weekly fitness must-have: lululemon thong

Yep, we’re talking about underwear today. (It wouldn’t be the first time.)

Anyone else out there really weird/particular about their fitness undergarments? Like if I can’t find my favorite sports bra or running underwear the night before a race, I start to mildly panic. The “wrong” sports bra can be a deal breaker. Also, once I forgot a sports bra and spent an entire cardio session loathing the existence of underwire.

I need light, stretchy, and STAYS PUT. Basically, I don’t want to think about it while I’m teaching or working out. Also not a fan of VPL (visible panty lines).

The answer: thong-tha-tha-tha-thongs.

Lululemon thong

The best one I’ve found are from lululemon. I like the clothes at Lorna Jane (<— I went to make that link and just saw they’re having a huge warehouse sale… gahhhh) more right now, but have yet to try their underwear line.

Lululemon thong 3

(The black one is the namastay put and the pink one is the mula bandhawear. )

I’ve tested out a few different brands over the years. I love the lightweight wicking fabric, and the fact these ones feature a structured design (instead of the super delicate lace that’s pretty for every day but a nightmare for workouts). Out of the two above, I prefer the fabric of the mula bandhawear. It feels softer and has more stretch. I’ve also found that it’s more true to size. Per usual lulu sizes, be sure to size UP about two sizes.

These can be found for about $16. They wash well (just lay flat to dry) and last. I have had one lululemon pair for.. um.. 4 years. Maybe it’s time to say goodbye haha.

Anyone else strangely particular about fitness undergarments? Where did you get your favorites?

xoxo

Gina

Honestly? I go commando in my yoga pants and my shorts have built in underwear. I honestly thought all women didn’t wear underwear. Well except a few at the gym who have the horrible panty lines. Hence the reason why I just don’t bother!

yeah it definitely depends on the bottoms. for yoga i’ll usually go commando too because another layer when you’re drenched in sweat is no fun

Same here. I can’t imagine yet another piece of material crawling up my ass while working out! Plus, it’s not like I’m going to wear them again before washing anyway.

Super tmi/gross confession: I choose commando most of the time for strength/circuit workouts. (Always in leggings or spandex shorts, so no risk of the goodies saying peekaboo! hahaha) For cardio, I learned the hard way that underwear can be helpful to avoid chafing on long runs.

And now that I’ve talked about chafed up ladybits, I’m going to exit gracefully stage left…

LOL you are so right on sister. I go commando because it is just more comfortable. I always wondered if I was the only one in the gym. Its nice to know I am semi-normal. Gina always comes up with the best topics. I still might buy one thong to try it out though!

Oh great, another thing I will have to add to my collection from Lulu. Haha! I normally just wear regular VS thongs when I work out to avoid the dreaded panty line. Also, “Thong Song” came on to some random Spotify playlist while I was getting ready last week, so I am happy that this is the second time it has come up in 7 days, which is probably the most I’ve thought about it since I was a freshman in high school. Amazing!

I love Lululemon and these are no exception!

Do they have similar panties that aren’t thongs? I’m just not a fan of that style.

I just bought fabletics no-show briefs and they are insanely comfortable!

Under Armour are my absolute favorite, very identical to lululemons and less expensive!

Anyone have any nursing sports bras they love?

Hi Gina! Can you please start posting your grocery lists and meal plans for the week again? That used to be my favorite post and what made me love your blog so much! I really miss it and could use some meal inspiration for my family. Thank you!!

i can definitely do that! i felt like when i did it there were crickets haha, but now that i stopped, more people are asking for it again 🙂

Oooh, good to know! I have always wanted to try lulu’s undies but haven’t yet. I actually just got a job there, so I will have to pick some up next time I go in 🙂 Also, love the thong song refrence. Now it’s stuck in my head!

I’ll have to try them. I have gym equipment at home so usually I’m all about comfy granny panties. But my workout clothes often are my mom gear so good undies is a must then and no VPL:)

yes to lululemon thongs and bikinis for running! I even wear them during the daytime too in the summer for the sweat wicking features lol.

My favorite sports bras now are Zensah. Fun colors. I’ve been wearing them for about a year and love them. They come up a little higher in the chest than others. And it’s still racer back which is a must for me. And Zensah, duh for compression!

  13. Sarah N on June 21, 2016 at 6:58 am

I swear by Victoria Secret seamless thongs for workouts and running.

  14. Genna on June 21, 2016 at 9:41 am

Just recently I have started wearing leggings, compression capris to lift in. Previously I was shorts only girl. And I was wondering whether to wear undies or not. I haven’t gone commando yet, but wasn’t sure what the proper etiquette, recommended way to go was! 😉

  15. Kelly on June 21, 2016 at 10:26 am

I typically don’t wear underwear when I’m working out. If the shorts I’m wearing don’t have the built in ones, I just wear normal undies. Thongs annoy me to no end. I never find them comfy at all especially when working out. Maybe I just haven’t found the right kind or something. Definitely feel very particular about my sports bras though!

  16. queenoffitness on June 21, 2016 at 12:31 pm

For those ladies who go commando…I salute you! I just can’t do it. I wear my seamless cotton hipsters or other seamless undies under my pants. Something about underwear coverage just makes me feel better.

    • Lisa on June 21, 2016 at 2:43 pm

Me too! Like what if your leggings or capris ripped at the seam? I know that’s not likely to happen, but at least your bits are covered if it does…

      • Fitnessista on June 21, 2016 at 3:06 pm

i have a pair of pants with a small hole in the seam, and i’m so glad i wasn’t commando when i discovered it haha

I am a bigger girl (in the chest region) so if I leave the house wearing a cummy sports bra during a run, there have been days where I’ve turned around, walked home, and changed into a nicer bra. I really love Moving Comfort, they keep everything in place and doesn’t feel like everything is being squished. I totally recommend it for anyone that is C cup or larger.

    • Fitnessista on June 23, 2016 at 10:37 am

      moving comfort makes AMAZING bras.
