We meet again

Oh hey, weekend.

flowers5

(I’m not sure what kind of flowers those are.. or how long it will be before they’re brown and crispy)

So nice to see you again!

Since I’m not back at work yet, the weekend is similar to the rest of the week, but way better with the Pilot home. We have a couple of fun things going on (not quite the same shenanigans as last weekend), the chance to work on new workouts and recipes for you guys, and plans to be lazy bums. I’m stoked.

Some eats:

toast

Toast with almond butter and jelly

Shrimp Caesar salad

caesar2

with black bean soup

After almost 6 weeks of very little sleep, we slept last night! 4 hours, awake for an hour, then back to sleep for 3 more. It’s amazing how your body can adapt to little or no sleep –it’s pretty much how I lived through college, with copious amounts of caffeine- but what a difference it makes to actually get the sleep you need. Lots of mental and physical benefits, plus the added bonus of not feeling like a zombie 😉

Off to an appointment and then… ?

Have a great Friday!

xoxo

Gina

Just for fun:

In the news: My nana came over for a little while yesterday afternoon, and while we were watching the news, this story came up High levels of arsenic have been found in foods containing organic brown rice syrup, which is in quite a few of the cereals, energy bars and gels that we purchase. It just goes to show that even healthier options of favorite foods can contain potentially toxic ingredients.

Have a great weekend! That’s scary news about the brown rice syrup in foods. I’m always snacking on protein bars when I travel.

I have a break in school next week (high school junior). So I am so happy for the weekend because that means a week of sleepovers and sleeping in. Hope your weekend is good. I can’t wait for next week because zumba at my gym starts twice a week (Tuesday and Friday). Yay!!

Pretty flowers! I can’t wait to see things start blooming for spring, so excited! Glad you were able to finally get some rest, getting enough sleep makes all the difference in the world. Hope you guys enjoy your lazy weekend! 🙂

Love that fitness instructor graphic! I work in PR and there was one circulating for PR people – it’s crazy how funny/real those are! Have a nice weekend, lady.

I heard about the arsenic story this morning too and I have to say, I was shocked. It’s certainly surprising to learn something that something in its natural form that should be healthy for you can actually be quite dangerous. I guess I should go check some of the things I have in the kitchen to make sure it’s not in there!

I think that flowering plant is some kind of azalea . . . very pretty, as I watch some light snow falling outside my window! Take care and enjoy your weekend.

Love the instructor thing! So so true! The ‘what society thinks’ is especially true for me since I teach Jazzercise…just the word ‘jazzercise’ screams big hair, leotards and leg warmers!!!

Until one has a baby, you have no idea what you can manage to survive on for sleep, or lack thereof! Not advisable but sometimes you just have to make due. Glad you’re hanging in there and honestly, as a mom, 4 hours in one stretch is pretty stellar 🙂 It takes one mom to another to realize that’s a big accomplishment with a newborn!

  15. Laury on February 17, 2012 at 2:52 pm

I saw the arsenic thing yesterday mOrning and it really freaked me out! My nephew eats tons of Z bars and my sister in law was stressing! So scary!!!

Now that I don’t work as much I feel the same about weekends. Nice to have Mike around and be lazy! Happy Friday! And yey for more sleep! It will slowly get better then she will get teeth. Not as bad ad the newborn phase though IMO. But Ella’s starting to hate sleep again, or just going to bed at a reasonable time! Menace.

I am glad you got some sleep. When I don’t get enough I literally feel like my head vibrates. No bueno.

everything has been fuzzy for at least 3 weeks 😉

My mom showed me that article about the brown rice syrup! Weird, right?
Hope you have a great weekend!

  18. Magen on February 17, 2012 at 3:43 pm

Those pretty flowers are azaleas, they only bloom once a year and only for a few weeks (unless they are encore azaleas and you get two bloom cycles) No matter what you do, they will turn crisy, brown and fall off after they have done their pretty thing. They are lovely little green plants in the meantime though 🙂 They like filtered sunlight too!

    • Fitnessista on February 17, 2012 at 4:05 pm

oh, good to know! thanks 🙂

  19. Cate on February 17, 2012 at 3:45 pm

The flowers are azaleas. They’re in the rhodedendren family… I think my mom keeps hers in the shade and puts used coffee grounds on the soil to help them grow better.

    Happy sleeping 🙂

    • Fitnessista on February 17, 2012 at 4:05 pm

      amazing- thank you!

  20. Joss on February 17, 2012 at 5:05 pm

i heard about the story too! Just because it is labeled as healthy or organic…doesn’t mean it’s always the best option! Those are beautiful flowers, enjoy the weekend 🙂

  21. Life's a Bowl on February 17, 2012 at 6:16 pm

TGIF 😀 All of your eats look tasty and creamy!

P.S. I saw that little bit about the brown rice syrup last night on the news- it seems no matter how “healthy” or organic something can be, there’s always the potential for problems…

  22. Talia @ Bite Size Wellness on February 17, 2012 at 6:17 pm

Thanks for the Friday comic! I needed a nice laugh to start the weekend off right 🙂

  23. Michelle (Better with Berries) on February 17, 2012 at 7:04 pm

I love that “group fitness instructors” picture. Very funny 🙂 I saw one for a teacher (which I am) today and some of them were very true!

  24. Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin on February 17, 2012 at 7:38 pm

My parents just told me about the news about brown rice syrup! Yikes, I’m going to have to check all my food labels now!

  25. Sara on February 17, 2012 at 8:13 pm

It’s pretty astounding that the FDA has not previously set a standard ‘across the board’ regulatory limit for arsenic, or just for heavy metals in general. I think most organic manufacturers would do some form of random testing as part of their certification, so it should be NBD to give them an email and ask about that and what their criteria is. Also, from what I’ve seen the amounts detected are only harmful to babies because of their smaller size.

  26. Chelsa on February 18, 2012 at 8:28 am

I have to try to Caesar recipe one of these days. It looks so good and my fiance is obsessed with Caesar dressing!

  27. Cara Craves... on February 18, 2012 at 8:47 am

    Happy weekend!
Good luck with your recipe and workout planning!

  28. Lismarie on February 18, 2012 at 10:45 am

Hang in there, my girlfriend has a 6 month old and she said things got a LOT better in terms of sleeping/schedule after the 6 week mark. 🙂

  29. Valerie @ FreshMutz on February 18, 2012 at 3:58 pm

i prefer to buy frozen shrimp as opposed to fresh. It’s often frozen right after being caught, and the “fresh” stuff at the supermarket was likely frozen at some point in time.

  30. Nicola NZ on February 19, 2012 at 2:58 pm

I cant be certain but that flower looks like a rhododendron. We have heaps of different species here in NZ and they have beautiful flowers on them and so many pretty colours!
