulders down and back, chest proud, and abs contracted)—don’t let your knees go over your toes. Contract your glutes as you come up, and you’ll target them more effectively.

Snooki was CRAZY FUNNY on Ellen!! LOVED the “ball workout”

  2. Christin@purplebirdblog on January 6, 2011 at 10:20 pm

Well wishes to Bella! Gorgeous sunset and gorgeous wrap! 🙂

  3. Laury @ thefitnessdish on January 6, 2011 at 10:20 pm

OMG Totally saw Snooki on Ellen. “If your trainer says that’s an exercise your getting ripped off.” Too funny!

    Have a great night!!

I keep hearing that eggplant spread from TJ is the bomb I’ll have to try it!

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2011 at 10:23 pm

i was dying when she said “i was drunk, so if i fell, i wouldn’t get hurt”.

  4. Whitney on January 6, 2011 at 10:20 pm

I think I’m the only person in America who doesn’t watch Jersey Shore. I hope little Bella is okay! 🙂

  5. Kaley on January 6, 2011 at 10:37 pm

So I’m totally gonna learn how to say “pump you up” just so I can say that to the bf tomorrow (he’s Spanish) and make him think I’m totally crazy. (Is that weird that I like to say random Spanish things to make him think I’m nuts? Wait, don’t answer that.)

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2011 at 10:44 pm

i speak spanish and have no clue how to say it. they wouldn’t translate it literally though– i’ll have to ask my madre

  6. Misha on January 6, 2011 at 10:37 pm

Hey Gina I’m a 19yr old college student and I just recently purchased these so called Larabars haha. I’m from Canada and found them at Superstore for $7-something for 5! Are they that expensive in the states?
The main thing I noticed is that each bar is 220 calories. It seems like a lot? What’s your thoughts? Well, the peanut butter flavor is that much anyways. Which leads me to my next point- I was disappointed in the taste.

Should I give up Larabars or try another flavor and disregard the high calories?

    Thanks a bunch!!

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2011 at 10:43 pm

      hey girl,
yes they’re expensive here too- it’s because of the quality ingredients they use. what other flavors did you buy?
as a snack, they’re great, or you can do one with a large salad or soup to make it a meal

  7. Nicole @ Making Good Choices on January 6, 2011 at 10:38 pm

Thanks for posting that video, I want to take body pump but they don’t offer it anywhere near me. It looks like fun though especially with good music! I hope yours gets better!

  8. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on January 6, 2011 at 10:38 pm

The Jersey Shore is already better. I’m doomed.

  9. Ashley on January 6, 2011 at 10:42 pm

I’ve never seen the Jersey Shore. I love love love larabars, but they’re super expensive. That;s a great tip for squats I’ll have to remember it the next time I do some.

  10. Suzi on January 6, 2011 at 10:45 pm

I hope Bella’s okay! I love the “chest proud” cue, I’m going to have to steal that one!

  11. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) on January 6, 2011 at 10:54 pm

Love the glutes/squats reminder! Right before my fitness show, the very few times I worked face to face with a trainer, he told me that. To sit back. Think about sitting back, it does a booty good 🙂 And I always try to remember that when doing my squats. And to contract on the way up. It’s the little things, isn’t it 🙂

    Sorry Bella is sickie 🙁

Have fun watching the Jersey kids!

  12. Lauren @ Fun, Fit and Fabulous! on January 6, 2011 at 10:58 pm

Bella is too cute! I just want to give her a hug!

  13. Carly on January 6, 2011 at 11:02 pm

Hey! Haven’t seen or heard much of Viesa recently. Did she go live at her new home?

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2011 at 11:04 pm

no, she goes with them this weekend. i didn’t want her to get used to this new house, then go with her new family and have to re-adjust– too much adjustment in a short amount of time, especially after coming from orlando. she’s been staying at my mom’s and i see her beautiful furry face every day 🙂

  14. Gina on January 6, 2011 at 11:14 pm

I’ve always wanted to see what a body pump class was like, love the video!

I’m watching the Jersey Shore rerun right night now. This show is nuts!

