Weeks 29-31

and feeling like I’m ready?! (Or at least as ready as I’ll ever be.)

31 weeks 1 of 1 2

It’s weird because as much as I love being pregnant- even with the second pregnancy, which for me has hit faster and made me slower- every time I feel her kick, I just think “I want you to be here already.” Waiting is hard! I’m just so excited for Liv to meet her and spend time as a family. At the same time, there is still a TON to do before she makes her arrival -the nursery currently looks like an episode of Hoarders– and of course, I want her to be fully cooked before she makes her debut. 😉

Some of the things I’ve noticed from the past couple of weeks:

Remember when I said that no one has offended me so far? Well I was putting it out there to the universe, because I was bombarded last week with weird/rude comments. These included comments from people at the gym (you’re huge! are there twins in there? i’m going to put a mat under you in case your water breaks) and comments from EVERYONE we encountered on our road trip to Tucson. We always take Liv to Chuck E Cheese on the way (bribery to be patient in the car at its best haha), and the girl at the counter was like, ‘Wow, you’re going to have that baby at any second, huh?” and then at the gas station, the guy working was like, “You’re ready to have that baby!” Are you my doctor, sir? I also happened to be wearing a snug grey t-shirt dress, which I decided to immediately burn. You’re dead to me, dress.

At the same time, I’ve also gotten some really kind and lovely comments, which I choose to focus on. Most of them have to do with taking classes and sticking with my routine while pregnant, and it’s always appreciated and makes my heart so warm. I remember when I was in college, there was a VERY pregnant woman in my favorite spin class each week. She killed it, and I thought to myself, “I hope I can do that one day.” I told her she inspired me for the future. 🙂

I’ve had some crazyass dreams, as in even more bizarre than usual. Last week, I had a dream that my water broke and I was only 30 weeks. Tom was out of town for work, and I had to drop Liv off at a friend’s and drive myself to the hospital. My doula went to the hospital, but couldn’t find me. Also, random family members were there but they all had dinner plans so they couldn’t help me? Labor and delivery was closed, so they took me to the normal Emergency Room, where a nurse told me to wait on a table.. like a regular table that had bags of chips underneath it. I wasn’t having any contractions, and was so worried because my water had already been broken for hours and no doctors or anyone was to be seen. It was one of those dreams that made me feel so uneasy and anxious when I woke up. When I opened my eyes, Liv was curled up next to me and I could feel the baby kicking in my belly. I instantly felt better. I think I’m just having anxiety that I’ll go into labor while Tom’s not here. I have a lot of friends who have had babies on their own -or their husbands made it back juuuust in time- and they were all totally fine, so it gives me hope.

I’ve once again become obsessed with reading birth stories. I love all of the ones in Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth and re-reading my blog friends’ birth stories. I had to take a break during Julie’s to avoid the dinosaur sob.

31 weeks 1 of 1

Gamble of the day: whether my wedding ring is going to fit. If I’ve had a lot of sodium or it’s been particularly warm, all bets are off. I remember my rings becoming too snug way earlier last pregnancy, so I’m happy I’ve been able to wear them this long.

Belly button status: outie and proud-y. It’s poking out a little bit.

Cravings:

SOFT PRETZELS. Thank you to those of you who told me they have some gluten-free soft pretzels in the freezer section at Whole Foods. You know where Liv and I are heading later today.

Pizza. All day, every day.

Chocolate coconut water.

Aversions:

Making dinner. I’ve made 2 real dinners this week and am already calling it a win.

Bell peppers. I can eat them, but I’m not loving them right now.

Fitness:

Is still going well for now, and it feels SO good to move. I’m doing PiYo with a group of girls on Facebook -hit me up if you want to join our next challenge!- and having a blast with something new, along with some easy modifications. I’m only teaching barre right now -I miss spin and BODYPUMP but it’s too hot and they were getting uncomfortable to teach- and it still feels great. It’s funny because last pregnancy I was a cardio queen because strength training didn’t feel quite right; this time I’m all about strength. I’ve been using the TRX, dumbbells and the kettlebell, in addition to taking BODYPUMP and barre classes. Cardio-wise, my hip flexor and round ligament pain has been better (thank you to my awesome chiropractor and maternity support belt), so I’ve been able to walk on the treadmill and take the pups for daily walks around the neighborhood. I also like to do modified Insanity or Turbofire workouts when I want a little cardio.

