What the Doc Ordered

Hey guys Smile How are you? Hope you’re having a happy Monday.

Thank you so much for all of your good vibes and support. Your tweets, texts, emails, phone calls, virtual and real hugs mean more to me than you know. You can’t have good without the bad, and I feel like the next chapter of my life is going to be *really good*.

The past 24 hours have been crazy, but with everything going on, I still had an amazing night out with friends.

friends

(with Ashley and Jenny)

It was our unofficial lulu holiday party, so we went out to Opa, which is one of my Orlando favorites.

Dancing on the tables isn’t just allowed

It’s encouraged Smile

We danced our little hearts out, then ended up at Howl at the Moon– a dueling piano bar.

I didn’t take any pictures, but you can use your imagination Winking smile I enjoyed an extra dirty martini, and said my last “see ya laters” to all of my lulu friends. The good news is that I didn’t have any tears left after yesterday afternoon, so I didn’t make a blubbery fool out of myself. I’ll miss them like crazy <3

Jenny came back to the hotel and stayed with me and the puppies, then this morning, I met Erin for an Ashtanga class at Full Circle.

A thousand chatarungas, deep stretches and an uncomfortably long savasana? Just what the doctor ordered Open-mouthed smile

On the way back to the hotel, I stopped and grabbed a good grains bagel with egg whites, lox and capers:

Thank you, Einstein’s for being so generous with your salmon Smile

There’s a lot to do today!

-laundry (at the hotel)

-Pick up road trip snacks (Larabars, hummus, veg, trail mix, almond butter, individual almond milks, water, dog treats)

-Take library book back

-Film 5-minute hotel workout Smile

-Last Dance Trance class here!

I’m off! See ya tonight.

xoxo,

Gina

If you were driving across the country, which snacks and entertainment would you pack? The above snacks are for sure and I’m also going to get a couple of books on CD from Cracker Barrel and trashy celeb gossip magazines.

PS. Want some macaroons?? You can bid on some for an excellent cause *here*. I always throw extra goodies in the charity macaroon packages, too Smile

Gina – sending more of those positive vibes your way. So sorry for your strife in Orlando, I hope that you have a great and memorable road trip with your Madre.

This will sound kind of corny, but get some old music that your mom will know and you and put the music on LOUD and sing and sing and laugh and laugh some more. I think it would be so much fun to just act silly. Who knows, the dogs might even give a howl or two. Have fun on your trip. 28 hours with the mom. Time to have mom talk about her childhood memories. So much fun. I love hearing stories from my elders.

I have a quick and funny story for you. When my husband was a teenager, he and his mom went on a little trip together. A song by the Doobie Brothers came on the radio and after a few moments she exclaimed, “Crap (no, she didn’t say crap but something worse), one of her students had written a poem and stolen the lyrics from the song – and since she had never heard of it before, she thought it was quite good – gave him an A”. His mom isn’t with us anymore, and I miss her terribly – but that story always makes me laugh. You never know what memories will come out of a road trip together!

      that’s hilarious!

I just drove cross country in July and enjoyed some not so healthy indulgences on my way (white cheddar cheez-its!) 🙂 I think road trips are the right time to indulge for some reason.

I pack clementines too, and they were a perfect snack since I could peel them very easily and they don’t make much of a mess. Mini packs of baby carrots with a jar of almond buttah would be awesome! They even have small packs of various vegetable sticks these days, which I would normally avoid because it seems overpriced and wasteful, but they are perfect for roadtrips.

I also had several PBJ’s that were lifesavers when I couldn’t find a decent place to stop for a meal (beware the midwest!) PBJ’s are good because it’s ok if they aren’t refrigerated.

Do you have satellite radio? Aside from the plethora of commercial-free music channels, you can ALWAYS find an interesting, entertaining, and often highly thought provoking program to listen to by just randomly scanning through the channels. If you don’t have a subscription but your car is wired for satellite radio, you can call XM and try to get set up with a free trial period to enjoy during your road trip. They do it right away over the phone and your radio service starts instantly.

wow good to know! the pilot has xm, but i’ll have to see if my car is wired for it

Good luck with everything! I admire your strength. I’ve never driven cross country but I think I would bring tons of cds/music/books on tape, snacks and a camera of course!

You are a classy lady! Love your blog and love the way you handled the bad family situation! When given lemons make margaritas! Enjoy your road trip – books on tape make the time fly by! Be safe!

road trip yay! as my friend from Chicago says whenever something crazy/bad/silly/weird/… happens “oh there’s a sitcom somewhere in there, i just know it” 🙂

Ugh – by now I’m practically a champ at the cross-country drives! I always pack a cooler with bottled water, refrigerated type snacks (fruit – like grapes or strawberries, veg – like carrot sticks, celery & Almond Butter for dipping, etc.) I always grab a thing of Beef Jerky (obviously that wouldn’t hit your hot spot though). Have you ever heard of This American Life? It’s a radio podcast that tells super interesting American stories & I download a bunch of those for the drive. Books on tape are always good, etc. Sounds like you’re all set! Have a safe trip!

I’m so glad you’re managing to make the best out of a crappy situation. Last night looks like it was a blast! 🙂

Good sing-a-long songs are key for road trips. I love blasting songs like Disney music, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Spice Girls!

Hang in there Gina-things will get better soon!

I’m a bad commenter but an avid reader – it feels really odd to know about someone’s daily life yet not know them. I didn’t comment on your moving post, but i want to say here, i’m very sorry to hear about the recent stress. It must be really hard on you – and even harder with the Pilot away. Which makes me glad to read posts that you’re spending time with good friends. I really hope your friends are helping, and i’m also double glad you have your fur babies. I treat mine like children almost at times, and i always feel better when they’re around. Take care.

I am from Philly and my boyfriend is from Tampa. He went to school in Philly and met me and all his friends, so he moved up here after graduation. His dad has had a problem with it since I can remember and now resents me for it. Says horrible things about ne and kicked steve out in the first place, then he uses it against us. I will never understand it. Family can be RUTHLESS. it’s sad, and I get upset when his dad says things about me, but what can you do? Deep breath and move on 🙂 xo