  15. Allison @ Food For Healing on January 6, 2011 at 11:40 pm

    poor bella, hope shes okay!

bodypump is crazy, i’m still sore from yesterday, i swear you talked me into doing it and i was cursing myself for doing so haha. oh well, i loved it.. i know i know

  16. Runeatrepeat on January 6, 2011 at 11:47 pm

Don’t know why, but Larabars have fell off my radar lately.
Love the reminder to keep your “chest proud”, never heard it termed like that.

  17. Namaste Gurl on January 7, 2011 at 12:00 am

I’m loving your wrap idea– coconut milk yogurt as a spread? Um, I’m SOOO using your glorious idea 🙂
Question, where do you get your protein shake mixer/bottle?

    • Fitnessista on January 7, 2011 at 9:35 am

it’s from tj maxx, but i’ve seen them at homegoods too

  18. Chelsea @ Strawberry Sweat on January 7, 2011 at 12:01 am

Hope Bella feels better in the AM!

  19. Ari @ ThE DiVa DiSH on January 7, 2011 at 12:14 am

Ok so I have to admit…I may have a slight obsession to jersey shore =] hope ur puppy feels better! And isn’t Trader Joes amazing!!

  20. caronae on January 7, 2011 at 12:34 am

I have always wanted to do a body pump class, but my school gym doesn’t have any. Sad. I’ll have to look for a gym with good classes once I graduate!

  21. Courtney (greeneyedrunner) on January 7, 2011 at 12:41 am

I felt the same way about the masala spread. I might have to find a recipe that uses it as something other than a dip-I’m obsessed with their hummus and love their eggplant hummus! Well, I just love TJs!

  22. Hotchick on January 7, 2011 at 12:58 am

I’ve noticed you’ve been getting lots of comments just like you wanted! Do you ever leave comments on other blogs? I don’t think I’ve seen one…just wondering:)

    • Fitnessista on January 7, 2011 at 9:34 am

my goal was to increase readership, not just comments, even though comments are amazing and make the blog way more fun 🙂
i comment on a few blogs (when i see or read something that i have to say something about), but read them all the time. i’m a lurker 🙂

  23. kt on January 7, 2011 at 1:58 am

That sunrise (sunset?) pic was spectacular. And the green grass under Bella’s feet made this Alaskan chica a little crazy! It must be so nice to go outside in January without oodles of layers.

  24. Gill (snaxandthecity) on January 7, 2011 at 3:45 am

    Hi Gina!
Your video was great – I’d love to see more WMOW on the blog! I have a question about squats – you said we shouldn’t let knees go over toes…but what about knees coming inwards? Whenever I am squatting quite heavy, my knees always quiver inwards a little bit on the up-motion. Is that bad!?
    Thanks!

    • Fitnessista on January 7, 2011 at 9:33 am

you may be lifting too heavy. try a lighter weight and focus on keeping your knees from spiraling inwards- once you get that, add in more weight

  25. Kristen on January 7, 2011 at 3:46 am

Spanish body pump? I am living in Madrid and have yet to see such a class. I am going to be on the look out. Right now Bikram holds my sanity! Love it it Spanish 🙂 Same 26 but much cooler! 🙂

  26. Sharie on January 7, 2011 at 4:05 am

Body Pump is fantastic, I have been doing it for a few years now and it still burns every time. It’s disappointing to hear that the music and instructors can be a bit lame, I think the Body Pump class was started here in New Zealand and the workouts/music/instructors are managed and trained by the gym who started them, Les Mills. I haven’t come across a bad one yet. It’s great though cause it means the workouts change every three months (we get a launch party!) and your muscles never get used to the workout.

  27. Ashley on January 7, 2011 at 5:01 am

What do you think of the Vega supplement? I’ve seen it advertised; how does it taste?

    • Fitnessista on January 7, 2011 at 9:31 am

it tastes pretty bad but the nutrition stats are excellent. sun warrior tastes soooo much better

  28. Katie on January 7, 2011 at 6:34 am

Oh poor Bella! I hope she is ok! She is so sweet!

Body Pump is awesome, I have taken it here a couple times at the YMCA, great workout!

Hope you have a wonderful Friday Gina! : )

  29. Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind on January 7, 2011 at 6:58 am

bahaha i love this post’s title. It reminds me of that old SNL skit with those russian (?) guys…”and we are going to pump…you up.”

    Does anyone remember this?!

    • Cassie @ A Very Busy Mind on January 7, 2011 at 7:00 am

German! They were German. Hans & Franz!