Looking forward to:

-Having our doula come over for our pre-labor visit. She is so warm and wonderful, and I’m excited for Tom to meet her. Even though I have no clue how labor will go, I feel more comfortable venturing into it with them by my side.

Our echocardiogram. I said this last time, but it’s something that’s on my mind through out the day and I really want to learn more about our situation and the steps from here.

-Finishing up the nursery. I had been planning and figuring out everything, and finally ordered all of the goods night last. I’m doing one small DIY and will definitely post a pic when it’s finished.

Keep growing, little lady! We can’t wait to meet you.

My worst fear was having our baby without my husband. He is in the military so it was possible! He left for a one week patrol when I was 37 weeks with my first … The day after he left I went into labor! They tried getting a helicopter to get him off the boat, but I got to the hospital and was 7 cm already!! Thankfully a friend got me there in time. My husband showed up the next day and all was great 🙂

just reading this made my heart rate skyrocket haha. i’ve heard so many similar stories! one of my friends had her baby, in the shower, while her husband was deployed

      • Heather on August 13, 2015 at 3:23 pm

Shower?! Yikes! I *almost* went to Whole Foods because I thought I was just having Braxton hicks and was feeling lazy since I was just laying around all day… Then a contraction came and I changed my mind . I would have made quite the sight in Whole Foods! Hah!

ahh i can’t believe those comments from strangers. for what it’s worth, i think you look great rocking that bump! i’ve never been pregnant, but i hope i’ll still be exercising and staying active like you when my time comes. 🙂

Oh my gosh, a good soft pretzel has been my craving the past few days! I am also with you on the waiting game. It’s so hard and I just can’t wait to meet my little one!

  4. Jill @ Champagne for Everyday on August 13, 2015 at 3:32 pm

I think you look super beautiful, especially in that pink top! Your belly is so perky! Don’t listen to those other comments. Also – I am not even pregnant and ALWAYS crave those pretzels. If you put butter inside them, they taste just like the butter pretzels from Germany! Hellooo delish calories!!

I literally laughed out loud when I read about your dream. I’m sorry, but it was just too hysterical not to! All will be fine I’m sure. I can’t wait to see little miss!

You look fantastic! Don’t burn the dress!

Well, I think you look great, and NOT about to pop! I HATED those types of comments too. They were so overwhelming that I was convinced people WANTED me to have my baby early! Ugh.

  8. Brittany o on August 13, 2015 at 5:18 pm

You look amazing! I had one of those comments at the gym yesterday. I’m 25 weeks and was taking bodypump. The teacher said “I was worried you’d go into labor during those squats”! She did commend me after the comment for being there.

  9. Jamie on August 13, 2015 at 6:31 pm

Mama you are just gorgeous! You’re my inspiration for when i get pregnant…I hope that when I get pregnant I can be half as active as you are! Keep it up!

  10. Leah on August 13, 2015 at 8:34 pm

You look so beautiful! Seeing a cute bump *almost* makes me want to have another!

    You are so adorable!

I’m loving your bump!! So excited for your little girl to come into the world!!

  13. Katie @ Live Half Full on August 13, 2015 at 8:38 pm

Thank goodness I’m not the only one with an aversion to making dinner! I made dinner twice this week too and prepped for Friday night pasta, so I’m calling that a win too!

  14. Madeline @ Whitewall Collective on August 13, 2015 at 9:43 pm

Absolutely adorable, and that perfect pregnancy hair too! Lucky to be you!

  15. Ali on August 13, 2015 at 9:53 pm

Im sending you all my good voodoo for daddy to be there! <3

  16. Tabatha on August 14, 2015 at 5:19 am

I always thought the “about to pop” comments were the worst! You and the little lady look gorgeous!!

  17. Gina on August 14, 2015 at 7:07 am

Hey! You look beautiful and strong!!! Totally LOL’d at your crazy dreams. My favorite Spin instructor is pregnant and due around the same time as you are. I am in awe of both of you – you are both fantastic role models for the rest of us. OXOX – Gina (from Mass).

  18. Allison on August 14, 2015 at 7:14 am

As obnoxious as I’m sure those comments are, I must admit I’m a bit jealous! I’m 29 weeks and keep getting the “When are you due again? You’re SO small” comments. My favorite so far has been, “You’re due in October? THIS October?” C’mon really…? Anyway, I think you look great! Good luck with your last trimester!

  19. Liz on August 14, 2015 at 11:19 am

I feel like this pregnancy has flown by compared to last time! I can’t wait to see what you name Livi’s sister!

  20. Tracy on August 14, 2015 at 11:41 am

You look beautiful!! And your hair is out of this world! Gorgeous!

Best of luck with your echocardiogram. I’m sure it will set your mind at ease to get some questions answered. Continued prayers and blessings!

  21. Cassie on August 14, 2015 at 2:35 pm

I had dreams this week where I thought I was having contractions, woke up, and had to convince myself I was NOT having contractions. It was just a dream. And I had some person say to me today, “You’re ready to pop.” I just laughed and said we still have a few more weeks (5). I think people just don’t know what to say, but I wish they’d close their trap if they’re unsure.

    • Fitnessista on August 14, 2015 at 3:17 pm

right? it’s like you could talk to me about normal non-pregnant things, especially if all you can say is that i’m huge haha

  22. Elizabeth on August 15, 2015 at 10:10 am

I love reading your updates! I’ve been thinking about buying Piyo for a while, I’d love to hear more about the challenge!!

  23. Kattrina on August 15, 2015 at 4:59 pm

I am pregnant with my second and due right about the same time as you (Oct. 15th) and people have started saying the same things to me. I work at the VA hospital and all these men come into the clinic and ask if I am having twins, if I am due tomorrow, etc. I just say, “This is nothing pal, come back in two months and I’ll be twice as large!” It does make me self conscious though, and my scrubs can’t help the situations. Ugg. You look amazing though!!

  24. Whitney @ To Live & Diet in L.A. on August 16, 2015 at 9:01 am

Do NOT let those comments get to you. You look incredible!!! I am SO impressed by your enthusiasm, energy, and dedication to exercise throughout your pregnancy. I am much less motivated and I have absolutely no excuse 🙂

Btw, I’d love to join your PiYo group! Let me know the deets! xo

    • Fitnessista on August 16, 2015 at 9:34 pm

i will email you, friend! xo

  25. Erin Motz on August 16, 2015 at 5:54 pm

people are so weird/rude!! you look fantastic! what every woman hopes to look like pregnant, haha. everything looks the same and then you have a little basketball under there 😉

  26. Julie on August 17, 2015 at 9:03 am

It must just be me, but when I was pregnant, those comments just didn’t bother me in the least. On the contrary, I loved when people wanted to acknowledge my pregnancy & share in my excitement. You need to look at their intent – I think 99% of people see the joy & beauty in a pregnant woman & just want to share in that. Obviously when they’re calling you “huge”, they’re just referring to your stomach, which has a baby in it… it’s not like you just ate a whole pizza or something. You have no control over the size of your baby belly… what’s to be offended about?

    • Fitnessista on August 17, 2015 at 8:43 pm

i wasn’t seriously offended- like it didn’t ruin my day or anything haha. i just think there are so many tactful and kind ways to share in someone’s excitement without making them feel huge. way before my pregger days, i would usually say something like, “you look great! i’m so excited for you!” and ask about their due date, etc. i just think it’s weird the pregnancy is the only “ok” time to make comments about someone else’s size

      • Julie on August 18, 2015 at 6:09 am

Yes, when I see pregnant women I definitely do try to compliment them in a way that doesn’t address the size of their belly… “You look beautiful!” Just b/c I wasn’t easily offended doesn’t mean others aren’t, & I certainly wouldn’t want to make someone feel bad when I’m trying to show my happiness for them. (Actually I don’t comment very often for fear of making a mistake if they’re not pregnant! That happened to me once, & it was the worst!)

    • cristal on August 21, 2015 at 3:33 am

I agree with that comment ^^^ read it after I wrote mine

  27. cristal on August 21, 2015 at 3:31 am

You look good in wouldn’t spend too much time being upset about other people’s comments on your size. Can I also throw out there that sometimes people comments are not suppose to be taken offensively. People sometimes comment on size because they want to say something about your pregnancy but don’t know how to approach it so that is their award way. I have learned to not put intent on what people say. Labelling people with an intention is no good and it’s not always accurate. Some people I know in pregnancy are small and say they wish they had a bigger prego belly. And some people don’t care at all when people comment on their belly bc it’s not permanent and they are pregnant they are suppose to be big. Regardless you are beautiful so don’t let the comments bother you. Not everyone commenting meant to bother you or maybe doesn’t even realize it even did