    • Fitnessista on January 7, 2011 at 9:31 am

      hahaha!!!

      • LisaG on January 7, 2011 at 12:06 pm

I remember them; they were hilarious.

  30. Tina on January 7, 2011 at 7:53 am

Thanks for posting this video, I was curious what Body Pump was like, its very similar to a class I go to at my gym called “Hard Core Total Body” Except the music is awesome and its miliatary-style so the teacher yells at you. Which I like cause it keeps me on my toes! Happy Friday! 🙂

  31. mags on January 7, 2011 at 7:55 am

Actually Gina, it’s impossible to do a proper squat without your knee going over the toes and if one’s back is strong and flexible enough the butt should be almost to the floor ie. thigs past parallel. Have a look at any power lifter or check out the crossfit.com site for form. Awesome blog by the way.

    • Fitnessista on January 7, 2011 at 9:30 am

      thanks girl!
i’m just giving general guidelines for the average jane, crossfitters are a little different. crossfit uses improper form for quite a few workout moves (like the pull-ups)

  32. Kara on January 7, 2011 at 8:13 am

I’m super stoked to watch Jersey Shore today (I DVRed it!) It’s Teeee Shiiiiirt Tiiiime!

Really, I do hope she feels better soon. 🙂

  37. jenna on January 7, 2011 at 9:54 am

I hope bella is feeling better! it stinks that marsala lentil dip wasn’t that great. it sounds wonderful. I wish I had a TJ’s near by! everyone always gets such fun products from there.

  38. Heather (Heather's Dish) on January 7, 2011 at 10:17 am

i’m pretty convinced that anything in spanish is better…anything!

  39. Teri [a foodie stays fit] on January 7, 2011 at 10:26 am

dude, what release are they using for that Body Pump? that music is terrible! newer ones are SO much better!

  40. chandra on January 7, 2011 at 10:47 am

Do you by chance know what release(s) they are teaching at your gym for BP? I started teaching about a year ago and for the most part, the music on them has been fun! Well, fun if you like pop and rock music with a little “beat” added in. 🙂 The latest release (76) is getting launched here next week and has a ton of fun/popular songs from 2009!

  41. Katie on January 7, 2011 at 10:48 am

Bella is super cute and sassy!!!

  42. Nicole on January 7, 2011 at 12:00 pm

    Hey Gina!
I take a class exactly like Body Pump but its called Iron Reps instead! Love it and I agree it totally gives you a better workout with weights then you would push yourself for 🙂

also I herd from a natural path that smoothies should only be eaten if you dont have much time, she said our body is meant to chew food? what are your thoughts?!

  43. AJ on January 7, 2011 at 12:28 pm

I’ve got to try that TJ’s eggplant spread! I’ve heard nothing but good things and I keep forgetting everytime I’m in there.

  44. Joanna@ Drizzle of Sunshine on January 7, 2011 at 12:39 pm

Poor Bella! I hope she is 100% better.
I saw Snookie too! She’s a crazy girl! Happy Friday Gina!

  45. Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat on January 7, 2011 at 12:43 pm

  46. Ruthie on January 7, 2011 at 1:00 pm

Thanks for posting a video on BodyPump! I have heard about it all over the blog world but we don’t have it where I live so I’ve never been able to check it out.

Btw I’ve never commented on your blog before but I’ve been reading it for a while now… it’s awesome! 🙂

  47. PB&Jenny on January 7, 2011 at 1:29 pm

please tell me you noticed that guy mooning the camera in the background. I died! Body pump looks SERIOUS! I’d love to try sometime.

  48. Hillary [Nutrition Nut on the Run] on January 7, 2011 at 3:47 pm

I miss BodyPump! I hope my gym decides to have the class again.

  49. Alycia [Fit n Fresh] on January 7, 2011 at 4:01 pm

Loved the tip at the bottom today! By the way – totally snagging one of those bottles at the Maxx 😉

Have fun with the jersey shore!

  50. Emma on January 7, 2011 at 4:01 pm

Hey! Happy new year sweetie! I hope Bella gets well soon. Thanks for posting a body pump vid – I’ve never been to a class before. I think I’ll have to look out for a class in my area. I’m so lame at doing weights by myself in the gym! I need my butt kickng in the weights department. Loving your blog! x x
